Re: Feature: Banjo-Tooie Turns 20 - The Rare Team Tells The Story Of Bombs, Bugs And Bottles

Torn

Rare studios had all my top favorite games on the N64, especially Banjo and Donkey Kong 64. It's a shame Microsoft bought them out. My old Nintendo 64 broke ages ago. It freezes between 5 to 30min of continuous gameplay so I have to emulate Banjo to play it, fortunately, almost any old low-end computer can manage to emulate an N64 game as long as the CPU isn't too much older than 12 or 13 years.

Re: Feature: Best Visual Novels For Nintendo Switch

Torn

I don't know the best VN for the Switch, but Steins;Gate 0 is said to be one of the best visual novels of all time. The fact that you didn't put Clannad on this list, and yet you put some dating simulator called Dream Daddy on it, isn't entirely convincing. Your description of the game sounds highly questionable too. It must be one heck of a good dating sim. Whatever the case, Clannads absence on this list proves how slipshod it is. I feel bad for whoever has to write all these articles and upload them under the pretense of news.

I'm excited for this game. I don't care if it's trying to clone off of Zelda BOTW. I welcome good clones of great games. IMO there's nothing wrong with mimicking a masterpiece and putting your own spin on it. Nobodys expecting BOTW quality and success, but I hope it performs well.

As for the Nintendo Switch I'm reliving a bit of my childhood by playing Ty the Tasmanian Tiger HD (I had no idea there was a switch port), Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Super Mario 64 and Sunshine from Super Mario 3D All-Stars. I'm also going to replay Amnesia the Dark Descent for Halloween.

Re: "Nintendo Isn't That Smart": Pachter Says Nintendo Should Scrap Switch And 'Only Have Switch Lite'

Torn

Nintendo's not that smart? I don't know a thing about this guy, but I do know he's full of himself. It takes a certain degree of arrogance and useless pride to say such a thing. It would be one thing if what he said had any truth behind it, but on the Nintendo youtube polls around 60% of voters claimed that they play the console in docked mode mostly in comparison to handheld. This was a couple of days ago and I didn't check the age of the poll so its accuracy probably changed, but I'm sure most of us Nintendo and Switch fans all agree on the point that this Pachter guy is the one who's not smart. If Nintendo truly wasn't smart then they would never have become a multi-billion dollar company or the third most valuable company in all of Japan.

Wow, I didn't realize a Switch port was released. I'll have to grab this. Back in 2002, this game was quite unique when it came to its action and controlling TY. It played fairly fast-paced and smooth, which hasn't been seen much in platformers back in the early 2000s. The way you could control TY by jumping, attacking, and moving, felt very nice. Especially throwing two boomerangs in quick succession was lots of fun.

Though its nothing compared to games in this day and age, it was a breath of fresh air in 2002.

Re: Random: Bowser Shares His Top Three Favourite Horror Games (Doug Bowser, That Is)

Torn

@RustedHero I've always been too serious and down to earth. I love horror, especially the suspense, but I don't get afraid of them like other people do. The fact that it's just a game is always in the back of my head even when I try to forget. Well executed jump scares are an exception though, they may be cheap, but I still love a good jump scare.

I watched 10min of Teletubbies last week though. I remember watching it as a toddler, but as an adult, it creeped me out big time. It felt like I was taking psychological damage. I just don't get what they're doing, why it makes them so disturbingly happy, and why the sun has a babyface...

Putting a break on 3D All-stars soon because it's October! My favorite horror month. I have an ongoing tradition of mainly playing horror games this month. I've been only playing Mario games for a while now, been having fun with the original classics on Nintendo online. Currently playing Sunshine and Galaxy, in a few days I'll be taking a break with Mario and focusing solely on horror games though. I've played most of the good horror games but replaying them never gets old. Any suggestions are welcome!

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo DS Games

The DS has so many great titles. Restricting the list to 50 and zoning in on the most popular titles won't make a ranking worth reading. Not to mention there are so many obscure and hidden gems on the DS that can blow some of the games on this list completely out of the water.

Re: Sorry Nintendo, But The 3DS Really Is Dead Now

Torn

It's getting old so naturally, something else takes its place. That's how it is. Even if Nintendo isn't coming out with any new content for it, it won't change the fact that it's still going to be played by tons of people for a very long time. I was actually thinking of buying a new 2DS, preferably the non-clamshell type. The standard blue clamshell 2DS I have just never felt very well built, and the joints are beginning to loosen and wear down. I heard the older flat 2DS is more durable, but I don't know if it's true or not.

