I wonder where they got this data from because I’m surprised the PS5 wouldn’t be right up there, unless it’s due to stock shortages.
Such is the Power of Nintendo! With so many awesome games plus its lower entry price compared to other platforms, it's sure to be the masses' main pick for quite a while.
Regarding PS5's low search results, I'd say that it's the price and lack of enough exclusives at this point to make it desirable to mainstream consumers. In a few years it may be the most wanted Tech thingamabob, though.
Peoples choose hair dryer over XBOX Series X/S machine ? 😂
Like I have said the ps5 has NOTHING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, NOTHING. switch has metroid, Mario party and pokemon. You can have all the Purdy 4k graphics you want, it is quality games that sell a system.
@CactusMan
"I would rather buy a Dyson Hair Dryer and watch paint dry instead of playing Xbox."
🤣🤣🤣
@mariopartyfan68
"ps5 has NOTHING "
Um... PS5 have Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Planet Coaster, Bibi & Tina Horse Adventure, Park Beyond, Spirit of the North (enhanced edition) that i can consider. 😏
I will try to get PS5 games started from year 2022. (Games first, machine later)
Well the Switch is easier to find isn't it? And it has years of exclusives for newcomers.
...and realistically it's more popular with parents at Christmas. It's cheaper and I don't need to give up the TV all the time? Sounds like a deal.
Great news for Nintendo. Switch is still selling like hot cakes, and they actually have stock to sell (minus the Oled version) unlike Sony and Microsoft.
The chip shortage is severely hampering next gen console sales. It's benefiting Switch greatly. Only issue is for those wanting a Switch 2, it's likely put the release back of this by about 2 years...
Xbox... lol.
I'm actively having to stop myself buying more Switches.
@Anti-Matter I mean, sure, it has specs and Game Pass and the eventual Elder Scrolls VI... but at the end of the day, it still won't dry your hair.
@nhSnork
I don't even like nor even care with Game Pass from XBOX.
Also... I only play kids games.
@gcunit
I was thinking XBOX Series X/S have NO interesting games for casual gamers.
Their games library was like 99% were exactly same as PS4 / PS5.
PS5 still have some games for casual and girl audiences.
@FragRed PS5 is a myth at this point.
@Anti-Matter I've not looked closely recently, but the lack of Xbox exclusives has been notable for several years now and it's just laughable how any assessment of its market share tends to reveal fairly pitiful numbers. I've nothing against the brand and still hold faint hope a Xbox Series X will be worth owning one day, but doesn't really seem to be anytime soon for me.
PS5 and Xbox X/S needed another year or two before releasing. They have been by far the most underwhelming new console launches I've ever seen in my lifetime of gaming. Sure, there are some games on each that look fun (Ratchet & Clank/Returnal on PS5, Forza 5/Halo on Xbox X/S), but for the first year out, neither have been must buys. Top that off with the chip shortage leading to scarcity of available, and yeah, likely the worst console launch of my lifetime.
The Switch has such a solid game lineup right now, and while the tech is certainly quite outdated to the PS5/Xbox X/S specs, it's still rolling out solid titles. Metroid Dread is likely the best game released on ANY console this year, and next year Breath of the Wild 2, Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, 3-D Kirby and more show the hits are not slowing down at all.
I still don't think Switch overtakes the PS2 or DS for overall sales, but I think it will take third and finish around the 125-130 million overall lifetime sales.
Now that you can play 90% or so of the GamePass games on PC, there really is no selling point to picking up an Xbox.
I get everyone wants to be level headed, but 5 years into this console’s life and it’s still dominating the market.
Can we just finally admit that Nintendo has a a legendary system with greater appeal to gamers than their competitors?
I mean, really. We don’t argue about why the Gameboy or the DS/3DS outshined their competitors, but we’re still trying to make excuses for Sony and Microsoft. Yes, they are limited with what they can produce, but this STILL doesn’t explain Nintendo’s overwhelming success and domination.
The idea that people are buying Switch because it’s some “second best” piece of hardware that they’re just “settling for” is absolutely ludicrous.
well for this holiday season Switch is gonna have Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstar, the remakes of Diamond e Pearl and plus it exclusives released during it 5 years lifecycle so far, theres nothing that can surpass it.
@mariopartyfan68 the ps5 doesn't need games this Christmas season, it has a year of great games that you can play on it. Plus it's the most in demand bit of tech in the world right now, however many they can make they will sell.
@Gamer_Zeus 13.4 million myths at the end of September!
@kingbk how can you say they are likely the worst launches of your life time? The ps5 got to 10 million quicker than the ps4 and has a much better launch year of games. And MS have stated the series consoles are their fastest selling ever and gamepass is growing all the time?
Surely PlayStation should be up there with people still trying to get one.
Or maybe people have seen what the PS5 offers and noticed their PS4 plays most of the games they would be interested in.
Dunno why Switch is top either, nothing really that new in the past 12 months, maybe people are excited about N64 games?
Xbox losing to Dyson Hair Dryer SMH.
