Zelda all the way for me, can't stand the fat plumber and absolutely hate platformers. I don't buy anything with the main focus on the plumber. He might be nintendo's mascot but he ain't mine
@BlueOcean
I don't mind what Foundry do, even though it fuels the console war debate. For me there isn't a hardware war, i have multiple gaming devices, it's all about the games for me. I own 2 games on switch, Doom & Skyrim and my next game will be wolfenstein, it's become my portable Bethesda device. I have no intentions of buying any games developed by Ninty until Prime makes a appearance. I have a back catalogue on my Vita & JXD to finish, i don't play on my wii u anymore and the PS4 i bought a few months ago hasn't even left the box since i bought it from a mate at work, he moved onto the Pro, i bought it for remoteplay only. So yep no wars for me, it's all bollocks
@SaKo
I ain't talking about digital foundry, i like what they do. I am talking about the many comments on NL over the months, it's a bit off topic but just had to say it, i should have explained my comment better, my bad
No thx, already played them, no need to double dip. You want a game with guns buy DOOM, a masterpiece of f#+k you attitude on hard difficulty. Quake reeboot next
You didn't read my posts correctly, the machines i mentioned are also hybrid, not only that they were available long before the switch released. Switch isn't the first ever hybrid. The JXD SINGULARITY is also more capable than the switch, it also has 4k on the go aswell as docked to your TV. I like my switch but there are better retro machines about. They are the ultimate retro machines capable of anything switch can do and yes the morpheos X300 device also has detachable controllers and it was released in 2015. The switch may be better for modern gaming but will certainly never be for retro gaming, not by a country mile. Anyways it don't even have VC yet so it's irrelevant at this point what switch might do or not do
@electrolite77 Yep, shiver me timbers. To be fair some games you still have to buy the game on playstore, then you download a patch for infinite money to spend on loot boxes. That's not piracy because you bought the game but not sure where the patch stands. Many other games are free with unlocked loot boxes or infinite health or ammo etc. I recently downloaded Batman the dark knight rises with infinite money to buy all upgrades for gadgets and combat, this game isn't even available anymore on playstore
@Heavyarms55 Yep, but many others do, just the way it is mate. It's here to stay even if ppl don't like it. Regardless of that, this is the only way to have the ultimate retro device, nothing compares to them, not even the VC.
@MsgBoardGamer Don't get me wrong, i think the switch is great, i finally bought one with Doom. But i am also happy to own one of these jxd machines for all my retro gaming, wouldn't have bothered me if they were a knock off hybrid or not. Tbh it gives me something my switch can't on a massive level, and that's gaming history. The switch and JXD i have complement each other, one for modern the other retro gaming, makes me a happy gamer
Seems to me not everyone is clued up about android mobile gaming,. If you use playstore then you deserve to pay, just download modded version of game you want from your browser, all loot boxes are unlocked free of charge or get games for free instead of paying for them on playstore. Also there are devices with integrated buttons, with a mapping button, no need to use the touchscreen for gaming
@Heavyarms55 No it isn't the ultimate device for retro. For starters it ain't even got those games for switch yet and if they do eventually, it will be only selected games. OK with that said there are many device's, even hybrids that play on Tv or on the go that already have everything you want. I have a jxd s7800b device, i could if I choose to have every SNES game made, even 3rd party. It plays many emulators like N64, DS, GBA, GB, NES. also PS1, PSP, DREAMCAST, TURBO GFX, NEOGEO and NEO POCKET, AMIGA, MASTERSYSTEM, MEGADRIVE, GAMEGEAR, JAGUAR, 32X, MEGA CD, MAME, ATARI ST, MSDOS, WONDERSWAN, and yes the dolphin emulator which means Gamecube/wii games, this all means every game for every machine i just mentioned absolutely FREE of charge, also plays every Android game as a bonus and I don't mean the ones on playstore with their loot boxes that you pay for, just simply download molded versions through your browser to unlock or get infinite money for free to purchase the loot boxes. One more thing, the device has physical buttons, so none of that touch screen garbage, also a hybrid. There are other hybrids that also do the same but better than the one i have. I own a switch but it could never compete with these devices with retro gaming. Check-out GPD XD and the JXD SINGULARITY they are probably the best you can get, my JXD is a lesser model, not as powerful as the others I mentioned, they are the ultimate hybrid retro gaming machines, switch doesn't and never will come close to them. On the Otterham the switch is better than them for modern games but the singularity isn't to far behind with the latest console like android games, not that flappy bird stuff for casuals
Yeah I bet both doom and Skyrim are great in VR mode. I just got back from town with my brand new switch and a copy of DOOM, hoping to kick some butt in multiplayer. For now the only other games i will be interested in is Skyrim, it was doom that persuaded me to buy a switch. Can't believe you finished resistance and COD on vita, both terrible games and very sloppy controls, well done with sticking with them, i sold them without finishing them, i have small hands for a bloke, so I didn't have problems with rear touchpad on any games really. Anyways i have just started charging the switch, how long does it take and do i have to do a system update
