Re: Talking Point: Cloud Gaming On Switch – The Pros And Cons Of The Cloud

@JoeyTS people here have a big misconception that not liking something and having an opinion on why it's bad means you don't think others are not allowed to have an opinion too, or enjoy and buy what is available on the marketplace. Reading the comment you are referring to makes it sound like we are protesting outside Nintendo, not sounding off on a message board.

@SwitchForce on top of that you have to take into account distance to the cloud server. And jump points in between. You can have a super fast download with a second of overhead lag for the packets and never know it.

There is a reason most online games use predictive rendering now where it estimates the next frame if it doesn't get data points and then makes up the difference later. Can't exactly do that with an entire screen. I agree it's super complicated

Re: Control: Ultimate Edition Is Available Now On Switch, But There's A Catch

@NEStalgia I think it's more about survival for them right now. I hate to see Nintendo sell out to streaming companies in order to keep games going. I lost power overnight due to storms and broke out the 3DS this morning. Nintendo are still my goto for portables and I just hope they don't end up losing their integrity over wanting new third party games.

Maybe I was just in denial before that this could be a reality because I don't like it anymore than you do.

I would hate for it to become that system that's cool when it works, and also has some crappier looking games on it you can play anytime. Rather than, that system that doesn't value graphics over gameplay and values the user's experience over all else.

Re: Control: Ultimate Edition Is Available Now On Switch, But There's A Catch

doctorhino

@NEStalgia while I don't disagree with that for certain games I find it hard to believe they will leave full portability behind. It won't always be feasible to stream games so there will still have to be a fair share of games that play natively. I love stuff like gamepass because I use it at home in front of one tv with a hard wired connection but I like having switch to play anywhere in any internet/lack of internet setting. I dont have the stomach for this model either, hopefully it doesn't catch on. I don't know how much mileage Microsoft get out of streaming games to smart phones and tablets but I don't use it.

I feel like we just got close to the finish of this long strange trip to everything becoming digital and stuff like this just reaffirms people's fears that game companies want to take away ownership from the players for good.

I think we will see another nvidia portable streaming device before Nintendo go all in on this.

It's just a matter of time before we have a cloud only handheld gaming system from Amazon or something...

The big problem here is you tell someone you have control for switch. They're like, let's see it. You break out your device and their wifi is crap so the game just looks like a joke... Or you try to play this on the road and eat up all your hotspot phone data. Anyone know how much bandwidth it actually uses?

Re: Phil Spencer "Not Sure" About Game Pass On Switch, But Says Xbox Could Be Open To Discussions

doctorhino

@NEStalgia I mean you over simplify it then say well it's extremely complicated behind the scenes. It's unprofitable is my theory, you have a different one apparently. But attempting to speak for Microsoft (because they gave gamestop money) or Nintendo (because they allow 2 games to stream in japan) is kind of a stretch. I don't know what went down with negotiations but it was on the table at one point and was taken off. I'm going to say Nintendo aren't so happy go lucky about the deal as you might think. They make a lot of money off those eshop fees and anything to cut into that would be bad for them. They're not going to make 30% of game prices on gamepass. They obviously didn't value it and see it as a positive or they would have worked with them. They must have some kind of a relationship because of all the ports and the fact that they don't see eachother as direct competitors.

Re: Phil Spencer "Not Sure" About Game Pass On Switch, But Says Xbox Could Be Open To Discussions

doctorhino

@NEStalgia do you have gamepass? Cause I do and the outer worlds has been in there for ages. Rentals never lasted months on end and came 10 at a time with 90 still at home. A lot of games will stick around forever so it's like a rental service that lets you keep every microsoft game for free pretty much for the price of a few games a month from the old guys, even in 90s pricing. It's not even an analog to the experience you get from blockbuster or redbox.

Re: It's Been Three Years Since We First Embarked On A Super Mario Odyssey

doctorhino

Super Mario 3D World got me to buy a Wii U and this game got me to buy a Switch (already had BOTW on wiiU). It wasn't the most challenging but I'd been burned out by difficult mario games after trying to complete New Super Luigi U. It's been a lot of years but I probably wont' play through it again just because I've seen it all and I spent so much time grinding my way past 350 moons on my one save.

Re: Phil Spencer "Not Sure" About Game Pass On Switch, But Says Xbox Could Be Open To Discussions

doctorhino

@electrolite77 anyone with gamepass has little to no incentive to buy any of the games on gamepass. Microsoft pay the companies to promote their own brand, so why would Nintendo have a huge ad for microsoft and have the companies involved only get paid for xbox offsets. Microsoft would start having to pay them for their offset in sales on Switch. Then Nintendo wouldn't get any of the publishing credits of games sold on the store so they'd have to pay them too.

It's just very expensive to have to satisfy both the owner of the platform and the publishers of the games at the same time.

@Kiwi_Unlimited Plus the existence of God is neither political or social. Not sure if there is something more to the dialog that wasn't mentioned.

Playing through it it does pick some fun at Christianity. Basically there are people with halos above their heads supposedly spreading the word of how the place was created. There is also a trophy called jesus christ suprastar where you "Get Mr. Miracle some groupies". Making fun of religion shouldn't get a game deducted in points no matter what your belief. It's just a fact of reality religion attempts to define the unknown.

Re: Review: Supraland - A Playful Platformer With Squandered Potential

Going to give this one a try on xbox game pass to see for myself.

So far I can confirm the graphics are muddy on xbox as well. Combat is pretty much just flailing around. The world is interesting and there seem to be a variety of things to do at any given time. Just collecting and upgrading so far. I guess I'll have to see if it gets annoying but I'm pleasantly surprised for a 4/10 game.

This is actually a really fun game so unless someone can attest to it bring broken on Switch not sure the reviewer knew how to do 3d platforming. I mean yeah you have to take your time a heck of a lot more than 2d platforming.

Re: 2D Metroidvania DeathStick Brings Dimension-Shifting Platforming To Switch

doctorhino

@UmbreonsPapa you're right it's the description for the game on steam, didn't even notice that, well it's fair game I suppose, every site is quoting them on the steam description.

While I still disagree with the term being good in this case it's the developers marketing team pushing the genre description so they're just being pigeonholed by themselves.

I think the biggest difference between something like this and normal genres is it's a genre built out of the name of 2 existing game. We don't call platformers marionics. There is a difference between something being an issue and something just being completely lame too.

Re: The Original Fire Emblem Is Coming To The West For The First Time Ever On Switch

doctorhino

@JoeyTS @UmbreonsPapa They told us, it's limited. Plan on them going away forever. Then when they save the day by bringing them back we can curse them again for fooling everyone.

It's kind of dumb, it's not like everyone on earth can't emulate them if they wanted to. You would think (like with the Virtual Console) they want to make legit sales available for anyone who has integrity to buy them.

Re: 2D Metroidvania DeathStick Brings Dimension-Shifting Platforming To Switch

doctorhino

@UmbreonsPapa I think the term is a little patronizing. It's like calling a game a derivative. Since when has any game company called their own game a metroidvania? It's just gaming press.

Rogue like, straight platformer, rpg elements, weapon collecting, none of that is explained with the name. It's just inferred there is some of one or more of those and a somewhat open map system.
