Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Diamond And Pearl's Greatest Contribution To The Series Was The Underground

TravinoEXE

The underground was neat and I was glad to see secret bases return, but somehow they just didn’t quite live up to the secret bases of Ruby and Sapphire. That will forever be my favorite feature in any Pokémon game and I’ll forever be bitter towards Pokémon for not continuing to implement and improve it. Imagine being able to make your own place in SwSh and meet up for battles and trades. Hell, I wouldn’t even fault Game Freak for putting out small packs of base items for free and/or paid DLC, like themed sets for a dollar or something.

Hopefully if Sinnoh remakes are announced tomorrow, they bring the Underground and Bases back in full swing. That’s all I hope for

Re: Soapbox: The Modern Games Industry Has A Hype Problem, And It Needs To Stop

TravinoEXE

Agreed, completely. People need to understand that games are bigger than ever. You can’t reasonably expect a game to take less than a couple years to make anymore, and you can’t expect perfection when you want your product rushed to your console so quickly.

Capital-G Gamers demand and demand and demand for games to come out faster, faster, faster. When they get angry that it’s not coming fast enough, higher corporate heads rush the developers, put them through maddening crunches, and you get a bad product. Then Gamers complain about it being imperfect. It’s absurd and asinine. Let the developers work as they need to. It’s not like there aren’t thousands upon thousands of other games to play in the meantime.

On the flip side, developers and the higher corporate entities in charge need to learn this too, and while it’s not unreasonable to give out updates, transparency is key. Even if that transparency is ‘development is going well’. Don’t announce release dates without being fairly certain, and, to be honest, I think release dates are outdated anyways. Give windows and stick to windows, until the game goes gold, and over time, shrink the windows. Say, ‘available in 2022’, then ‘Q3 2022’, etc, until a date is certain.

At the end of the day, we need to chill. The inherent harassment and badgering only makes things worse - it makes corporate entities rush developers for imperfect products. Stop complaining. Let developers do their work. Be patient. Play something else until then.

Re: Animal Crossing Appears To Have Nerfed Tarantula And Scorpion Spawn Rates

TravinoEXE

@Heavyarms55 It really is. I got fortunate about a week ago and got the NMT Island that gives rare flowers and got tons of black tulips and used them for a graveyard and it became a weirdly good place to farm peacock butterflies, so I took advantage. Since the earth day update I’ve seen maybe two not only there, but on my entire island?

It feels a bit ridiculous. I don’t really look at guides, I definitely don’t time travel. I go with the flow and take advantage of whatever discoveries I make. But it feels like I’m being punished for just being fortunate and happening upon those. I feel like Nintendo’s taking this out on the wrong people. That became a decent source of income to help me buy stuff from my and my friends’ shops while keeping me stable on doing an in line or bridge, say, once a week

I feel like Nintendo’s being a bit ridiculous over it. Don’t change spawn rates, but maybe figure out a way to check if the Switch settings are accessed and rot turnips on time travelers or something. It’s not like making a tarantula island is exactly quick or easy. Figuring out how a game ticks and making it work for you is fun in and of itself.

Re: Random: Scared Of Spiders? Then Don’t Try This Animal Crossing: New Horizons Trick

TravinoEXE

@CairiB Agreed. It does work in spawning tarantulas for sure, but I also had to deal with endless mole crickets, which are ridiculously difficult to find and do not go away under any circumstances other than digging in the right spot to find it. I spent an hour dealing with those on a nice small, flat island and found three tarantulas and more than triple that in mole crickets. Pain in the rear and definitely not worth the time - grow non-native fruit on your island instead

Re: Soapbox: Attacking Pokémon Creator Game Freak Isn't Cool, But Biting Back Isn't The Answer

TravinoEXE

I dunno. I’ve seen the leaks, I know the Dex and I’m honestly excited. It’s gonna completely change the metagame, and hell, I’ve even heard of some Pokémon got nerfed or buffed as well.

A lot, and I mean a LOT of my all-time favorite Pokémon didn’t make the cut. It bums me out, yeah, but I’m looking forward to giving different Pokemon a chance. And some of the new ones are beastly as hell.

I’m stoked to be forced to try something different. I usually wind up using the same Pokémon every single game and it tends to make me a bit more bored a bit faster, but old habits die hard.

