Today sees the launch of Bandai Namco and Outright Games' Transformers: Battlegrounds on Nintendo Switch, and a brand new trailer has been released to celebrate.
Developed by UK team Coatsink, the game throws players into "intense" tactical combat and tells an original story within the Transformers universe. We were also recently treated to a gameplay trailer and details of a fancy digital-only deluxe edition, should that be of any interest to you.
TRANSFORMERS: BATTLEGROUNDS is an all-new tactical combat game, featuring fan favourite characters from the Transformers franchise including Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Starscream, and Megatron as they battle it out for control of the AllSpark in single-player and co-op gameplay. Combat takes place across an array of diverse levels, including iconic locations such as Central City and Cybertron where players will take command of their squad and fight together to save (or destroy) the galaxy.
"We are incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to work with Hasbro and create a new take on this iconic franchise," says Terry Malham, CEO of Outright Games. "We have grown up with the Transformers Universe and are excited to be involved with the publication of this game."

From the looks of it I'm not very impressed. Looks like a mobile game. Sure has been a while since a really good transformers game came out. Fall of Cybertron or Transformers Devastation port for switch anyone?
@Zeldafan79 I’d even take a remaster of the 2004 Armada game. Just something besides this.
@Zeldafan79 I would be all over a devastation port.
I prefer the original Transformers (when Bumblebee was a VW Beetle). Not interested in the new
@Gerald
Yeah G1 is the best! Well except for the part where they decided to murder the entire 1984 toy line including Optimus prime right in front of our eyes in 86 movie. I'm still pissed about that one.
It really annoys me when they could do so much with this and they end up making a crappy ps2 looking game which looks as interesting as a bus riding by! Maybe am wrong but lets see what the reviews say! 👍
As long as the strategy is sound, I'm all in. Really liked the 3ds tbs one. This looks a lot deeper.
seen mixed reviews. if find it on sale ill buy it
@ryobi85 the reviews ive seen say it looks like a ps2 game lol
@Anguspuss
More like a PS1 game LOL!
I'm actually very interested in this but there's numerous factors that turn me off the game. I'm waiting to see what people say about it. The last Transformers game I really enjoyed was Devastation. A port of that game would be pretty sweet.
Well, I always liked the look of PS2 games. So I am fine with that.
G1 would have been a faster sell for me though.
This game would truly benefit from a demo.
@Spoony_Tech Yeah totally. It feels like a blank so far, even with trailers and infos.
They put a Transformers skin on CODENAME Steam?
And that's being generous.
@rjejr Codename Steam is a good game so leave that out of this lol.
@Spoony_Tech I thought I was being nice by mentioning it since nobody else had.
I could never get into Codename Steam b/c I thought those early trailers were for a 3rd person shooter, not turn based. Played the demo and I was like nah. Never finished Mario vs Rabbids either. A few hours in a big wind came and blew my team off a cliff and that was that. I was having fun until then, but once I stop a game for a few days I almost never go back.
@Xiovanni It is not listed on their website as being available for Android or iOS. There is a mobile transformers game of the free to play persuasion, though this looks to be a different one.
It looks more like Xcom-lite or a Mario Rabbids sort of thing. I do have some hopes that it will manage to be a decent facsimile, though I have not yet seen any reviews of it so I'm kind of sceptical.
A decent Transformers game would be a welcome addition but the Cyberverse setting that they have chosen for it really does not strike me as the franchise's best work.
@Xiovanni You'd think so, but it doesn't appear to be launching on Android or iOS
I'd pay no more than $20 for this, and I'm a huge Transformers and TBS fan.
If it's like Mario Rabbids I'm interested. I loved Transformers back in the day. I'll wait for the review.
This looks more like an insult to Transformers fans and Transformers Cyberverse. Sadly it is par for the course. This is a franchise where good games are the rarity.
Compare this to the Transformers Devastation which was made years ago and what the hell. This is an insult.
6/10 from SwitchWatch.
Not as bad as I feared but I’ll pass.
I’ll wait for a sale. I only care about the strategy aspect. No attachment to transformers.
Graphics, schmaphics. Is it fun?
Battlegrounds is misspelled in the YouTube video title lol
@Zeldafan79 raises hand Yes please to Devastation.
@Zeldafan79 yeah lol it looks awful unless it plays like a dream! Which i doubt then this going in the bargain bin after a month knah knah mnah😂😂😂🤣
@Zeldafan79
I wish Devastation would come to Switch!
Could they at least bring back the third person shooter back?