I would take these surveys with a grain of salt. Regardless, it's obvious the Switch will continue to remain in high demand despite the launch of new Sony/Microsoft hardware, as I have been saying for the last year.
@eltomo Probably the evergreen games So far Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's lowest selling year was actually 2017. So its legitimately became more and more of a system seller over time.
@eltomo "Nothing really that new in the last 12 months."
Um, completely disagree. The Switch has released this year games like Metroid Dread (potentially GOTY), SMT V, No More Heroes III, Monster Hunter Rise, Bowser's Fury, Bravely Default II, Mario Golf, Warioware, Skyward Sword Remaster, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Disco Elysium, World War Z, Eastward, GTA trilogy (I know it's the whipping boy for review bombers, but I'm playing GTA III right now and having a great time), N64 Switch online and more.
I'd say this has been one of the better years for new games for the Switch.
@kingbk I get what you're saying, but there is mostly sequels and remakes on that list.
I meant more like Ring Fit, Mario Kart Circuit, that kind of stuff.
Amazing console some how keeps selling.
I loved my Switch in the early couple of years.
But not much for me now, since their real first party studios seem absent of games or busy doing remakes.
A bit of 2nd party stuff was good Yoshi, Luigi mansion etc.
shall see next year, BOTW 2 will get me back, but not counting on that next year 2022.
Well what do you expect when it's never in stock, also did they specifically only include the searches that included the word "playstation"?
If so then that's why it's so low as the majority of people would just type the words "Ps5"
Also I wouldn't call playstation and xbox the switch's rivals, xbox and playstation are competing against each other whilst Nintendo are doing their own thing and are more in the handheld console category.
Hence why most people have a Nintendo switch to go along with either their playstation or Xbox console (or both)
@Medic_Alert See, your comment is well reasoned and level headed...unlike all the people fighting in super markets to get their hands on a TV.
@FragRed,
Surprised or upset that the Ps5 was not on top?
@CactusMan Hahah, it's so high because it's the safest item to go out and try to buy!
Why is this so hard to believe?
Who cares who's the most popular, just enjoy your console of choice.
@eltomo Maybe people gave up
@Dezzy70 Metroid Dread says hello.
Switch has a bunch of very popular exclusive games while a PS5 still has a scarce exclusive library not surprised.
Am I the only commenter to consider the reason for more searches for Switch deals is the lack of discounting, especially compared to the other platforms? There are some good discounts just announced in the U.S. but here in the UK the discounts are pathetic, and I'm sure that's the case elsewhere too.
@Anti-Matter like dude said no games
@Dezzy70 and the games you named are first party not 2nd party
@gcunit
Kinect games from XBOX 360 era was the best attempt from Microsoft to cater casual gamers.
Too bad, Microsoft discontinued Kinect too early.
I would take all this with a huge grain of salt, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Switch was still a hot item this season. A new model on the shelf, there's Mario Party, Metroid Dread and Pokemon, and the big Animal Crossing update has brought a lot of attention. I see my kid playing AC again after not touching it for over a year.
Not entirely surprised. The Switch is the oldest console of this current generation (I'm fed up with classifying it as a last generation console), which automatically means it has more games to choose from minus the backwards compatibility and enhanced ports from last gen.
It's also the only one of the three that incentivises consumers to purchase multiple rather than sharing one, due to most games playing better on separate consoles or some games unnecessarily warranting separate consoles.
Once again, it's a console meant for everyone. Something that actually offers something for all target audiences, aside from those who don't understand the costs of hardware for handheld gaming; it's still expensive to manufacture.
The console's original purpose of being that hybrid console is really starting to flesh out as more people are entering that stage of hybrid reopenings or full reopenings from COVID.
@Darkyoshi98
Yoshi, Kirby, Luigi mansion are not made by Nintendo internal first party studios.
@kingbk
Metroid Dread, not a Nintendo internal studio
Mercury made this game.
It is above average but not that special.
@Anti-Matter lmao I didn’t notice that at first
@Serialsid That is a lame excuse. The PS5 needs games. Any system does. Remember the Wii U? That is what sadly sunk it when they had a big drought.

@mariopartyfan68 the ps5 has great games. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean it doesn't. The xbox has had a very quiet first year but that's selling great for them. And the ps5 has had more games in its first year than the switch did. The ps5 will not have any drought(a few months doesn't count), the first months of the new year are packed. And Sony have stated they have 25 unannounced games in production. Lots to look forward to.
@Serialsid If you like them, fine, but nothing impresses me so far. Sony always starts out this badly.
@mariopartyfan68 just because they don't impress you doesn't mean they aren't good. I really don't like jrpg's, but I can appreciate they are good games and people love them.
How has Sony started out badly? Switch sold 15 million in its first year! Ps5 was at 13.4 million at the end of September, 10 and a half months after release. So it will probably sell around the same as the switch in its first year! I see what your saying now, the switch must have started out badly too! Funny thing is the switch launched in normal times, the ps5 during a global pandemic and massive chip shortage! Just imagine how many ps5's they could have sold in normal times 20-25 million? 🤔
