@PolarExperience Apple isn't the only guilty party here. A lot of the major companies that make phones put out a revision each year. All because of the competition for market share.
@Likethepear Oof, you went into Online? You have guts, I wouldn't have even touched that mode if I was brand new to the game. I applaud your courage! Yeah, for right now, just work on the basics in Smash mode, and then you can branch out into Classic and Adventure when you feel you have a grasp on things.
@DABYX It took me a moment to understand what this meant, but basically what is being said is that releasing revisions to consoles is a strategy used by Nintendo and other companies, but right now Nintendo is focusing on the Switch as it is.
@Likethepear Don't sweat it too hard, we all began this way. There has never been a "tutorial" outside of the How to Play video in each game. You can find it in the vault under the Videos section or just wait on the title screen and it'll play. It will be a lot to soak in, but it'll click eventually. Just play against one CPU on the easiest difficulty and pick a simple stage to play on. You'll understand it in time.
He didn’t even answer the question. I would’ve taken a “We have no plans for releasing a new model of Nintendo Switch currently” over what was said here.
Not a big deal...did they forget how hard it was to unlock everything in previous games? Don’t even get me started on Melee: if you wanted all the unlocks, you had to WORK for it. Clearing all the event matches to get Final Destination? Just the thought of it should make everyone a smidge more grateful that Ultimate comes with all stages already unlocked.
Had the opportunity to play this at E3 this year and it was definitely a blast. In essence, you blow up bubble gum that you can either transform into a bat or you can shoot the gum at another player and try to get them stuck, so you can whack them. It’s a beat em up, but it’s score based, so you can pick up tokens on the ground or destroy drones for bonus points. You can charge your weapon to instantly KO someone, but it leaves you wide open, and there are special attacks as well that you can utilize. At the end of the game, the points are tallied up and bonuses are awarded for being the player that dealt the most 1-Hit KOs and for destroying the most drones. It’s pretty unique, honestly.
I'm pretty sure I already have this one scanned in my game thanks to the power of the internet. I'm going to go check real quick.
EDIT: Oh, hmm, I guess I didn't. Well, it's there now. I know I've seen this before, but...maybe it was from the data mined from the game? Not sure....
@Frenean If the games were playable on Treehouse, they were far enough along to have a demo on the show floor, as long as it was in English, of course. The fact that Super Mario Party was not present was a surprise.
@Varkster While Nintendo showed off several games in its presentation and Treehouse, only three games made by Nintendo (and its close partners) were actually playable on the show floor. Smash was the main focus, Let's Go Pikachu / Eevee and Mario Tennis Aces (which came out the following week) were also shown. There was an entire section dedicated to indies, but the selection Nintendo had to offer was utterly lacking.
Needless to say, it was pretty disappointing to have to watch the Treehouse videos just to get information about the games they showed off when it could've been on the show floor as well.
@TuxDC Well, I don't know all the answers to your questions, but I do know that your data is backed up to the cloud pretty quickly after running a couple of quick tests. You can also download your save data to another console. Not sure how automatic the process is, but you can force the download by going to the Save Data Cloud Backup settings on the Options screen for each respective game.
So...I suppose this system could be circumvented by not connecting the primary console to the internet if you don't want to interrupt the other console's game. Hmm....
Things like this are just like the continue trick in Super Mario Bros.: quite a few people do know about it, but it resurfaces as news from time to time and a substantially large amount of people are surprised by it.
Good ol' Nintendo, confirming news we already knew about their own service because all the other companies decided to tell everyone at a more reasonable time.
A little disappointed considering I needed a little good news after this week, but I’ll deal with it. Thoughts and prayers to all those affected in Japan.
@OctoInk20 I played a good chunk of matches and, although I was Team Squid, I saw nothing of the sort on the other team. Every match more or less played out like it should have.
Bear in mind that what you saw is just a drop in the water compared to all the matches that played out during the Splatfest. To say that Team Squid didn't win legitimately, or that 90% of Team Squid sabotaged the other team is simply asinine.
Never mind the fact that Team Squid won both the solo and team categories, while Team Octo only had to take one of those two in order to win. So, are you saying that multitudes of four player groups got together, voted for Team Octo, and threw all their matches as well? Would a substantial number of people even bother doing that? You know the answer just as well as I do.
Not gonna lie, I did a little dance when I saw the results when I loaded the game up. I've been on winning Splatfest teams before, but something about winning the special ones just makes it that much more sweeter.
