Kirby and the Forgotten Land is arriving on the Switch this March, but it turns out Nintendo might have a little bit more planned for the pink puff in the near future.
According to a translation by Twitter user Dededaio (as spotted by VGC), the upcoming February 21 issue of Japanese publication Nintendo Dream could possibly reveal a new game. It's apparently unclear if it would be another Kirby title or just a "new game" in general, but considering 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of this adorable mascot - there's a chance it could be Kirby-themed.
Here's the full translation of the teaser in the current January issue of Nintendo Dream, along with a picture of the same segment featuring a picture of Kirby and friends:
"New issue will release it on Monday, February 21. In addition to detailed news about Kirby and The Forgotten Land, we've also included a new game that we didn't expect!... I have a feeling that a new title will be announced"
Nintendo Life user Maxz notes the following about the above translation:
"A somewhat crucial line omitted from the translation is “なかったらゴメンね” (sorry if it isn’t [announced]). Hopefully something will be revealed, but there appears to be no guarantee. My reading of it is that it won’t necessarily be a Kirby game. まさか!?の新作タイトル reads like “a new title in THAT [series]!?” Technically the word ‘series’ isn’t mentioned, so “a new title for THAT!?” would be more accurate, but I assume that series is implied."
Last week Nintendo teased some upcoming activities for Kirby's 30th anniversary and also told fans to "stay tuned for news regarding #Kirby30 activities" - so yeah, it's likely going to be an exciting year for the pink puff.
What would you like to see next from the Kirby series? Leave your thoughts below.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is all I need. I’ve got too many 2D platformers so not interested in that. Also don’t want a Kirby fighting or party game but a Kirby racer or RPG might be ok. I’m daydreaming now….
Didn't it happen before where Nintendo Dream "teased" a new game and it turned out to be an already announced game prior to the tease?
Though with all the February Switch delays leaving February rather empty it does feel like Nintendo may do a Direct in early February to fill the void.
An HD collection of Return to Dreamland and Epic Yarn would be nice. Perhaps it could include Rainbow Curse too, although that would probably be handheld only.
I've been thinking for awhile that they might use Wind Waker and / or Twilight Princess as easy schedule filler in the early part of the year so that could be it maybe.
If it's a Kirby thing though I'm down for it if it's a new 2D game or a port of one or more of the older ones. No interest whatsoever in Forgotten Land but would like some more 2D Kirby on the Switch.
Interesting, I wonder though if it could be the supposed new Donkey Kong game?
Mobile game. This close to a release of a big title, it smells like a mobile game to me.
Super Dedede drum dash deluxe
@gcunit Has Nintendo ever put out a mobile title and a console/handheld title around the same time in the same IP?
Kirby Game & Watch
Yeah, the Japanese writing actually says 'sorry if this doesn't happen' after the statement so this is far from a certainty.
I’m always up for more Kirby goodness.
I heard, we'll be getting ONLY Kirby games this year. Nothing else. Just Kirby all year long. 😑
Kirby already having a better celebration than both Zelda and Metroid XD. Well, at least Samus got a new main entry but nothing to celebrate her long history.
Kirby BR lets go
I said it before, but I'll say it again: an HD collection of Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, and Planet Robobot with added co-op for the latter two would be amazing.
This is the ‚casual game‘ that Nate the Hate announced in his podcast: „Nobody asks for it, and it will probably sell better than it deserves“ (or so)
@MichaelP OH good.
Kirby by Studio MDHR would be a dream (pun intended).
I like clicking a Kirby article and seeing PINK
I figured there was more in store for Kirby anyway. Usually a spinoff though a compilation of the previous games is in demand.
Just gonna wait for that direct. The hype is too much. It's hard enough being patient another month and more for Forgotten Land.
Is there any indication that the referring game is Kirby related? It would make little sense (and be very unlike Nintendo) to steal the thunder of an upcoming game with.. a similar game announcement.
Maybe a collection of Kirby Games!!!
@DomGC you’re right.
And the times he was right, it was based off of other leaker’s information
probably a mobile game
My fingers are crossed for a Kirby dating sim.
No way Nintendo will release another Kirby game this year unless it is a cheap small scale spin-off (i.e. Kirby Clash/Fighters).
Cmon Nintendo, finally reveal 1080° Snowboarding 3.
@anoyonmus
They already released one for the Wii in 2012.
Only thing I want is more Kirby Golf
I just kinda wanna see Kirby Superstar Ultimate, or even Epic Yarn 2.
Epic Yarn 2! The first is such a beautiful and peaceful experience
@Don well I hope we get another collection for Switch too
A Kirby tilt and tumble for switch would be great.
