@GregamanX Well the good news is Bomb Rush is $40, but the bad news is that that’s still too expensive.
Surprised to see TOTK finally toppled as the most played game this week. I played Vampire Survivors on PC and got my fill of it there. I’ll actually be playing the original Fallout on PC this weekend, but that wasn’t an option so…
@Kirbyo I think you can. I did on the Japanese FC version of NSO, so I would think the western versions would. Had to do it by crouch jumping into the block though.
@WeLiveInASociety The Japanese Famicom version is identical to the American one. The Famicom Disk System version is a later re-release of SMB (half a year), and that one is different. Considering that the FDS’s minus world has progression and beatable stages, I think that’s a knowing nod from the developer to the gamers “in the know” who already mined the original version for all its worth during the holiday season.
Btw, if your name is a reference to Seinfeld, then 👍.
I love the expressions on M&L’s faces on the NA cover more, but everything else is better on the EU box art, except that it almost has too much going on.
@RobTheIII Those figures quoted seem to be incorrect. Nagoshi said GX sold 1.5 million worldwide, which it would have had to have been at least a million in order to get that Player’s Choice re-release. So despite GCN selling worse than N64, its respective F-Zero game sold better. Which makes sense because GX slaps.
@samuelvictor I actually do think the PS1 has a better library overall, but I don’t know if that’s true for 3D platformers. For exclusives there’s Crash 1-3, Spyro 1-3, Ape Escape, Croc 1-2, Jumping Flash… Tail Concerto? What else? I’m not being flippant, I’m asking genuinely.
If that’s the extent, I’d still say the sum of the best N64 3D platformers is greater than the sum for the PS1. Not by amount, but by quality. If you include 2D/2.5D platformers like Tomba, Oddworld, and Klonoa, then yes, I agree the scales tip back in the favor of PS1.
@Browny I replayed both games on the Rare Replay collection about 6 years ago. I grew up with both and loved both and beat both. So when I revisited these, I was going in with the same affinity for both titles. I still thought BK was a delight and well-designed. Tooie on the other hand, certainly had more collectibles in regards to boat, but the levels became too sprawling. It became such a hassle to make it from the same starting point, regardless of which jiggy you set your sights on, to then get to the actual start of the challenge for said jiggy, then if you fail you start all the way back from the very start of the world. This doesn’t bear out in the first couple of levels, but from Witchyworld and on the levels just get too big.
I played this on Game Pass and that was for me a perfect game for that service. I wouldn’t have bought it then, still wouldn’t buy it now, but enjoyed my time with it enough to not regret playing it.
This looks like a different beast altogether. I just hope they nail the combat as that’s even more crucial here than in the previous game.
BK being above SM64 is interesting to see on this site. I love SM64, but I do think BK is the pinnacle of the genre in the N64 era.
That said, I think Banjo-Tooie suffered from bloat and then DK64 looked at Tooie and said, “Hold my beer.” Replaying a lot of these in the last decade has been really eye-opening as to what holds up and what doesn’t.
The devil is in the details on this one. The animation and the inventiveness we’ve seen certainly set this apart in spite of the similarities.
I’m actually surprised that Super Mario Bros Run wasn’t mentioned by a writer. The level of speed and acrobatics required for the optimal path feel like SMBR. I do hope they learned all the right lessons from SMBR though.
Is this their first full 3D game re: movement? Either way, it looks good. I do think the Japanese title is Mamedanuki and not just Mameda btw. 🤓 Did an official source say it was called the latter?
This is a pretty crappy end for Yuji Naka, though probably not unjust, but I love that every article concerning the criminal investigation against him has that photo of him in the Balan top hat. 😆
This is starting to feel like the boy who cried wolf. I get that they need the sales to justify the expense of producing a sequel, but when this card gets played this much, it’s hard to think of it as sincere when it’s played. It just feels like a marketing ploy.
@Vyacheslav333 @JohnnyMind is most correct in calling it furigana, because it’s a guide for the intended pronunciation of the Ikaruga kanji characters 斑鳩.
You are also correct that the script for the furigana itself is written in ひらがな, but the Japanese would look at that and call it the furigana for the two characters of the title.
If they wanted to express what @ComfyAko said, they would state “I like the spacing of the furigana of the kanji.”
It would be similar to English while looking at a math equation and saying, “I really like where the exponent is,” which is more natural than saying, “I really like where the smaller Arabic numeral 2 is over the Roman character x.”
@Nintendoh I’m not trying to insult the podcast itself, since I’ve never listened to it. I’m saying that the structure gives consumers a reason to be skeptical. You’re clearly an ardent fan and I’m sorry for your loss, but please try not to cast aspersions just because someone is incredulous about something you happen to enjoy.
From the jump I would have a hard time feeling like I’m getting any genuine perspectives on a Nintendo game from a Nintendo-made podcast. I already see people trying to defend Wii Music on the internet, don’t need it in my ears too.
The US one really has better vibes that match the game and is a more flattering angle on Jade. If I didn’t have so much to play, I’d go back and play this one again. It’s been long enough. I recall it being pretty short and getting 100% completion in about a dozen hours. It was a great rental.
@Thirteen1355 I agree with you, but I see where the other one is coming from. I think it’s natural for many people to get desensitized to too much exposure of an unreleased game, or for the excitement to wane. I know that even though I have it pre-ordered and am looking forward to it, I’m not as excited for TotK as I was when it was first announced. And some of that is people having to come back down to earth and remembering that at the end of the day, it’s a video game and not all that you hyped it to be in your head.
I’m surprised some people said it looks more interesting than anything GF has done lately. It’s concept art, but the main character especially and the environment look like something from Arceus.
@Zuljaras don’t know if you’re in America, but coincidentally my wife, who works in the medical field, talked to me today about a patient who had to receive treatment because of his excessive smoking, was told that he’d be back if he didn’t stop smoking and he said “I won’t stop smoking. Medicaid pays for all this so…” So people’s self-destructive habits can have a negative impact on tax dollars.
I’m not saying Medicaid shouldn’t be available, it should, but I think it’s good to know that our actions have more unintentional consequences than we may like to think.
@MergonTheShade it’s certainly a typo. They had one train of thought for the sentence (unlikely), interrupted it with a related remark, and finished the sentence with a reworded train of thought (thought they earlier said “likely” instead of “unlikely”).
I really love the color scheme of that European case. They could probably do just a little bit more to show the blend between the story and puzzles (though not go so far as the JPN box which screams in red “PUZZLE-SOLVING X STORY”