@Cobalt Be glad the screen is split for local multiplayer. That way, the camera is always behind you. Have you ever played Mario Tennis with no split screen? It sucks. It's awful when the camera isn't directly behind you.
@Executer66 Nintendo does not care about version numbers. I remember the 3DS having an update where they bumped the number up from 8 to 9, or something like that, and it was just a "stability" update and nothing else.
If anything at all, the last set of numbers indicate what number version this is. In this case, the number is 40, which means this is the 40th software version for the 3DS since release.
I was able to try this game as well at E3. The gameplay was surprisingly interesting: instead of each unit moving once and attacking, you spend CP to move one unit a set amount of distance, in which you can attack at any point and move again afterwards, as long as you have movement left. You can also use CP on the same units over and over on the same turn, but you get movement penalties when you do this. Definitely will be keeping a close eye on this one.
The stage was surprisingly long, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Controls were tight, and it played beautifully. Looking forward to picking it up in October.
@Nassov Wii Music was a decade ago. If that's your best example, that's pretty weak.
They've been using the same styled logo since Brawl. Font doesn't mean anything.
The style of the trailer doesn't mean anything.
It'll be four years after Smash 4 comes out when this comes out. The timing lines up, especially since they're developing one game this time instead of two.
Sakurai always complains about being tired of developing games, but he always gets drawn back in.
Bear in mind, I said "more than just a port". I did not say "brand new game".
I think it's fair to say that because Nintendo is going all in on Smash Bros. this year and making it the spotlight game, this is more than just a port.
@Grumblevolcano I guess...? I suppose I can't rule it out, other then to say that the number of people who actually did this before is substantially small. Keep in mind that a lot of people there are members of the media, so they can't do that. Also, Nintendo (and several other companies) offers collectables for most of its games, and that's what incentivizes people to try everything.
You only get one reservation for the whole show, unfortunately. I was planning on playing Smash twice, but so it goes.
@Grumblevolcano That's a legitimate option, but they do have Nintendo reps watch the end of the line for each booth and they cap it and stop letting people line up for it if it gets too long.
Here's an interesting tidbit I found on Nintendo's FAQ:
Can I register for more than one ticket? Guests can only secure up to one ticket for the entire show to play either "For Fun" OR "For Glory."
What are the different ticket types? There are two ticket types that allow you to play the Super Smash Bros. game: "For Fun": Play casually against other people "For Glory": Test your skills and see how you stack up against other competitive players. Winners advance to play in up to three rounds, after which an overall winner is declared.
Hmmm...this could mean a lot of things. Last year, Nintendo did not have a reservation system in place for any games. However, the spotlight game, Super Mario Odyssey, only had a wait time of about 45 minutes to an hour on the second and third days. They had 60 demo kiosks for it, and you got 10 minutes to play. With that in mind, either...
1) They expect Smash Bros. to be wildly popular to warrant the reservation system, which is honestly doubtful compared to other possibilities. The spotlight game is always popular.
2) They want to give more time for people to play the game by limiting it to a one per person reservation system.
3) There won't be enough room to have all the demo kiosks needed normally because they will have more games to showcase, or want to have more kiosks dedicated to other games.
Also, apparently they made up my mind about bringing my Switch to the show. I was only planning on bringing my 3DS (especially since I randomly got a goodie bag from a Nintendo rep because of it), but now I guess I have to bring my Switch.
If you already own the Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition game will be able to download this definitive version free of charge so you can easily upgrade and enjoy all the added features.
If it works like the same way as it does on Xbox One, this will not be an update to the current game, but rather, a brand new game that you'll need to go to the eShop to download (for free, of course, if you already own it). So, you'll have two versions of Minecraft on your console: the Nintendo Switch Edition and the Bedrock Edition.
@Anti-Matter In the original, you had to find a Toad in order to save. They aren't that hard to find, but it definitely isn't a simple "Save and Quit" any time you want. They'll probably keep that system in place for the remake.
Hori’s new D-pad enabled version of Joy-Con L is scheduled for release in July – although apparently, it won’t include an accelerometer or gyroscope.…
I know in Splatoon 2, the motion controls are dictated exclusively by the right Joy-Con, so this was probably a cost cutting measure because they think it simply isn't needed. Good luck playing Super Mario Odyssey with those, though.
We assume that means Yooka-Laylee...will be getting DLC content of some description.
The final stretch goal for the Kickstarter was free DLC for all backers (and will probably be paid for everyone else), so they weren't done with the game when it released.