Re: Koji Igarashi Didn't Expect The Switch Version Of Bloodstained To Be "As Bad" As It Was At Launch

TravinoEXE

@TheGameSquid Actually, far as I can tell, it’s quite the opposite. Game producers tend to deal with the financial aspect, dealing with investors and whatnot, while directors have more of a role in actually running the team. As a producer, he’s probably more familiar with handling investors (like the Kickstarter of course), while this being his first time as a director is more likely the first time he’s actually run the team itself. Over the course of development he probably ran into a lot of issues he never had to deal with before, and I commend him for at least being transparent enough to say ‘hey, there’s a problem, we’re doing what we can to fix it’, you know?

Re: Review: Blasphemous - A Nightmarishly Good Mix Of Metroid And Dark Souls

TravinoEXE

I just picked this up and have had a very, very difficult time putting it down. It’s absolutely stunning work. Gorgeous pixel graphics, right gameplay, and tons of lore and gore. I wish I had backed this game on Kickstarter but I only heard of it recently.

I have yet to try it docked, but it’s one of the most stunning visual experiences I’ve seen on handheld. Second only to maybe Hollow Knight. But it’s a VERY close second.

Re: Devs Make Big Bucks On The Switch eShop By Drastically Reducing Game Prices

TravinoEXE

It’s funny. I bought both of these games mentioned in the article during those crazy sales. What upset me most is how much I enjoyed both. I felt awful. But at least so many other people gave it a shot as well and made it worth it.

I’ve enjoyed new developers and indie titles on sites like itchio for a while, and I always made it a habit to donate to developers if I really loved their game, especially if the game was free.

I’m glad it worked out for them! Both were incredibly fun and I look forward to their futures!

Re: Limited Run Says Fans Will Be Very Excited About Its Next Physical Release On Switch

TravinoEXE

On one hand, i’ll be stoked if it’s Hollow Knight because it sincerely deserves a physical version. However, just days ago I bought a ‘physical’ version with the Knight plush and the download code. I’m good with double dipping on multiple consoles but I’m not so sure about on the same console for the sake of owning a physical. That’s just my own take though, and if it is HK, I’ll be excited for everyone who’ll get one and experience it, especially if it’s their first experience with it.

Re: Switch Was the Best-Selling Platform for August 2017

TravinoEXE

I still haven't seen a Switch anywhere in my city. I don live in a small town either. It's been rather disappointing.

I would buy one online but mail theft has been insane in my area and knowing my luck it's get delivered and snatched while I'm at work (something that's happened before to me) and I don't want to take that risk

Re: Reminder: The Castlevania Netflix Series is Available Now

TravinoEXE

I watched it, and I loved it. It has characters hailing from Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse and has a lot of the story elements to boot. They also take on a different angle with Trevor Belmont that I won't spoil, but is definitely fun. It does have its horrorcore moments of heavy gore but it's not overdone (and there are a few occasions where it's effectively used humorously)

The animation is very quality, though I did notice a couple little mistakes here and there with coloring (like a frame where something yellow is grey, and in this 1/3 style of animation those little blips are a tiny bit more noticeable)

The voice acting is fantastic but suffers some volume issues here and there where a character gets too quiet.

Aside from those little blips, it's definitely quality and I look forward to season 2! It's already been ordered and will have twice as many episodes. Which is definitely good - four was great, but it left me wanting a lot more. But in a good way!

Re: Poll: Who Would You Like To See In Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo Switch?

TravinoEXE

I still would love to see Simon Belmont in Smash. All of his whip skills and sub weapons would make for a perfect Smash fighter. He could have several skins, like one to match his original design and one to match his Mirror of Fate design and color swaps of both.

Take his Mirror of Fate moveset- long, sweeping attacks and slams - add in his famous classic subweapons (holy water, cross boomerang, daggers, axe, etc) making him a versatile midrange attacker. Make him moderately heavy (probably Samus or Mario heavy, but not Bowser heavy) and give him a weak Up-B to balance him out, and there's a lot of room for him to be a top tier fighter. Plus Castlevania has such importance in Nintendo's early history, I think he's perfect.

