Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom - An Absolute Marvel, But Is It Better Than BOTW?

Torn

@Henchdog In the end, all ratings are just a measure of opinion, and if they just rank the best games to the worst, all the best games would be the latest triple A titles on the latest technology, and the worst games would all just be the older ones. New games are built upon more than better technology. They evolved through learning of past experiences, whether it be their own or another's. OoT is a legendary game among video gaming history. As long as there's someone that thinks and feels differently than another person, rankings will never truly be correct. No matter how great OoT is, it's just warming the seat of the next number one after it.

Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom - An Absolute Marvel, But Is It Better Than BOTW?

Torn

@Arawn93

Zelda has a history for many people, including myself. Anybody who grew up playing this series could likely relate to some degree or another as to why fans complained about BOTW and especially its "dungeons." There weren't real dungeons in BOTW. The mere thought of removing dungeons from a Zelda game would have sounded absolutely ludicrous before BOTW came out. Despite BOTW lacking one of the series' most beloved feature, it turned out to be more than a simple success.

Shrines worked great with the game world, changing the dungeon mechanic was quite the risk, and Nintendo hit the jackpot with it. It's hard to disagree that the shrines themselves were indeed bland. They were short and easy, but most of all repetitive, they even had the general same look. Nonetheless, shrines fit into the game world like a puzzle piece.

The game turned out so great that it shut up most fans from complaining about the removal of dungeons. Of course people will still compare it to the older titles, and dungeons are what made Zelda what it is today. The fact that you're complaining about over the people that speak about their dislike of BOTW and its lack of dungeons is like calling the kettle black. You're doing the same thing, complaining over the topic of new and old. I can understand both sides, and I feel Nintendo should end up adding Zelda dungeons in the Zelda games that are now. There's no sense in "going back," but there is sense in bringing in fresh change. Even if Nintendo makes a Zelda game that sticks closer to the old Zelda formula, somewhere down the line, there's no way it would be the same, and it would most definitely turn out great.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Torn

@Vil Thank you, now I know I'm not alone with this. It's always about a BOTW sequel, and I enjoyed BOTW and understand the hype, but I always wanted Wind Waker to be ported to the Switch before anything else. I never bought the Wii U and I always wanted to try the HD remakes of WW and TP. Of course, I still have high hopes for TOTK, but as a long-time Zelda fan, I never liked how dungeons were replaced with shrines. Of course, I get why they did it, and it works beautifully in combination with an open-world game. I was hoping Nintendo wasn't going to make a habit out of it though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 17th)

Torn

Probably, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess for GC, I was waiting for this last direct before replaying them in hopes we would get the remake ports, but unfortunately, we did not. So I'm just going to replay the GC versions instead. After that, I'll probably look into playing some horror games since it's close to that time of year.

Re: You Can Now Purchase Shigeru Miyamoto's Pikmin T-Shirt

Torn

Honestly, I don't like how it looks like some sort of "go green" t-shirt. People who aren't into Nintendo/games and don't know about Pikimin may assume you're promoting something that you have no intention of promoting. This is the main reason why I have no interest in buying the t-shirt. I wish they came up with multiple designs.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The Latest Nintendo Direct?

Torn

It was O.K as far as Nintendo Directs go, but personally, I felt it was a huge disappointment. It didn't deliver a single thing worth getting truly excited over. Not to mention, many of us were very disappointed at the lack of remakes like Metroid and Zelda. They gave us nothing, unfortunately, other than Goldeneye. Even though we know not to take rumors seriously, it's hard not to feel disappointed over this.

Many of us are old now and hope for classic ports and remakes of our favorite classics. I was hoping for some particular GC ports and some Metroid...

