Hope this is true. I preordered it on Steam and have been playing it religiously (heh) since it was released. Fantastic game, too bad some people are offended by it.
So is this new GC controller going to be usable with original GCs and Wiis? I'm hoping yes. It's near impossible to find 1st party GC controllers in good condition nowadays.
I agree with the review and score. It's a perfectly functional game with some nice touches. I very much like the soundtrack and chess challenges. As a single player experience, it's pretty good. The fixed isometric view on the top screen is disappointing and sometimes the bottom screen is "illuminated" in a way that makes it hard to discern white pieces on the white squares.
The absurd popularity of Football Manager is something I will never understand. It combines the world's most boring sport with the excitement of spreadsheets.
@Alpha2797 That's a good theory and it's likely that Nintendo is indeed thinking that way. But I'm not sure how much of a selling point it really is. I think Nintendo might be overestimating that. Personally, I'd buy a new console specifically for new games. Being able to access old titles is certainly a great bonus, but it wouldn't influence my choice of console much. I mean, I can go to my local game shop and buy a GBA for $5 if I wanted to. But you are probably right in thinking that Nintendo believes this will help the WiiU.
@OorWullie Really? Hmm. I'd have to see it to believe it. It might depend on the game too. Some GBA games are fairly crisp while others look muddy and dated. I used to own a GC gameboy player and I don't remember games looking overly good on my TV. And in 2014 my TV is much larger.
@ikki5 I should have worded that differently. I mean that it makes absolutely no sense to only release these on the WiiU and completely ignore the 3DS. I fail to see the logic behind this decision.
Not to mention that GBA games will look terrible when blown up to fit on a TV or gamepad.
The game clearly objectifies women, that's not even up for debate. But as silly and tasteless as it may be, it has every right to exist. I'd say the same thing about a game with scantily clad males in it.
@Yorumi I'm not defending hatred, I'm defending freedom of speech. Is the game making light of religion? Definitely. Is it mocking religion? I suppose in a way it is. But it's an exaggeration to claim that there's any sort of "hatred". Games should be allowed to touch on controversial issues. Considering the unanimous critical acclaim and impressive sales that Binding of Isaac has, it's clear that people have responded positively. @Capt_N I agree that the theme/presentation can potentially be interpreted as an attack, but as the saying goes, "never judge a book by its cover". I've played over 100 hours of the game and certainly never got the impression that the game was trying to make a statement one way or the other. It's not really a game about religion, rather a game that uses it to touch on other issues.
@Yorumi Speaking of reliable sources, where's your proof that Edmund McMillen specifically created Binding of Isaac to insult and attack Christianity? That's what you keep saying. Do you have a quote or something? Because the paragraph I posted above (along with everything else I've read) suggests otherwise.
@Yorumi - You keep ignorantly saying that the game was specifically designed to insult Christians and that the creator is a vile person. It's clear you don't actually know anything about the game or creator. I'm a big fan of his work; he comes across as a very likable person with unique ideas. I suggest watching Indie Game: The Movie. Anyway, here's a link to the second page of an article Edmund McMillen wrote about the game: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/182380/postmortem_mcmillen_and_himsls_.php?page=2
I think this paragraph is a good one:
"I wanted Isaac to embody this duality I experienced with religion. I wanted it to show the positive and negative effects it had on me as a child — the self-hate and isolation it instilled in me, but also the dark creativity it inspired. The Bible is a very good, creatively written book, and one of my favorite aspects of it is how so many people can find different meanings in one passage. I wanted Isaac to have this in its story as well, which is why the game's final ending(s) have many possible interpretations."
That doesn't exactly support your accusations. I'll admit, I'm not religious. But I've put over 100 hours into the game, and in no way do I feel that it is mocking Christianity. In fact, the game has overwhelmingly positive messages about God, holiness, and the bible. Heck, the bible is one of the most powerful weapons in the game.
@Frapp - There's little to get upset about with a few religious references.
I'm not sure how Nintendo justifies rejecting Binding of Isaac for having inappropriate content while a game like Senran Kagura Burst is apparently fine.
$7.99 on 3DS? I suppose that's reasonable, though I'll have to wait on the reviews. The video is gorgeous, but clearly it's the Wii U version and almost certainly pre-rendered.
@unrandomsam Fair enough. You're right that the word "metroidvania" is overused and doesn't always describe games well. Guacamelee is a lot more of a beat-em-up than Castlevania or Metroid. I can see how you might have been disappointed if you were expecting something more like La-Mulana or Rondo of Blood.
I absolutely love the combat though. I found it to be incredibly fluid and satisfying. Button-mashing won't get you too far in the later levels, as enemies aren't just the simple skeletons that you fight early on. You really need to end up mastering the special moves and combos. And the bosses require a great amount of skill to beat. To each his own, though.
@unrandomsam Out of curiosity, what did you think was "mediocre" about it? I can't imagine anyone not liking the game, it's almost perfect. I can't think of anything to really complain about besides perhaps some difficulty spikes.
When they say "we are deactivating the Wi-fi service on the DS and Wii", does that really just mean that they are shutting down the servers for all DS and Wii games?
@Kirk and @DerpSandwich basically summed up all of the thoughts I have on this issue. I don't understand why so many Nintendo "fans" feel the need to defend Nintendo at every opportunity and shift blame elsewhere. You aren't helping Nintendo by trying to excuse all of their mistakes.
I love Team Meat and can understand why they don't want to risk putting games on the WiiU or even the 3DS. Nobody to blame there but Nintendo. The PC is a far better place for indie games. Even the Xbox and PS digital stores are pretty safe choices.
@TreonsRealm As @Kodeen pointed out, Steam doesn't release sales numbers. PC retail copies are pretty much irrelevant. There's no chance whatsoever that the WiiU version outsold the PC version.
This is unexpected and somewhat cool. I guess the logic behind not having this on the 3DS is the fact that the 3DS is already backwards compatible. The pricing structure will make or break this though.

Re: Ubisoft Expects Watch_Dogs To Be One Of The Biggest Selling Titles Of 2014
It definitely will be, just not on the WiiU.

Re: Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida Highlights Brushes With Miiverse Law
The strict modding on Miiverse certainly doesn't help the "kiddie" image Nintendo maintains in a lot of people's eyes.