Re: Lycanroc Distribution Confirmed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

TravinoEXE

I suppose this is decent for people who aren't too good at or can't be bothered to breed, but for those who do this is fairly useless and definitely not worth a GameStop trip. It'd be much better suited as a Wifi Event

But this is coming from a guy who put in over 600 hours in each previous gen but only 40 this current gen so what do I know

Re: Nintendo Has Discontinued The NES Classic Edition in North America

TravinoEXE

Nintendo, as a business, makes no sense. Why do they insist on isolating and alienating their fans? I haven't seen a single NES Mini, and my wife's been on the lookout as well. We haven't even heard of a store in our area that once carried it.

It's getting increasingly frustrating that they refuse to continue producing things that fans want to buy. I understand of course when it comes to aging games and consoles, but this product is only a few months old at best.m, and people are obviously clamouring for it. It makes zero sense from a business perspective to just stop production on a new product that THOUSANDS of people want to get a hold of. Horrible business practice.

Re: That Bayonetta Countdown, Unsurprisingly, Was for a PC Port

TravinoEXE

I'm extremely excited! I haven't been able to find any copies of Baeonetta anywhere, and buying it on VC is a no go because my storage is nearly full. I'm gonna pick it up next paycheck! I'm hearing a lot of good about the port itself, and I certainly hope that it means a Switch port could come in the future! I don't have a Switch yet but I can hope for other fans who do have a Switch and want to play it on one

Re: Fresh Data Shows That Four Out Of Five Pokémon GO Players Have Given Up Hunting

TravinoEXE

I still play a bit here and there. My work is right next to a Stop, so I can hit it as often as business allows. The recent water festival event got me hugely back into it since I was finally able to catch some different Pokémon I rarely see. I finally got to evolve Kabuto, Omanyte, Seel, Poliwhirl, and got pretty damn close to evolving Magikarp as well. But actually finding time to play, especially having a newborn son now, has been difficult so I've tried uh... other means that have made the game more playable for someone who can't leave the house or work much, which has been great for my wife as well who hasn't had the energy after long days of taking care of him while I work.

Call me what you will but it's been far more enjoyable than catching the same Pidgeys and Rattata and Sentret over and over and over and over and over and over and ... you get the idea

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Runs Better In Switch's Portable Mode

TravinoEXE

Dude I can hardly tell the difference between 60fps and 30fps unless I look at them back to back. The game looks gorgeous and 30fps is fantastic.

People whining about the frame rate, to me, shows that they're grasping for straws to find a something, anything, to complain about, rather than just enjoying the experience for what it is.

If the frame rate is the only thing bothering you, then otherwise the game must be a damn fine experience. I look forward to getting this game and the Switch!

Re: Brace Yourself, The Biggest Pokémon GO Update Yet Is Coming This Week

TravinoEXE

@Markiemania95 yes, there are 100 Gen 2 Pokémon. Chances are, they won't be adding the six legendaries yet. 94 Pokémon without them. They already added in the six baby Pokémon so they won't be adding them in again, of course. That makes 88 Pokémon. They said, in early trailer, over 80 Pokémon will be added in, not exactly 80. That just usually accounts for laziness on their part. "ehhh, it's somewhere over 80 so let's just say that"

I think aside from the legendaries we have yet to see and the legendaries from gen 2 we probably won't ever see, that the Johto Dex will otherwise be complete.

Re: Poll: Does Nintendo Switch Need Streaming Apps and a Web Browser, Or Is It All About Games?

TravinoEXE

I definitely think having multimedia apps is a huge plus, if not essential. If you have everything in one go (games you love, access to videos and music, etc.) then you're less likely to switch your systems.

All I can hope is that the YouTube app is better than the one on Wii U. You know you screwed up when the basic internet browser works better for YouTube than the designated app does.

Re: Review: Pokémon Duel (Mobile)

TravinoEXE

@Serebii Oh, absolutely, and I understand that completely. It's been wildly useful for collecting a lot of unique figurines early on, so I have the variety I need to play the game for as long as I feel like it. I mainly made the comment that Inmade to highlight the fact that the makers of this game acknowledge when they make mistakes and apologize to players with rewards. Normally a standard 'we apologize for the inconvenience' is plenty for me, but they go above and beyond, which is refreshing. I'm sure I'll still be playing once things are settled and we aren't getting tons of gems for free all the time. To me, the gameplay itself is what matters, and it hardens back to the days where my family and friends would play board games with each other and is quite pleasant in today's mobile gaming market.

I will say that my opinion seems to be in the minority here, but still. I enjoy it. The mass gems are just an added bonus to me.

