Back in February Nintendo announced that Game Boy Advance games would arrive on the Wii U Virtual Console in April, and has now confirmed an early treat on the way to the service. Surprisingly, it's not one of the games initially announced.
Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that GBA original Advance Wars will hit the service on 3rd April, exciting news for fans of the turn-based war strategy series.
Nintendo of America has made no equivalent announcement as yet, but it seems like an exciting starting point for the GBA library on the Wii U.
Will you be downloading this and heading into battle?

YES!!!! I love Advanced Wars so much! Really hope Black Hole Rising also makes it to the VC at some point. Mind a new title would also be a dream.
@Captain_Toad A Woot Woot!
I wonder if Nintendo will revive the Wars series any time soon.
Yes, I love this game!
This is an excellent first release for the GBA VC. I really hope this is what we get in the US as well..
@guybrush20x6 What you meant to say is "inb4 new Advanced Wars confirmed!" People like to take stuff as hints. I'd like to believe they have one in the works right now, as well.
While I am excited for this, I'm bummed out that I need to get the Wii U instead of it being on 3DS?
What about NA? Virtual Console releases should be available on both 3DS and WiiU. I'm happy with these games on the WiiU but I'm sure many 3DS users will be disappointed.
If it comes to NA I'll get it!
@Gso @Artwark Although I'm with you guys that they should be released on both systems, right now Nintendo needs to give you reasons to own a WiiU. Like it or not, this is one way of doing that. Not to mention Earthbound is already on the system. And there are plenty of great games for WiiU, it's worth buying at this point, or at least get the Mario Kart 8 bundle in May.
No NA? What is this?
Jealous, hope NOA does that here too. I lost that game a looong time ago and I'd love to play it again...
just waiting for metroid fusion
I hope they make a decent Battalion Wars for Wii U and a turn based on too.
@MAN1AC
This is SMB3 all over again. Mwhahahaha!
I really like the original Advance Wars however, I can already foresee this costing upwards of £10 (or $15 for those over the pond).
... please price this sensibly Nintendo.
I don't understand why the US versions of games on Virtual Console to make it to North America at the same time or sooner than in Europe. It's the same game, so no changes need to be made.
With the release of multiple VC games on Wii U for Europe this week and this announcement, I wonder if we will finally see a large increase of VC games each week from here on out. I kinda assumed Nintendo was punting the final couple months of the fiscal year. Would be nice to see a strong push from April onwards from Nintendo.
NOA better match or best this — even though I really enjoy seeing the complaints week after week about a lack of SMB3
Still can't believe all of this is staying away from 3DSes. Hopefully GBA games will become available once again as the portable games they're supposed to be. Someday.
Unless, of course, Ninty realizes this is yet another shooting in their own feet.
This better be in the north American virtual console. Though I still wish it's in the 3ds.
I'm starting to hate NoA more and more every day.
Are they going to announce MK pre-order specials?
Grr, now I gotta buy this in the vain attempt to let Nintendo know that I still care about the series...
I wish we were getting this on the 3DS, but at least we get it, I hope that we start getting new Advance Wars, also new Final Fantasy Tactics games.
Come to 3DS please. GBA games on the WiiU makes no sense whatsoever.
And so it begins
I have always wanted to play the originals since I only have Dark Conflict.
Handheld games belong on a handheld.... :/
@bluecat GBA games can't run on the 3DS in the virtual console format. Only in the DS games format, sadly. No save states, no resets, no nothing.
Waiting for Yoshi's Island instead! I wonder if they'll improve the sound quality for these games.
This is amazing!! And of course because of that, NoA just doesn't do anything to bring the game here as well . Let's remember we don't even have Super Mario Bros 3 yet!
@Captain_Toad Yes, yes you can .
@sinalefa This will be like SMB3 I bet. I can taste the NA delay on this. Darn you Reggie!!!!!!
