i hope they leave the open world behind a bit and give us something more focused on story, music and bosses. A remake of The Adventure of Link is what i really want tho.
Are the designers at all related to the Darkest Dungeon creators? I really enjoy these types of games and seeing that this one is loads more colorful than DD, it will offer a nice counterbalance. i hope the gameplay is there. everything is SWITCHING!
@NEStalgia "I do agree with you that the 3rd party wave (in terms of western AAA 3rd party) isn't going to happen, never was going to happen, and was never in Nintendo's plans or estimates to happen. People are deluding themselves with that."
Thanks for saying that again. The game of expecting 3rd parties to happen is getting tiresome. Just look to Nintendo's past for clues. For Ninty it'd be icing on the cake but like you said it isnt factored into their gameplan. The PS1 generation changed everything and id venture to say we wont be going back. Nintendo and "Nindies" is enough, we'll see if the market continues to agree.
its been all Zelda all the time. the game has lived up to the hype imho. completely lost in the world theyve created. personally, i think the Zelda game shines brighter than the SWITCH hardware at this stage.
@AlexOlney I think yeah, its mostly irrelevant. The devaluation of videogames due to smart phones has warped peoples sense of value imho. i mean should we re-review all the out-of-print used games and lower their scores due to their escalating costs? Its still the same game; Kirbys Air Ride and FE Path of Radiance would be near Zeros at this point due to their high cost. I guess i just never knew price was factored into the review. perception of value is the key i guess, and its personal for everyone. Im not faulting the reviewer for including that to dock the score, at least they mentioned it. I was just confused that it somehow affected how the game played. idk. its a valuable conversation to have as one man's value is another mans trash.
"but as a free pack-in it would arguably have been much more appealing." -how does this affect the review score???? are we reviewing the sales tactics or the game?
have the people still hoping for "unprecedented 3rd party support" been paying attention the last few decades? Nintendo will NVR get the support of PSone or PC. If you want those games, the Switch isnt your system yo, move along.
Day One-er here! Nintendo is beginning their rebirth imho. Consolidated game-developing for ONE system is going to flip the script. look out world: Nintendo is back!
@Mr_Zurkon i'd say yes, even if its ur first SMT game. if u can purchase the leveling and item DLC it also allows you to control your levels and demons more easily, thereby customizing your experience (tho there are like 5 levels of difficulty for that) im generally a huge fan and have been playing for years, so my viewpoint of "friendly to beginners" may be skewed. it always requires strategy in battle, even with OP demons (ie: you cant just hit A) its dark and def "mature" i say give it a try
SMTIV can be replaced with SMTIVApocalypse now imho
Xenoblade surely should be on this list regardless of its ported-ness
and yes @GoldenGamer88 and @lateral_centro where is Tales of the Abyss?
and Stella Glow????
no matter the top 3DS RPG list made, the 3DSrpg catalogue rulz!
this by no means stops SMT:A from being one of my most anticipated titles this year. this and DQ7 rule the world (regardless of japanese text) no biggie
It's a testament to the development team that the game design itself is proving to override the reactionary hate machine. Glad to see them overcoming that. Wonder how many haters can overcome their ego and give it a try just based on all the positive reviews.
@IceClimbers in response to catch rates decreasing and pokemon breaking free more often i would attest to that. having played last night after the update there was a marked difference at all my usual catch haunts, and this was before i read any testimonials regarding such changes so i doubt placebo. ive been playing for weeks, something changed.
Super excited to see the new path Nintendo will forge! E3 is SO close! Everyone claiming the Wii U is having a short lifespan??? Maybe by a year at most (if NX releases this year) but 4 -5 years used to be the standard console cycle until Sony and M$ came on the scene. And compared to other ' electronic device' developers, thats like decades (iphone says hi)
in 2016 i hope: Zelda U still has wiimote controls a la skyward sword. SMTxFE releases during the summer. FE Fates lives up to the hype. Pokemon Z appears with finally FULL 3D. Xenoblade Chronicles X sees updates. MOTHER 3 localization happens for VC. DQ XI has DQ IX elements. Stella Glow goes on sale;) MHX gets localized in NA/worldwide. Zelda TPHD amiibo integration is expanded. A new REAL animal crossing game is released, features amiibo released. StarFox blows everyones mind! the pink bunny from Badge Arcade remains my BFF. and NX blindsides everyone in the best way.