Diddy Kong Racing 2
Limited 30 day Kirby battle royal game!
All of this anniversary talk since Mario's 35th and the fact that Nintendo's major series get AAA releases in ~5 year gaps makes me think we could eventually have some kind of Nintendo zodiac: the years of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Aninal Crossing, DK, etc in succession.
Some of those are currently the same years, but they could move it to anniversaries of landmark games in the series to make the pattern fit and always have something to celebrate. They wouldn't do this officially of course because secrecy is so important in this industry.
the more the merrier - really hoping to see many more 1st party games
There’s no such thing as “too much Kirby”
I bet that the new game would be a spin-off title.
Heck I actually thought of a Kirby mobile game where it’s a puzzle RPG that’s like puzzles and dragons where you match elemental stars to attack enemy’s!
Another Kirby game I would LOVE to see is a Kirby warriors game! (Seriously Nintendo make a Kirby warriors game and you’ll be richer then you already are! Also I might get leeched in the comments for even suggesting a Kirby mobile game)
kirby game and watch
Man, oh, man, oh, man, I would LOVE the Wii games on a cart.
Magic/Rainbow Paintbrush would be hella sweet too (and maybe throw in a super-cute Kirby stylus?).
I find they Kirby is still so Kirby that when I play the newest one in the switch I have a hard time going back to snes and nes games because the switch game plays 99% the same and has Nintendo’s Pixar level graphics.
F-Zero or Kid Icarus pls
Hope there will be a good direct next month. Bring it on Nintendo!
What if it’s a Kirby edition Game and Watch with the original Gameboy titles and adventure?! That would make me so happy and a pink and gold device would look 🔥
It's one of those teases that can be absolutely anything... especially this time of a year, with a Direct "expected" soon.
I don't think it's necessarily Kirby related, but if it is, perhaps a collection of the Dreamland games? Dare I say, perhaps Game Boy will be added to NSO - Kirby had a lot of games on there after all (in fact, did any Nintendo franchise have more games on Game Boy than Kirby?!) Could we see the Wii U game receive a port...? (Yes there's some challenges with that, but it's actually a pretty great Kirby game - especially compared to Star Allies!!)
If it's not Kirby related, I mean how long is a piece of string? There's a load of games that "feel" like they could come this year... a new Donkey Kong, a new 2D Mario and a new 2D Zelda are all severely overdue I think it's fair to say - doesn't mean they're coming, but surely there's a good chance of one of them. Windwaker/Twilight Princess Wii U Ports feels like it's just a matter of time too. Star Fox is still a glaring omission from the Switch library too. Lots of possibilities.
A somewhat crucial line omitted from the translation is “なかったらゴメンね” (sorry if it isn’t [announced]).
Hopefully something will be revealed, but there appears to be no guarantee. My reading of it is that it won’t necessary be a Kirby game. まさか!?の新作タイトル reads like “a new title in THAT [series]!?” Technically the word ‘series’ isn’t mentioned, so “a new title for THAT!?” would be more accurate, but I assume that series is implied.
Still a guessing game at this point, though.
@DiamondJim Racer: Kirby Air Ride, RPG: Kirby Quest 🙃
@Greatluigi There have been plans for Dreamland Warriors for several years, but it's been put off so many times because "it's not ready". A small part of why Kirby is going full 3D now is to see how well it works with the Kirby formula, get people used to it, and debate on whether or not to make the Kirby themed Warriors game happen. I'm not saying that's THE reason, just that it's helpful for the research.
And after al the waiting……. It’s a Kirby 30 game that wil only work for a few months….. Would love to see a Kirby NES remake tho!
@Kirby_Girl It's like you made the account solely to comment on Kirby articles. All the power to you! 🙃
@Maxz Thanks for this - I've added your comment to the story.
@RyuonTechar please don’t joke about this I really want Kirby warriors. 😖
@Varkster this account is old but I do love commenting on Kirby articles. I can't lie about that.
If it’s not Kirby Rainbow Curse, I’ll stamp my puffy pink feet..
I can't believe we are finally getting Glover 2
I smell a Kirby Wii u port. Easy money for Nintendo. Perhaps "Kirby and the rainbow paintbrush"?
If this is true, we’ll probably see it in a direct in the next few weeks.
@MarioBrickLayer I knew I wasn't the only one who made that prediction!
@Leprecorn Yes... I must have it now
I don’t know why but Kirby has never clicked with me and I’ve owned them all.
Let's hope this one is a new Mario Strikers title on the Switch. The things I would do for that...
@Greatluigi It's not a joke :v
