Just showed my 9 year old son who cant wait. He picked up the Wii U gamepad when he was 5, randomly started Mario Maker, and learned how to make levels on his own from trial and error (b4 he could read). Hes now an expert but hes been going on and on about all the things from the other Mario games that have been missing from Maker .... now he's seen this trailer his prayers have been answered.
Played it on PS4. Starts off brilliantly. Really nailed the futuristic setting and its fun interrogating the neighbours and searching for clues. The problem is the mind-jacking sections, which are downright appalling. These are ultimately just a series of trippy, random images flashing in your face with no obvious solution of what to do. Really despised these sections and they really brought the game down from a potential 8 or 9 to a 5/10.
Ive loved all the SteamWorld games til now but .... NNOOOO. I HATE turn based games .... the ONLY one I ever loved was SteamWorld Heist!! and this is nothing like SteamWorld Heist. The new art style doesn't exactly look like a SteamWorld game either. ... and ... cards. Yeuch
Ooohh ... "Paragraph 76" Games .... probably my fave paragraph in gaming history EVER!! ... AND "starting 20 games shock" (no less) and everything!! SOLD!
Loving this game ... or I was until I got to that DAMN HAUNTED MANSION!!! That flippin' (over-)elaborate light puzzle was really twistin' my melon!! Finally got that blasted dining room key .. the sense of achievement after completing it was immens but the journey was a real slog and a major test of endurance and resourcefulness! Gone back to loving it again ..... Great game. Right up there with Hollow Knight which is no faint praise.
When I saw the trailers I thought this looked pants but i'm really loving this game. Played a good few hours, on the Pirate Ship just now. The power ups come thick and fast, lotsa weapon/gear upgrades to unlock too. Absolutely stunning graphics and a its joy to hear modernised versions of WonderBoy in Monsterland (my fave Master System game) choons. Hard to fault ... The price is pretty steep though and i'm pretty sure the PS4 version is cheaper (again). Really wish the boxart/trailer didn't show all the characters you unlock .. woulda been nice to be surprised. Still, this should be a no-brainer purchase for any Metroidvania fans.
Hope the rubber has improved in quality. My two previous experiences with the sf30pro and sn30pro sn edition were poor ..... both started crumbling from the 1st time I used em. The analogue sticks disintegrated like pencil erasers. Shame as its probably the best pad ive used apart from that flaw.
This is completely useless. We have 3 Switches in the house. The option for me to play my games on my son's Switch is DOA! The service I want is the ability to play online together with my kids without being made (fleeced) to purchase the same bloody game 3 times. . . Even Sony lets us do that with the 2 PS4s we have!!
Is this really an issue anymore. Pretty sure hundreds of thousands have people have full romsets, still easily downloaded today, despite Nintendo's (pathetic and irrelevant) closing of rom distribution on a handful of sites. I have zero qualms about having emulators and roms on every one of my consoles, handheld and home. Nintendo should just create "Official Switch Emulators" for Snes/Nes/GBA etc , dump all their roms (no need for time consuming instructions, explaining remapped controls etc) onto their site and charge $2 a game. Even then i'd still rather stick with Retroarch but i'm sure 1000s wouldnt mind coughing up for old games if the price was consistently low.
Joycons that are reliable. Ive got 4 of those buggers, treated em well and sl doesnt work on ANY of them, the lights dont work on 2 of them and r3 doesnt work on the two right ones. Useless ... cant play ANYTHING in table top mode as I cant connect any of my joycons when split up!
Other M is underrated. REALLY liked that game. Super Metroid is still best by a mile. TBH, i'd rank the 2 GBA games and Super M above ALL the first person games. I didnt think the Metroids translated all that well into 3D and, although I enjoyed them, they werent a patch on the side scrollers. Having had a Zelda marathon recently ive realised I also prefer the 2d old school Zeldas too.
... shutting down sites is pointless. Roms and full romsets are available on tons of rom sites and torrent sites too. Its like shutting down the dude's site who created AM2R ... its still freely available with new updates.
I dont think I "GET" Roguelikes or Rogue-lite games. Played a few and played Dead Cells on PC .. still dont get it. Is it like ... if a game has a 12 hour campaign but if you die after 11 hrs 58 mins, you have to play through the WHOLE THING AGAIN!! Id hate ANY game like that. If Super Metroid or Link to the Past had a "die once and restart from beginning" rule... id absolutely despise them!
Just finished a Metroidvania marathon of Hollow Knight, Owlboy, Aggelos and Mummy Demastered and loved em all. Started Ghost 1.0 yesterday and finding it really monotonous. Enter room, trigger alarm, fight off enemies ... repeat... repeat .. repeat. Does it get any better?
I never planned on it but im 100% digital now. Gave my old PS4 to my niece so going digital means we can share all my games on both her PS4 and my Pro... Went digital on Switch coz my 8 year old just cant be trusted with those tiny carts and, TBH, 100% digital makes more sense on a handheld. Doubt there'll be any game shops left by 2022!
10/10 for me. Fave game of last year, including Zelda and Odyssey. Team Cherry have really undervalued it. Id ve been more than happy to pay £50 for it. An absolute steal at £10.
