@beartown I won’t dispute overmuch with your gustibus but have you at least given the third entry a shot. One of the very best games on Switch in my view.
That “movement stopping every sixth frame” is I think the issue Digital Foundry complained about, with the physics simulation running at 50fps rather than 60. Good on the devs!
Gaming layoffs have been substantial, but "having some layoffs take place within their team or company" is an extremely broad way of defining "impacted by layoffs." The 7% number is bad enough without inflating the statistic.
Should make for a fascinating end product. Even with the original team involved, game design expectations have changed in the past 20 years and that has to affect their own standards. Think of something as small as checkpointing, which has become far more generous in games.
The secret to avoiding TOTK overload is to stay out of the middle layer. The sky and depths are both much more calming. It’s Hyrule where you’ll be bombarded with stable sidequest – random traveller – falling sky rock – new cave – camping Korok – geoglyph etc etc.
Those things are fun but when you want some peace and quiet, it’s time to evacuate the Zelda sandwich.
Remarkable game, and the Switch ought to be able to run it at least as well as the Xbox 360 did. Will be interested to follow the Digital Foundry coverage and whether the physical copy is self-contained. If it passes muster technically then yes, I’d say it’s worth the asking price.
Regardless of the game, that US box art is iconic. I’d argue it’s among the best box sets of the era. It tells you nothing about the game and yet demands you find out more. Beautifully composed, colored and presented.
I get it. Tears can be overwhelming at times. Maybe it needs a "distraction" slider setting that'd allow the player to dial down some of the serendipitous encounters a bit.
Rhythm games are (post-Guitar-Hero era) extremely niche. I tried the demo for Cadence but hadn’t the musical sense to stick with it. They’re a cool team making cool products, but the market for those may just not be very big.
The severance and support mentioned in the PR give me hope the affected will land on their feet quickly.
In my dreams the home release includes a version of the movie with all of Brian Tyler’s music intact. I don’t mind the 80 hits – in fact, I quite enjoy them – but it’d be great to have the option.
Seriously though: Samus’ single line in Dread was unexpected yet perfectly executed. I could see something like that working for Link, if handled very carefully.

Re: Nintendo Announces 'Nintendo Museum Direct'
Nintendo Switch Successor isn’t the name I’d have gone with, but I suppose we’ll get used to it.

@NinChocolate I noted that too. This isn’t a gender politics thing either; just seemed like an odd way to phrase it. But whatever.
Re: Ed Boon Teases First Look At The Next Mortal Kombat Movie
@Serpenterror I don’t think ”King of the Hills” is the correct name of the in-universe SF tournament. Do you have a better source? https://streetfighter.fandom.com/wiki/World_Fighting_Tournament
Re: Review: Thank Goodness You're Here! (Switch) - A Face-Achingly Funny British Romp
Really useful review!
I think I wouldn’t “get” enough of the game’s humor for it to be worth my time; but I’m glad it exists and hope it finds a lot of fans.

Re: Soapbox: 20 Years After His Last Mainline Appearance, Tingle Deserves A Comeback
Nintendo has made a few mistakes in its time. Tingle is not the worst of them, but he’s not the least of them either.
Re: The Pokémon Company Banked $10.8 Billion In Retail Sales Last Year
I suppose we should make allowances for the quality of their titles in light of the financial situation. Hope everyone lands on his or her feet.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Who Is Sylux?
I tend to agree with those who believe Sylux’ companions are mochtroids rather than metroids; but great summary!
Re: Miyamoto Shares Surprise Update About New Mario Movie Ahead Of Nintendo Direct
I’m going to assume this was for investors, because a release date almost two years out hardly seems worth mentioning otherwise.

Re: Hands On: Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Delivers More Than Just A Hi-Def Upgrade
I feel like it’d be hard to go back to this from Luigi’s Mansion 3. Man that’s a great game.
Re: Balatro Special Edition Physical Release Announced For Switch
@FantasiaWHT I’m not sure about that metric. It doesn’t seem like a game many would want to watch rather than play.

Re: Review: Penny's Big Breakaway (Switch) - A Furiously Fast & Fun Platformer With Sega Spirit
I enjoy many 30fps games.
A fast-moving game in which the player is literally graded on precision of movement has got to run at 60fps.
This was on my radar, and I hope it does well; but that’s a real shame.
Re: Soapbox: I Hated Metroid: Zero Mission At First, Until I Loved It
I don’t blame Ollie; I blame the Prime series for creating false Metroid expectations.

Definitely interested to see how this goes.

Re: Homage's Range Of Tecmo Bowl Apparel Looks Like A Touchdown For Retro Sports Fans
@JJtheTexan Given these are official team logos, I wouldn’t assume Homage had a lot of say in how they could be reproduced.
Aesthetically, I do agree and would probably prefer the Browns offering for its pixel purity (and 70s retro colors).