Re: Review: Pokémon Duel (Mobile)

TravinoEXE

I personally love this game.

At the beginning it did have a lot of connectivity issues where playing online with randoms was a bit troublesome, especially when daily missions require it. But aside from that, I personally love games that sblend strategy and luck, and this game is no exception to that rule.

There's always a sense of suspense, no matter what you're up against. I can't tell you how many times I've had what's normally considered a weak and worthless Pokémon beat out a mighty legendary. It gives viability to Pokémon that rarely see the light of day, if at all, in the main series games and makes them fun to use. How many times my Bidoof ran through enemy lines to hit that goal, i can't really say. But it's super satisfying every single time.

Yeah, the element of luck outweighs strategy to some degree, but most board games do. You have to rely on luck (the roll of a dice or the drawing of a much needed card) in most board games, and this mobile board game is no exception. It adds an element of extreme satisfaction when your underdog Pokémon beats out a legendary, and it adds a sense of crippling defeat when the same happens to you. It's an emotional rollercoaster and it's damn addicting.

Despite some technical issues regarding online connectivity, the core game itself is an absolute blast. I personally give it at 8/10 easy.

Re: Review: Pokémon Duel (Mobile)

TravinoEXE

@Rumncoke25 They actually seem to give a ridiculous amount of gems away. They give gems away for maintenance downtimes, a lot more if the schedule downtime is surpassed. Plus naturally playing the game, daily missions, etc. I've gotten over 1,200 gems in just a couple days. Didn't spend a dime. There's a special booster pack for 300 where you get a guaranteed EX-rarity figure (the rarest) and I've gotten more EX figures than I've bought Booster Packs, as a few times I've gotten multiple EX figures. The game is very generous that way so far. And besides, the rarity of the figures mean nearly nothing outside of a collector's perspective - typings and species mean nearly nothing. Sure, your Legendaries have wicked strong moves, but often can't move more than one space at a time, which is detrimental in this type of game, and they still can be beaten depending on the move you roll. As someone made an example in this comment section, a Rattata can very easily beat something like Mewtwo or Ho-Oh with a little luck. I've been on both sides of that sort of situation. Those rare figures are best left by your own checkpoint as sort of a final boss for your opponent to conquer. I tend to run teams of more common Pokémon that can move more spaces and have a lot of success with it.

Re: Shovel Knight Is Coming To Nintendo Switch With Gender Swapping And Co-Op Modes

TravinoEXE

Ive 100%'d Shovel Knight on 3DS and I still find myself coming back to it. I'll probably get it on Switch as well! The gender swapping sounds neat but I wonder how they'll gender swap Shovel Knight. Like clearly she has a more feminine figure in the official art, but how will it translate to pixels?

Regardless, it's a fantastic idea. I love the idea of gender swapping heroes so that everyone has someone or something to look up to. Kudos to Yacht Club for that!

Re: Pokémon Sun And Moon's Second Global Mission Ends In Failure

TravinoEXE

To add on to my previous comment, because multiplayer was so convoluted and messy in SuMo, I got irritated and bored with it way earlier than XYORAS.

Moon, I clocked in only about 50 hours and honestly I don't see myself going back to it. It was a fantastic game! I loved every bit of the single player experience and I do enjoy the Battle Tree but there's not much point in it if I won't be doing online multiplayer. It's just too much of a nuisance, especially with other games like MHGen that go online and connect to players at the touch of the screen.

Between OR and Y versions, I have 1300+ hours in. Massive difference.

Re: Pokémon Sun And Moon's Second Global Mission Ends In Failure

TravinoEXE

@nhSnork Actually the QR Reader and Island Scan are available fairly early on. However you get zero notification for unlocking it, and for me, &5 unlocked on the second page of the menu, and for weeks I had no idea there was even a second page on the menu. It's there but sometimes people don't even realize they have it. Same happened with me with Plaza - I finished the main story then finally tried asking a friend about it. You can imagine how dumb I felt for not realizing there was a second page on the Menu.

Anyway, for my two cents on this - While I understand that the PSS was hard on 3DS's it was a feature that they should have been sure to implement. I'm sure that nixing the Plaza and a few other hardly-used features would have helped. Plain and simple, I think they should have waited for the Switch and/or a new, more powerful handheld because in a lot of ways, I feel like they went way too big with S/M with all the cinematics and crazy complexity in character detail for both humans and Pokémon.