Re: 3DS System Update 11.16.0-48 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Torn

These consoles are typically used these days for hacking, emulation, and homebrew anyway. They are so easy to softmod that a child can do it without difficulty. Those who use these consoles without modifying them are generally collectors who enjoy buying the physical games. These consoles aren't quite aged enough for the out-of-control retro gaming communities to target either. Either way, only a small minority are still paying for digital games using the shops, to begin with. Kudos to the people who do, but I would have shut down the servers long ago if I were Nintendo. The biggest reason people are sad is solely for sentimental and nostalgic feelings. The stores stopped being stores when people treat them like databases or catalogs while resorting to other means of obtaining the games. I'm by no means anti-piracy when it concerns old games, but I think Nintendo kept these stores up long enough considering the server costs.

Re: Feature: 14 Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Still Love To See

Torn

@TheFox
We played it, but we want a port. Not all of us have our old Gamecubes anymore. Not to mention, the price of old consoles and games is insane. Lots of us never owned a Wii U, so we want to play it on the Switch. It's not too much to ask, but Nintendo isn't our friend. TP and WW were always expected to be ported to the Switch, even after its launch. I've given up already. They rather sue their fans for hosting rom sites and shut us down when we try to upload game content.

Well, let's hope they get off their butts this year. Metroid was phenomenal, but they could have accomplished so much more.

Re: Get Serious About Fun With A Nintendo Of America Internship In 2022

Torn

Yeah looked at their career website and policies. These people are globalists and it's sickening. All successful and large corporations are like this now. Join if you're okay with losing your rights and freewill. The chances will be good if you're of a different race/culture, or if you're homo/trans. Sounds more like they're looking to oppress and lock you up to be chained under their values. They're basically saying they will shape you to be a better individual as they see fit. The world is spiraling down, "they" want a serf class, if we continue down thus path it will be that and worse. This isn't me dissing Nintendo, it's me fed up with these wicked people forcing their beliefs onto large industries through nefarious means.

Re: For The First Time In 33 Months, Switch Wasn't The US' Best-Selling Console In September

Torn

This may sound weird coming from a Nintendo fan, but I don't care if Nintendo is doing bad, I care if they're doing too well. They only have been disappointing fans for a long time now. They know what their fans want, but they put little effort in showing that they give a crap. Of course, they gave us Metroid, and the last direct wasn't a total disappointment, but they could have done SO MUCH during the last year or so. They do give us the carrot now and then, since a lot of ACNH fans got the updates they wanted. However, Nintendo has been a mess. They've been putting down their fans, refusing to listen to the majority, and haven't been doing much in general. They sit back and let the indie and third-party games do the work as they watch the dough roll in. I know they're struggling, I mean, who isn't? Considering everything that's been going on in the world recently.

Honestly, I'd like Nintendo to get the rug pulled out from under them. Nintendo does its best when they have some good competition who're capable of putting the axe to their money tree. I'd love to see Sony put out a console that's on par with the PS2. Of course, I don't expect that, but we need these businesses thriving. All the same to every business worldwide. The world is at an all-time record-breaking low, but I won't get further into that. I never understood what Microsoft and Sony were thinking when they put out their next gen consoles. To think both of them would screw up so badly. People talk about how they forgot about the PS5 and Xbox equivalent since they can't get one. It might as well have not existed to begin with, especially when the majority of gamers had no choice but to wait and be satisfied with what they had. They really did Nintendo a solid in the meantime.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Dying Light On Switch

Torn

@nessisonett Well, he just didn't know it all. If you're young, own a switch, and never had an opportunity to see or compare it to games running on superior hardware, I guess it's hard to understand what's out there. We were all oblivious at some point in our lives. He'll understand the inadequacy of the Switch once he gets the chance to game on a high-tier rig with a nice 4k screen.

It's clear not too many people are concerned about hardware. The sales and the popularity speak for themselves. The game developers just have to make the best with what they have to work with.

Heck, the port of the Witcher 3 on the Switch was well done. True, it looks bad in comparison to how it was intended to look, but they did a great job tailoring both the visuals and performance of the game so it would better accommodate the Switch's hardware disadvantage. It's all about the moolah, so if low-end hardware continues to fly off the shelves, then the Switch will live on, at least until the demand dies down.

I do sometimes wish it was a tiny bit higher spec. I never cared much about visuals since I'm satisfied with the console and its games, but I admit it grinds my gears when I feel the FPS drops below 30.

