Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 2.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Varkster

@eaglebob345 It's a shame you have no interest in Blue Lions and Golden Deer, after my playthrough of Black Eagles I was surprised to find how much effort was put into the other characters, Dimitri and Claude are infinitely interesting and their group arguably has more going for them than some of Edelgard's house.

Blue Lions has probably the most tragic story of the three and it's full of intricacies I honestly wasn't expecting from a Fire Emblem game.

Re: Monolith Soft Announces "Large Expansion" As Work On Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Continues

Varkster

@RetiredR Saying trash like "you're cringe" and criticising the way a person types isn't the way to make your opinion or argument more valid.

Monolith Soft games may not be everybody's cup of tea but character and story writing are not one of the company's weaknesses. You also took a jab at their design, however Xenoblade Chronicles was and still is praised for being visually stunning years later.

If you're talking about designs from the second game, that can be blamed on the fact that there were too many designers on-board which made the quality less consistent.

Monolith Soft is an ambitious company with a lot of hugely talented staff. You are in the wrong here. If you'd admit that your opinion is very bizarre and unpopular that would be less offensive instead of saying sh*t like "I'm not a weeb so I don't like them" which is really pathetic jabs at people in this community for no particular reason.

Re: Capcom's Monster Hunter Rise Has Now Sold Six Million Copies Worldwide

Varkster

@Rosona Rise's sales are definitely more impressive, since World was available on two consoles at the same time and the PS4 at the time had a much bigger install base.

I believe I also recall World having discounts on the PS store not too long after first release.

The PC version for World came much later, though. It wasn't released at the same time as the home console versions.

I'd imagine Rise probably might have a longer evergreen value on the Switch and maintain the good sales since the series is much more popular on handhelds in Japan and the steady update roadmap looks very promising.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 may also push sales forward by a chunk when it comes out because it could drive newcomers to the series who aren't used to the genre.

It's also worth noting that World was revealed at an E3 presentation which brought a lot more publicity to it and it had the hype behind it that it was finally a renewed Monster Hunter with major QOL improvements to bring newer players in. Rise on the other hand doesn't have that privilege of being the new 'grand' reveal.

A lot of the success of Rise is undoubtedly thanks to the huge success of Monster Hunter World. I doubt we would be seeing such great numbers or a Hollywood movie for the series if not for World.

Re: Capcom's Monster Hunter Rise Has Now Sold Six Million Copies Worldwide

Varkster

Hopefully the huge success will warrant the amazing monthly update trend. At this rate Rise could possibly reach a 60 large monster mark at the end of its lifecycle, not including the inevitable G-rank expansion.

I might even bother investing into the cosmetics just as a thank you for a high quality third party game which clearly had tons of effort put into it.

Re: Super Seducer 1 & 2 Refused By Nintendo Due To "Explicit Content"

Varkster

@horizoniki You clearly missed the part of the comment where I said I laughed watching someone play it. I think the game is hilarious but I don't like the creator and I don't think the game deserves a spot on the eShop.

Considering the creator openly attacks other creators on social media and sh*t talks anyone criticising his games doesn't give him much likeability especially when the games he made are literal fuel for starting fires on the internet. He's a smart manipulator trying to make as much money and garner as much attention off his garbage as he can.

Everyone in this comment section should get off their high horse with their "can't you take a joke" bullsh*t. The comment section is for opinions and I gave mine. Instead of attacking mine make up your own.

Re: Super Seducer 1 & 2 Refused By Nintendo Due To "Explicit Content"

Varkster

There is a scene in this game where pretending that you're a homosexual is the correct answer to get a woman to like you. Read that again and tell me that there's no problem and all this hate is undeserved.

I watched Matt McMuscles play it with his wife on YouTube and it's a hell of a laugh but I do NOT think this game should be allowed on the eShop. There are so many problems with the game I don't even know where to start.

This is NOT a dating sim, don't get misinformed. This is a selection of answers you have to choose to get a girl you find attractive to have sex with you. There isn't romance here, this all plays out like a terrible start to a porno.

