Re: One-On-One Battles Could Come To Pokémon GO In The Future

TravinoEXE

First and foremost i'd love to see the new tracking system roll out to everyone. It's frustrating not being able to properly track anything without aid of outside maps and the like. I refuse to use them most of the time but I'd be a liar if I claimed that I haven't opened it up to catch something that I have never seen before.

After that, give me trading, then give me Gen 2. Local battles would be fun, but it's not really at the top of my personal priority list. When it comes to the games, I've always been more of a collector, though I've recently become interested in competitive battling.

Re: Random: Walking 10km With Pikachu As Your Buddy Creates A Stronger Bond In Pokémon GO

TravinoEXE

@Kalmaro Rooted users are the most likely to use cheating services, though, that's the point of them doing that. It's like getting upset for teachers banning headphones during tests in school and being like 'well I'm just listening to music, that's not fair' when it's a high possibility you could have a buddy helping you out. Sure, maybe you aren't cheating, but the playing field has to be as level as possible.

Re: Buddy Pokémon Arrive in GO Update as Niantic Continues to Target "Bots and Scrapers"

TravinoEXE

@Crimzonlogic Jailbreaking is something you have to go through an extensive process to do, and it basically let's you use programs and applications say on an iPhone that normally only Android users would have. It caused a lot of problems for Pokemon Go at launch because people were getting the game that way when t hadn't been released on iPhone yet.

Jailbreaking is technically legal (though oddly enough, illegal only on iPads for some reason) but it's incredibly risky to do and will void your iPhone warranty. You'd know you have a Jailbroken phone because it takes a fair amount of work to do so and can't be done accidentally.

You should be fine!

Rooting I'm not so sure about but I'm pretty sure it's the same thing wherein it's a process you have to purposely go through and doesn't just happen for no reason.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Has Been Delayed To 2018

TravinoEXE

Postpone it to 2020 for all I care. Just communicate with your backers, and make a damn good game.

2018 now has a game I'm most excited for. It's definitely sad that it's being delayed a full year, and it makes me sad that my physical rewards will have to wait that long as well, but my hype for the game is unchanged. Take your time, Iga, make something worth the wait.

Re: Different Time Periods, New Pokémon and Snap-style Mode Confirmed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

TravinoEXE

Type: Null is not a translation error.

I have a little theory. Reading Pokemon's page for Type: Null, it is a chimera Pokemon made by man to battle against certain mythological Pokemon. And looking at its design, I'd wager that it was man's attempt at creating Arceus. The ring around the helmet's base looks a lot like the rings on Arceus' waist.

My guess is that we'll get more Type:s - one for each type. Maybe you'll give it an item to change its type, maybe you'll be able to actually make one of your own somehow.

But the alchemical theme in this game is becoming a lot more apparent. And I'm hype as hell for that.

Re: Check Out Giga Wrecker, a New Puzzle Platformer from Game Freak

TravinoEXE

The art style is completely gorgeous, but the animations of the characters are awful and stiff. They remind me of that old browser based flash game Adventure Quest. Which to me, is a shame to give such beautiful artwork no actual animations, only tweens

The game itself looks interesting and I'm down to check it out, but maybe after it's fully released. I'm sure Game Freak will finish the game and all but I've had a string of really bad luck with early access titles, so I'm wary.

Re: Pokémon Uranium is the Latest Ambitious Fan-Made Game to Run The Gauntlet

TravinoEXE

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I've been waiting for the full release of this and of course it comes out while I'm out of town and don't have a computer. It'll be impossible to find by the time I get back.

NintendoLife, I love your intentions in spreading the word about fan-made games but a news site as big as yours reporting on them is a death sentence for those games.

I understand completely that these games can hurt bigger companies and all that jazz but I love seeing the creativity people have and how they utilize it to make something special of an IP they love.

I really want to play this. I've been waiting for ages for the full release :c

Re: Niantic Issues a New Pokémon GO Update

TravinoEXE

Can anyone give any insight on how exactly the new tab works? Does the grass become animated if you're close, or is it just generally more accurate in showing the order of Pokemon from closest to farthest?

Definitely a step in the right direction, though. The tall grass is so iconic in the games, implementing this tab with active shaking grass onscreen would be real neat.

Like imagine a tuft of grass onscreen at the same distance as gums and spikes tops can generate. The grass is wiggling actively but you can't see what Pokemon is underneath it. Once you get within range, one of two things happens - either you tap the grass and find out what's there, or the Pokemon pops out the moment you're in range. I'd prefer the latter but either way is cool and I hope they go that route.