@JaxonH Doom on switch has a great single player campaign but the multiplayer online is very average, played it on ps4. For me killzone mercenary on vita is still the best FPS on a handheld for gameplay. Doom and KZ both have good campaign modes, but Doom wins that, eventually it all comes down to multiplayer and doom falls flat compared to KZ mercenaries. Yeah doom has better graphics but that's irrelevant, it's all down to gameplay. Resolution and all that is just banana skin, frames per second is more important than resolution, especially when it drops to 20 or less like Doom or borderlands 2, got to say i did manage to finish borderlands on vita, not too much hassle with the touchpad at the back, only sometimes i double tapped it and started running when I didn't want to lol, don't know if I played a patched version way after its original release but slowdown was very minimum, it was a fun game with a garbage multiplayer. So yeah KZ still #1 for FPS in handheld, Doom 2nd and the rest are nowhere near these 2 great games, i do hope wolfenstein has a great multiplayer and topples both these games
@MsgBoardGamer Yep, mixed them up, still there were hybrids out before switch was patent, like S5100b. Can't see how they were knock off a switch patent, when it didn't even exist on paper. That's the thing, switch was on paper in 2015 and morpheos 300 was a physical thing in 2015, like i said they were late to market. Not all these devices are Chinese, Archos is French, don't matter if it's Chinese or alien, a direct knock off or not, simple fact is there were hybrids doing the rounds well before switch. Also where do you think the switch is made, yep China. I like Ninty and the switch but I couldn't care less if it was a success or fail, it's just about games really, that's why i own many device's. No way could i be stuck in one companies gaming bubble, especially a Nintendo one. Anyhow thx for pointing out my mix up, sh#t happens
2k games are bugged out, their constant stream of games are always a mess and not just on switch. I won't bother with a 2k game again, had enough of grubby bugged out games or mega slow down, shameful
Great that the switch is, it certainly ain't a new invention. Innovation lmao, other companies released their hardware hybrid devices long before Ninty with the switch, if anything Ninty were slower to bring it to market. A good example would be the Morpheos X300, first revealed in 2013 with a working device before going to kick-start, it failed but they still released it anyway, it's a hybrid that also has detachable controllers plus on the go or TV plus table top if that's your thing. This was just 1 example there are others. The switch is fantastic with a few great games but i am more than aware of other devices doing the same thing as switch, only before switch was even a thing. TIMES don't have a clue or knowledge of what's going on in the gaming world
@PorllM It's more pro Sony but xbox ain't far behind. Tbh Japan and USA are the pillars for Nintendo and the switch, France, Germany and UK are the roof on top of those pillars and rest of the world is the furniture inside the house that Nintendo built, something like that anyway. It will be Japan and USA that drives major sales for switch, Europe is Sony territory, USA is a free-for-all and Japan is pretty much Nintendo land with a decent splash of sony
@PorllM UK is nintendo's weakest territory. Man u don't have a clue. Switch sold 80 thousand at launch in UK and only 2 thousand in Greece, official numbers from nintendo. Apart from France and Germany the UK is nintendo's 3rd best market in EU. It always has been.
@GravyThief Hmm OK, Morpheos X300 is a hybrid, also it has detachable controllers and was out before switch. There are lots of hybrids, to name a few GPD XD, JXD S7800, JXD SINGULARITY, these are all available before switch, also the Archos which is made in France. Nintendo wasn't first but they certainly made hybrid mainstream and good on them
@sword_9mm Lol yep i have probably drunk enough to sink a battleship. VR will do better than 3d and Sony will bring a superior version to ps5 as a add-on, certainly not built in. I ain't saying it's taking over the world but it will offer a greater experience than just staring at a screen on tv, i am certainly ready for something different, but in all fairness it will have to bring it's A game. Who would have thought Nintendo would have brought back wii controllers, but it's working for them even though they are garbage. Like i said we won't be playing games the way we do now, but who knows it's future. Lol let's hope it ain't a iPhone future, exciting times ahead for sure whatever the outcome
Seems to me Ubisoft already have Dev kits, takes 2 to 4 years to make big games, yep Ubisoft are already working on a game for next gen. VR will evolve into something fantastical and Sony will be at the front of the line. VR is the short term future of gaming, right now it's going through a experiment phase but will blow your mind with ps5. Traditional gaming will die sooner rather than later, 30 years from now you won't be playing games the way you do now
@nhSnork If switch is gen 9, then it's a poor showing from nintendo. Hmm gen 9 and still lacking behind other hardware manufacturers from gen 8, don't look to good from that perspective. Anyways it's nintendo's 2nd attempt at gen 8. Another thing mate Nintendo didn't pioneer hybrid gaming, far from it, other hardware were doing it way before switch, only switch made it more mainstream. Take a look at the morpheos 300, it's a tablet just like switch with detachable controllers that also plays games on TV or on the go, also it came out in 2013, that is just 1 example, there are many others
