Update: Pokémon Unite is now available to download on mobile devices.
As you might have already seen, the MOBA Pokémon Unite arrives on mobile devices today. Ahead of its release, the game's producer Masaaki Hoshino has delivered a special message on the official site - thanking players for all of their feedback so far and also revealing what to expect in the latest update.
Hoshino has also revealed how the team is working on a new mode of play to level the playing field. Here's the message in full:
Hello everyone,
Since the release of Pokémon UNITE on Nintendo Switch™, the team has enjoyed reading through all of the experiences our players have had during their adventures on Aeos Island. The topics, the details, the strategies—there’s so much even we’ve learned about our game by listening to the conversations our players have been having. Every piece of feedback has been valuable to us, whether it was constructive criticism or complimentary. We’re proud to have created an experience that has resulted in so much enthusiasm, particularly as we invite a new audience to the world of UNITE with tomorrow’s mobile launch of the game.
For both new and returning players, we’re thrilled to share some of the game updates that tomorrow also brings:
- Full cross-platform play and account linking across mobile devices and Nintendo Switch. Link an account, and play with the same account across both platforms.
- New in-game events in which you can get super item enhancers that can upgrade a held item to grade 30. We’ve also made it easier for all Trainers to get item enhancers.
- New held items to introduce fresh strategies.
- The introduction of Unite squads, allowing Trainers to team up with squadmates.
- A second battle pass, which will feature all-new cosmetic items, including new Holowear with special visual effects.
- The rollout of some limited Spectator Mode features.
- Support for multiple new languages.
We’ll continue to add more playable Pokémon and make balance adjustments to both Pokémon and the maps. Trainers can anticipate new battle passes, themed events, and other compelling content to make Pokémon UNITE even more fun and rewarding. Additionally, we’re developing a new mode of play designed to level the playing field for all Trainers, regardless of their held items’ grades.
We’re dedicated to making every Unite Battle as fun and engaging as possible, and the changes above represent some of the many ways we’re working toward that goal. We look forward to continuing to hear our players’ reception and feedback as we work with all of you toward an experience that all fans can enjoy. Thank you all for your continued support and interest in Pokémon UNITE.
See you on Aeos Island, Trainers.
Hoshino

Pokemon Unite went from not pay to win, to extra not pay to win.
This is going to be the greatest mobile game!
Here comes the Pay to win comments, It so stupid, Don't believe everything on the internet guys, Please at least form your own opinion.
Have they added Roserade yet?
I played it for the first month or so and it was definitely pay to win - not sure what the guys above are talking about. If it's changed for the better, they've already lost me.
The die hard fans will not complain about how pay to win it is. No that's certainly not the reason why, the real reason is bad teammates! Let's see what those new held items do and how quickly the whales will be able to max them out.
I could play a whole match with just lev one Items, You really don't need the higher levels, Yes I will agree, they have extra perks, But This still wont net you a game, Not even carry you.
The game is not pay to win, and never was. I haven't spent any real money, I've only leveled up one item (with free bonus currency), I use free Pokemon I got with the original download, and I still win matches on the regular.
"But it's pay to win" seems to me like a rallying cry of people who haven't played Pokenon Unite for more than 5 minutes.
@locky-mavo Not yet! No Sylveon yet, either 😞
@Snatcher
I’ll go a step further and say, that you can easily get 3 items to level 20 within a week or 2.
Specifically level 20 because after that you don’t get any other major bonuses, and can only really improve the item by about 1-2%.
This is going to be an exciting experience for me and will be one for every one.
@Aurumonado It is because people are extremely stupid. They think pay 2 win means that you cannot win unless you pay, or that you will automatically win if you pay. There are almost no games that fall into these categories.
Pay 2 win usually refers to games where paying gives you some advantage, which is very obviously the case in Unite.
I haven’t put a single cent into Unite and I got to high Veteran rank. Granted, I’ve played MOBA’s before. Can you get an advantage by paying? Sure, but by the time you climb high enough to play with other good players you’ll have the in-game currency to buy and upgrade most your held items to level 20. Paying can certainly help, but it really isn’t mandatory and hasn’t impacted my enjoyment of the game at all.
@Screen LMAO, Thats just called playing the game.
@Snatcher Eh, I can't be bothered to even get it on my switch, because I don't really agree with the company helping develop the game.
@VoidofLight
That’s like saying I won’t play Diablo III anymore because Blizzard are the developers.
Yes the company behind the game is scummy for what they’ve done, but when I’m playing the game the main thing I’m focused on is playing the game and having fun. Isn’t that what video games are created for to begin with..?
@EliteXeos I'd rather not have anything made by Tencent near my gaming devices to be honest.
@VoidofLight And thats just fine, If you don't feel safe with it then I don't see an issue with that.
@CharlieGirl Thats all i'm waiting for.
Why they nerf Wigglytuff sing 😭
@Snatcher
My friend, this is the internet, where commenting without knowing what you comment is a requirement, and speaking of video games, attacking mobile games without justified reasons is the law ...
u.u
Edit:
ah, and that video games, politics and religion should be an important part, like here, Tencent's hatred for being from China, when it is best to separate Politics from video games, but what can you expect ...
@VoidofLight
I can understand to some extent being wary of Tenecent, but for me at least I could care less.
China right now is having a field day banning everything it feels is a threat and that includes gaming for people under 18 lmao
I’m not worried one bit about Tenecent.
@SakuraHaruka Sounds right to me.
Booted the game and they gave me 3 enhancers to max 3 held items for free, I used them and they gave me back all the enhancers I prevously used to upgrade those same items
scummy paid to win?
More like your teammates suck and you don't know how to manage your finances.
@secret333 I think the important term here is unfair advantage. You can pay for item enhancers to level up your items but you can also earn them just by playing. You could easily get every single item and level up the 3 or 4 you use within couple of weeks. The only place where these items matter are in ranked play and they're only needed once you've reached high enough rank, by which point you've upgraded your items for free.
This update also made all this even more trivial. Item enhancers are now easier to get, you can earn super item enhancers (which they give you 3 to start with) that level up one item all the way to max level while returning all the previous enhancers that you may have used on that specific item and they also added an item which temporarily sets an item's level to its max for a week (you also get 3 of these).
I personally don't see any reason to spend money if you just want to upgrade your items but I can still see people paying for costumes.
I have to say tho! I am not a pokemon fan, but serious this game is a lot of fun. I play it on my phone. Its its addictive.
