The first paid DLC for Lonely Mountains: Downhill is now available on Nintendo Switch, celebrating a major milestone for the game with some very welcome new content.
Called 'Eldfjall Island', the DLC adds brand new challenges across four trails, with new outfits, paint jobs, and accessories to unlock along the way. It's the "biggest and most versatile mountain" added to the game so far according to the development team, and also comes with new special effects like thunderstorms and an active volcano.
Features:
- Four new trails with new challenges and resting spots
- New special effects: Ride through a Thunderstorm and navigate alongside an erupting volcano
- Satisfy your inner Viking and unlock unique outfits, helmets, and paint jobs
- Upgrade your existing outfits with the new pro helmet
- Complete your fashion style with new unlockable backpacks
- Make your name famous on the leaderboards!
The DLC arrives as the game reaches its first anniversary (it first launched on 23rd October 2019 on other platforms, before coming to Switch earlier this year). It also recently surpassed 1.2 million total players.
Eldfjall Island is available to download from the eShop right now for $5.99 / €5.99. We gave the base game a mightily high score of 9/10 in our review, so you can be sure that you'll have a good time if you decide to dive in.

Such a great game. I'll try to find time to check out the DLC at some point.
Does it come now with a online mode?
@Scrubicius There are online leaderboards but there's no multiplayer of any sort.
Can't wait to swoop this up.
I have got to buy this game at some point. It looks like so much fun for a deep dive. And it might help fill my undying need for an SSX game.
Awesome news! Lonely Mountains is hands down one of my all time favourite indies. I even double dipped on PS4 as well as Switch, so I’m definitely grabbing the DLC. Though just on Switch.. for now! 😉
Really enjoy this game, nice to see new content
One of those games I can't play coz I suck but like to see others speedrun on youtube
The progression system in this game is epic. I love earning new bikes and trying out paths I couldn't do before. It takes a bit to learn but it doesn't glitch you out or play unfairly.
I like descenders too but it needs to be more like this game in a lot of ways.
How's the performance? Did they fix the initial issues?
@doctorhino I totally agree with you. Great game!
I want to get this DLC but that last mountain really kicks my @$$. I was on a mad roll completing challenges for all the others but the final mountain is just suicide. I know it's supposed to be part of the fun but it really messes with my OCD so I worry this new mountain will be too similarly nuts.
@cheesedude There are still occasional frame drops, and very occasionally that causes you to crash, but overall it's a very minor point in a fantastic game.
@cheesedude I don't think so. I do wish this game ran a little better on the Switch.
I'd love a first person camera
I really love this game.
Great game, feels perfect on the Switch.
