Publisher Deep Silver - along with Mighty No. 9 developer Comcept - has confirmed that the physical and digital editions of the game will launch in North America on February 9th and the rest of the world on February 12th. This revised release date was down to the game slipping from its expected 2015 launch window.
The highly-anticipated action platformer will launch on the Wii U alongside versions for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Linux and Mac. The 3DS and PS Vita versions will launch at a later date.
Mighty No. 9 was one of the first big Japanese crowdfunding successes, having been successfully funded via Kickstarter back in 2013. Will you be going digital or physical in this case?

Not to start off on a negative note, but i'll be waiting for a good amount of reviews from several different sources before I decide if I'll be buying this. Lot of nonsense during the Kickstarter, and the game ended up looking surprisingly hideous (which is a shame considering how nice the concept art they put on their Kickstarter looked).
After Comcepts numerous fiascos and failures in consumer relationships and product development, and having played the disappointment of a demo, it's hard to even be excited any more.
At this stage I'm more anticipating the backlash or unceremonious launch of the game, I don't think it's going to be pretty.
Why does it have to launch for 3DS at a later date, if it's delayed just because of online features? One would think a year delay would give them enough time to prepare a simultaneous release...
Dont know too much about it but I'll wait for reviews too and see. I'd prefer a 3DS version anyway. And I'm STILL crying about MML3.....
I backed the digital version for WiiU. It's close to a year over it's target release but I've enjoyed the PC demo so far and look forward to the full version. Let's hope there arent any more last minute updates for yet another delay.
I half expected the date to be Christmas 2017. I've got a physical copy on preorder for the Wii U and despite all the negative press, I'm really looking forward to it.
Lost interest when it was pushed forward for release last time and cancelled my WiiU pre-order.
Won't be giving him my money any time soon.
As someone that isn't really a fan of Mega Man, this game doesn't much appeal to me. If it's a physical 3DS game, then does that mean it's going to be £35-40? Because if it's that much on the eShop - I certainly won't take a chance.
@Moon There won't be a physical 3DS version. Only the consoles and PC will get those.
@readyletsgo
With this logic, you should be canceling a lot of Nintendo pre-orders and not giving Nintendo any money because they've delayed games for Well more than a year.
Meh, 3DS version for me, so I guess I'll have plenty of time to hear reviews...
@DarthNocturnal As much as I'd like to vocally defenestrate Comcept for their conduct and performance, ignoring the burden of living up to Mega Man or the weight of their convictions to deliver a game they promised, Mighty No. 9 still doesn't measure up as a worthwhile game.
Even ignoring that the graphics are not as nice as you might like, I found the core gameplay to be a drag.
The entire "dash to kill" system put a damper on the standard run and gun gameplay, enemies can be shot to weaken them but they can only be finished with a dash. If they're not weakened then trying to dash though them simply hurts you instead.
This is a problem because the stage layout and enemy placement does not favour this at all, your means of attack with the basic pea shooter makes this awkward,
It's also possible though that the weapons you unlock from defeating bosses improve how stages handle, but this is absent from the demo.
To me this feels half baked so far.
Does anybody even care anymore? This is just a disappointment.
I'll believe it when I see it.
I can't help but notice how both this and the Mega Man collection got delayed. Capcom sank pretty low if they want a compilation of a series they don't care about anymore to be released at the same time as said series' spiritual successor. (Accidental alliteration, sorry.)
@ikki5 sure that's a great idea! I'll get on it.
rolls eyes
I'm not even sure at this point if I want to buy this. I'm a fan of Mega Man games but there are so, so MANY of them already. I've barely scratched the surface having played trough Mega Man 1-10 & Bass, Game Boy MM 1-5 and Mega Man X and X2. Oh, and Zero 1 and little bit of Mega Man Legends.
It will launch for the Wii U AND the Wii U?!?!?
@Handy_Man Nope, it's launching for the Wii U, and the Playstation 4 Wii U.
Nintendo should sue Sony, that name is total trademark infringement.
@DarthNocturnal
The beta does not have weapons, you get to play the opening level, three of the eight boss levels, and some EX challenges.
Defeating a boss unfortunately does not unlock its weapon.
At most, you can only upgrade Beck temporarily by defeating enemies that give off certain colours of Xel.
From what I can tell the Red Xel gives you fire shots which pierce, and the Green Xel gives you a movement speed increase.
I can't tell what the Yellow Xel does though, and Blue Xel did not appear to do anything.
But yeah, as it stands the core "dash to kill" system sucks, it does not complement the use of a weapon that has restricted range and by default no piercing.
