Monster Hunter Stories strikes us as a particularly interesting entry in the series. For over a decade the franchise has largely stuck to tried-and-tested approaches, but this is one of a fresh batch of titles (others being arcades and smart device apps) switching up the visual style and gameplay.
An RPG adventure with turn-based battles, you play the role of young trainers that team up with monsters in order to tackle an adventure and wild foes. Finding, hatching and grooming monsters will be part of it, with a lovely visual style helping to tie it all together.
It's due on 3DS this year in Japan, and you can see a fresh trailer below.
Let us know what you think, and if you want to see the actual game in action the off-screen footage below - from last year - shows an early part of the game.

It really looks great, the art style seems cel shaded and the gameplay looks fun. Probably perfect for the 3ds.
This game just keeps looking better and better, it must come to the west!
Really hoping its in a near future Nintendo direct. We need this it just looks so breath taking but still when is the next Nintendo direct?😓
Forgot all about this one, I think it got confused in my head w/ FF Explorers and World of FF (which were already confused in my head as it is).
This game looks great, though the battling at the 7 minute mark seemed a bit odd, but I can't read japanese so maybe in English it would make sense?
Has Capcom done this look before, seems more like a Level 5 game, Ni No Kuni.
Looking forward to my magical NX world were all games are playable on any system, home or portable.
I'm kind of conflicted about this... seeing cute versions of the monsters I've been brutally slaying is ... kind of uncool. Also, I love me some turn-based (J)RPGs with good battle systems, but I'll be busy playing Bravely Second for quite some time, I imagine.
I'm very interest on this game!
Considering you can ride a Nargacuga and Tigrex in this, I have hopes we can ride a Deviljho at some point.
Ugh... now I want this!! I hope it gets localized! (or at least fan translated)
I didn't watch the trailer yet but is this game open world? Not like the original monster hunter style open work but like without the paths that have the loading screen.
I definitely am no fan of Monster Hunter proper's gameplay, but the settings in the series are another story. The graphics, art style, and concept seem rather charming, so, if the gameplay of this game only peripherally draws elements from classic Monster Hunter, then I'll want to check it out.
import? yeah, sure, ok. let me get right on that.
oh wait, Nintendo does region locking. Guess no importing. The title of this article makes me sad.
(T-T )
Turn-based? Yes please!
"Makes Importing Even More Tempting"
Have fun with that.
Unless you're like me and already have a JP system since Nintendo forced your hand.
Liking this visual style sooo much more than the previously fugly and garish look of Monster Hunter 4.
Yup yup yup, buying this immediately when it comes out. Might even pre-load the game if it's possible.
You can ride a Nargacuga
Bring this game to America. Let me give you my money
Looks gorgeous. This game has a huge potential
Ugh Capcom you want to see me cry T-T Please give Western MH fans more love.
Looks really good. I'd love to see a list of rideable monsters. Give me a Lagiacrus and you have a sale in the west.