I just recently played this one to about 50% completion (after beating it before a couple times), so maybe I will have to wait for this one and buy it if the price is fair.
@Peek-a-boo In Japan, it's priced at 650 Yen, the equivalent of $6. I can see it following the $7-$8 trend, because GB games are $3-$4, GBC are $5-$6. So expect $8 for a game like Advance Wars.
@XCWarrior Those type of tricks make it less likely for me to get one not more.
@Gold Doesn't matter. Save states are for cheaters, anyways
...When I saw the title I thought that IS was actually making a new Advance Wars game for the Wii U. xD
The US game market isn't doing so hot right now (no thanks to robber barons like EA with their Zynga and PopCap brands raking in too much profit on casual titles) so Advance Wars hitting Europe first before America is the only way to assure international markets are still paying attention to GBA.
Nope. Not buying any GBA games on my Wii U. If it comes to the 3DS VC though, that'd be a different matter entirely.
@WesCash
Explain... and if you are going to say it is because they are handhelds then NES games don't make sense on 3DS
@Gso I thnk 3ds owners get wat more games than u owners. Gota let um have something right
Good taste on nintendo's part. Advance wars is a pretty fun game from what i have played of it. The 3ds exclusion saddens me though.
One of the few major GBA games that I haven't yet played, certainly going to give it a buy. I'd also like to see Fire Emblem for GBA (not Sacred Stones, I've got that on 3DS, the first one) which is one of the only other great GBA games I haven't played.
I'm currently playing Black Hole Rising on the GBA (yes, I'm a decade behind on handhelds), and I'm loving every minute of it. Haven't played the first GBA iteration, so I would definitely get this when possible.
Also add me to the pool of people hoping there is some sort of revival of this series on the Wii U (or at least a more interesting take on the Battalion offshoot).
I know it wouldn't be a system seller, but I'd also be up for Intelligent Systems making a SRPG in the Paper Mario Universe, just more strategy experiences on the Wii U either way, please!
Nice. I never played the original game, but I do like turned-based combat strategy games like Fire Emblem and XCOM. I'll be interested to see how this looks on the TV, but given I enjoy NES and SNES games on my Wii U, I'm not too concerned.
That's a start
Wooooooooo! Now if this sells well anyone think we might get a Batallion Wars 3U? the gamepad screams rts! All i need to hear now is that DS games are launching the following week with Portrait of Ruin.
To those saying these should only be on portables, speak for yourselves. The GBA games look pretty fantastic on a 60 inch TV without any special filter running in 1080p. What's funny is alot of indie games are trying to replicate that 16-bit sprite look & they just never seem to get it right.
I should note this is via emulator, what the actual Wii U version will look like is anyone's guess.
YYYEEESSS!!!!!!
@ WiiULoveGBA
I hope it is, so our friend @Gerbwmu keeps getting amused every week, as technically SMB3 should arrive in time for NES Remix 2, a month from today.
BTW, loving your new avatar. Reminds me I never tried Kokopolo, and that Scram Kitty should be around the corner.
This would be great!! I never actually tried this game back when it was first released for whatever reason. It looks fun!
Problem is, I have to wait on NOA to decide when it if they will release it... I really wish they would at least give us a reason why they have neglected the VC more and more as time goes on. We don't even get a "please understand"!
I will concede that bringing GBA to the Wii U VC is a good move. I just dislike the fact that because the Wii U is struggling, the 3DS is not getting the GBA VC that it rightfully deserves as well. I'm not saying that GBA games don't belong on the Wii U. I'm just saying the the 3DS should get it as well. I hope the next Nintendo Direct proves me wrong.
No way! Possibly the greatest game ever, maybe the sequel, not sure!
Hmm, what happens if I fill every square up on the Wii U menu?
oh i loved this many a nightshift on breakdown cover wasted with this passing the gba back and forward..
Online wood be welcome as well
@booker_steve The menu adds another page as you need them. Still wondering why there aren't folders, though.
