Lazy devs? Not so much. Incompetent devs? Very much so.
I genuinely cannot believe the state BD/SP is releasing in honestly. The game looks polished to a degree sure, but seeing all the leaked gameplay when in battles and it just looks…half-baked.
GameFreak themselves are so out of touch with their fanbase and target audience these days it’s unreal.
“B-But Pokemon is a kids game! It always has been!”
Maybe a decade ago it was seen solely as such. But casual people don't seem to understand that the majority of the player base for Pokemon games are those that have grown up with the franchise.
That’s not to say kids aren’t the target as well, but it’s clear that the older players are second-fiddle.
This is a multi-billion dollar company. The #1 highest-grossing media franchise in the entire world and lately they’ve done nothing but produced half-baked games that just aren’t up to standard. That is the cold truth.
GameFreak’s motto should honestly be “Doing the bare minimum” or “One step forward, 5 steps back” because god damn.
Legends Arceus is honestly the only sliver of hope and even then that is dwindling. If that doesn’t live up to expectations then Gen 8 as a whole is a write-off.
Did everyone forget about Monster Hunter Stories 2?
Everyone was up in arms about it requiring a download, then it turned out the US rated release needed a partial-download wheras the EU/UK rated version was entirely on the cartridge.
While there’s no confirmation this is the same situation, it’s at least smart to wait and see what the deal is with the GTA Trilogy.
It did, but even so it still took over 9 months to release on Switch after the console launched on March 3rd.
Granted, developing and porting takes time of course, and while it’s fair to say Human Fall Flat has had the longest amount of time out of all of them on the platform, I still feel it would of helped to have some of these as launch titles or at least closer to the Switch’s release.
I was 100% on board with BDSP from the start, but EXP Share always being on is a massive deal-breaker for me.
It’s not that EXP Share is bad, but the lack of an option to toggle it off is. XY, ORAS and S/M all managed to do this, so why on earth this stopped being a thing since the Let’s Go games has been a real annoyance.
I see people telling those complaining about the EXP Share being always on that this is a common staple for RPG’s these days. But so is auto-save?? And yet ILCA have made that optional.
It doesn’t hurt to give the players more options to let them play how they prefer to.
Honestly, I’m just disappointed.
Disclaimer: Copied my comment from the other article as this focuses on my specific gripe.
Games like Gang Beasts, Human Fall Flat and Stick Fight: The Game all came exceptionally late to the Switch’s library and thus, don’t have a wide playerbase.
If these were around in the first year or two of the Switch’s life-cycle then it would of been a different story.

@VoidofLight That’s like saying I won’t play Diablo III anymore because Blizzard are the developers.
Yes the company behind the game is scummy for what they’ve done, but when I’m playing the game the main thing I’m focused on is playing the game and having fun. Isn’t that what video games are created for to begin with..?
Confirmation of Mega Evolutions returning as well as Platinum content would make me super hyped for BDSP. The latter already has some hints from previous trailers, but time will tell (fingers crossed)
As for Arceus Legends, I’m excited to find out about any changes to the battle system as well as if the overworld is just as barren as it looked. Hopefully the storyline is solid.
Kinda hilarious how a free update drops not long after everyone was bashing it in the other article about it being the 2nd best selling game in the series 🤣
@BreathingMiit
It never was pay-to-win to begin with.
Absolutely nothing in the game stops you from being just as good as someone who drops money on it.
Hold items can be upgraded without any use of paid currency at all. There are players out there already who are f2p and have lv20 hold items. All upgrading with paid currency does is save impatient people wasting their time and effort.
Not to mention the battle-pass is entirely an optional purchase that just grants clothing items and coins/tickets.
People complaining that it’s pay-to-win clearly haven’t done enough research.
@Old-Red
I love it when people clearly have no clue about what they’re talking about. It’s honestly laughable.
You’re acting like this is the first game of it’s kind to get the spotlight and it’s outright bad just because you don’t agree with the practices in place.
Heaven forbid you look at the appstore on smartphones and see all the micro-transactions in the games there.

Re: Doug Bowser Comments On The Battle Against Joy-Con Drift, Says Nintendo Are Making "Continuous Improvements"
The Switch is in it’s 5th year on the market and we’ve yet to see any major revision to the Joy-Cons that addresses the drift issue.
Honestly just sad.
Re: You'll Really, Really Want To Ensure Your Pokémon Diamond/Pearl Remakes Are Updated At Launch
How damn rushed do you have to be to produce a half-baked “remake” and not have the opening and ending movie on the base cartridge on top of that…?
Holy s**t.
Re: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's 'Ramanas Park' Lets You Encounter Legendary Pokémon
ORAS, SWSH and BDSP all let you catch legendary Pokemon and GameFreak still thinks it’s enough to pass off as “post-game content”
Yawn

Re: PSA: Watch Out! Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Leaks Are All Over The Internet
Good.
On this one occasion the more that’s leaked and the quicker it’s leaked, the better.
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0.0 Patch Notes - Final Major Update, Happy Home Paradise DLC And More
I like how people are potentially jumping the gun when it was said this will be the last “major” update.
Nobody said anything about it being the last update full-stop.

Re: Action RPG 'Date-Em-Up' MAGLAM LORD Hits The West Early Next Year

Elitist attitude much?