Re: Random: IGN's 'Best Video Game Of All Time' Tournament Is Getting WILD

Torn

Ign is being subtle with how they are expressing themselves, but basically, all they are doing is announcing that they support a "change" in the way things should be valued. More importantly, they're spreading the "putting one above another in ranks is normal" mindset. There's no way to judge two masterpieces and put them above another, especially if they're completely different genres. We can rank based on opinion, we also debate and argue but most of us understand that there's no way to set a ranking up as 100% fact as if set in stone. They show off that they are doing it by votes but just because a couple of thousand of IGN voters prefer BOTW over Bloodborne or vice versa doesn't make it superior. This is assuming they are telling the truth. They want a younger generation to see what they're doing and have them think it's okay, and logical to do this. This isn't harmless, it's their attempt at getting our feet in the water for change. That change is, it's fact aand true because we said so. We can't question them since they hold superiority.

Anyway, I don't want to even see this stuff reposted here. Not taking this seriously because it's just a "harmless" fun ranking is how they want you to think right now. This mindset needs to be firmly corrected in the beginning. It's sickening.

Re: A Copy Of Super Mario Bros. For NES Just Smashed World Records, AGAIN

Torn

These people are saying that these games are worth as much as they paid for them. Why is a sealed super mario bros. Worth 2mil? Well, it's because he bought it for 2mil. In other words, because he said so.

Thats the point they want to get across and it's the mindset that they plan to force on us. If they call a black object white then that means it's white. We have zero say in anything. We don't need our own will or any capacity to think for ourselves. So a sealed game copy sells for a fortune randomly next the price of old games skyrocketed everywhere.

Since they bought an old game for 1-2mil they're effectively saying that old games are worth much more money. Whatever they think to be true is true and we will do as they tell us to do and we will be happy this way. It's not an old game he paid for, he bought himself future authority. These people ultimately bought an idea by demonstrating it themselves.

This was just a silly thought which popped in my head, pay no heed to it. They must love video games, but man these people are rich. Did they all win lotteries or something?

Re: Talking Point: Million-Dollar Retro Game Auctions Help Remind Us What Matters Most

Torn

@The_New_Butler Grading has been around for a long time. It's common to grade cards. Not to be a wet blanket, but complaining about collecters collecting won't help. Heavy collecting is closer to an addiction rather than a hobby. They simply collect and admire them a bit afterward. Video games have been under the radar for collectors, and honestly I don't think they're being heavily collected by people who aren't already gamers. The recent sale of graded games for insane amounts of money is suspicious. It drew major attention to the gaming market, what's told to us and what really is being done is always entirely different. This may not be specific to video games, but to inflation itself. This is a small part of the greater "plan", and both money and history get in the way.

Re: 3DS System Update 11.15.0-47 Is Now Live

Torn

@Anti-Matter I respect that. Honestly, you are one of the few who use your 3DS the way it's supposed to be used. With 3DS soft modding guides, even a child can mod their 3DS. It's simple, but there's so much more meaning when owning the actual games, perhaps it's from a collector's mentality, but you shouldn't be judged incorrect or even be recommended to mod your console.

Let's face it, when people softmod their 3DS it's to play pirated games. Some say they only do it for the extra perks and not for piracy, but that's not true. It's for both, with the vast majority modding for piracy. I also consider emulating without ownership of the original game piracy. I don't get why people are debating with you anyway. Your method of gaming is correct. You live by the standards you set for yourself, and despite knowing about modding and the perks it offers, you won't bend. If anything, you should be getting praise.

This is my opinion at least. I understand that others believe differently, also I'm not telling modders that they shouldn't mod their consoles. I just believe you shouldn't be pressing it on others.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Online's Library Is A Snapshot Of '90s Gaming Shelves

Torn

You make a solid point, but the problem remains the same. People simply don't want these unknown titles. Nintendo is acting in opposition to what's in demand. Fans want the titles they're familiar with, and there's sooo many great games Nintendo could have picked. Their roster of games is loaded to the brim with fantastic classics. People are upset because out of all the games that could have been chosen, not even one game of remembrance was included.