Re: Niantic Explains Decision to Stop Unofficial Apps From Accessing Pokémon GO's Servers

TravinoEXE

@cleveland124 considering that massive dip in server usage was within the space from an hour, I highly doubt the dip is due to people not playing. I hear a lot of big talk online about people 'never playing again' but I still see the same number of people wandering my city in the middle of the night, hunting down Pokemon and hatching eggs. Talk is cheap, especially on the Internet.

Anyway, for my take on this article. Niantic's communication, while a bit late, is perfect. They transparently explained why they did what they did, showed some data (and yes, there are no values on the graph, but as someone explained, assume the Y-axis is zero and you see that server usage dropped by 2/3 which is massive), and biggest yet, they confirmed that they're working on the Nearby System, which means it WILL be coming back soon. That's something I very much appreciate as a consumer and a user. The future for his game was looking bleak for a little bit there, but I have renewed hope.

Thank you, Niantic.

Re: Editorial: The Rights and Wrongs of Shutting Down Pokemon GO Fan-Made Tools Like Pokévision

TravinoEXE

I used PokeVision a few times. My wife and I are huge Pokemon fans and we're both looking forward to Pokemon Go. Then she got pregnant about four months before it came out. She's in her second trimester and, combine pregnancy and the fact that she has Lupus, she's got very little energy to do much, and definitely does not have the energy to go running around looking for a Pokemon that's probably not where we think it is. The best moments we've had with Pokemon Go since the 3-step Glitch started was using PokeVision to find her a Ponyta. Her favorite. We hopped in a car, took a five minute drive and a short hike in a nearby shopping center and found it, and she was so ecstatic. But now she doesn't play anymore and she's upset about it because Niantic removed all forms of tracking altogether.

I'm hoping they implement an easier to use tracking system soon. Or maybe for them to make the patches of moving leaves actually viable. I can't tell you how many times I went to an area that looked really active and found nothing, yet randomly came across Pokemon that weren't even on the Nearby list. Niantic is showing massive incompetence and I hope they use this massive amount of money they're making to hire some great programmers who can figure this out.

Otherwise this game will die before Gen 2 comes out, and that'll really bum me out.

Re: Meet Salandit, The Latest New Pocket Monster in Pokémon Sun and Moon

TravinoEXE

I see this argument a lot, that it 'doesn't look like a Pokemon'. What criteria is it missing? Let's say that people who use that argument are comparing it to Gen 1 Pokemon. Is it because it's based off of a real animal? No, most Gen 1 Pokemon are. Is it because it looks like it's wearing an article of clothing? I can see the bandit bandana. But that can't be either since multiple Gen 1 Pokemon do as well (Machoke, Machamp, Hitmonchan, Jynx). Is it the lines of lava on its tail? Pokemon can't be able to produce lava. But.. oh, wait, Magmar's a thing.

Dang. I just can't think of what the criteria could be that magically excludes it from looking like a Pokemon.

I don't see how it doesn't look like a Pokemon. Sure, not a Pokemon we're used to. But that's because it's brand new. It hasn't had a chance to be played with or experienced so of course it doesn't feel like a Pokemon yet because we don't have the context.

As for Game Freak running out of ideas, I challenge you to gather some friends and family and come up with 800 or so completely unique monsters and have them all be completely different. Hell, despite all of the variety in the actual, real animal kingdom, I bet you couldn't list 800 real animals that are all completely 100% unique.

He seems pretty unique to me. His ability sure is. I don't recall seeing a salamander Pokemon that looks like it's wearing a bandana before. It also has a unique typing! That's a new idea. Granted? Magmar and Magmortar should have had that typing.. But they don't.

This is for everyone who uses the empty 'it doesn't look like a Pokemon' argument. If that's the case, then everyone should pitch in and give a list of criteria that's required for it to look like a Pokemon. Maybe Game Freak will listen.

As for my opinion on this Pokemon, he looks like he'd be pivotal in the competitive scene because of his ability, and I think that the Gen 7 meta is gonna be unlike anything we've seen before, that it'll come down not necessarily to type match ups, but to what abilities can be utilized at clutch moments against unsuspecting opponents. I love the design of Salandit and I hope it evolves and if it does, I can't wait to see the designs.