Yes! All of my yes! Advance Wars is one of my favorite series. Please come to NA too. ;_;
@ikki5
I should have worded that differently. I mean that it makes absolutely no sense to only release these on the WiiU and completely ignore the 3DS. I fail to see the logic behind this decision.
Not to mention that GBA games will look terrible when blown up to fit on a TV or gamepad.
Great first GBA game but like others I'm still a bit baffled why these are coming to Wii U and not 3DS?!
Is it simply because Nintendo are desperate for Wii U content? I'd much rather play this on the move than on the Gamepad...
@WesCash
I have a theory. What if the reason Nintendo is planning to release GBA and DS games only on Wii U's virtual console is to get people to buy a Wii U? I remember reading an earlier comment saying something along the lines of "Am I going to have to buy a Wii U to play these games?" This might be Nintendo's thought process at the moment. "People who want these virtual console games have to convert over to Wii U as well. I already have a Wii U so looks like I'm buying them for Wii U. I hope they don't take up too much space.
NOTE: This is just a thought of mine, my personal opinion.
It's a real shame that the poor performance of Wii U has somewhat forced Nintendo's hand on this one.
3DS is the obvious home for GBA titles and I fully understand why so many people are very annoyed at this.
Maybe GBA games will make it to 3DS when Wii U's fate is finally determined (one way or the other).
Nintendo should use GBA games to push 3DS owners to buy a Wii U by not putting them on the 3DS eshop and implementing a crossbuy system which gives people access to a GBA game on their 3DS if they bought it on the Wii U. I doubt Nintendo would do anything similar to this though.
@BieberBlows Yeah I could understand Nintendo's decision to put them on Wii U if it was part of a 3DS cross-buy scheme. That would be great but for some reason I doubt that's their plan unfortunately...
@Artwark There was never meant to be a GBA VC on the 3DS. There's not even a SNES VC...
Woot!! Hint at new AW incoming? Let's hope so!
I love Advance Wrs, but I'm so not gonna get this on WiiU. 3DS or no deal!
@Melkac The Ambassador program says otherwise. Also, SNES VC isn't on 3DS because the SNES isn't a handheld, simply. GBA, however, is a handheld, and as such makes no sense getting GBA VC releases on a home console instead of a handheld.
@sinalefa Thanks! Kokopolo is awesome and I can't wait for Scram Kitty!
@WesCash I've played many GBA games on a large TV running through an emulator and with or without filters they look surprisingly great .You will be impressed. I don't know about DS games though but I'd imagine they will look even better.
Always wanted to give this a try, so I'll be excited if it comes to the Americas. Hopefully this is kind of a foreshadowing and there's a new Wii U original game for the series in the pipeline.
@brewsky It's out in Japan already?
I have never even herd of Advance Wars till now. I did miss out on a lout of Nintendo GBA games back in the day though. Till i got free GBA games on my 3DS from Nintendo. Otherwise I mostly owned 3rd party games.
@gsmaciel Not that I'm aware of, but the price was announced.
So does anyone on here know how much the Game Boy Advance games will Cost o the Wii U? Hopefully no more then $8. I was guessing between between $8 and$10 knowing Nintendo with there somewhat high VC prices.
Pretty sweet. AW1 is my second favorite AW game after Days of Ruin. I think it also has the best campaing of the whole series.
It was originally a portable title. It's too bad Nintendo doesn't have a handheld video game system with the ability to run virtual console titles, as it would make so much more sense to release this game on that device's online story. Oh well, maybe in the future...
This is a great game and I really should buy it. Or find it somewhere to play on my old game boy micro - which was awesome, by the way:)
I picked up the original cart at a con a few months ago, but have yet to try it. Looking forward to the service on the Wii U though!
I'm looking forward to this game. I lost my cartridge for Advance Wars 1 so I'm going to be purchasing this game so I can relive the good old days with a GBA.