Apart from the price, the name doesnt exactly roll off the tongue. This for £40 .... or the fantastic Hollow Knight (75+ hrs of sublime Metroidvania gaming) for £10. No contest!
Fave game of last year (including Zelda and Mario) and a far better example of the genre than Samus Returns. Literally cant believe a game of this quality is only £10.99. An absolute steal. When the map opens up you realise just how much care and attention to detail has been put into creating it. I hated it at first, played the first 15 hrs on Mac and the controls werent accurate enough to keep up with the precision needed for battles and pin point platforming. Was about to quit (and smash my controller in a rage) for good but as a last resort I turned off VSync in the settings which completely rectified the issue. Poured 75+ hours into it and enjoyed it so much! Having a handheld version would be a dream! Envious of those that haven't played it yet.
Gggrrrrrrr..... play this co op with my 8 yr old on PS4. Great game. Frustrating, difficult, nauseating but also rewarding .... when u finally clear a level after 30 fails the sense of relief is amazing!! 9/10
Thats is one I mightve actually be interested in ... only because my N64 romset doesnt have a decent emulator on any of my hacked consoles. WiiU is probably best and even thats pretty iffy. BUT ... NO RARE would be an absolute dealbreaker!!
9 for me. My 6 yr old and I both loved it on PS4. Handheld version for his Switch is a no brainer. He'll love playing through it again. I must be pretty patient as Im never really bothered by loading times in any game, certainly not enough to dock points off a good game.
If it was actually a proper game id invest in it for me and my 8 year old boy. It does scream tech demo though. Shame. If your going to create something like this you have to give a full experience. The design is flawed too..... How hard would it have been to laminate the card to reinforce it and made it splash proof?
Outlast 2 was one of my most anticipated games last year having loved Outlast and Whistleblower. Was so disappointed.... its all over the place. Scary moments, sure, but those awful, repeated flashbacks in the school are sooooo boring. Think the devs had a bigger budget and didnt know how to utilize it. Shame ... adored the first 2 games.
After the NintyLife Detention (a truly atrocious game) Review, I swore I'd never get burned again ... however ... since this is only £5 ... i'll take the plunge!
Its not bad. Defo worth a look if you enjoyed games like Lone Survivor. Its probably a 6 -7 for me but a 9 seems pretty high. Enjoying the creepy atmosphere, it isnt actually scary though ... and I just dont seem to be engaging with the actual "story" (if there actually is one) so far.
Got 5 128GB cards for 3ds, Wii U, Switch, Phone and TV. £20 each. Doubt I would ever need more memory for any device, especially portable ones. At those prices for the really big uns, I hope they come with a lifetime guarantee. Still think its one of the most incredible feats of modern tech .... How TF can something as small as the nail on your pinky store 800 vhs movie cassettes??!!
Imagine the look on your childs face when he screws up his Labo kit the day he buys it... or tears 1 bit the wrong way which renders it useless.. Ninty should really consider reinforcing it by laminating it. That way it would be almost tear proof and spillage proof.
I played bout 15 hrs and was hating it ... overwhelmed by the size and the controls seemed awful - played on Mac with dual shock 4 and was finding the controls to be laggy, sluggish and imprecise ... the platforming and combat (particularly the bosses) has to be spot on in a game like this so kept dying repeatedly through no fault of my own. Was gonna give up and smash the controller. As a last resort I dipped into the graphical options and turned off v-sync .... which completely fixed the control issue. Ended up loving it and played 50hrs +. It does take a while to get into but once u get the hang of it and start uncovering new areas it becomes magical. Managed to get a 95% completion and prob my fave game of year. Actually even preferred it to Breath of the Wild and would say its probably the best example of the genre EVER (maybe even including Super Metroid). Defo gonna double dip and get Switch version also. At £15 on Mac, it was probably the best value for money game ive ever played... hopefully the dreaded Switch Tax doesnt rear its ugly head.
It shouldnt be free ... but nor should they receiving a 2000% mark up either. They'll be making money on the software .. thats fine. Given that it isnt exactly robust material, why not just sell replacement cardboard at cost price. I certainly wont be buying replacements at £20 for £0.02 worth of cardboard.
They should sell replacement kits at low or almost cost price. Make money on the software ... fine. But theyre not gonna be selling me more cardboard with a 2,000% mark-up!!
Think id put Mario first now... loved BotW on Wii U and sneakily played Odyssey solo (on my 8yr old sons xmas present Switch) when it released. Finished it while collecting bare minimum of moons and thought it was great but not quite 10/10. Having gone back and played Odyssey co-op with my son, enjoying it so much more. Although we completed it after 3 days we're now hunting for every moon we missed now ... gonna take a good while. Loving every minute. Glad Edge have the integrity to put Ninty games 1st and 2nd. Most publication's yearly awards seem to have a problem with awarding Ninty the top 2 spots for some weird reason.
Who the hell prices these ... I bought Wonderboy on release for PS4 for £15 ... saw it today in my local game shop, G-Force, retailing at £47.99!!! For Wonderboy!!?? A fairly nice remake of an ancient Master System game... but stil ...almost £50!!! Do devs actually know retailers are selling at these prices .... or are game retailers sneakily marking up the price hoping parents will stump up before xmas?! All the "smaller" games on this list seem over priced to almost crazy levels!!
