Oh! Yeah, that scene was wild. I thought they were talking about the famous ”BBQ scene“, in which Sephiroth gulps down a whole chicken wing and starts choking on the bones. Aerith has to use all her powers, and do the Heimlich, in order to save him. It’s really awkward what with him being the villain and all. I guess it shows that there are truly good people out there who will put aside their differences to save another. Very powerful scene! Whoops! Spoilers!
“Blimey! Colour me surprised, guv’nor. The Yanks have almost got a majority! Come quick, Mary Poppins, and bring that freezer with you. Drag it along the pavement if need be as we’ll need something to keep our chips frozen while we drink room-temperature beer!”
Yeah I’m definitely not there yet either. I’ve been opening free packs and doing Wonder Picks. I haven’t spent any cash. I’ve got Articuno EX and that’s about it. I feel that every battle is waiting for Articuno to show up trying to get it online asap. I wish I had cards with interesting moves that did something other than damage, or trainer cards that made for interesting plays.
This is how I felt about it. I really liked the atmosphere and the characters, and I enjoyed the early exploration, but it soon became boring and repetitive for me. I would love to see them flesh out the exploration and survival aspects of it. Just enough to make every dive feel like a thrilling miniature adventure.
Re a sequel, perhaps I’m hoping for a more ”Dave the Survivor” vibe, as @kfflscnt mentioned. 😂
I wouldn’t rely on this game for a Latin lesson. The death screen should read mors, assuming that they want it to say “death” (even in debased Church Latin). Mortis is the genitive/possessive case and means “of death”. I don’t think it really makes sense to use it on its own like that, unless I’ve missed something!
You would expect it as part of a phrase, such as rigor mortis.
The first one is janky but very atmospheric. The other two are more polished but they don’t live up to the atmosphere of the first.
I think they are best on computer. A modest setup (by modern standards) could run them and you’d get access to all of the wonderful mods. Still, I’m very tempted to get this, even if it’s just to support the devs.
“They also have every right to use language like that on their own site to create engagement by manipulating people sympathetic to piracy to post (which is likely what is happening here).”
What makes you think that this is most likely what the writer is doing? Why is it not more likely that they are being ironic, or even sincerely sad for someone about to potentially get a Gary Bowser treatment (justified, but life-ruining)?
Edit: I didn’t mean that to seem confrontational at all. I really am just curious.
I actually don’t know what to play. I started Echoes, but after two dungeons I’m not feeling it. I’m not sure whether that’s the game or just how I am right now. Maybe I’ll revisit Trails in the Sky. It gets some flack for being generic in some respects, but I think the characters and world are actually top-notch despite initially seeming very typical.
“Listen to me, Lancelot. You can’t go to battle dressed like that. A chainmail mankini and a bow tie won’t protect you. Also, you’ll look a fool in court and embarrass us all. It’s unbecoming of a knight!”
“What about if I wear these tan briefs underneath, Gawain? You know, it gives the same look but I won’t flash the King every time I bend over to pick up my morningstar.”
Maybe whatever they come up with will be riddled with micro transactions and also feature a shop which lets you buy NFTs of Tony’s vital statistics.
“I own Tony’s inside leg measurements!”
“Yeah? Well, I’ve got his lung capacity.”
“Wow!”
I reckon we’ve still got a few train-wreck business decisions left before NFTs are left out of games forevermore. Somebody start banging on the hype drum again like it’s 2021!
Edit: forget about the actual skating, this is Tony Hawk’s Pro Trader. Buy HawkCoin and spend it on watching computer-controlled, crappy 3D models perform tricks. Or, collect Tony NFTs (purchaseable with real money only) and trade them with all your rad chums via the Pro Trader App (NFTs not tradeable outside of the app)!!!
I know, but it’s hard when you have quality info like I do! You see, my uncle’s uncle knows a guy who is an uncle to this other guy who just became an uncle (congrats). That uncle claims that he received a letter from his uncle which told him to come to Nintendo HQ for an uncle pageant (like one of those dog shows), where people can put forward their favourite uncle and hopefully win a prize. The prize was a collection of images (on a USB) which allegedly show a Switch 2. I guess someone’s uncle won it and decided to leak it. Wild!
I like the idea of some more traditionally-inspired dungeons in a future mainline Zelda. Perhaps they could be like that island in BotW where your equipment is taken from you, but you retain some of your abilities. I did really enjoy the open world of TotK, but would love some (possibly optional) classic “challenge” dungeons as mentioned above.
@tblalande
I agree re Elden Ring. I thinks it’s the worst From game (but still very good!). From excel at small, dense worlds full of shortcuts and detail. ER feels bloated and the lore feels like it was crowdsourced from Tumblr and Reddit: lots of good ideas from different people but awkwardly patched together.