Believe it or not, the game I'm looking forward to the most on the Wii U virtual console is Mario Party Advance. Never owned it but I'd like to. I hope this game gets released at some point this year.
My only problem with GBA VC on Wii U is if they end up doing the same thing they did with the 3DS Ambassador VC. Those GBA titles have major ghosting forced on them to try and imitate the GBA LCD (not the actual hardware), which is more of a hindrance than a benefit. They need to both get rid of the ghosting in the 3DS versions, and not use that in the Wii U versions.
I'm guessing straight port no imbedded touch screen controls, would have been perfect for this game. But honestly this should be a 3DS game. How crap is this going to look on a 42" TV
Come on Nintendo what are you playing at
As much as I love nintendo this should be avalible on both systems for 1 price but nintendo are so backwards some times it's unreal.
Instabuy love the AW series we need a new one on 3DS.
Definitely buying this! Just started Advance Wars: Dual Strike recently and I love it.
Considering NoA's attitude toward the Virtual Console, not only do I think that we'll get this later than Europe, but that we won't see GBA games hit the system until May, or even later. I try to maintain a positive attitude, especially on NL, where there's a stunning amount of negativity toward Nintendo, but please understand my frustration isn't with Nintendo itself, but it's North American branch, where Reggie continues to troll us by keeping the "Release SMB3" button hidden in the back of his desk drawer.
@allav866 I wholeheartedly agree... the issue for US gamers really seems to be that something is amiss at NOA. I love Nintendo, but looking at the way it treats its fans globally from the eShop to Club Nintendo... it all seems very imbalanced.
Don't get me wrong, I'll jump all over this, but I'd still much rather play it on 3DS.
If SNES games are $8-$10 and N64 are $12-$15, then GBA would probably be $15-$20, to which I'll have to pass.
@Alpha2797
That's a good theory and it's likely that Nintendo is indeed thinking that way. But I'm not sure how much of a selling point it really is. I think Nintendo might be overestimating that. Personally, I'd buy a new console specifically for new games. Being able to access old titles is certainly a great bonus, but it wouldn't influence my choice of console much. I mean, I can go to my local game shop and buy a GBA for $5 if I wanted to. But you are probably right in thinking that Nintendo believes this will help the WiiU.
@OorWullie
Really? Hmm. I'd have to see it to believe it. It might depend on the game too. Some GBA games are fairly crisp while others look muddy and dated. I used to own a GC gameboy player and I don't remember games looking overly good on my TV. And in 2014 my TV is much larger.
@WesCash
NES and SNES games don't look terrible and the resolutions are quite similar...
@sleepinglion I didn't notice much with Club Nintendo, but you're completely right! Our rewards pale in comparison to Europe and Japan. Even the Platinum rewards have been lackluster for the past 2 years. I kinda wish they offered more Club Nintendo-exclusive games, like Grill-Off with Ultra-Hand, Doc Louis's Punch Out!!, and the Game&Watch Collections.
Aww man I don't have a Wii U. If only they would released it on 3DS.
People won't buy a Wii U for future games but they will buy a PS4/Xbox One for future games. (Double standard much?) I bought my Wii U for future games. Those waiting for another price drop will be disappointed. They're selling Wii U at a huge enough lost as it is. I recommend getting a Wii U now. The time is now.
GBA games better not cost more than SNES games on the Wii U VC.
Hmmm.... I might get it, if the price was right... I mean, I've already got it for GBA....
Hard decision...
@DimetriWarrior Agreed!
@Mizore Yeah, me too, SO DISAPOINTED! Still great news!
@DimetriWarrior I'm sort of a different case. I bought the Wii U mostly for Wind Waker HD, even though I had the original. In that, not only did I buy a new system to play an older game, but it was a game I already had. I can't say I regret it though; now that I have a Wii U, I look forward to future games!
