This month marks the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, with the original PlayStation game – which eventually found its way to both the Nintendo DS and GameCube – launching back in March 1996. If you feel like celebrating, you can now get your hands on a whole new range of merchandise.
Capcom has teamed up with Numskull Designs to launch a wave of anniversary items, including a 3D moulded lamp, hats, pins, sunglasses, charging mats, and mugs.
If we had to pick, we'd say that Umbrella lamp is our pick of the bunch; it has an on/off switch and can be powered using either a USB-C cable (which comes included) or by batteries if you prefer.
You can check out the range over on Numskull's website if you're feeling like treating yourself. Let us know which goodies take your fancy with a comment below.

We need a new original resident evil made for the switch like monster hunter rise
@Jackpaza0508 yeah there is one leaked for the switch called
RE Outrage.
And because most of the the leak said is true, I think it will happen.
Obviously it will be shown after RE Village comes out
'with the original PlayStation game – which eventually found its way to both the Nintendo DS and GameCube' No it didn't, the original PS Game was never on the GameCube.
@Lordplops yeah it was only the remake
@Jackpaza0508 Rumor has it that a Resident Evil Revelations 3 will be heading to Switch soon which I'm okay with, the main series is heading downward anyways and they aren't numbering them anymore.
i can't stand RE due to how oversaturated it is, Capcom needs to chill tf out with releases lol
@NikHogan
Says the guy with the Super Mario avatar 🤡
@KillerBOB i mean, you have a point i just don't care for re is all
@Lordplops It was. They remade the first Resident Evil game for the GameCube in 2002
It’s great how well they’ve turned the series round. As much as I would still play the newer games on my laptop or PlayStation, it would be cool to see native ports on Switch. Unfortunately it looks like the cloud versions are all Switch can handle.
@TheFrenchiestFry but the 1996 version wasn't on there tho
@anoyonmus Still counts as the first game being on GameCube considering it was practically a shot for shot recreation minus gameplay improvements and QoL changes
It's also the version of the game they've brought to every subsequent platform after its original release instead of the original so it still counts as RE1
@TheFrenchiestFry the article says
"with the original PlayStation game – which eventually found its way to both the Nintendo DS and GameCube – launching back in March 1996."
The article is wrong ofc but there are changes in the remake compared to the original.
While it is the first game, it is slightly more different than the original.
The article is wrong. REWORD IT
The remakes of RE2 and RE3 and RE7 on switch please
Yeah, I know, I’m not asking much.
Resident Evil is the reason I got PlayStation. I’m right in the middle of re-playing the PS1 games on PS3. I’d be a happy man if they’d put those just as direct ports on switch. Don’t even need the remakes. Going to send links to all the coffee mugs, the bottle opener, STARS hat, and Claire’s vest/jacket pins to my wife for birthday goodies yeeeaaaaaaaaaasssss
@anoyonmus It's literally still the first game on GameCube. It doesn't matter if it was remade or remastered or anything. They used the first game as a foundation and basically just recreated it from scratch while retaining pretty much everything from the original game
It's still Resident Evil 1, just like how Resident Evil 2 Remake is still based on Resident Evil 2, or how Crash N. Sane Trilogy are still Crash 1-3 remade. It literally doesn't matter. Resident Evil 1 remade is still Resident Evil 1
@Lordplops N64 baby
@anoyonmus you are being a little overly picky there as nothing in the article is in accurate.
I would rather have a new Merc
RE is probably my favourite series of all time, well, maybe second only to Zelda. I remember way back in 1998 watching my friend play through the first two, I had never seen a game that looked so gritty and real. And then the gamecube remake came out, and the haunting, decrepit visuals completely blew my mind. I'm a visual artist by trade, and I attribute my love of exploring and painting abandoned buildings, to the exquisitely detailed pre-rendered backgrounds of the early RE games.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi You know Resident Evil Village is RE 8 right?
Its still numbered technically its even in the name of the game and they show it clearly in the logo.
@TheFrenchiestFry It was not really shot for shot. The remake had alot of extras areas not in the original.
The original PlayStation game is NOT available on the GameCube. There is a 'version' of Resident Evil, but saying it's the PlayStation version is like saying Resident Evil 3 on PS4 is the same as Resident Evil 3 on PS1. They are not, and never will be, the same version, and that's where this article is wrong.
@Lordplops : Indeed. The "original" Resident Evil game on Switch is a port of the 2002 GameCube remake (or a port of one of the HD versions thereof).
The Nintendo DS version, however, was a port of the PS1 original, albeit with the filmed segments censored for whatever reason (they even censored Chris smoking in the credits). Odd that I see illicit drug-taking in games more often than I see characters consuming LEGAL tobacco.
I grabbed a STARS badge and UBCS cap and mug. Great quality merch and highly recommended.
