With the start of a week comes the European Nintendo Download Update details. This time around Nintendo isn't aiming to overwhelm us with options (OK, that's a generous interpretation) but there are some tempting options nevertheless. We have two enticing retail releases on 3DS, along with a demo, DLC, some discounts and neat HOME Themes. Let's get to it.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Bombing Bastards (Sanuk Games, €4.99/ £4.49 until 25th February, normally €6.99 / £5.99)
Spot the Differences: Party! (Sanuk Games, €2.99/ £2.69 until 25th February, normally €5.00 / £4.49)
Wicked Monsters Blast! HD PLUS (Corecell, €2.99/ £2.69 until 3rd March, normally €7.99 / £7.19)
Wii U Retail Demo
LEGO Marvel's Avengers (WB Games, free)
3DS Retail Download
Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (Nintendo, €39.99/ £34.99) - This spin-off series continues on 3DS with 20 'mon to choose from at the start and the inclusion of all known Pokémon (720?!) to find and interact with. In many respects this delivers more of the same for the series, which doesn't have to be considered a bad thing; we gave this a modest recommendation in our Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon review. Available from 19th February, free 'Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon Bonus Theme' 3DS HOME Theme with all purchases until 14th April.
Return to PopoloCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale (Marvelous, €34.99/ £29.99) - This rather appealing title is a crossover that combines the world of PopoloCrois - a popular fantasy manga series by Tamori Yousuke that's spawned anime adaptations and a half-dozen RPGs on Playstation platforms - with the farming fun of Story of Seasons, XSEED's recent rebranding of the long-running Bokujō Monogatari/Harvest Moon series. We're working on a review, but in the meantime you can check out our previous first impressions and interview with the game's localisation specialist.
3DS Retail DLC
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight: Ultimate Feathered Warrior (NIS America, free until 25th February, then €2.49 / £2.29)
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight: Winter's Harbinger (NIS America, free until 25th February, then €2.49 / £2.29)
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight: Wanted: Lucky Bud (NIS America, €1.99 / £1.79)
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
AeternoBlade (Corecell, €7.99/ £7.19 until 3rd March, normally €14.99 / £13.50)
Aqua Moto Racing 3D (ZordixAB, €3.99/ £3.59 until 25th February, normally €7.99 / £7.19)
Demon King Box (CIRCLE Entertainment, €2.99/ £2.39 until 3rd March, normally €3.99 / £3.19)
Wakedas (CIRCLE Entertainment, €1.99/ £1.69 until 3rd March, normally €2.99 / £2.49)
Talking Phrasebook - 7 Languages (Sanuk Games, €2.99/ £2.69 until 25th February, normally €4.99 / £4.49)
3DS HOME Themes
Dreamcast (SEGA, €1.79/ £1.59)
Hi-Tech Sega (SEGA, €1.79/ £1.59)
SEGA Saturn (SEGA, €1.79/ £1.59)
Pokémon: Champion Steven (Nintendo, €1.99/ £1.79)
That's your lot for Europe this week - let us know what you plan to download in the poll and comments below.

Direct this week!!!!!!!!!
Dreamcast theme!
Anyway this definitely feels like Direct week.
Is Return to Popolocrois available physically in Europe? This game looks great and I loved the original Popolocrois and I love Harvest Moon!
Nothing new for the Wii U! What happened?
Nothing for me.
@ThomasBW84
So featured/important news such as weekly downloads aren't pinned at the headline anymore? Whyyyyy!?
Still no Minecraft story mode my son will not be happy. ..
I think if there was gonna be a direct this week we'd would have heard by now
@JH64
I hope so! Need Skyward Sword VC with promo if you go digital on TP HD.
Also
Miitomo and My Nintendo Account should be in there since pre-registration starts on the 17th?
Wow that is real awful pickings but NO this does not immediately mean there will be a Nintendo Direct. Though with Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD on the horizon and other titles, both known and apparently some not known, it is time we got a Direct.
@Splatburst Majora's Mask would probably be more likely for the promotion
@Mister_Wu A Direct is what many are speculating will happen.
@dethmart They've announced directs with only a day in advance (sometimes with even less advance notice). It's still not totally out of the question.
It makes sense, too. Nintendo Account registration and Miitomo registration is supposed to start this week. I would think they'd want as many people as possible to know about those. Not to mention, we need some crucial updates on Zelda U, Star Fox Zero, and Metroid Prime Federation Force. We've largely been kept in the dark about them, and with rumors of another Star Fox delay flying around, I imagine they'd want to address that. Among other things they could talk about, I'd say this week is highly likely for a Direct to happen.
@stocko I had the same wish, but sadly... " This product is not yet available. The game will be released on Q1 2016 only on Nintendo eShop. " (marvelous europe)
Any american can say if there is a cartridge planned there?
edit: funny thing, they dare classify it as a "retail download".