Re: Indie Game Removed From Switch eShop Due To Hidden Code Editor Is Available Again

Torn

If someone was able to devise an exploit due to his little easter egg surprise, he wouldn't have gotten off so easily. I think if he kept quiet about it, It would do him more harm than good. He's fortunate nothing had happened that would give Nintendo a reason to press charges.

He ended up saving himself with all his talking IMO. We don't need another Switch exploit getting out for piraters to take advantage of, especially so soon after Nintendo did away with the old Switches.

Re: Review: Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition - A Pure Work Of Magic

Torn

They did a very good job porting this on the switch. PC RPGS are a different beast than your standard cosole games. Since this is a very highly rated RPG for the PC, porting it over to a console will always be a bit awkward, and this goes double for the Switch. Putting such massive PC RPG on a portable home console is quite a challenge. I'm sure they had lots of trouble with the layouts the interfaces, menus, controls, fonts, camera, etc. If any of these felt too out of place on a home handheld console it would break the game completely. They succeded in making a fine port while managing the Switches limitations and knocking out Most FPS and Bugs.

Though they did do a great job with the port, always keep in mind that you're essentially still buying a PC game on a console, and one that goes portable at that. Not to mention this game is very content heavy in almost every way, so it will feel awkward as you play at first. I can play this game like a pro on the PC without batting an eyelash however I died countless times at first because of the cluttered, claustrophobic feeling you get with a bunch of menus, options, and windows coming at you at once. They do give a small popup tutorial as you play through at first but they don't tell you much. If you're not an RPG/Strategy type gamer, you'll probably find this game quite difficult even on the easiest setting. It throws a lot of content at you at once while you're still trying to get used to the controls, context menus, player windows, etc. It could make you feel quite overwhelmed, especially as you're trying to wrap your head around the deep and in-depth content. I'm used to playing computer RPGs with heavy content, but only on computers. I tend to take a long while getting used to detailed control schemes. Maybe because I mostly use a mouse and keyboard, however even while using a familiar controller (handheld mode), to play a familiar game I ended up hitting the wrong buttons, bringing up the wrong screens, and ultimately end up killing myself. However, all this was expected when porting PC huge PC oriented games to home consoles and portable systems. I thought the game would end up more of a buggy mess, but it was very well done. I can tell the developers were very considerate and careful while porting this to the Switch since the balance was right where it should be. The context windows and text font can be small and blurry, but that too is expected when sizing down all of the game's dialogue and windows on such a screen. IMO, these types of games only feel completely perfect when running on what they were made to be on, but in this case, it turned out great.

Not to mention I hear companies refuse to put out games on the switch because the game "simply wouldn't fit", or because the console's hardware is lacking. Excuses like those no longer hold any weight with games like this and The Witcher 3 running perfectly fine. Many ports took content and quality hits due to the Switch's hardware, but when the game port is correctly optimized with care, it will turn out just fine. Unfortunately, many ports turn out awful due to what seems to be laziness, with the desire to make fast cash off their former games.

Re: Poll: Four Dragon Quest Games Are Out Today On Switch, Which Are You Getting?

Torn

@sweth_t True, I don't know why they did such sloppy job. There are many great switch ports out there but this port is sloppy. After doing some other switch port comparisons it just seems to me like they just didn't put in enough effort. It's still definitely playable, but the price tag is too steep.

It did get an update. It's now on update 1.01. It didn't fix any of the main issues, unfortunately. It's not worth the price tag, especially when you consider the fact that the game is relatively short and quite easy.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 19th)

Torn

I mostly only play horror games during the month of October . so rather than the weekend this is what I've been playing the whole month.
Right now I'm replaying/playing:

For the Switch:
Resident Evil 1
Resident Evil 4
Detention (First time playing)
Layers of Fear
Outlast Bundle of Fear
Outlast 2 (First time playing the sequel)
Observer (If I get to it)
Amnesia Collection
Luigi's Mansion 3 (When it arrives)

PC:
Silent Hill 2
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream
Visage (First time playing, some decent jump scares)
Harvester (Though it's horror, It's also hilarious and bizarre)
Sanitarium

I'm replaying most of them, but I save most horror games for October. Getting and playing Luigi's Mansion 3 on Halloween.

I'm surprised with the hate this game's been getting. True it's just another port, but the game is fantastic imo. It seems Nintendolife's review ratings are pretty strict.