@Spanjard Yeah I actually didn't play the GBA ones all that much, so...coolz. xD
I'm really hoping this is a sign of a new game coming out for the 3ds. Nothing like hyping the new with the old!
cool still dont understand the no GBA games on 3ds.
but to be honest i play my wii u more anyways. i like big screens
Yes, great, awesome. Except not. Who ever needs GBA games on home console Wii U is? It's not even portable, and when I'm at home I have at my disposal options for far better games that I can't play on the go. Why is the GBA VC not on 3DS, where it would work best? Really, Virtual Console as a whole is not the reason I've bought Wii U in the first place and if that's all Nintendo can give us, then I will seriously consider calling it quits by the end of this year (and yes, Mario Kart and Brawl are not quite enough).
Don't get me wrong, I love Advance Wars and I played the heck out of it back in the day I had my silver GBA Micro (best handheld EVER), but this is just... sad... And with rumors of DS games on Wii U I'd say the system is on terminal life support. Because that's just how it looks.
um...what is the game gonna cost? I wanna download this for my friend next door as a late birthday present, but I only have a $10 eshop card I can use
Um...I hope it will not be more than $8
Aww thank you @epona ! I'm sure the game will be no more than $10, but will likely be a little bit more expensive than SNES games due to the technical specs being slightly higher for GBA games. The higher the specs the more difficult it is for companies to properly emulate games from past systems digitally through services such as Virtual Console.
Just look at the PS2 classics that are available through PSN, those games are buggier than a Louisiana swamp during the summer.
@Yorumi Except the Ambassador GBA games on 3DS are NOT emulated. They are runing on the metal (that is on pure hardware, which every DS has) in DS mode and I'm pretty sure they can't be emulated because of insufficient power.
It would STILL, however, make more sense for them to be on 3DS in that form than releasing them on Wii U.
By the way is this releasing in NA on April 3rd as well? That's the day we normally receive new eshop titles here in North America.
Enjoy your first GBA game, Europe, while we North Americans "savor" the April 3rd release of NES black box Soccer!!! I'm just kidding, but don't be surprised if it becomes a dark prophecy from the great beyond!
Everyone complains when the directs focus on 3ds or a new game gets announced for 3ds saying they need to focus on the Wii U.
Nintendo releases content on the Wii U instead of the 3ds and people still complain. How delightful.
I've only played Dual Strike, which although I liked the gameplay I found the tone of the game incredibly at odds with the fact it was about war. I'd definately get the darker ds version if it was inexpensive on the eshop.
How does the original compare to the later games in the series?
If I am a fan of the fire emblem series, will I enjoy this?
I've never played an Advance Wars game before, maybe I could try it out on Wii U?
This is a great game, but frankly I played the crap out of it on my Micro and have no intention of playing it anymore. Still, a great release for those who haven't experienced it before. This is the ONLY turn-based game that I have ever enjoyed.
Though I definitely would get pretty much every GBA game if they came to 3DS, it is nice that Wii U owners have a little something more to look forward to. At least bring the 2 Golden Sun games to the VC as I have never played them before and love rpg's!
@bluecat
"Handheld games belong on a handheld.... :/"
Exactly and we should start by removing all NES VC games from the 3DS and making them Wii U exclusive.
NoA has the worst Virtual Console out of all of them thus far. I want to have faith that they'll release Advance Wars and a few other GBA titles to get things off the ground, but who knows at this point? They've withheld SMB3 for months, so a delay in GBA games honestly wouldn't surprise me.
It's a shame that I even said that. Nintendo's sure figured out how to keep my expectations low lately.
Come to think of it, Nintendo of America is doing a lot of weird stuff at the moment. Dropping out of PAX East (which they've never done before), staying quiet about games (VC and otherwise)... Makes me think something else is going on over there.
I wonder if we'll ever see it in America.
@AJWolfTill This game is by far the most lighthearted. The game is better than Dual Strike however.
Great stuff.
