Updated: Yesterday, Nintendo updated the Switch to version 10.0.3 - making it more stable than ever before, but that's not the only improvement it appears to have made in recent times. Over on the hybrid system's eShop, users have noticed there's now a filter icon in the top right corner of the sales section (also known as "current offers" or "great deals" in the UK and US).
Nobody seems to know when exactly this was added, but after investigating the change on our own Switch (running the 10.0.2 firmware) - we're fairly sure it was on the eShop sales page before version 10.0.3 arrived. Either way, it's still a relatively new addition to the sales page and should make searching for that next bargain much easier. Take a look at the update below:
What do you think of this latest Switch eShop improvement? What else could Nintendo do to make the store easier to navigate? Share your thoughts down below.

I saw it today, here in the UK it said 536... A massive amount of games of shovelware within that admittedly, but some good deals also... Now if only we had a tab/setting to remove the shovelware...
This isn't bad but they still have a long way to go.
A proper filter is needed and a user score too.
@BANJO Yea crap filter would be nice...
Sorting by % discount just as it is on Nintendo website would be a nice addition as well.
Wish they'd add a 'recently added to sale' filter , that would be most useful to me
It truly amazes me that 3 years in and the eshop is still so basic. With the amount of games on there now, a complete overhaul is what's needed. Too many developers will likely not have there games get the recognition they really deserve because they're never given enough of a spotlight. A user rating is desperately needed for starters.
Picked up Super Battle Cards yesterday for $0.07 as a 99% off sale and it’s pretty decent!
Suckered me in with the StreetFighter lettering, but it’s a unique gameplay I’ve never come accross.
For 7 cents I would highly recommend it.
6 cents if you count the 1 cents you get back in points! 😉
@tgchan Haha a crap filter, yes a % discount filter would be very useful, realistically implementing some sort of user score would help the best games rise to the top..
Press 'Y' to buy
I wish there was an option to filter out the titles you've bought & sort by price ascending / descending.
'Sale ending soonest' would be good too?
Yeah so many games, my wishlist needs constant attention to keep it low. I will still miss some belters off it because there's literally so much junk in the way of games I'm interested in.
The sales don't help, as alot are always discounted, but Never discounted enough to actually buy (Dragons Dogma I am looking directly at you..). One day I'll Chuck some gold at them I guess.
Xbox One and Switch still don't have a shopping cart.
Switch only have shopping cart for DLC.
@BANJO on ps4 store that rating didn't work at all. Almost all games were 4/5 or 5/5. OR maybe I haven't seen as much crap as on Nintendo store lol/
But yea, some kind of rating wouldn't hurt. But solid filter via rating&discount and other combination of 2-3 filters would get the job done.
That's just a quick jump to a feature that already existed in the advanced search. The big problem with that search in general is the price categories are totally fixed and don't match up well with the price distribution at all.
Out of the 525 titles on sale, 0 are in the $50+ categories, 2 are in $30 to $49.99, 78 are in $10 to $29.99 and 444 are in $0.01 to $9.99. 85% are in the bottom category!
$50+ is slightly more useful for not on sale titles, as it's basically a filter for full price retail games, but there's very rarely anything in it for with the On Sale filter. Even for the full eShop (3808 titles), only 3% of game are even in $50+ and 7% in $30 to $49.99. The bottom two are split roughly evenly as indie games fall into $10 to $29.99 but fall into under the bottom category when on sale. Plus there's about 7% in the free category which literally never has anything on sale in it even if it is free for some reason.
Dividing it up in $10 increments with the bottom end split up multiple ways would go a long way. The best option would be to just have a free search by price! It isn't like there's millions of records that need to be searched. This is a very small and long solved problem.
That's my personal pet peeve, and other changes given like being able to sort by soonest ending sale would be very good changes. I end up looking at the full list every week just to make sure I don't miss anything, and I probably still do if the sale runs between Thursdays.
@sikthvash There is an option to sort by price. It defaults to Best Sellers and is right below your user icon.
@dsparil Ah, thanks! I must have missed that!
Pretty sure the "current total on sale" was a thing for months if not outright years. Not using filters much in general, so I'll take your word for those.
Yes I spotted it almost immediately. It stuck out like a sore thumb to me
@tgchan I agree it's easy to abuse and means rating's sometimes don't work properly... To be efficient a combonation method is the best route, I think we may be waiting a while...
This is essentially how I already used to look through the games on sales. Just used to have to go through search instead.
@BANJO It's the main thing I hate about the shop, the shovelware and asset flips. I'd love to be able to filter them out.
@sikthvash You actually can sort by price ascending/descending.
@BenAV Aye, I need to clean my glasses evidently =0p cheers bud!
@Hughesy Yes, I have to scroll though so many title's sometimes to find a real bargain.. Often terrible titles in the sale sell much better than highly rated games at the same price...
@BANJO well, the filter already lets you browse by genre and prices range?
Want it or not, a lot of the "shovelware" is specifically what you'll find in the lower price ranges and aiming just for higher ranges than "the lowest possible" can often help.
Plus not all genres lend themselves well to "cheap games launched quick" either that make a lot of the category people thinks of as shovelware.
I don’t bother scrolling through the sale now, instead I just add games to my want list and wait for the discount to show up on there instead.