Re: Writer Of Divisive New Mega Man Cartoon Asks Fans To Give It A Chance

TravinoEXE

I'll give it a chance. The design itself isn't bad, but his face bothers me the most. It looks like a child on DeviantArt drew it trying to be edgy. I've seen a lot of fan art, specifically artwork that combines this new look with the style of MegaMan you see in Smash 4 and it looks great.

Knowing that Kelly was in on this actually gives me hope.

[EDIT]
To add some thoughts, I feel like most of the anger and hatred regarding this design is toward Capcom in general. They're heading down the same doomed path Konami is by ignoring the fans' pleas for something that could fall near and dear to our hearts like the original games did. Fans are explicitly saying what they want, but we continue to be ignored, even though we literally are begging for them to take our money. It just seems ridiculous, you know?

It won't be long until they start doing something similar to Monster Hunter. Then they're really gonna crumble. It just stings seeing the big companies that brought us so much joy as kids getting so overinflated with themselves that they eventually implode and become no more. I'm still mourning Konami and their newfound Pachinko ways because that most likely means we'll never get the Bloodbourne-like Castlevania that we all want, or even a legitimate new Castlevania game at all.

I really hope the cartoon takes off, and I really hope MegaMan is renewed and made great again, and god I hope that new design isn't the final iteration because while his armor design is neat, his face looks awful in my opinion.

Re: SurveyMonkey Intelligence Breaks Down the Declining Usage of Miitomo

TravinoEXE

Miitomo was fun for a day or two, until I started getting the same questions over and over. An actual chat room with friends would be really neat and would increase my interest. Also, a way to get game tickets easily would be cool, or an easier time winning something besides candy would help as well.

It just got boring fast. The novelty of the Mii voices died down quickly too.

Re: The Pokémon Company Teases the Teaser For Pokémon Sun and Moon Reveal on 2nd June

TravinoEXE

To people complaining about 'teasers of teasers', it's quite blatantly a move to beat Corocoro leaks. They're specifically revealing new info each month to the masses so that information can be enjoyed by all without having other sources leak information first. I think it's brilliant, though at the same time, I've made a tradition of following Corocoro leaks since 4th gen and miss the excitement of waking up to Serebii's slur of news.

As for the reveal, I'd like to see a few new Pokemon as well as the starter's evolutions and typings, the official names and typings of Solgaleo and Lunaara (even if they keep the same names, I do like them), and maybe a taste of the story. Maybe more character customization options as well!

Re: EB Games Display Lists Mighty No. 9 for a Summer 2016 Release

TravinoEXE

I've been trying to remain optimistic and I legitimately enjoyed the demo (buggy as it was) but this is getting out of hand. I wish they would at least have the nerve to update us. Sure it's disappointing but I'd rather know than have radio silence to force a guess out of me.

And with some really great games coming out lately it's gonna be hard to be inspired to revisit the full version whenever the hell it does release.

It's doomed.

I can't say I'll never back another Kickstarter or anything again, because I also minimally backed Yooka and that's looking good so far, and I massively backed Bloodstained and they're looking even better. But I doubt I'll ever support Inafune again.

Re: Video: New Bloodstained Development Update Blurs The Line Between 3D And 2D Art

TravinoEXE

@socar See, that's something we can absolutely agree on. I think it's the thrill of the gamble. Most kick starters I've participated in have been successes - my only big letdown so far has been Mighty No. 9. But Iga is doing something incredibly different and should be obvious - he's asking us, the backers, what we want, and he's sticking to it, and that's what gives me faith. We voted for that art style and shading style, we voted on her final design, and he's being incredibly transparent about the results and how each option did. That's what's driving my faith.

We can agree to disagree, I suppose! I have faith in Symphony of the Night's creator, and I backed a lot of money on it. Yeah, it's a huge gamble, but I think that's what makes it fun. But you have to give the developers time. If it's rushed, you get a sloppy looking, buggy project like Mighty that gets delayed again and again for no good reason at all. I feel like they absolutely rushed that game. And that's wherein my passion lies - taking your time to make the product to be exactly what the core consumers want. He's asking us about every single little detail about the game before finalizing any of it l, and it's been a joy to participate in. In comparison, I think MN9 asked us maybe about the design of the female partner, and that's it. I strongly believe that we, the backers, will get what we desire with this game because of how detail-oriented Iga is and intends to be with this game. And that's what's going to make it great.