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: TOTK Isn't A Shoo-In For GOTY 2023, And That's A Good Thing
We can’t judge Starfield until it rolls out. Talking that away, I probably give 2:1 odds of TotK to BGIII.
That Baldur’s Gate III is some good stuff.
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Surpasses Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom As 2023's Highest-Rated Game "So Far"
Proud of Larian and can’t wait to play it on my PC once free time and price reach a good level
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: The Legend Of Zelda
I just don’t like how inelegantly placed the illustration of Link is on the map… The PAL version though is anything but inelegant.
Re: Nintendo Download: 27th July (North America)
I feel like Patrick’s Parabox should have been in the flavor text of the headline. It’s been pretty darn popular on the PC storefronts.

I’m actually be playing Humanity on the PS5 and maybe some Rift Apart, but if the wife needs the TV, then I’ll Switch over to Dredge in handheld mode.
Dredge is a really solid game.

Nintendo Life should have just kept using that photo of him in Balan’s top hat for every serious article about him.

I’m not surprised, nor am I upset, but I am sad for those who genuinely love the series. Maybe some day guys.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - WarioWare Gold
@Uncle_Franklin What game had the Australia/NZ cover win?
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - WarioWare Gold
I really like the colors of the Japanese box art, but only Wario on the box for a victory lap is a little underwhelming.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Super Mario RPG On Switch
It’s fairly shocking to see it at that price. I was expecting $40. It’s not a very long game, despite being such a fantastic RPG.
I don’t have a problem with the box art. It’s a callback. Also… it’s just box art.