The guy who is in charge is absolutely awkward and though he seems quite self aware in real life he still has an unpleasant aura about him.

Re: Review: Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - RPG Action That Really Shows Its Age

Varkster

@Mauzuri Oh boy, this one gave me a headache...let's roll through your little arguments.

1. Actual reward for exploring? I don't know what planet you live on if you didn't find Breath of the Wild exploring rewarding. There are bits and pieces which help you with character progression as well as hundreds of secrets to find on every corner in a genuinely lived in, breathing world that you can interact with. In Kingdoms of Amalur you have a very basic open world designed in line with other action RPGs at the time which doesn't fundamentally change anything about the open world genre. You better back up your points instead of just throwing them out and not giving any evidence whatsoever. It just makes you look extremely biased and intolerable.

2. Again, very objective opinion. Breath of the Wild had a very minimalistic soundtrack because the focus of the "sounds" you were meant to experience while exploring were the WILD itself, you're meant to be immersed in the experience. That's why Nintendo intentionally didn't decide they needed another "Hyrule Field" soundtrack to follow your every step. Again, you're not giving a single example which shows lack of judgement and obvious bias.

3. This one is just bizarre. I don't understand what you mean by 'trackable' and 'do-able'. Zelda have been more vague with their quest marks on the map but this was heavily seen as a large positive by most players. It's why most players also prefer Morrowind's quest design over Skyrim's and Oblivion's. If you like your hand held during your gameplay, sure, that's you.

4. Again another odd choice to criticize this, also doesn't have anything to do with the topic of "how this game did more for the open world genre than Breath of the Wild". You're weird.

5. What are these arguments anymore? There are chests in Zelda, of varying equipment, sure they may not be randomized but that again is not a negative. That's your preference, most people would disagree with this as well, I will again reference you to Morrowind's comparisons to Skyrim.

5. Side stories....okay you're just reaching now.

On the contrary to your arguments let me present you with an actually valid one and see if you can maybe debunk it - the reason Breath of the Wild did more for the open world genre is because it presented the players with a very large, interesting and beautiful landscape and for all intends and purposes let you play around with it to a degree of freedom that made it almost borderline like an immersive sim. If you're interested in that genre I suggest looking up some games and why they're loved as much as they are. The game had an excessive amount of tools you could mess around with, there was fire, there were physics, little details which a player could simply not even experience if he/she doesn't experiment with the tools provided and think outside the box, there were many different solutions to any one problem which made this open world a much more interesting one than one we have seen before with a big area and a bunch of quest marks where you have to constantly adhere to the rules the game sets and not the rules that you set. This made Zelda stand out from Witcher, Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur, Assassin's Creed, etc. It presented an open world not previously seen in games and set the foundation for many 'imitators' or games inspired by it. What has Kingdoms of Amalur done for the open world genre other than being a standard generic fantasy RPG with uninspired writing and decent combat?

So in conclusion, no, you needn't go on, because you genuinely struggled to find any arguments to support your asinine statement. I know you're not gonna retract it and honestly I don't care if you do, but please next time you present an argument like this care to actually make sense and support whatever you're saying. Have a nice day.

Re: Review: Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - RPG Action That Really Shows Its Age

Varkster

I'm actually very confused with what people find so good about this game. The combat is fun, yes, but it's no Bayonetta when it comes to depth. The quest design is repetitive and overall the writing is cookie cutter fantasy stuff with no real originality. Same goes to the art-style, many just call it a WoW clone and I don't see how that's a good thing.

After playing RPGs like Dragon Age Origins, Baldur's Gate 2 and KOTOR 2 you see how the standard for writing in video games that consider themselves 'RPGs' should look like. To me the loop in this game is little more than that of a looter shooter like Borderlands. To others this may be very appealing and I understand that, but to me this is bland and every time I pick the game up I struggle to put more than 15 hours into it.

This may be a hidden gem for some people and yeah, it's a decent game, but the amount of praise it's getting from people in this comment section greatly confuses me.

