Re: Review: Bionic Commando: Elite Forces (3DS eShop / Game Boy Color)

TravinoEXE

I absolutely love the Bionic Commando series, and I'm one of the few to admit to loving the most recent title on the PS3, despite its flaws. I really hope these games spark a little interest to inspire a new game.

I'll be picking this one up, as well. It was one of my favorite GBC titles as a kid, though my cartridge is lost in time, along with the system itself.

Having never played Starcraft or any of the games in that series, I simply didn't know that. But Starcraft and Smash are two completely different titles and they both probably work very differently with the style of gameplay they both are. I don't know much about how it works on a technical level but I imagine that to be the case. I dunno, the replays don't mean much to me. The only good one I have is getting 4000+ yards with Olimar on the Home Run Contest. But, I do feel for those who have some they love showing off or reliving themselves. I don't think Nintendo didn't care, as it is a feature they made sure everyone knew about, but maybe it just couldn't be done? Maybe it'll be explained?

Honestly, I'd love for Nintendo to release all of the characters so I can have a shelf similar to in-game [reminiscing along with the original Smash for the 64, how the trophies are just sitting around on a table]

For me, my mains of Dedede, and Samus are priority, along with ZSS if/when they put her out, too. Those are the ones I'd actually use. But I'd love to get them all.

The reason they can't save the replays is that they're not actually recorded video. It's recorded button inputs that are hashed out in a simulation. If they make changes to the amount of power a smash attack has, then the new version of the game will change the replay as well. A smash in the replay may not KO like it once did, and it would throw the entire replay out of whack.

If it was actual, recorded video, it would take up a TON of SD card space. Video files in most formats are expensive in terms of data. You wouldn't be able to save many matches without overloading your card.

I think that the replay issue is a sign that some major changes to at least some characters are imminent.

Re: Upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Patch To Address Balance Issues

@WreckItRyan The game will never support D-Pad movement. There would be no way for the D-Pad to register the difference between a tilt and a full press. At best, you'd have to double-tap for a smash, which would only hurt your D-Pad faster. My advice is to take it easier on your C-Pad - smashing lightly is easy if you practice it. Being stupid and forgetting to buy a warranty for my 3DS XL, and seeing all the busted C-Pads, I've learned to be careful.

Anyways, as for my hopes:

I hope Rosalina gets nerfed a bit. Not in her attacks, or her damage-dealing or anything like that, but I think Luma should at least take non-projectile damage. Link's Hylian shield blocks projectiles altogether, so I don't see why Luma can't act that way, but when you simply can't get close enough to Rosalina without only hitting Luma, but Lma can counter-attack, it makes Rosalina extremely hard to damage at all, let alone launch, unless Luma gets KO'd. I've learned to deal with them [rolling and suckerpunching], but I can see anyone playing Rosalina completely sweeping tournaments.

Little Mac is fine. His side-b, horrendous recovery, and extremely light weight [I'd argue his weight and launchability in Smash being somewhere between Pikachu and Game & Watch, I've easily launched and KO'd some at less than 40% in For Glory] all make up for his ridiculous strength. Plus, so many people play as him because it's easy to do so, that he's become easier to deal with.

I saw someone say Greninja is OP, but he's fine. Easily launched and lacking good, non-smash launching moves. He's just speedy is all.

I hope ZSS doesn't get nerfed at all, with her being my personal main online, but I can see how she would be, with how easily her down-b can launch, even though it's extremely difficult to hit with - I've yet to master spiking someone with it. Her up-b is probably what would take a hit, if anything. It's not hard to hit with properly and launches most characters by about 80%.

I'd say everyone else is fine, really. I can't see why any characters should be buffed or nerfed aside from the aforementioned, but maybe others have different opinions?

Re: Free Sonic Boom 3DS Theme Now Available For Download In North America

TravinoEXE

They didn't send out any review copies.

From what I've seen so far, though, there's a reason. It would have gotten absolutely abysmal reviews, and, being right before the holidays, it would have severely damaged sales for the holiday season. I'm judging this based on the let's players that are already diving into the game as of its release, like the Game Grumps and ProJared. The Wii U version is a glitchy, unfinished mess [that's already being compared to Sonic '06], and the 3DS version is just awful, even judging by just the demo of the game. They even made the characters unlikable. Sonic and Tails seem the same as always, but they made Knuckles an idiotic brute [he had to figure out which way was left by using his hands as a reminder and dumbly talks about enjoying punching things]

I'm bummed, man. I was hoping these would bring life back to the Sonic series, by, once again, it was rushed for the sake of being out for the holidays, rather than having time put in to polish and properly debug the games. I might pick the games up in a few months/years when they're on super heavy discounts like they undoubtedly will be [I can see them down the line being like three bucks used at GameStop at best], but, for now I'm gonna be sad about the Dark Age of Sonic continuing on.

Maybe one day they'll be good again. Maybe.