@FlaygletheBagel They already confirmed April though in the last Direct
Wish it was on 3DS as well, but I'll be getting this. Love Advance Wars.
everybody buy and we get Green for a new Advance Wars game ;DDD
@MAN1AC
This was just a tweet from NoE, which has no authority to make announcements for regions other than their own. I'm guessing the game is coming to all regions, but NoE took the initiative to tell gamers in their region via social networking site.
So we know Advance Wars is coming, we know Metroid Fusion is coming, we know Klonoa is coming, and we know Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga is coming... that's a nice looking list thus far if I do say so myself. But, I'm still hung up on getting my DKC trilogy on Wii U VC. Perhaps this will bring the GBA DKC trilogy, although I'd be VERY upset if we got those in place of the SNES trilogy. I'll happily take the GBA version of the games, as long as we get the SNES version at some point too.
Do want. I know it won't happen but an online mode would be SWEET!
I want to know the price before I jump in. Why does Japan get several games and NOE and probably NOA still trickle these out? How is this acceptable? Just release everything in April, my gosh.
OMG you lucky *************
So, NA should be getting it in about July or so.
They should make this a cross platform buy like Sony does with ps3-vita-ps4 it makes sense with something like advance wars to be played on either 3ds or wii u.
@Kaze_Memaryu The NES is not a handheld either. (The M2 Arcade versions are as far from a handheld as you can get as well. There is the Nomad but there was never a PAL one and the Turbo Express). Old stuff looks better without the awful filters NIntendo has started to use as well.
@Alpha2797 - The problem with that theory is that no one is going to buy a Wii U just because it has a few GBA titles for sale on it. Someone who wanted to play these games would probably buy the original cartridge and GBA over a Wii U that they don't want. As for DS titles - I just assume that's because the 3DS can already play DS games.
"Nintendo of America has made no equivalent announcement as yet"
What a surprise... I wouldn't doubt if North America wouldn't get the GBA games until after April either.
Instant buy. Never had a GBA but played it on friends one for hours on end. Would love a 3DS game or a Battalion Wars on Wii u
Hopefully this gets announced for NA, this was one of the few games I owned on GBA. I love me some Advance Wars, I'd love to see a Wii U entry in the "Wars" series.
Yes!! This was the game I wanted when GBA was announced on the WiiU VC.
@shaneoh Hey, I'm down with that.
But you were probably being sarcastic.
@Gold If that is so, then I find it hard to believe that they can not modify the files in such a way that they would function on the 3DS. Besides, they put out those Ambassador GBA games.
I still don't know why the 3DS doesn't have GBA VC as yet available on the eShop. >.<
Yesss, I finally get the chance to try this franchise!
@unrandomsam True, and these NES/MegaDrive/Genesis/anyhomeconsole VC releases on 3DS don't make sense, either. But the fact that these exist on 3DS doesn't mean it's a smart idea to release GBA games on a home console (or portable games in general).
How about coming to the 3ds instead? It's been almost 3 years since we last got gba games on the 3ds. Why the stalling?
Awesome!! Now confirm this for the US please. Amazing game
Day 1 purchase
And time to wait a year for a NA release
This will be great for a good many people and I'm pleased for them, but I won't be buying it.
2 main reasons. Firstly the price will likely be high, and secondly I still have the game and my beloved Game Boy Micro to hand.
However if you've never played this I strongly recommend getting it when it's in a sale!
Yea, I'm curious on the pricing. The price is Japan doesn't seem too bad but if they're going to charge $10 or more for these, I might pass on some. Not only am I an Ambassador but I still have my GCN/GB Player combo.
I might buy it, but I would really like a new one. This is of course only if it comes to NA
I haven't played any of the Advance Wars games but got recommended to play them just last night so I'll be picking this up. As long as the price is right of course. I'm hoping GBA games are cheaper than the SNES ones...
@Unca_Lz Yeah, and they also confirmed Super Mario Bros. 3 would come out "by the end of 2013."
