Yes I bought it, I'm a sucker for taking objects that exist in a game/movie/tv show & making real life versions of them.
Examples that spring to mind are the Sports Almanac from Back to the Future, Journal 3 from Gravity Falls or the Wind Waker baton from some game I remember playing, I think it was called "the boat that couldn't speed up".
@Lizuka fyi it's 112 pages. $25 for 100+ pages seems the going rate for Dark horse published hardcover books.
When they're new, the standard 32-40 page picture books are actualy quite expensive. Look up "Flat Cat: The Class Pet" it's a 40 page illustrated childrens book released this year & the rrp is $18.99 (amazon have it for $17.66 right now)
A lot of people here are thinking about jump mechanics in a very 2 dimensional way...literally.
Controlling and jumping in a 3d plain with a dpad is a very different problem to solve than jumping in a 2d environment.
Creating a system that more closely replicated analogue movement with only digital inputs is/was unique & explains why jumping/aerial movement in particular felt so atrocious in the Crash1 remake.
@Polvasti The Icons for switch online classic games all use Key Art from their specific games.
The keyart used in the poster was all Metroid 2 stuff that NOA recycled to create a magazine poster. Nintendo wouldn't consider that Super Metroid key art.
When they eventually do icons for Metroid 2 this will be the one they use.
@jfp it works on all european nintendo store prices that use the euro.
BOTW is €70 on switch , switch 2 edition is €80, upgrade €10
TOTK is €70 on switch , switch 2 edition is €80, upgrade €10
Kirby is €60 on switch , switch 2 edition is €80, upgrade €20
MPJ is €60 on switch , switch 2 edition is €80, upgrade €20
Seems to work on GBP too. But unlike the other currencies, the "bigger" upgrades (kirby etc) cost more than double the smaller ones "(zelda) So either it doesn't work here or the uk is getting screwed lol.
botw/totk are £60 switch 2 version is £67, so upgrade would be £7
mpj/kirby etc are £50 switch 2 version is £67 so upgrade would be £17
@Yoshi3 The "excuse" is that those other games you reference should never have been $60 or $70 in the first place, game prices for the last decade especially were too cheap to be sustainable. Not just because of development time & costs but the economy too.
Thanks to the insomniac hack, we know that sony needed to sell 7.2 million copies of Spider-man 2 at $70 just to break even. That's an insane number that 90% of AA or AAA games wouldn't get near. Nevermind the millions more needed to make a worthwile profit.
That right there is why Sony has been shifting to multi plat stuff. Even at $70 per game the profit margins are significantly less than they were a 10 years ago when they were selling them for less.
It's been ommited in this article, but in the full transcript Layden says he should've increased the cost of games every new gen by $5 to counteract the rising costs. Had they done so, Today the standard cost would be $90. A $5 every 6-8 years would be a lot more easy to swallow than a random $20-30 increase after 20+ years of a fixed rate.
Unfortunately this was coming, everyone's been predicting for ages that GTA 6 will be at least $100. That was always going to disrupt the industries pricing structures. Games were never going to stay $60-70 after that game was released & found huge success at $100+. Some games were going to be $100 too but others were going to end up at $90 or $80. Nintendo is just forcing that reality on us a bit earlier than expected.
Was easy to deduce this, Nintendo weren't going to discount the og switch prices or offer the upgrade cheaper to sell these versions. So I figured the rrp of the switch 2 version minus the rrp of the og switch version game would give us the upgrade cost.
BOTW sw2 is $70, og game rrp is $60, upgrade is $10
TOTK sw2 is $80, og game rrp is $70, upgrade is $10
Kirby sw2 is $80, og game rrp is $60, upgrade is $20
MPJ sw2 is $80, og game rrp is $60, upgrade is $20
@NintendoWife Firstly you're most welcome for what is clearly a quick & swift reply
Secondly, it's pretty common to round down rather than give specific numbers.
Of the ps2/gc/xbox gen, only GC has specific numbers, the other 2 are rounded down to the nearest million.
If you look at the site that revealed this number, all numbers have been rounded down (probably some of the specs too). In the case of the ps4 they actually revealed years earlier that it had sold more than 117,200,000 but they rounded it down to 117 million.
For all the people questioning the ps2 sales. Whilst just randomly announcing it as switch closes in sounds dodgy, it actually lines up with estimates from 6 years ago.
if you google "reset era ps2 not 158" 1st result should be a reset era discussion about ps2 lifetime sales from 2018. with the help of ZhugeEX (the data analysts who provides all the game/console sales we see reported all the time) they calculated that the number sold would be between 159.2m & 161.9m.
So the 160 million number checks out.
Also worth pointing out aswell whilst the updated ps2 sales made all the headlines, Sony actually updated ALL the console sales for the playstation's 30th anniversary. PS2 wasn't the only one that changed, tho that didn't make the headlines.