@electrolite77 There are 2 main companies that make these devices, GPD and JXD, both Chinese operating out of Hong Kong. Both have a long history of making emulation retro hybrids, very similar to what the switch is doing. The jxds7800b is a great machine for retro play, although a bit on the large size, it ain't pocket material. It runs most emulators very smoothly but can't really run the dolphin emulator, which for those that don't know is Gamecube/Wii games. It also isn't great for playing unreal 4 engine games on Android but everything else is game, basically it runs last gen games equivalent, competing against vita and matching MS360 isn't much of a problem for it. Having said all that you get free apps like showbox and mobdro to watch all your favourite movies and channel's, sky sports, sky movies all for free, like the switch you can take it on the go or use on the TV. Right now that's out of the way there are 2 better alternatives, the GPD XD and JXD singularity, both machines have superior CPU/GPU chips than jxds7800b, the singularity is certainly the best machine out of the 3 but for overall value GPD XD is the one to buy. The latter 2 i mentioned have no problem running unreal4 and the singularity runs the dolphin emulator. The answer to your question is, yep the jxds7800b is worth buying, especially if you find a cheap one, also it's a great companion to have with other hardware you have, it will still be 2nd fiddle to your switch but it's certainly retro heaven that you will never have on dedicated gaming hardware
@electrolite77 Well mate i am a old school gamer, age 48. I still play original Doom and many doom mods, yep graphics don't matter if the games are great. I have loads of old games that put many new games to shame. Emulators and a JXD S7800B is a great thing to own, a great companion next to other hardware i own
Who would have thought the fat plumber would have been knocked of top spot after 2nd weekend by a cod game in Japan. I dislike cod but hate the plumber more, good sales for switch though
No surprise here, it was always going to be a inferior version on switch, same with any multiplatform game on switch going up against 2 machines that out strip the switch very comfortably. Doom will be no different
@FTL Yep, it was a statement by Bethesda themselves. It should have the full game on cartridge but it is what it is and probably still a good port aswell. I am busy playing original Doom 1&2 at the moment plus Quake 2 on my JXD S7800B device
@FTL Bethesda might have done it right with Doom, nah. They have put the single player game on a cartridge which sounds great but also Bethesda have stated it won't be a straight port, basically it will be heavily compromised compared to ps4 version. Resolution, fps, texture etc will take a hit, dumbdowned version basically. I for one would rather buy games that were not dumbdowned, had my fill of that on vita with ps3 ports, switch is no different trying to play ps4/xone games. For me the switch's strength will be Ninty developed games and indie steam/mobile with a good helping of Japanese games. Big 3rd party western games on ps4/xone will all be compromised on switch creating a ripple effect of low sales to a point where big western devs might even abandon switch regardless of switch units sold.

The answer to your question is, yep the jxds7800b is worth buying, especially if you find a cheap one, also it's a great companion to have with other hardware you have, it will still be 2nd fiddle to your switch but it's certainly retro heaven that you will never have on dedicated gaming hardware
Re: Review: DOOM (Switch)
Switch Doom, metacritic 79 so far, pretty much on par with this review
Re: Video: See How Well DOOM Holds Up on Switch Compared to Xbox One
@electrolite77
Well mate i am a old school gamer, age 48. I still play original Doom and many doom mods, yep graphics don't matter if the games are great. I have loads of old games that put many new games to shame. Emulators and a JXD S7800B is a great thing to own, a great companion next to other hardware i own
Re: Review: Sonic Forces (Switch)
Wow I was expecting a 8 upwards from NL, they must have forgotten how to count. Ah i see, it wasn't made by nintendo
Re: Super Mario Odyssey and Nintendo Switch Continue Strong Run in Japan
Who would have thought the fat plumber would have been knocked of top spot after 2nd weekend by a cod game in Japan. I dislike cod but hate the plumber more, good sales for switch though
Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Analysis Points To Switch Sonic Forces Being The Worst Version
No surprise here, it was always going to be a inferior version on switch, same with any multiplatform game on switch going up against 2 machines that out strip the switch very comfortably. Doom will be no different

Re: Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition Update Tackles Load Times and Framerate on Switch
@FTL
Yep, it was a statement by Bethesda themselves. It should have the full game on cartridge but it is what it is and probably still a good port aswell. I am busy playing original Doom 1&2 at the moment plus Quake 2 on my JXD S7800B device
Re: Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition Update Tackles Load Times and Framerate on Switch
@FTL
Bethesda might have done it right with Doom, nah.
Re: Spellspire Should Keep Word Wizards Busy on the Switch eShop
@Lroy
This game is also on vita and Android