@Mauzuri Do explain how this game does 'more' for the open world genre than Breath of the Wild. Lol.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Gearing Up For Record Switch Sales This Year

Varkster

@Strumpan I think E3 is a little too close to be announcing a summer title, honestly. Nintendo like to reveal stuff in April or May and then spend a segment on it at the E3.

I think they did that with a few games so far, not to mention I dont feel Nintendo's E3 presentations nowadays are much stronger with announcements than their normal Directs, they tend to spread them out.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Gearing Up For Record Switch Sales This Year

Varkster

To be fair I think the start of the year Nintendo Direct was just a sign of more Directs to follow, I wouldn't be surprised if we get one in April showcasing one big game to release in Summer plus announcing some neat Zelda stuff.

The lack of recent announcements may have been a little disheartening but I doubt Nintendo is planning to leave this year feeling empty with the massive momentum they will pick up when Monster Hunter: Rise comes out.

That game will be massive in both Japan and the West.

Re: Nintendo Hiring Splatoon 3 Level Designer To Renovate "Existing" Stages

Varkster

@MS7000 I think Splatoon deserves a sequel because there actually is a quite significant portion of the game that is 'story mode' for single player and each game builds on top of the previous one with its world and lore (as funny as that may sound).

The reason people aren't as excited for, say, Overwatch 2 is because the game is entirely multiplayer which diminishes the value of a sequel.

In the trailer they showed a segment which is clearly teasing an expanded single player campaign for Splatoon 3. In a way what you're saying makes sense but I feel you only see it that way because the majority of Splatoon players focus primarily on the online multiplayer.

It's like saying instead of a Call of Duty installment every year they should just be releasing map packs. Keep in mind in Splatoon's case it has actually been 5. I'm certain after Splatoon 3 and its inevitable major expansions the team will decide on working on another franchise.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei II Is Being Added To Japan's NSO Super Famicom Collection

Varkster

@JR150 You never know with Atlus honestly. SMT is big in Japan but Persona is big in the west. Their Trauma series were were pretty much invisible in Japan but sold quite well in the west.

I think all it takes SMT to get into the mainstream is word of mouth and small upgrades to appeal it to a western audience, I don't think it's impossible. Given the Switch's large popularity if the marketing is done well and the game is fantastic, it could potentially reach those levels. The time it's taking to develop is giving me high hopes but time will tell.

Persona didn't reach mass appeal until P4. I don't think SMT can't do the same. Persona's only real advantage is that it's set in a much more grounded universe and deals with much more personal stories which makes it more relatable.

Re: Video: Ahead Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2, We Discuss What Makes The Original So Special

Varkster

I understand there may be elements people dislike in this game or elements that are 'unorthodox' to a mainline Zelda, but God people need to stop acting 'woke' and 'cool' by hating on it and undermining how much of a masterpiece this game actually was.

It came out in a time where open world games were around every corner and followed absolutely the same formula over and over. This game came and shattered that formula and finally tried something new. It was hard for me to go back and play other open world games after Breath of the Wild because this game was just on a completely different level.

It may not be perfect, but anyone who says that Nintendo didn't make something amazing here is just lying to themselves. You may not appreciate it as much as others but acknowledge that 95% of people loved it much more than anything else released in recent years.

I think Breath of the Wild 2 can only improve from here on out.

Re: Soapbox: When Is The Next 'Big' Nintendo Direct? Oh, Does It Really Matter Anymore?

Varkster

@E1000 I'm responding to all recent comments in general, not just this thread. It's been a trend for nearly a year now that for some reason the Switch is about to become obsolete and Nintendo has no major releases planned for it, I find it to be a very ridiculous thought so I put it into one big ranting paragraph. Sorry if it came off as very condescending, I'm just an assh*le.

Re: Soapbox: When Is The Next 'Big' Nintendo Direct? Oh, Does It Really Matter Anymore?

Varkster

What is up with people saying that Metroid Prime 4 is for the next gen console and the Switch is getting a replacement?

