Re: 'The Duskbloods' Could Be FromSoftware's Most Ambitious Game Yet, According To Leak

amongtheworms

I really enjoyed Elden Ring and Nightreign but I would love a return to the old formula as per Dark Souls 1, Bloodborne, and Sekiro- a smaller, denser, interconnected world, with more of a focus on core mechanics over endless (baroque, even) combat options. I also enjoyed the PvP, with the constant threat of invasion (but only if you had restored your humanity). Would be wonderful to see them return to this style.

Anyway, I say all this but Duskbloods will probably be the game which causes me to finally get a Switch 2. I reckon it’ll still be a grand old time!

What’s the one thing people would want to do after a devastating nuclear war? Fight each other, hand-to-hand!

“There’s no potable water; the land is barren; the grid is down; society has collapsed. Eugh…that makes me so, so angry!”

“Stop! We don’t need to fight! Though resources are ultimately scarce, there’s so few of us left that we can easily share.”

“Thems fightin words!”

Re: Opinion: Ogre Battle 64: Person Of Lordly Caliber's Revolutionary Heart Still Burns Brightly

amongtheworms

There have been a few remakes of Tactics Ogre. Each of them brings something new and is a good game in its own right but none of them capture the magic of the original. I feel that the situation would be the same should someone try to remake March of the Black Queen or Person of Lordly Calibre. Instead, I think they should make sure that all of the originals are available on modern platforms and then focus on a new entry…a F2P arena shooter with loot boxes and season passes!!!!!1111(/s)

I used to play it almost every day after school. There was a "club" for kids who had to wait to be picked up by their (single, working) parent. The best part of this was the NES and a whole box of games, donated by someone’s brother when he went off to university. Battletoads was in that box too…the Waterloo to my Napoleon.

@The_Nintendo_Pedant

This is how I feel about SMB too. Such tight design and still a joy to play. Good platformers just don’t age, imo.

@Keman

Is he actually causing any harm though? All he does is repeatedly post pro PS5 comments and express his dislike of the Switch 2. He’s not spewing hatred against any marginalised groups or using this place as a soapbox for some extremist political viewpoint. He’s not even trying to get at anyone really.

I like all the regular commenters on here, including him, even if what they say might be sometimes irksome. It’s a very colourful place! It’s like some slightly off-kilter Animal Crossing 😂❤️

Very excited for all those that are getting one this week. Fire up some 4K, 60fps BotW and cook up an apple for me!

@The_Nintend_Pedant

I still laugh every time I see your new name. Also the circumstances around why you changed it. So, so good! 😂

Bloodborne and DS1 4 eva <3

Still, enjoyed Elden Ring and I’m now enjoying the DLC on PS5. I’m not enjoying the lore in Ring as much as the Soulsborne games. There’s a lot of it, and it has some very cool parts to it, but it doesn’t fill me with the same sense of wonder. I’m also not entirely sold on the more open environment, but I also think it was done well. Very excited to see what their next main entry will be, though also hyped for Duskbloods!

Typing out the above actually makes me want to double dip and get Ring on Switch 2…

Re: Opinion: Steam Deck Fans Are Seriously Underestimating The Switch 2

amongtheworms

I actually prefer to sit at a desk to play PC games, like I’m plugging into the mainframe to perform a dangerous task in some dystopian cyberpunk future. I’ll always have a desktop!

I preordered a Switch 2 and it will be my only console going forward. I have great love for all of Nintendo’s IP. I feel let down by PS5 and only keep it around to play FROM games. Haven’t had an Xbox since 360 and I don’t feel that I’ve missed anything.

Re: Opinion: In A Post BOTW And Elden Ring World, Xenoblade Chronicles X Is Still Daunting

amongtheworms

For me, Morrowind still has the best open world. It’s janky by today’s standards, but the setting, the ambience, and the lore are all so well realised. Also, the mechanics were strange and obtuse, yet allowed for a lot of freedom and a real sense of power. It’s also not just another high fantasy world; not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m hoping for either a total remake (with Mr Howard not touching it), or a remaster (and available on Switch 2).

As to the ongoing BotW argument, well, I loved what they did, and it still feels magical, but I have only completed it once. Each time I replay it, I get about halfway through and then it drops off. I’m actually really looking forward to the Switch 2 upgrade as I think the boosted frame rate and resolution will help preserve the magic inherent in the design.

Office of National Statistics, with the last link being a spreadsheet showing weekly wages from 1968 to 2021. Gives some idea as to how much a given console might cost the average British worker at a given time. What with rent/mortgage, child-reading, taxes, etc, £740 a month in 1986 probably meant you’d be saving a while for a NES!

Edit: ~20% of ones monthly wages pre tax is a lot, but SMB is still an absolute banger of a game 😌

Re: Poll: So, Were You Accepted For The Nintendo Switch 2 Hands-On Event?

amongtheworms

There I was, outside the doors of Nintendo HQ.

**CRASH**

The doors flew open and out strode my uncle, looking resplendent in his red suit and tie.

“My boy, you’re going to the hands-on event! You wouldn’t believe what I had to do to get you a ticket.”

“Are you in trouble again, uncle?”

“No, no, nothing like that. Haha! Here.”

He handed me the ticket, bid me goodbye, and strode back inside. After he’d left, I looked down at what he’d given me. It had been edited with a marker pen and read, “Dear —eoff—Keigh— AMONGTHEWORMS, congratulations on securing a place at the hands-on event. We can’t wait to see you there! Love, Nintendo.”

Company that intensively processes dead animals into crappy food teams up with company which peddles a fiction involving obsessively imprisoning and collecting animals.

Anyway, I think they should both go all in and genetically engineer these creatures into existence solely for the sake of novel meat products. A “Pikachew” meal could be on the cards!