I fancy Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon but not sure I can justify the spend.......decisions decisions
@Splatburst I'm not sure what you mean, it's pinned in the top section on my page! The 'Latest News' section underneath is purely chronological though.
I'll get the retail version of Pokemon on Friday.
Anyone got a link to the Steven Stone 3DS theme? Wanna see how it looks before I buy it.
@Rei Seems like NA will get a physical release of the game.
@ThomasBW84
It's not pinned on mobile like it used to. Magearna article is on top of it.
SMB3 Advance IS turning into our Zero Mission...sigh...
...except if there's a Direct this week! There's still hope.
Fervently looking forward to Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon here.
It won't be a download though, I got the physical game on its way, it actually shipped on Sunday which was a nice surprise!
Horrible week. Just awful.
Crikey that's a poor showing.
Will vainly hope for a half term Ninty direct with lots of downloadables as soon as the show is over...
Direct this week for sure.I can't recall any other weeks where the Wii U got nothing new that wasn't followed with a Direct.I'll predict Direct for Thursday with TP and Starfox info (possibly a delay in Starfox case) ,a trailer for Mario & Friends with more amiibo on the way, MyNintendo details, then Mother 3 to be available on Eshop following the Direct, possibly Mario & Friends too.Pretty uninspiring but there you go!
Sega 3DS home themes, ahhhhh finally going to get Dreamcast and Saturn themes for my 3DS! Also definitely getting that hi tech one as well
Thank you Sega!
Dreamcast theme, possible Nintendo Direct...?
Shenmue 1 & 2 confirmed for Wii U!!
Ahhh, if only...
Definitely getting Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon this week digitally . (I prefer to have my RPGs digitally, so I can play it whenever I want more easily).
As for the Nintendo Direct talk here, I agree that we will likely get a Nintendo Direct this week, if not then in March or April :+).
Discount EO 1 already!
Embarrassing week of games, especially so for Wii U. Not a single game and just 3 measly discounts on mediocre indie games. Pathetic! There'd better be a Direct this week to justify this. Just seen the UK charts released this morning. More embarrassment, another week with not a single Nintendo game in the Top 40. Surely Nintendo have a marketing department, I'd say it's an empty office with just a hamster going round and round on a wheel.
@manu0 I disagree, there's some key things to remember.
. Zero Mission is identical in all regions in terms of gameplay
. SMA4 has e-reader levels which are off limits in some regions for the original GBA cart
. In Japan, everything's available
. In NA, some e-reader levels are unavailable
. In EU, no e-reader levels are present because the e-reader didn't exist in EU.
If the e-reader levels come to EU, that announcement is Direct worthy. If they don't come, there's no point in the game even being released in EU.
@Grumblevolcano I know all of that and none of that matters, because Nintendo has no problem with releasing US ROMs in Europe, as we have seen countless times.
@manu0 It does matter because releasing the US version would mean it's the first time ever that EU will be able to play those levels. Hence it's something you'd want to hype up in a Direct. Also, just a warning that not all the GBA games we've received have been the NA version so there's still a chance EU will blocked from the e-reader levels because of the past.
@eltomo
I'm trying to locate some sailors... No reason, I just want to talk to them. Do you know of a place where sailors hang out?
@manu0 We're still waiting on SMA 1 and 2 too so I'd imagine if and when they do come it will be in the order they released. We do have SM3 already though but since that's really a Yoshi game that doesn't count.
@Grumblevolcano The EU version of Super Mario Advance 4 is perfectly capable of running the eReader Levels. Implanting the changes from the US to the EU will be a piece of cake, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Will buy AeternoBlade, while it's on discount. Plus that Sega Dreamcast Theme!
Dreamcast @ Saturn theme for me. How about following these up with VC games?
I'm currently finishing up my Return to PopoloCrois review. Aside from that, it's some real slim pickings this week.
@stocko
It's eShop only in Europe. Physically in NA which is sad. :/
I'll be sure to grab the EO2U DLC. I'm enjoying the game a lot more than the first Untold. The characters are a lot more fun.
@Splatburst Ah, I see what you mean, I can pass that feedback on.
@Humphries90 @rei Sign looks like I will be waiting for a sale then. This is the second time marvelous have done this
Here's hoping that Bombing Bastards will finally be released in the Australian eShop to coincide with the discount… (it was IARC rated some time ago)
Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon at last! I cannot wait! Getting this on release day.
Super Mystery Dungeon for me this week - a retail copy, that is. Might check out that Lego Avengers demo, too.
Yesssss, Saturn/Dreamcast theme for me, finally!
Huh... pretty disappointing. Really hoping for a Direct now.
Jesus Christ Nintendo is getting even weaker.