Despite the popular demand, and with Nintendo neglecting to give us new games anymore, fans got this.

If Nintendo was dishing us games on a more regular basis, then people wouldn't be so angry that games like these were given priority.

Me remembering getting this game off store shelves back during its release

Me remembering ripping it open out of the box, accidentally stepping on the box, and throwing everything but the cartridge away

Me now crying

But for a grading of 9.8, it looks a little worn around the edges with faded coloring. It should be in pretty much perfect condition. Probably just in the picture I suppose.

Re: Round Up: Here Are The First "Hands-On" Impressions Of The Nintendo Switch OLED

Torn

@RenanKJ I'm of the same opinion regarding Nintendo and handhelds. I'm sticking to my old Switch, won't even thi k about getting a new one until the PRO. Getting a new console isn't even an option for me right now. With the money I make, I'm blessed enough to own a Switch in the first place. My spare change is going toward all the games I still want.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch OLED Model Looks Lovely, But May Also Disappoint

Torn

The Nintendo Switch is, and probably will be a money-making machine for quite some time for Nintendo. It's selling FAR beyond Nintendo's expectations and is still flying off the shelves today with no obvious signs of stopping.

I understand that people are disappointed that there's no Pro yet, but I never expected one when normal Nintendo switches are still selling like hotcakes. Don't forget Nintendo's a business, so putting out a switch pro at this point would hamper the current Switches sales. They will reveal the Switch pro at just the right timing, but that timing is most definitely not now, I mean, they can get away with selling a console with specs that were from 2017 at a high price, and the specs were even on the lower end back then. This development isn't surprising IMO.

I bought my Switch around 2018 and I'm still happy with it, despite fully knowing about the capabilities of the most cutting-edge technology. I'm no so concerned with hardware, as long as I'm still having fun with it.

Re: Rumour: Zelda's 35th Anniversary Will See The Return Of Wind Waker And Twilight Princess

Torn

I've been waiting for Wind Waker since I bought my Switch in 2018. My love for WW stems from my childhood, and with my Gamecube long gone, along with what ended up becoming of the WiiU, I never played it since a kid. The amount of freedom and the open-world WW offered was truly something marvelous back then.

Though his rumors are indeed pretty reliable, I won't get my hopes up until it gets officially announced.

Re: Review: Immortals Fenyx Rising - An Off-Brand Breath Of The Wild That's Still Worth A Look

Torn

@the_beaver This site has always been like this with reviews. They take points off the game using irrelevant reasoning. I don't consider the title or clone-like similarities to be cons. I welcome well-made games influenced by prior masterpieces with open arms.

I can overlook how biased they are with Nintendo made games, but I never read their reviews too seriously. It feels like they have to find reasons to force a certain rating on their reviews. Their video reviews are a bit better, reading some of their reviews makes me feel like I'm reading a first impressions look rather than a real finished game review.

Re: Review: Immortals Fenyx Rising - An Off-Brand Breath Of The Wild That's Still Worth A Look

Torn

@LunarFlame17 The name is generic and boring from a gamer's perspective. It sounds like they took the main character's name, combined a few cool-sounding words from a generator, put them together, and just went with it.

Bravely default was known for its awful name when it was released as well. They decided to name it after the unique turn-based RPG play style it had, but it sounds silly when you read both words together.

Don't get me wrong, I don't consider game titles to be cons. In the end, it's just the title, not the game. Bravely default serves as a good example. It was mocked for its silly title but turned out to be one heck of a good game.

Re: Nicalis Is Trying To Erase Free Versions Of Cave Story From The Internet

Torn

I fell in love with Cave Story when I first played it. The freedom of game modding and the release of different forks of the game created by fans using CSE2 (Cave Story) as the base game made the freeware pc version more popular than what's sold on consoles.

Its truly a shame that Nicalis is doing this...As a long time fan, I'm very disappointed in them.