Do you guys know how shareholders work, do you guys know how any company works at all? This comment section is a ridiculous mess to read. The Switch is the best selling system on the market, if Nintendo were to abandon it's user base and now have a steady release schedule planned for its customers their shareholders would absolutely demolish them just like they demolished CD Projekt Red recently over Cyberpunk 2077, or much worse.

Nintendo have said many times themselves that the Switch is here to stay for a long time, these are their words. When a company publically says these kinds of things they are held up for it because it's really easy to get sued or lose a massive amount of value if they didn't just stick to their own promises. To put it in perspective with my previous example, because of Cyberpunk 2077 and how much they lied about in their previews of the game, CD Projekt lost over half of their stock value. That's over one game. A console is a significantly larger investment than just one game, if Nintendo were to just outright come out and say "we lied here's your next system, forget the Switch" they would find themselves in a very bad situation.

Metroid Prime 4 was announced for the Switch. It wasn't announced for the next system therefore it's coming out for the Switch, pretty sturdy logic right? At worst it will release like Breath of the Wild - on both systems, although something tells me the next console will just be a revision of the Switch.

It's ludicrous to expect Nintendo to make a brick console like the others. I've seen these idiotic complaints on this website that it's 'unacceptable' that Nintendo isn't doing 4K and 60fps these days, but like, you guys do realise you're comparing a refrigerator of specs to a f***ing tablet right?

My brain cells decrease so often when I scroll through some of these comment sections. Most of the time I leave it alone and don't say anything, but God, the entitlement and ignorance sometimes is appalling.

Edit: to avoid any major confusion this isn't a reply to people on this particular thread only. This is in response to many comments I've seen on this website over the past year or so.

Re: UK Charts: Animal Crossing Top Again As Switch Software Jumps 123% Compared To The Same Week Last Year

Varkster

Animal Crossing about to beat Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the number one spot on the Switch, no wonder Nintendo never lowers the prices for their games, they're quite literally endless profits.

Surprised to see the high sales come out of the UK of all places, I thought people there only played COD, FIFA and GTA. Then again, I'm from Australia, we only play with boomerangs and didgeridoos.

Re: Free Trial Of Nintendo Switch Online Coincides With Monster Hunter Demo

Varkster

@Bydlak I decided to help out and find it for you.

When you get in the demo, go to Options then select Camera. There is an option there that says "Camera Controls" and it should be set to Type 1, if you switch it over, read the description at the bottom, you can invert the X axis, the Y axis or both.

It's a bit of an obscure thing, but what can you do, it's Monster Hunter.

Re: The Switch Has Now Sold More Units Than The 3DS

Varkster

This is actually insane, and goes to show how well a console can perform if the concept is solid and the lineup of first party games is strong. No matter how much people may make fun of the games output on Switch, it has absolutely the most diverse range of exclusives and sheer numbers of exclusives in general.

It's not really hard to believe that this console will beat the Wii anymore, I will actually be surprised if it doesn't given the games we know are coming. It's really nice to see Nintendo go complete reverse since the Wii U days. If 2021 has a strong lineup of games (since we know of so many games with no release date) then Switch should perform even better than last year despite the Animal Crossing craze.

Re: Capcom Wants To Know What You Thought About Its Monster Hunter Rise Digital Event

Varkster

I'm going to guess that next month we will get a final presentation where they will finally reveal details on what the rampage entails and show off the new volcanic area.

I really hope that they don't end up showing too much, however. Everything they revealed so far is amazing and the new monster animations, in some cases even moves, all of this is very exciting but I know how Japan seems to be with spoilers (a.k.a. most of the time they don't care about spoiling anything — look at the Nier: Automata b-roll before even pressing start, it shows you pretty much everything in the game).

I'm expecting around 50 monsters at launch, it may seem like a lot but they already have all of these skeletons in the game and it wouldn't be farfetched to assume they're gonna try and go all out to push this game further. I just hope they keep a bunch of surprises until release.