RELEASE SOMETHING!!!!!!!
it is a sad state of affairs where the only thing worth buying is a £1.50 theme
I'd love a new Direct, hopefully putting the rumours of a Star Fox delay to bed, giving new footage of Zelda U, and some decent titles available to download at the end of the direct. If this is all we get this week though, that's fine by me as Street Fighter V is going to take over a significant part of my gaming time, following seven great years with Street Fighter IV and it's various incarnations.
a dreamcast home theme? wow.
not paying money for background images though
A Direct would be fun. I'd like to hear more about the new account system.
Worst week in ages,Its like Nintendo has forgot the virtual console exists.
I may as well try the Lego Avengers demo this week. Otherwise, there's nothing that interests me.
My Nintendo is due soon isn't it, perhaps they're gearing up for a sales bonanza at launch...
(Please be gearing up for a sales bonanza at launch)
I got 4 Wii U games on sale this weekend: Abe's Oddysee, Shadow Puppeteer, Chariot, and Race The Sun, along with The Binding of Isaac Rebirth (I know I'm late). After such a bulk of good/great games, I obviously have enough to play at the moment.
These sparse weeks are always an opportunity to get some backlog done or checking for older games skipped. And then there's always the possibility of Nintendo keeping a surprise release.
Btw, what about that Tiny Thief game? When's Nintendo going to publish that outside of Japan?
Looks light in content, but all the discounts from last week are still valid so I suppose there's still that. Plus, it's an expensive time of year with all the RPG goodness - I could do with a break to let my wallet refill.
Would like a direct too. Maybe Wednesday, with pre-registration for Miitomo and Nintendo Account "to follow this broadcast"? Who knows? This is Nintendo logic we're trying to second guess.
'It can't get any worse', I said.
I'm interested in Return to PoPoloCrois, but I'm not interested in paying full whack for a digi only game that I'd much rather have a physical copy of, so they'll have to discount that price a bit before I jump in.
So nothing new for me this week. But I've got a massive backlog so I'm not really too bothered.
Oh man, I hope no VC in EU this week doesn't mean NA will suffer the same fate on Thursday. We have so much to catch up on VC... Mario Kart 64, Mario RPG, Kirby Mass Attack, Zelda DS, Mario 64 DS, Startropics... And what's taking Yoshi's Cookie so long to come out?
There's nothing for me this week. Ah well.
Reading the comments here actually makes me wonder if there really are people out there who can spend money on games every single week. I got EO2U this week and Bravely Second is up next week. I honestly don't have money or time to spend on much more than that.
I suppose months of nothing would make people antsy for new things, but I don't get the feeling that has happened lately?
This would make a good week for NoA to catch up.
@CapricornDavid When there are so few games released and even what's released is mostly crap, there's simply nothing to buy.
Wii U's death is approaching.
I just want to say that I am absolutely jealous that you get to play PopoloCrois sooner than us over here. I know I know; there's things we get sooner than you too but that is one game that I have very high hopes for. I absolutely cannot wait to play it and I hope it's at the very least a sleeper hit.
Can't wait for a review
Nice week, Europe! Have a good week everyone.
Lol they didn't put VC games up, and I thought NOA was bad.
Not alot this week wonder if anything better is coming next week. Just Lego Avengers demo for me this time.
PSMD for me this week, been really looking forward to it the last few months.
Still working my way through Bravely Default though so will probably wait to get my paws into PSMD til that's finished. Still, got it pre-ordered for sub £25 off Amazon, so pretty happy there.
Just Bravely Second CE to go next week & then my wallet can take a break til Stella Glow.
Will keep an eye on Return to Popo' too as it does look awesome with the mix of RF, FL & HM elements. Not a fan of digital in general but for £15-20 in a sale, I'll may bite.
@Mahe But last week alone were so many new games, discounts, DLC, high-profile demos, and even some (apparently much requested) VC releases. Was there really nothing amongst all that that you'd want to play?
Hopefully, Nintendo of America will still release some great VC games this week.
That Popolocrois game seems interesting, but I have no idea what to expect. Seems like the kind of game that would benefit massively from a demo...
@TromaDogg @stocko I suppose I will import the game if it is not too expensive then, not gonna link a game with a console (SMTIV was my last error). Those manners are quite annoying... SMTIV and Code of Princess were already exclusive like that, and back then, I did not know I could play them on my european console.
@Shepdawg1
To you, this seems to be a Direct announcement. To Americans, this is just another Tues..er..Thursday
What will you be downloading this week? You can select up to seven options.
Lol.
Another p00p week, thanks Nintendo.
I want Mario Kart 64 and/or Animal Crossing Wild World and/or Super Mario RPG this week.
In a moment of madness I'm considering Spot The Differences: Party as I game to play with the missus when I can drag her away from Animal Crossing: New Leaf!
Looks like the new Sega 3DS Themes didn't make it.
@JH64 No direct this week
Murica gets FE and we get no word on it. Thats a bit dry.
