Re: Soapbox: Can We Please Retire The Phrase 'Lazy Devs' Already?

Xellen

Regarding BD/SP and GameFreak as a company;

Lazy devs? Not so much. Incompetent devs? Very much so.

I genuinely cannot believe the state BD/SP is releasing in honestly. The game looks polished to a degree sure, but seeing all the leaked gameplay when in battles and it just looks…half-baked.

GameFreak themselves are so out of touch with their fanbase and target audience these days it’s unreal.

“B-But Pokemon is a kids game! It always has been!”

Maybe a decade ago it was seen solely as such. But casual people don't seem to understand that the majority of the player base for Pokemon games are those that have grown up with the franchise.

That’s not to say kids aren’t the target as well, but it’s clear that the older players are second-fiddle.

This is a multi-billion dollar company. The #1 highest-grossing media franchise in the entire world and lately they’ve done nothing but produced half-baked games that just aren’t up to standard. That is the cold truth.

GameFreak’s motto should honestly be “Doing the bare minimum” or “One step forward, 5 steps back” because god damn.

Legends Arceus is honestly the only sliver of hope and even then that is dwindling. If that doesn’t live up to expectations then Gen 8 as a whole is a write-off.

@BrazillianCara
“Grinding levels for one pokémon at a time was far from being one of the most engaging things about the games, at least for me.”

“but I don't really get being that upset with the Exp. Share.”

You kinda answered yourself on why you don’t get the reason people are upset about it.

Many people enjoyed spending the time training up Pokemon individually. People prefer it as much as it may seem dull and tedious.

That’s how we did it for 14 years of mainline Pokemon games. Would of been nice to have the option to continue doing it that way.

Re: GTA Trilogy's Physical Edition On Switch Appears To Require A Download

Xellen

Did everyone forget about Monster Hunter Stories 2?

Everyone was up in arms about it requiring a download, then it turned out the US rated release needed a partial-download wheras the EU/UK rated version was entirely on the cartridge.

While there’s no confirmation this is the same situation, it’s at least smart to wait and see what the deal is with the GTA Trilogy.

Re: Review: Gang Beasts - An Adorably Janky Brawler Arrives Late To The Switch Party

@JasmineDragon

It did, but even so it still took over 9 months to release on Switch after the console launched on March 3rd.

Granted, developing and porting takes time of course, and while it’s fair to say Human Fall Flat has had the longest amount of time out of all of them on the platform, I still feel it would of helped to have some of these as launch titles or at least closer to the Switch’s release.

Re: Exp. Share Can't Be Turned Off In The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

Xellen

I was 100% on board with BDSP from the start, but EXP Share always being on is a massive deal-breaker for me.

It’s not that EXP Share is bad, but the lack of an option to toggle it off is. XY, ORAS and S/M all managed to do this, so why on earth this stopped being a thing since the Let’s Go games has been a real annoyance.

I see people telling those complaining about the EXP Share being always on that this is a common staple for RPG’s these days. But so is auto-save?? And yet ILCA have made that optional.

It doesn’t hurt to give the players more options to let them play how they prefer to.

Honestly, I’m just disappointed.

Disclaimer: Copied my comment from the other article as this focuses on my specific gripe.

Re: Mario Kart Tour Launches Event To Celebrate Its 2nd Anniversary

Xellen

@AlexanderDaniels
Yeah…no

There are a total of 14 different Mario Kart games, and yet only a handful are seemingly counted in the total for a numerical addition to the series.

Six on home consoles, three on handheld consoles, four arcade games co-developed with Namco, and one for mobile phones.

Mario Kart Tour is not MK9 and never will be.

Re: Pokémon Trading Card Game Online "Sunset FAQ" Explains Shut Down Process

Xellen

The fact that not everything from the old game is transferable has already p*ssed off a multitude of players.

It’s meant that all the booster packs they’ve been hoarding that held value now have to be opened in order for compatible cards to be transferred.

Any unopened packs etc will be converted into crystals in the new game and essentially it’s not a fair trade-off.

Shame.

Re: Pokémon Unite Producer Thanks Fans For Feedback And Details Upcoming Patch

Xellen

@VoidofLight
That’s like saying I won’t play Diablo III anymore because Blizzard are the developers.

Yes the company behind the game is scummy for what they’ve done, but when I’m playing the game the main thing I’m focused on is playing the game and having fun. Isn’t that what video games are created for to begin with..?

Re: Now, This Is What Next-Gen Pokémon Should Look Like

Xellen

@Kilamanjaro
Pokemon has never been about graphics. It never claimed or opted to be about graphics.

It’s only become such a popular point of discussion because of SWSH.

I guarantee that if the dexcut never happened, there would've been far less people complaining about how bad it looked.

Re: 'Pokémon Presents' Live Presentation Announced For Wednesday, 18th August

Xellen

Confirmation of Mega Evolutions returning as well as Platinum content would make me super hyped for BDSP. The latter already has some hints from previous trailers, but time will tell (fingers crossed)

As for Arceus Legends, I’m excited to find out about any changes to the battle system as well as if the overworld is just as barren as it looked. Hopefully the storyline is solid.

Looking forward to the 18th!

Re: Pokémon Unite Is Getting A Game Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Xellen

@BreathingMiit
It never was pay-to-win to begin with.

Absolutely nothing in the game stops you from being just as good as someone who drops money on it.

Hold items can be upgraded without any use of paid currency at all. There are players out there already who are f2p and have lv20 hold items. All upgrading with paid currency does is save impatient people wasting their time and effort.

Not to mention the battle-pass is entirely an optional purchase that just grants clothing items and coins/tickets.

People complaining that it’s pay-to-win clearly haven’t done enough research.

Re: Pokémon Unite Is Getting A Game Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

@Old-Red
I love it when people clearly have no clue about what they’re talking about. It’s honestly laughable.

You’re acting like this is the first game of it’s kind to get the spotlight and it’s outright bad just because you don’t agree with the practices in place.

Heaven forbid you look at the appstore on smartphones and see all the micro-transactions in the games there.

@MajinSoul
Amen.

Re: Pokémon Unite Is Adding A New Monster Tomorrow

Xellen

@ThatNyteDaez
Gengar is far from broken honestly.

Besides, it’s unanimously decided upon that both Zeraora and Pikachu are the most broken units in the game right now.

@Aronin
Just Pikachu. Although if and when Eevee get’s added, it’ll have it’s anime voice as well.