Re: Video: New Bloodstained Development Update Blurs The Line Between 3D And 2D Art

TravinoEXE

@socar You counteracted your own opinion by saying that. Yeah. He's the creator of Symphony of the Night, and knowing how Konami operates anymore, he was probably held back a LOT during his time there. Now he's completely free to do as he wants. He's going to make a great game

It's simply too early in development for footage. Unlike Yooka, he didn't work on the game at all before its funding. He was only going to Kickstarter to prove that people wanted another genuine Metroidvania game and expectations were blown out of the water. Sure, he had some concept art and a basic story set, but nothing actually developed. This is all happening day by day since funding and the idea of them having footage this early is ludicrous when they obviously only just revealed the finished model. Please enlighten me, how would they have footage without a main character model?

It's not plausible, and the sense of entitlement people like you possess these days is horrifying. Give it time. It'll come.

Re: Video: New Bloodstained Development Update Blurs The Line Between 3D And 2D Art

TravinoEXE

@Socar How on earth would they have gameplay footage when they've just finalized the art style and the model for the main character? This game was a Kickstarter campaign less than a year ago. I'd wager we won't have a gameplay trailer until at least fall. They've got a long way to go and the model itself looks absolutely stunning. Watch the second closeup with the stationery light source - look how the glass rose on her back and the glass in her skin shine in different colors depending on the angle of the light. They're putting an incredible amount of care into this and saying they're trying to fool people is absurd. They're showing what they're capable of. And it only took this long to come out because they've asked us backers to vote on certain art styles and shaders and adjusted to what we want - something more Kickstarter game devs need to consider doing. I'm certain they're working in plenty more in the background as well. I'd rather them take their time with this one. It's gonna be an incredible game.

Re: Video: New Bloodstained Development Update Blurs The Line Between 3D And 2D Art

TravinoEXE

I've helped kickstart a few games, now. Mighty No. 9 and Yooka-Laylee piqued my interest enough to donate the minimum to get the game at release, but something about Bloodstained really stuck out to me, and I immediately had more faith in it than any other (obviously the same was true for a LOT of people) and I donated a ton of money - more than I've shelled out for any game ever. And just seeing this model shows the care being put into this project, and I'm pretty confident this project is going to be incredible. I sincerely can't wait to see this game unfold before my eyes

And I certainly can't wait to get that art book

Re: Mighty No. 9 Has Been Delayed Once Again as Keiji Inafune Offers Sincere Apologies

TravinoEXE

@90sRetroGaming Aside from Shantae, I backed all those as well, and I was a higher-up backer on Bloodstained (minimum for the fame download for Mighty and Yooka but $150 for Bloodstained for the art book and all that because it looked fantastic)

It's a high-risk thing, absolutely, when it comes to crowdfunding games on Kickstarter, but we've gotten some fantastic games. Sure, most fail, and a lot get funded but aren't up to snuff, but that's the risk. I'd be willing to donate again for something I believed in, but it'd take a lot for me to donate to Inafune and Comcept again. They'd have to finally get Mighty out and a few really good games after before I'd consider it.

Re: Mighty No. 9 Has Been Delayed Once Again as Keiji Inafune Offers Sincere Apologies

TravinoEXE

@RupeeClock I can agree wth that. As a backer I'm getting increasingly frustrated (I only back just enough to get a digital download of the game so it's not all bad, but I feel bad for people who backed the highest tiers) at the fact that a feature I'll probably never use is the cause of it.

My guess is that they never prepared the game with intentions of patching it (hoping for a more old-school approach back before online gaming and releasing the full product all at once)

I still have faith it's gonna be good. I played the demo and loved it and I can't wait to see the rest, but at the same time, I can feel the frustration and can only imagine what the higher-paid tiers are feeling.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Minecraft: Wii U Edition, Or Is It Too Late?

TravinoEXE

The lack of GamePad support is definitely annoying. That's the entire reason we wanted it on Wii U! The amount of customization that could have been possible with the GamePad and stylus is unfathomable. Limitless. But we're getting a lazy port that probably won't even be up to snuff with the PC version. If they fix that and add it in, then I'll definitely blow 30 bones on it. Add amiibo support for unlockable costumes and other bonus content and I'd perhaps spend more. Nintendo is missing a serious opportunity to make the Wii U version perhaps nearly as popular as the PC version. We don't just want the game - it's always been about the customization. And if that's what you're after and you own the PC version, then there's no reason to pick this up until they alter how the GamePad works with the game. Plain and simple.