I just want to hear Wii-era music in the eShop.
Wii Shop Channel forever...
I've been wanting a filter for the deals page, always looked for one, out of wishful thinking. That's definitely a recent addition, and a very welcome one.
I've been wanting a filter on the Wish List page, too. - like sort by price, and only show games on sale.
If we can filter the games both by price and by discount percentage, it'd be amazing.
Just use Deku Deals.
@FargusPelagius
It was 50% a month ago
It's nothing new. Its just simpler to access. It was always there.
That being said, last night I was playing some Wii U and went in the eShop. I thought to myself, "Why can't we have at the very least the same UI?" It would be so much easier to navigate through.....and less bland as well.
Amazing! I love the effort Nintendo is putting in their OS.

Come on... lazy *****!
@Moon While not quite the same, the Japanese eShop has the sale price time remaining on their listings under the thumbnail pic. From days, down to hours and minutes (don't know about seconds, though). I wonder why they haven't implemented that in the west. It sure beats clicking on every game on sale in my wishlist and scrolling down to find out when the sale's over.
@jamesthemagi I'll get it if it ever goes sub £10. It's always sub £10 on everything except Switch, like an awful lot of Capcom games.
I'm fully supportive of a user rating (scores restricted to those who own the software).
Hey guys, calm down. At least they added SOMETHING. But it is disappointing that a console and a handheld that predated the Switch by 5 years has more features.
@koekiemonster
I would even like an option to show installed games from my complete library
This gives me hope that someday before the end of the switch, we will see added: "Red theme"
@WoomyNNYes and everyone else:
I cannot recommend DekuDeals.com enough. It is everything the Switch eShop needs to be.
Filters, ignore lists, wishlists, screenshots, videos, links to Metacritic and Opencritic, you name it.
Did they fix the problem where the discounted games list slows to a crawl as soon as you start scrolling down?
Did they make it so your wishlist items delete after you purchase them, instead of having to manually remove them after each purchase?
Did they add folders?
Basic functionality would be a nice update to see someday.
I wish you could blacklist/ignore games so they don't appear on your page. It's not perfect and would be very time consuming but at least you could filter shovelware out of the way
One thing I've found the Switch eShop lacks, when compared to previous systems, is the absence of user ratings. Granted, these aren't always the most reliable, but they could still help sort through the shovelware trash and the indie gems.
My god it’s actually a miracle.
Give us catagories! Or at least just let me know what shmups are on sale.
@SuperWeird Freezing when trying to scroll is what good eshops do 🤪 I wish they'd address that too. It's amazing that issue existed before the game thumbnails showed screenshots.
Honestly, they have a long way before catching up DekuDeals. I don’t think they will ever catch up, besides the fact it is native vs web-only.
I use DekuDeals primarily, but if they could just sort out the slow/dumb asynchronous loading (what’s up w/ that?) I would probably use the eShop more… now it’s just a “quick” stop for purchase after browsing Deku.
Just wish it would stop showing purchased games at least. It's already painfully slow and cumbersome. Next let's be able to "mute" titles.
The ability to filter has been around for years. Just the filter icon making it more noticeable is new.
@RPGamer @ReikoMortis You can click on Developer, I'm sure I did it with Devolver and found all their games on the same page.
@BANJO search by price. It makes it easier to go past shovel ware. Ps and Xbox also have the shovel ware issue as well so it's not like Nintendo is the only one.
@Dirty0814 I understand this, certainly Nintendo is not the only one... However, unfortunately they have more shovelware than most... Overall, if you are committed you can find what you want, but it certainly could be made so much easier.....
An option to filter out the 2 hour indie games with horrible artwork would be a great and consumer-friendly move.
They need better tag options for games. When I search "strategy" I'm not looking for battle royales and shooters but games like Fortnite show up right at the top of the list. Yes of course there is a degree of strategy to those games but they aren't strategy games. The current tag system is far too loose. As it stands, tags like action or strategy are so broad that they cover hundreds and hundreds of games.
@Loserkid41 I thought that might be the case. I've updated the article to reflect the fact that the only thing added (and new here) is the filter icon.
@BANJO they did try a form of user scoring but people scored good games very low and bad games very high
@CodyMKW Yes, as it can be manipulated it makes it of little and in some instances no use what so ever having a user score.. When I buy a game I always look over a few review's online and some footage first before deciding whether to buy any game....
I just wish they'd put pages into it, the games lower down the list take so long to load that if you accidentally move left onto the categories as your moving down through the sale games, you lose your place and have to start all over again
@FargusPelagius
Dragon's Dogma has a case for best RPG of the past two decades. It's worth buying even at full price.
@flawse I don't even buy on the eShop app directly, but always online.
DekuDeals -> web eshop -> success.
Not saying you should do like me, but the eShop is a horrible experience on the Switch. It is soooo slow.
@TheWingedAvenger I already did. I'd gladly buy it again if it was available at the same price as ever other platform.
And in my experience it was good, isn't my favourite recent RPG though.
@jipiboily I've pondered that flow… perhaps one day! It shouldn't be that hard for Nintendo to fix it, but perhaps it's by design… their CDN's, proxies, servers or what-ev is not up for speedier delivery of content. Throttle time!
Needs to be able to sort from A to Z/