As for the demo - god, this game looks and controls fantastic. I haven't tried it on my TV yet but handheld it runs very well with no hiccups and everything is colorful and vibrant. It's just fun to move around, as I thought the mobility in this game does feel very good, I think it would be very difficult going back to something like Monster Hunter Gen U. I also think it's ingenious to link the skills system to the mobility. Wirebugs being the limit on using the special moves means that you can't just abuse skills and dodge out of the way at the same time. It took a little getting used to the controls but I already killed Mizutsune a couple times with different weapons and it sure feels great. I also love the customization in the options and shortcuts, there's so much freedom for the player to set everything up as best as they can and the new animations are so pleasant to look at. I was a little worried that this world would feel kind of empty when running through it, but no, around every corner there is some endemic life or some hostile creature to find. It's not just you against the big tough monster, there's a lot of things everywhere to collect and climb. I like the whole Breath of the Wild mentality where if you climb a high hill, there's probably something there to reward you. It's not going to be like it is in other games like Assassin's Creed where you climb something and get nothing for it.

Overall I feel very good about this game, and it has potential to be the best Monster Hunter yet. They keep improving on the formula with every entry and it's very impressive just how solid the vision of the developers are and how well they realize them. There aren't many developers I can say the same about (CD Projekt Red is one recent example of the opposite).

These presentations are perfectly paced and I hope to see many more like this in the future, just not specifically about this game, please leave some surprises. I think the next game I want to see shown off in this format is Monster Hunter Stories 2, but it's a little more difficult since that one is a full blown story-based RPG.

Re: Nintendo Paid "Around $6 Million" For Monster Hunter Rise's Timed Exclusivity On Switch

Varkster

This game was already said to have been designed specifically for the Switch for the past 4 years by the developers of the portable Monster Hunter series, this has been reported in many places and was actually coming from Capcom developers themselves.

I don't understand why we're now reporting on leaks which are leading towards the idea that this wasn't, in fact, the case, and the game was slated for other platforms. PS4 and Xbox are unlikely to get this game because they have the World series, and I'm not so sure Capcom will want this game to even release on the PC as it would be a strange push/pull between the World series and Rise.

Rise is a completely different game, I don't see why people seem so adamant that it should head to other systems when the games specifically catered towards those systems and players are coming out later.

I wouldn't be surprised if World 2 is already 1-2 years from reveal, I don't find this source all that "trustworthy". It's also odd how this isn't at all listed under "rumors", when I clicked this article I expected real quotes from Capcom or Nintendo employees, not some Twitter rumor fueled post. Also, why the hell would the documents list very specific plans on how Nintendo had negotiated full exclusivity? Seems awfully convenient for a sh*tpost to get this kind of information.

If, in fact, these documents are still valid and real, I wouldn't be surprised for there to be seriously big changes to this release formula and legal actions taken from both Nintendo and Capcom.

Re: Video: Another Famous Zelda Location Returns In Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity

Varkster

@alexybubble It's also just a nice throwback, it doesn't have to inherently fit into the timeline. You can easily sidetrack canon arguments by saying 'oh it's just a place that looks similar to this other location'.

Developers put easter eggs into games all the time as a way to reward long time players or people who play other franchises. God forbid this meaning all easter eggs are canon, because that would mean Bayonetta is set in the same universe as The Legend of Zelda, Mario and Metroid and is actually an alter ego of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Re: Warner Bros. Was Worried Mortal Kombat 11 Wouldn't Be "Nintendo-Friendly"

Varkster

It's really bothersome that in 2020 publishers have this idiotic mentality.

From personal experience most people that own a Switch, ESPECIALLY playing games like Mario are the 'mature' audience. Playing Mario in public just shows that you're not an insecure child and are confident not to be judged by what you play on a damn gaming console.

The whole "mature games for mature gamers" is honestly a fad that has survived for way too long. Looking at statistics, the Call of Duty fanbase consists of mostly kids.

Gaming is a medium for people, each with their own preferences. Just like there are adults going to see children's superhero movies and Pixar films, there are people who buy and play Mario. It doesn't mean that the audience is limited to those types of games.

Just because I like to throw Pikmin at apples doesn't mean I don't like to boot up a horror game every now and then.

Ugh. Just a frustrating mentality, honestly.