Re: Deep Silver And Comcept Confirm Launch Date For Mighty No. 9

TravinoEXE

I dunno, I played the demo and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main thing I was against, the voice acting, turned out to be incredibly charming and caused a few laughing fits. The gameplay is awesome, even without the boss weapons in the demo. I think it's fun weakining multiple enemies and chaining them with the dash. I did run into a minor visual bug in the power plant stage of you have the shadow quality turned all the way down, but that didn't hinder me too much.

The fire boss was a fun fight, and difficult, but not frustratingly so. He was unpredictable at times but never cheap. The electric boss was an absolute blast and is one of the most unique boss fights I've ever played in any genre of game. It's really interesting how she essentially sets up for a devastating attack that requires real thought and planning to avoid. I loved the environmental hazards in Pyro's stage, some being reminiscent nods to the Flame Man days, and some being completely unique, like the falling background pillars that you have to dash your way through. It was a blast.

I understand people's concern about the whole Red Ash thing, but you have to remember that game design takes place in several phases, and for some people, those phases come and go early, leaving them without a job maybe 20% into overall productions he started the new project to give them more work. Larger companies are always doing that. You think games like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed get cranked out twice a year because they only work on one game at a time? Granted, they're both terrible comparisons but you get the point.

But the biggest thing that people seem to forget is that Mega Man is Inafune's baby. His pride and joy, and he can't make them anymore. Yeah, it plays VERY similarly to Mega Man but has some interesting tweaks to the overall gameplay. I think that if this exact system was reskinned so that we were playing as the Blue Bomber instead of Beck, people would sing its praises. But that just isn't the case and probably never will be. Sure, maybe it's not game of the year, maybe it does have its flaws, but the spirit of what he wanted to create is absolutely oozing out of every aspect of the game. I think it's an absolute blast to play, and I personally can't wait to get that much-anticipated download code for the full game, because I'm going to play the heck out of it.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Confirms That Recent Super Smash Bros. DLC Additions Weren't From the Fan Ballot

TravinoEXE

I'm surprised at the lack of any Castlevania support anywhere. I can't be the only person who thinks Simon, Trevor, Richter, Alucard, and Soma could be fantastic characters.

Simon, Trevor and Richter could be alternate skins (a la Olimar and Alph and the Koopalings) and could have some great versatility in their attacks (like the Dagger for B, Holy Water for Down B, Boomerang Cross for Side B that could be caught like Mega Man's Metal Blade, and some kind of leaping ability for the Up B, whip grabbing a la Zero Suit, etc)

Alucard and/or Soma would have their vast array of weapons at their disposal (swords for basic attacks, hammers for smashes, etc). Soma could have certain soul skills (especially pertaining to his final smash). I dunno. The possibilities are wild and yet I almost never see any of the old NES/SNES/64 eras of Castlevania even considered. It might be tough to get the rights from Konami but if they could get all of the games on Wii U VC I would hardly say it's impossible.

Re: Video: The Top Ten Worst Designed Pokémon Ever

TravinoEXE

Man, I disagree with a lot of these.

And he can't seem to give any legitimate reasons for any of them. He's just griping for the sake of griping, and that whole deal is so overdone with the Pokemon series.

And yeah, I get that everyone's entitled to their own opinion and all, but come on. Putting the bulk of Gen V on blast for the number one spot is just bandwagoning with everyone else who says the designs are bad in that generation. And, again, he put it on the list without giving any good reason at all. 'Ugly' and 'uninspired' are just insulting to the hard work the creators put into the game.

As an artist, with the point of view of an artist as such, I challenge anyone else to make 700+ unique creatures without taking inspiration from currently or previously existing animals, objects, or anything of the like.

I mean, come on. Gen V gets so much flak, but even Gen 1 was completely inspired by real-life animals, extinct or living [birds, cats, mice, dinosaurs, insects, etc], or inanimate objects that children play with [magnets, balls, mud, etc.], mythology [the dragons and serpents].

It would also help if the reviewer wasn't so blatantly whiny about the whole thing.

I disagree with the majority of the list [Jynx being one I've never liked, and the only inclusion from Gen V that I would agree with is Druddigon], but aside form that, the entire list was completely baseless and picky, without any good reason behind any of it.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Update 1.0.4 Now Live

There's a really great page where people detailed some of the changes. It appears ZSS, Ike and Shulk got buffed, Greninja, Rosalina and WFT got nerfed, and Bowser's Bowsercide kills Bowser first now [no more cheap wins for Bowser users!], same with Kirby and another, though Ganon is unaffected for whatever reason.

They also.. buffed Little Mac's KO punch. KO's like 15% earlier now, supposedly.