There should be a “trial by virtual combat” option for these sorts legal cases. Smash Melee: Final Destination, 1 Stock, No Items. If someone picks Bowser and wins, they also get a fat bonus as he is just awful (but I still love playing as him).
Perhaps on Sunday I will have time for a little Xenoblade Chronicles DE. I’ve been in a rut since finishing TTYD and have yet to play any of the Xenoblades!
I love this feature and I love reading through the comments for it each week. For me, it marks the proper start of the weekend.
An array of strings of NES titles to select from for your profile. A “huge feat”.
I want to buy NES World Championships, as I love the NES, but it’s just nowhere near as feature-rich as it should be. What’s the cure for being a miserable, old git? 😂
Emio is like that problematic cousin you’ve never met but have heard so much about.
“If you don’t wear a hat to school you’ll turn out like Emio!”
“Emio made that face once and then the wind changed, and now he has to wear a paper bag!”
“Emio used to be a good boy like you, but then he started wearing a trench coat and waiting around in rooms with the lights off. This is why your father and I bought you a waterproof jacket instead!”
I’ll never forget that Summer spent by the lake with Emio. With great fondness do I recall the long walks, the fishing trips, and the evenings spent sipping wine in that hilariously dingy cabin by the shore. This was back when Emio was young and dynamic; they had ambition and drive. It was before Emio changed and became the Emio we know today. It was before Emio gave up being Emio and started down that dark path towards being Emio. Only Emio knows what happened to Emio, and by the gods does Emio relish that! “Emio is as Emio does” they say. You know what I say in response? “Emio!”
When I was younger, “KidZania” consisted of sitting at home and trying to make “gadgets” out of junk we found in the street. No, that didn’t propel me into a career as an inventor. It did, however, give me an awareness of tetanus.
Everyone, put away your wishlists. Nintendo will be taking this off piste and glossing over all their beloved IPs in favour of what the Switch eShop really needs:
Poorly made simulator games
Dubious hentai puzzlers
Alarm clock apps
Minecraft clones
General eTat

Chief: “It’s a goddamn, gen-u-ine, 1999 Venusaur card!”
This feature and the ensuing comments section is the highlight of my Nintendo Life week. Love reading through it all!
The TotK play through is proving to be thoroughly enjoyable. My first foray into the depths lasted for days as it took me ages to find the pillar which allows you to Ascend out (no fast travelling!). In the end, things became desperate, as Link was all out of food, bright bloom seeds, and decent weaponry. Poor lad was stumbling around in the dark and desperately seeking sanctuary. The whole experience was quite survival horror. It was great!
After spending hours stuck in an indecision-loop during character creation, I put away Dark Souls and started a fresh play through of TotK. I have played through Dark Souls many times, yet I always have this problem. I become obsessed with how my character will look, even though it doesn’t matter in the slightest! I have this problem with every game which features character creation, so it’s relaxing to sometimes play games in which the protagonist is predefined (good old Link).
I’m now into a “no fast travel” play through of TotK. I managed to once more ascend to the Room of Awakening, this time in a more straightforward manner. There is one of those chunky, floating platforms nearby. Simply attach fans to to it and off you (slowly) go! It’s so obvious; why didn’t I think of it last time?! 😅
Nothing overly long comes to mind as I haven’t really subjected myself to anything new and lengthy in a while. However, here are a few games which I find to be of a satisfying length.
Super Mario Bros.
I still come back to it every so often as it’s just a blast to play through, even after hundreds of runs. Simple and still controls well to this day!
Dark Souls
Seems epic and tough when you first start out, doubly so if you go in unspoiled. However, once you’ve beaten it and have kept coming back for more, it can be a very short ride if you want it to be. So much of it is skippable and the bosses become deadlier when you’re underlevelled. Sometimes I just boot it up and walk around Firelink, sighing to myself. Yes, I’m a huge fan. I’m sorry!
@larryisaman
Cave Story! For me, it’s the perfect length, absolutely charming throughout, and epitomises true indie game development: one person undertaking a labour of love.
For me, it would be towards the end of the tutorial/first sky island. I had promised myself that I wouldn’t ever fast travel.
There comes a point during the tutorial when you are expected to fast travel back to an earlier location, which is floating high above you. Instead of doing that, I spent over an hour trying to balance on a ‘platform’ made of Zonai fans in a bid to ascend. I managed to do it, but only just, and ended up having to jump off the platform mid flight and climb up from the bottom of the mini island. Felt so good to achieve it!
I later gave up the “no fast travel” restriction as I falsely believed that it was necessary to do so to return above ground. Now I know otherwise, I will start it all over again! No fast travelling!
Paper Mario is done and dusted and I’ve obtained a court order against myself which prohibits me from playing more Balatro. My backlog is overwhelmingly huge and I’m not sure what to choose or how to fill the time until TTYD drops. Perhaps another run through Dark Souls, this time on Switch!
@Freek
I played through it a while back and loved every minute of it.