Re: Capcom Offering Spooky Savings In North America On Resident Evil eShop Titles

@WaveWarlock Mercenaries was a damn fun time, though I wouldn't pay full price for it again. It's definitely something I'd recommend to a completionist, since there's a lot to unlock and plenty of levels to try and get high rankings on, and the characters vary pretty wildly in weapons and techniques. It's surprisingly deep, seeing as it isn't a full-fledged, canonical game.

I bought the game originally not knowing anything about it story-wise, so I was disappointed when there wasn't really a story behind it, but aside from that? it's completely solid.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Update Includes Adjustments to "Balance the Game"

TravinoEXE

@UnseatingKDawg I really hope ZSS didn't get nerfed like that. Not only because she's my main, but because those two moves are the only ones with real launching power that she has, with the Down B being hard as hell to connect. She's much more of a combo fiend and meant to do heavy damage rather than launching, but still.

As for the rest, if they're true of course, then Mega Man got a HUGE buff, unless the increased range is contrasted by lower damage or launching power.

As for the talk about certain characters needing to be nerfed, I can only agree with Rosalina and Luma being nerfed. People who are skilled with her are unbeatable - I lost ten matches in a row to the same guy.

Little Mac is quick and strong, but if you focus on evasion and timing your attacks, you can KO him pretty easily. Someone who's skilled with him is still beatable but requires serious strategy and being careful about letting the timer run out [my fights with him tend to last 3-4 minutes, anyways]. His recovery is god-awful, too.

And whoever says Olimar is OP is nuts. Two special moves are only useful in gathering more Pikmin, a third doesn't do any sort of damage, and the fourth is only damaging depending on which color Pikmin are by his side. However, his attacks are disgustingly strong, but he's slow and easily launched, too. He's such a weird character, but I have yet to lose a match against one, and my win rate's only sitting at about 41%

Re: Sakurai Explains Reasoning Behind Removal Of Ice Climbers From Super Smash Bros.

TravinoEXE

I don't understand why people are so upset at this. I've never seen the Ice Climbers used professionally, or even for fun. The few times I personally used them, I found them extremely frustrating, especially since the AI on Nana was terrible and she'd fall off stage on her own accord. And, when she did, Popo was severely handicapped and had no UpB recovery move, most notably, and also had severely downgraded moves all around the board. I remember doing through Melee trying to get their trophies on Single Player, and remember it as being one of the most frustrating things I'd ever done in a game. They were terrible characters. Fun? Sure. Cute? Absolutely. Practical? Nope.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii U Launch To Take Place In The Winter

TravinoEXE

I think it's a wise choice. The 3DS version will be out, just in time for summer vacation for a lot of people. A ton of people are going to lay it and love it, and it's gonna lay down some serious hype for the WiiU version. Now, for me, I've been a Nintendo fanboy all my life, and the WiiU is the first system of Nintendo's I haven't been in a rush to buy, and I think that goes for a lot of people. They're waiting for a good reason to buy the WiiU, outside of a remake of a game of console past. Not only is a winter release date going to allow for more work to be done on the game to fix minor graphic errors and bugs, but it's going to set WiiU to sell a lot of consoles for Christmas. I've seen a lot of complaint about 'Winter' being late December, early January, which is fairly untrue. I'm betting a late-November to early-December release.

I've been waiting for a reason to buy the WiiU, and now I have one. And who knows? Maybe they've got an unannounced holiday bundle in the works? All I know is, I'm getting a WiiU this holiday season, if only just for Smash.

Re: Review: Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom (3DS eShop / NES)

TravinoEXE

Ninja Gaiden is a barsteward of a series, but it's so fun. It's fun getting really good and mad at a game, because it so rarely happens with newer games. I beat the first one with save states, but then went through it again and succeeded [I did use a save state at the beginning of each act, however, after mindlessly hitting reset during Act IV during my second run - I didn't use it otherwise, like before a boss or after running a level unusually well], and I'm struggling to play the second one through the same way as my second playthrough of the first

The headache from typing that sentence aside, I refuse to play the third until I beat the second, but I'm close now. I already have it, just waiting for the day where it can jump from my 3DS and stab me through the chest with the Dragon Blade

Re: Review: 3D Altered Beast (3DS eShop)

TravinoEXE

When I was a kid, I loved playing games, but never had anyone outside of a Pac-man loving grandmother to play with. That all changed when I met one of my closer friends in the 3rd grade. I went over to hang out at his house, where he had a Sega Genesis. I had one myself, but the game he showed me was one I hadn't heard of, but I fell in love with it right away - that game was Altered Beast.

While the game certainly has aged rather disgracefully, as mentioned by a few others here, its legacy is what matters. It has a very strong nostalgic value being that it was one of the first games that really popularized the side-scrolling beat-em-up. It did a lot of things wrong, absolutely - no extra lives [I've never gotten past level 4, and I'm pretty sure that if they were available, I'd have gotten one by then], no continues, and a few very overpowered enemies [i.e. the bird thing with the long tail that you can ride in games like Golden Axe, that thing will kill you ridiculously fast in AB]. However, it's still damn fun to play, despite its flaws, and it's one that I'll always have in my library in some way, shape or form. I hope to get my old Genesis out one of these days, and to buy a physical copy of this.