It is still beyond me as to why the GBA games on VC have this nasty mid-tone grey look to them and never actually reach white.
I may get it if it comes to NA Wii U eShop. However unless it's just a surprise release for NA, that probably won't happen anytime soon. >.>
Nope!
Just bring a new game for Wii U you lazy people instead of milking on old stuff.
Might actually get a Wii U now.
Ooohh, hopefully we'll see the Fire Emblem GBA games on the VC.
@Kifa Source? This seems like pure, 100% fan speculation. Plus, I'm sure Nintendo is fully capable of having more of these on the 3DS, but they won't have them for a long time because they'd rather drip-feed the games.
@WesCash I do agree. Why on the big Screen? Why not on the 3DS? They're releasing NES Games on the little Handheld...
Here in Europe people are literally raiding shops asking for the brand new Nintendo home console, the only one that let you play the GBA games!!! Please Nintendo, ship more consoles in EU, quickly!!!
If Nintendo believes they can sell more Wii Us by withholding it from the 3DS--I think it's a bad strategy. I would much prefer to play it on the go than to be locked down at home with the Wii U. I think they're strategy is to just piss us off.
@Yorumi 3DS is nowhere near as powerful as the Wii, because it's just not possible. From the specs we know it has a dual core ARM-11 CPU with clocks around 266-333 mhz, connected with 128MB of FCRAM (96MB for games). Wii has a 733 mhz PowerPC processor and 64GB of GDDR3 RAM. There is a Grand Canyon separating those two machines in terms of performance, also in GPU department (though it's difficult to directly compare a fixed-pipeline Flipper with half-programmable PICA200, so I'm not diving into it). Bottom line is - it would not be possible to accurately emulate GBA on this kind of hardware. And keep in mind - GBA is far more powerful than NES was.
@Olaf-symbiote I can't link you any sources, because all of them are linked to 3DS hacking community, and that would be against Nintendolife rules.
Aside from that - it's just obvious for anyone with minimal knowledge of how those devices work. All DS consoles have full GBA hardware inside, because it's used as the secondary processor in that console and without it no DS games would work. At all, and yes, even DSi has it. To run DS games, all 3DS consoles must have full DS hardware inside. So for Ambassador games Nintendo simply took the already existing DS sandboxing and tricked it to think that it has just ran a GBA game from Slot 2. That's the reason the games run without any additional functionality, and that 3DS wireless communications shut down when you run them. Also when you quit, just like with DS games, a full reboot into native 3DS mode occurs, as opposed to just closing the emulator.
Also as I've said earlier - 3DS is not powerful enough to emulate GBA in software. This is really the only way those games would work, but still it makes more sense than releasing them on the Wii U. But now I'm really repeating myself...
Actually what @Gold and @Kifa write seems to be true. And it should really be spread as common knowledge. I didn't know about it either, but it is really interesting and good to know. That's probably why GBA games were released as Ambassador rewards and would not be charged for. They are an inferior product in a way, because you don't have all 3DS features available.
Will definitely be downloading this. Hope they release the DS one aswell, which would make sense on the wii u.
Have they indicated what price try will sell these at???
Hope Golden Sun gets a release too
This is a handheld game for a reason. Why on earth would they not put it out on 3DS VC?
Can't wait to download and play Advance Wars again!!! I never could beat it,..... of course, I can't beat any strat rpg ;____;
Apparently, Reggie saw my earlier post and decided to shut me up.
Why not on 3DS ?
Japan, lucky as usual, will get both Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising for the same price as we will get the former because it was released on a combo-cartridge in Japan. Not to mention AW2 isn't even confirmed for VC at this point. :/
@Geonjaha
True, people could buy a GBA and the game from some source. But having GBA games available on the Wii U is an extra incentive that may convince those tempted on whether a Wii U is worth it or not to get a Wii U. But I do see your side of the theory and I hadn't thought of that. Good point.