in 2015 Great, Classic games were released: Splatoon shook the world, SMM fulfilled long dreamt dreams, Yoshis WW was a return to form, Kirbys RC presentation and gameplay wowed, Captain Toad TT charmed pants off (depending on region it was 2015,) and my personal fave XCX is continually blowing my mind...and thats just some of the Wii Us gems. also, there was that thing called amiibo which went into overdrive in 2015 (say-about-them/do-with-them what you will, but i personally kinda luv 'em.) There were missteps with the new3DS re: options and exclusives imho, but guess who bought the MM special ed anyway and has no regrets. Super Stable 3D FTW!!! 3DS finally got the Badge Arcade and it couldnt be more awesome! seriously. GD that little pink rabbit MH4U and Zelda MM happened, need i say more. and i never in a million years expected to play Xenoblade on a handheld: godsend! personally i heartily enjoyed the E3 presentation and the muppets really struck an emotional chord with me. you could tell they were 'smaller' games that they previewed but given who they're coming from it didn't make them seem any less compelling. i was stoked and the muppets were EVERYTHING! boarded no hate-train about Metroid FF and think it has potential to be Ninty's RocketLeague. We lost Iwata a true groundbreaker and visionary. it was a heartbreaking and unexpected moment as we all felt like we 'knew' him ;( all in all 2015 wasn't as bad as the haters wanted it to be. the VC still leaves things to be desired but some good games finally came out for it. Thanks again Nintendo for producing unforgettable timeless/ageless experiences. The idea that DQ 7, 8, 11, a new 'trio' of FE games, Pokemon, Zelda and Starfox are all coming next year is future comfort guaranteed. and who the f*#@ evn knows what the NX is or what it will usher in. that's all i got off da top o my head.
the stable 3D is the worth the upgrade imho. that and Xenoblade. never realized how bad the ghosting was on the OG until i got a new3DS. now give us the rest of operation rainfall on the new 3DS, i'd love to play pandora's tower on the go
poor Wii U VC, getting schooled ;(
i have felt the Wii U version of Mario Golf 64 is also horribly displayed
(even worse than the Wii VC version) and continue to play the Wii VC vers due to the disparity. heres hoping NX can emulate like a MF-er.
but its not worst case, the game does still exist on VC(just the shadow version
Splatoon, Mario Maker, MK8 DLC, Kirby RC, Yoshi WW, Fatal Frame, XCX
Yokai, Chibi, Stella Glow, AC HHD, Pokemon SMD
and honestly can you evr REALLY beat Hyrule Warriors??
they released the reality-based-game that was amiibo hunt:)
a new hardware iteration saw its release in the new 3DS
...and Iwata's passing:(
2015 was pivotal year imho.
not ideal, yet still productive. they released a HIGHLY successful new IP, dealt with the passing of their president, and mostly met the amiibo demand.
recently they've 'reestablished' a connection with their Direct and announced several GREAT titles to come (DQ VII is everything!)
the mystery that is NX still intrigues with possibility.
as a fan im super EXCITE! and i still have a godamned backlog so how can i truly complain?
it seems people are missing the heavy hitters and i cant say i completely disagree, but its not like its a drought up in here!!
(didnt evn mention the numerous more-than-playable Nindies)
it can only get better, right?
you cant separate the wii u from its gamepad, dont we know this by now? stop pretending that was ever a feasible option, esp. given the platform design. the wii u IS the gamepad. ugh
it was when they said DQ VII for 3DS! it was everything!!
DQ VIII icing on the cake. Yokai is here and TP is finally using buttons again coming full-circle to its original design minus the waggle.
Star Fox keeps looking more dynamic thanks to the help of Platinum surely.
and amiibo are taking over the world but its a cute, beautiful siege.
Missing Iwata but great to see reverence paid by Reggie; the Trinnen donut skit:DD
It was a very game-focused direct and the Nintendo tone was still present, humorous and child-like weird.
Theres no reason to be disappointed imho as theyr really truly delivering on most fronts - unique games (barring the desire for PS4ONE games) certain ones with gamer-centric SE like the FE fates package or TP wolf amiibo/soundtrack.
Given theres Stella Glow, XCX and im still conquering all that is Woolly World and Persona Q... and then #FExSMT!!!
theres really no end in site, good to see Ninty back in the game. not dissapointed but reassured of their direction. hip hip! hooray!
still dont understand a gamer who doesnt own a wii u. i always recommend them to people and this xmas is no different. theres no way it isnt a value, especially that Splatoon MK8 bundle. GAME ON