The Plaza is a terrible feature. It's a mess, it's a pain to deal with, and it's sad that they muddled the multiplayer and online functions within it. Hopefully Stars and/or Gen 8 brings the PSS back

Re: The First Pokémon Sun and Moon 'Global Mission' Was a Bit of a Flop

TravinoEXE

I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum here. I honestly had no issue with signing up for Game Link, but it took until the announcement of the event to even realize Game Link even existed. The Festival Plaza is honestly a massive downgrade from Gen 6's PSS. That thing was PERFECT.

In comparison, wanna guess how long it took me to discover that Wonder Trade even existed? Or finally figure out how to connect with a 3DS friend for easier trading and battling? I got the game on launch, and I just did my first trade yesterday. Plaza is WAY too convoluted and they need to bring PSS back if Stars is a legitimate thing.

Re: Here's the Magearna Pokémon Sun and Moon QR Code for North America

TravinoEXE

I had to soft reset for an hour or two before getting one wth a good nature and fantastic IVs and I'm looking forward to taking on the Battle Tree with it. It's surprisingly powerful for a Mythical (not the typical base 100 every stat like most of the others) and its typing is fantastic. I'm still trying to figure out what to name it.

Re: Pokémon GO's Designer Wants You To Look Up From Your Phone

TravinoEXE

If they would ever fix the tracking system so that you could immediately know where to go, that would help the most. Look at your screen, figure out where to go, keep walking until your phone sounds and/or vibrates.

I really want to keep playing but it's hard to be enthusiastic about it anymore since they'be seemingly abandoned the ONE thing that everyone's asking for for a bunch of trifle little additions, or to spend their resources fighting outside trackers that clearly state on a daily basis that they'd shut themselves down if Pokémon Go had proper tracking.

I like how accessible it is without staring at your screen. I tend to just walk with my phone in hand waiting for a buzz. I don't have the Go Bracelet thinger but I would like to get one if I can get one on the cheap. But I wish they would focus more on the things the players actually want or need.

Re: The Xbox One Now Has A Nintendo 64 Emulator

TravinoEXE

@Lizuka I'm guilty of using emulators and most of us are, and I'' nowhere near against emulators, especially regarding Nintendo's lack of capability to transfer bought VC games to new systems and junk. I'm just against people selling emulators on different platforms and blatantly profiting directly from that piracy.

Re: The Xbox One Now Has A Nintendo 64 Emulator

TravinoEXE

@impurekind Yeah, no. See, this developer is making an N64 emulator for a non-Nintendo system and charging for it. Because they're putting it on the Xbox Live Store, I'm fairly certain that Microsoft gets a cut of those sales. So they're profiting on the piracy of another company. Just because the name isn't copyrighted doesn't mean it's not illegal, or at the least, HIGHLY unethical. Most likely both. And if Microsoft were to allow it, Nintendo could, and absolutely would, sue them hard, no questions asked.

Yeah, we're all probably guilty of using emulators at some point or another, myself included, but those emulators we find online are free. It doesn't make it any less wrong, but at least someone else isn't blatantly profiting off of the emulator and ROMs themselves rather than the ad revenue the download site may get.

Also, it's sad to see that some people actually bought this and are actually complaining that the frame rate is bad and that it doesn't work properly. Not sure what most people expected from it.

Re: New Pokémon GO Update Allows You To Capture Incense-Lures On The GO Plus

TravinoEXE

I would imagine they'll finally release the new tracking system with update 2.0. I play all the time without the tracking system so it personally doesn't bother me much. Way I see it, a tracking system at this point would be a perk more than anything. I usually do fine without it and in those rare cases I'm stumped, I uh.. do a thing. You know what I mean.

Re: Guide: Everything You Need To Know About The Pokémon GO Plus

TravinoEXE

I'm definitely gonna man one for while I'm at work, especially because I work at a restaurant that has a PokeStop a few feet away that I can access anywhere at work. It'll be real handy for catching Pokémon and collecting EXP and items while on the clock without getting in trouble (tap of the wrist!)

My only concern is that it doesn't list iOS 10 as compatible. I'm sure it will become compatible with iOS 10 but how long will that take? And of course, I just upgraded last night and can't exactly take it back.

Edited for a couple gooofy spelling errors don't mind me