Re: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Trailer Shows Off Bad Guys, Gyms, And DLC
@BrazillianCara
“Grinding levels for one pokémon at a time was far from being one of the most engaging things about the games, at least for me.”
“but I don't really get being that upset with the Exp. Share.”
You kinda answered yourself on why you don’t get the reason people are upset about it.
Many people enjoyed spending the time training up Pokemon individually. People prefer it as much as it may seem dull and tedious.
That’s how we did it for 14 years of mainline Pokemon games. Would of been nice to have the option to continue doing it that way.
Re: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Trailer Shows Off Bad Guys, Gyms, And DLC
EXP. Share not being optional killed any hype I had left for these remakes.
If it’s present in Arceus as well, then I’ll be massively disappointed.
Re: GTA Trilogy's Physical Edition On Switch Appears To Require A Download
@Ralizah Turns out it indeed doesn’t. After checking the fiasco out again, the 15GB download required was a misprint error on the US box-art.

Re: First Impressions: For Better Or Worse, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Look Like Extremely Safe Remakes

Auto-save is on by defualt, but it has a toggle to turn it on/off.
Exp. Share does not, it’s always on.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Won't Actually Be An Open-World Game
For those disappointed, it was confirmed not fully open world from the very first trailer we got back in February.
The Pokedex confirmed it by having 5 separate areas where Pokemon can be found.

Re: Mario Kart Tour Launches Event To Celebrate Its 2nd Anniversary
@AlexanderDaniels
Yeah…no
There are a total of 14 different Mario Kart games, and yet only a handful are seemingly counted in the total for a numerical addition to the series.
Six on home consoles, three on handheld consoles, four arcade games co-developed with Namco, and one for mobile phones.
Mario Kart Tour is not MK9 and never will be.
Re: Mario Kart Tour Launches Event To Celebrate Its 2nd Anniversary
Maybe we’ll finally get Mario Kart 9 when this dies…
Re: Pokémon Trading Card Game Online "Sunset FAQ" Explains Shut Down Process
The fact that not everything from the old game is transferable has already p*ssed off a multitude of players.
It’s meant that all the booster packs they’ve been hoarding that held value now have to be opened in order for compatible cards to be transferred.
Any unopened packs etc will be converted into crystals in the new game and essentially it’s not a fair trade-off.
Shame.
Re: Pokémon Unite Producer Thanks Fans For Feedback And Details Latest Patch
@VoidofLight
I can understand to some extent being wary of Tenecent, but for me at least I could care less.
China right now is having a field day banning everything it feels is a threat and that includes gaming for people under 18 lmao
I’m not worried one bit about Tenecent.

Re: Random: This Working Replica Of Pokémon Legends: Arceus Took Two Weeks To Make
As soon as the Arceus battle started I burst out laughing with how bad it looked.
Can’t wait for NL’s review of Arceus with the sub-heading “The Dark Souls of Pokemon”
Re: Pokémon TV Is Now Available On The Switch eShop
Seeing as the anime episodes are dub only it’s a hard pass.
Ever since they showed they don’t care and started removing music and editing the show, watching it subbed is the only way to go.
Re: Now, This Is What Next-Gen Pokémon Should Look Like
@Kilamanjaro
Pokemon has never been about graphics. It never claimed or opted to be about graphics.
It’s only become such a popular point of discussion because of SWSH.
I guarantee that if the dexcut never happened, there would've been far less people complaining about how bad it looked.
Re: Now, This Is What Next-Gen Pokémon Should Look Like
This looks genuinely bad lmao
Nothing like Pokemon at all.

Re: Gallery: Feast Your Eyes On 20 New Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Screenshots

Um…yes? As I said the National Dex is confirmed.
If you really thought it would include Pokemon from Gen’s 5-8 then you were setting yourself up for disappointment.
Re: Hands On: PowerA's Spectra Controller For Switch Is A Light Show With A Catch

Came here to say this.
I get that wireless controllers give you freedom to sit and play anywhere, but a wires controller is not as bad as people are making it out to be.
Re: Gallery: Feast Your Eyes On 20 New Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Screenshots
@abdias
National Dex is confirmed to return. A screenshot showed Bidoof listed as #399 in the dex.
Granted, it probably means the national dex will only go up to gens 1-4 (1-493)

Re: Pokémon Unite Is Getting A Game Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@TechaNinja
Hex got nerfed, which is the very attack that made Gengar so broken in the first place.
Re: Pokémon Unite Is Getting A Game Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@Old-Red
What does it matter that it’s on the Switch? It’s not the first of it’s kind to be on the console either.
Sounds like to me you just have a negative bias for games such as this in general. “Predatory practices”…? Really?

Gengar, Zeraora, Eldegoss, Cinderace, Machamp and Cramorant all got nerfs in some form.

Zeraora did get nerfed. It’s Unite move does less damage now.

Re: Pokémon Unite Is Adding A New Monster Tomorrow

Gengar is far from broken honestly.
Besides, it’s unanimously decided upon that both Zeraora and Pikachu are the most broken units in the game right now.
@Aronin
Just Pikachu. Although if and when Eevee get’s added, it’ll have it’s anime voice as well.

Re: Soapbox: Indies Lead The Way But Nintendo Shows Progress Representing People Of Colour
Can’t lie, Nintendo Life has felt quite topical as of late.
Not that it’s a bad thing when the subjects are important, but I come here expecting news, trailers and gameplay about just the games.
Race representation in video games is something I won’t be divulging in, especially with all the comments I’ve just read through…