That might change when we see how the other weapons work, but omitting them from the demo is a curiously bad decision.
That's good news. I just wish the 3DS had a physical copy too,so I could buy it.
I knew people were going to be disappointed as soon as they started kicking themselves up into a frenzy over this kickstarter.
Granted, it looks worse than I would have expected, but I'll wait until the game actually releases to judge it. Definitely not jumping before the reviews come in, though, or it gets a steep price cut.
@Ralizah I encourage you to try the demo, it was meant to be for backers only but it's DRM free, anyone can play it.
If you aren't immediately unimpressed by the graphics, I think you'll likely be turned off by the stage design or Xel absorption system.
As a backer, and an early one at that, I have to say that all the shenanigans around this game have pretty much killed any expectation I have for it. But, two huge issues have angered me:
1. The demo is for PC only. I have all Apple devices and can't play it. Plus, I got my copy for Wii U, why is there not a demo for each system. I know this would probably take time but if the games are being coded for each system and it releases in February, surely some significant progress has been made for each version enough to get a demo out of it.
2. Originally, when a publisher was announced for the game, no mention was made of how this would affect backers. I personally feel that backers should get the game before its offered as a physical release in stores, because we are the ones who made it possible to even have the game in the first place. But, I waited, thinking that it would be announced later. So far, nothing has been said about when backers will get their download codes which leads me to believe that we will get our copies when everyone else does, which feels like a slap in the face to those who believed in Comcept and Inafune enough to back in the first place.
sigh I guess I'll just go back to playing Mega Man Legacy Collection and keep hoping Capcom remembers Mega Man someday.
I'm interested in this still but sheesh, a copy cat game and it's another 2D-3D side scroller... do we REALLY need another one of these on the WiiU? There's only about 57 of them to choose from thus far. Aren't you guys tired of this type of the same game play with minuscule differences all on the same system?
I had a go at the PC demo, but it didn't seem that spectacular. I'm nowhere near as enthusiastic for the game as I used to be.
"Confirm"
It sure has been an interesting ride to be a backer of this game. Still looking forward to eventually playing it.
If this reviews well (which it doesn't look like it will), I'll pick up a physical copy used, once the price drops.
Geez, I just watched gameplay of the demo on Youtube. The animations are terrible looking. Where did all that extra money go? The TV series? The explosion animation looks like something out of a PS1 era title.
Also, how did they manage to make a combat system that is less fun than the one in Gunvolt?
I dunno, I played the demo and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main thing I was against, the voice acting, turned out to be incredibly charming and caused a few laughing fits. The gameplay is awesome, even without the boss weapons in the demo. I think it's fun weakining multiple enemies and chaining them with the dash. I did run into a minor visual bug in the power plant stage of you have the shadow quality turned all the way down, but that didn't hinder me too much.
The fire boss was a fun fight, and difficult, but not frustratingly so. He was unpredictable at times but never cheap. The electric boss was an absolute blast and is one of the most unique boss fights I've ever played in any genre of game. It's really interesting how she essentially sets up for a devastating attack that requires real thought and planning to avoid. I loved the environmental hazards in Pyro's stage, some being reminiscent nods to the Flame Man days, and some being completely unique, like the falling background pillars that you have to dash your way through. It was a blast.
I understand people's concern about the whole Red Ash thing, but you have to remember that game design takes place in several phases, and for some people, those phases come and go early, leaving them without a job maybe 20% into overall productions he started the new project to give them more work. Larger companies are always doing that. You think games like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed get cranked out twice a year because they only work on one game at a time? Granted, they're both terrible comparisons but you get the point.
But the biggest thing that people seem to forget is that Mega Man is Inafune's baby. His pride and joy, and he can't make them anymore. Yeah, it plays VERY similarly to Mega Man but has some interesting tweaks to the overall gameplay. I think that if this exact system was reskinned so that we were playing as the Blue Bomber instead of Beck, people would sing its praises. But that just isn't the case and probably never will be. Sure, maybe it's not game of the year, maybe it does have its flaws, but the spirit of what he wanted to create is absolutely oozing out of every aspect of the game. I think it's an absolute blast to play, and I personally can't wait to get that much-anticipated download code for the full game, because I'm going to play the heck out of it.
Because of the Kickstarter farce, I just going to wait until it's cheap.
At this point I won't get hype until I literally see, hear, confirm, it truly is coming days prior to "this" release date. Until then, I will carry on with whatever else I am playing.
Fastforward to February 8th...