@shoeses holo (3 diamond rarity) & ex's are still quite rare.
I've had the goal of getting a card for each gen 1 pokemon & so have focused on Genetic Apex.
There are 15 ex & 42 basic holos.
Across 178 genetic apex packs, I've averaged 1 ex every 15 packs & 1 holo every 5 packs. I've also done 250+ wonder picks & I'm still missing 15(2 ex 13 holo) of these cards.
My partner has been playing too, they've opened a further 129 packs & done 140 wonder trades. So Across the 2 accounts (307 packs opened & 390+ wonder picks) we still haven't got all the basic EX & holos from the 1st set. (missing 7 or 8)
That illustrates how big a task getting all the basic ex & holo cards are. (that's not including character arts)
If trading was unlimited you could bypass the limitation of the f2p system with a 2nd account finish the set in half the time & effort that folk who play f2p legit could. Which is especially unfair in regards to deck building. Which can take a lot of time if you're not a whale.
@Banjo- That's because in 3D games of that era frame rate was often tied into animation. Most 1st party n64 games are just capped at the fps they were designed at for that reason. Which is why every VC release only runs at 20 fps no matter the hardware.
...though I dunno if the 3ds remake is designed like that. But that not hitting 60 would be a 3ds limitation if it isn't.
@awp69 they are making a new game. They've confirmed this "helps set foundations" for other things they're working on.
I imagine just like the Metroid prime remaster, they're using this project to iron out the base formula (controls, physics, camera) for their next game.
@NiallMitch14 I suggest reading the patents rather than go by the headline.
whilst "Riding a creature in an environment" would technically be accurate, the patent is not that vague.
It's about mounts having specific functions in specific environments & switching between them seemlessly to navigate spaces(there are lots of other specific ideas & details too)
@Fallingshadow, Actually if you watch him play either on youtube or twitch he only uses "broken" fighters or "broken" teams like MSP (magneto, storm & psylocke) if the opponent does.
The ettiquette among the MVC2 "pro players" as you put it is that they never choose their team first. If you don't choose a full team of broken characters neither do they.
To quote him in his latest mvc2 youtube vid "if you're an MSP player & you get rank 1. It shouldn't count cause you're cheating."
This guy in particular is renowned for his ability to use weird & "awful" teams & making them viable. He much prefers using those.
So If he uses a "broken" team (especially if he starts doing infinites) he's just bullying the bullies.
@Angelic_Lapras_King The squishy metroid was actually restocked too. The amiibo restock went live on Friday. It was sold out a few days before Nintendolife posted this.
Though apparently it's not as squishy as the first print. (Already have original so hesitated to buy another)
@AlexanderDaniels You realise that did actually make sense.
Those icons were part of the "N.E.S nintendo switch online" & all Icons were related to the content of that app in someway.
Famicom & Famicom disk system exclusive games are included in that app. They are also labeled in the details as famicom/Famicom disk system exclusive games. So makes sense to show you what the famicom/famicom disk systems are.
As for the accessories, the ones shown were used/compatible in some of those japanese only games. e.g. the tape recorder & keyboard were used for the creation content in "vs excitebike".
If the theories that the next pokemon game on switch will be gen 5 related (either a remake or legends arceus style story) that list will go down to 1 soon enough.
@GarlicGuzzler yes & no. Whilst the online functions of the 3ds/wii u are being disabled it's been confirmed that Pokemon Bank WILL continue to function after.
However this is NOT permenant. What they're most likely going to do is leave it running but not actively ensure it functions properly beyond "early 2024".
basically, whilst bank will still work after the online is closed off, they're not making any guarantees bank will work beyond that early 2024 date.
Bank could continue working perfectly for 10 years after the online closure or something could go wrong 2 months later and it's not getting fixed.
So if you use Bank BEFORE "early 2024" you've got nothing to worry about. If you try to use it after that you should be ok, but there's no guarantee.
@tkdboy1889 "There's also the fact that Jim Ryan explicitly countered himself in an internal email."
In all likelyhood they knew from the start this was going through, & it was all a delaying tactic. probably to get their own multiplayer fps on the market asap.
it's worked, this deal was announced 18 months ago.Meanwhile Sony have been putting together a triple A multiplayer FPS game made by ex bungie & activision people, which is out next year.
@Nua long story short someone claiming to be a programmer at a pokemon outsourcing company posted leaks about the dlc. A few days later tpc released first details about the dlc & everything they revealed was in the leak. Which adds some credibility to the other bits in that leak that have yet to be confirmed.
I bring this up because in that 'leak' he also claimed they are working on a 'graphic enhancement patch' for the new switch model to be released alongside the 2nd part of the dlc'
