Today sees the start of a whole new generation of gaming, as the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S arrive in stores worldwide. Microsoft will tell you that the new Xbox consoles boast lots of exciting games, features, and more teraflops than you could ever need, but there's one feature that arguably puts one of them above the rest.
Yes, the Xbox Series X doubles up as a perfect display stand for the trusty Nintendo GameCube.
We've actually seen comparisons between the Series X and the GameCube before – memes of the Series X saw Microsoft's new console be compared to all sorts of things like fridges and stacked GameCube consoles – but we never would have expected the system to match up to Nintendo's machine quite so well.
As you can see in these photos from Twitter user @watosan_ship5, the two consoles go absolutely hand-in-hand.
It's always nice to see people in the replies having far too much fun as well:
Are you treating yourself to one of the new Xbox or PlayStation systems this week to go alongside your Switch? Make sure to have your say in our poll.

I really love the internet sometimes.
Hahahahh, why do i have to laugh about those images, kinda funny and strange.
Is that on top of the fan? Reviews I've read have said that the console is quiet, but there's a lot of hot air coming out of there. I'd happily watch a video for an hour of someone parking a GameCube on top of that to see what happened.
"Microsoft will tell you that the new Xbox consoles boast lots of exciting games, features, and more teraflops than you could ever need"
Exciting what ?? 🤨
Xbox Series are unable to play
DDR Ultramix 1 - 4, DDR Universe 1 - 3,
Dance Evolution, Kinect games.
Those are the only games i want to play altogether on one Xbox machine.
I think the real news here seeing that the Xbox Series X has already broken the sales records of its predecessor in Japan. Microsoft managed to sell an entire console in the region!
...And it ended up stuck under a 20 year old Nintendo system. ...Maybe that says something...
GameCube still looks nicer. And that's the black GC, the least photogenic of them all.
Oh, boy! Is it too late to place a pre order now? Why didn't they advertise this Game Cube stand before???
@Maxz
Another name suggestion,
Xbox Series X = GameCuboid. 🤣
that's a hell of a expensive stand, like, Apple expensive
Absolutely do not do that, you're blocking the ventilation system of the Xbox Series X in either configuration, or the disc tray for the GameCube.
@RupeeClock You can't expect people on a Nintendo website to understand tech, airflow, power, etc
Well I was GOING to buy a PS5, but now you got me thinking...
When the console stand costs more than the console.
Series X and GameCube is also the only "Cube consoles" ever made i think.
I like the one where the Gamecube is wearing the xBox as a hat.
I've been waiting years for a high-end, $500 GC stand!
Hallelujah! The day has finally arrived.
At the one small price of a $500 console exploding due to overheating.
Still cheaper then the iMac stand.
Should have taken advantage of the game boy player plug underneath. Xbox player 🤷🏻♂️😆
As of no games, Id say that today thats the only thing Series X is good for
nintendo will be on to lawyers now can we sue MS for it being square lol
Ah yes, block the fan exhaust vent with a other console!
Brilliant idea
@Yanina
I have an iMac and your comment doesn't make any sense. 🤔
@RasandeRose No games? It has games.
That GameCube is disgusting. Needs bleaching.
You can see on one of the two memory card slots, that a card has been there for a long time, because it's the only part, that stayed white.
I hadn't actually realised the new Xbox was that big lol
nice of them to try and find some use for it. Still not sold but closer than I was yesterday!
I appreciate the broadband adapter flex.
Slap a GBA player in there for the full "Cube" and you'll have quite the gaming set up there . One of the biggest catalogues of gaming ever.
Ha, this is great. I'm going to pretend this was on purpose.
Hm maybe they can transform with more Console to a Megazord.
It needs a LCD screen and gameboy player. Then it's a real tower
@Aispen Oh yeah.... mmm sounds good.
Maybe slap on some GC to GBA cables and play it with 4 GBA's?
Drooooools
E X P A N D G A M E C U B E
Getting mine delivered in a few hours. People can say what they want, it's a 4K gaming console that can play almost everything from xbox one natively, not some emulator. If you had an Xbox one and played it a lot it's an extremely logical upgrade as Xbox one x is out of production and nothing else can do xbox one in 4K.
And stuff like I bought borderlands 3 for 15 bucks and it's going to play like an Xbox series x game. Using the same disc on both systems and getting a different version makes so much more sense than doubling up.
Pretty sure that is the monolith at the end of "2001 a space odyssey" lol
Wouldn't this block the fan though?
Plot twist, this is actually a new Gamecube add-on called Gamecube Series 32X
That's backward. The XSeX should be on top. That way you can play Banjo-Kazoie, Conker, and Perfect Dark on your GameCube!
People – this is called satire. Let’s try not to take this too seriously, OK?
Oh great, they've built Kronos and now it's going to gain sentience and destroy us all.
@doctorhino
Yeah that has kind of gotten me thinking about one as well. Being able to play 4 generations of Xbox games on one console. I went from Wii-U to Switch and never got a Xbox One or PS4. I also see old Xbox, Xbox 360 games at garage sales all the time. This would also give me an avenue for any games that interest me that do not appear on Switch.
Switch and PC for me. PS5 and XboxX are the least exciting "next gen" I have ever seen in over 25 years.
I have to say, for the most part, I only play nintendo because my parents are too restrictive of stuff like games with guns and blood, but In defense, Nintendo does a lot more creative things, where Sony and Microsoft just repeat the same thing over and over again.
@rdrunner1178 unfortunately the 360 and more so original xbox is spotty on xbox one. The 360 is actually more compatible with OG Xbox gsmes.
So I would say more for xbox one games as they get cheaper it would serve well. Of course xbox one prices will also hit the floor if you are not interested in the price tag next gen has with it
I will probably eventually get a ps5 but for now it gives me a lot more games to play with how many older games are getting the full next gen treatment.
@MrBlacky wasn't there a meme about that the stand of the newest iMac costs like 1k?
That poor Gamecube could use some retrobrite.
for some reason this article makes me want Nintendo to release an updated version of the GameCube. updating it from component and composite video to HDMI. making the system region free as well as updating it to supporting full sized DVDs instead of just the Mini-DVDs.
i think they can pull this off without having to increase the size of the console. and if they manage to keep the size of the console the same after these updates, than it can remain backwards compatible with all of its current accessories. and maybe they will do us a kindness and have the GameBoy Player software built into the OS of the system. using that boot DVD for the accessory is a pain in the behind.
@JohnnyC I’ve heard the back is where the heat is dispelled
@Snakesglowcaps I can feel air coming out of the top of mine.
@Ventilator Gameboy advance sp was pretty cube like.
@Yanina That wasn't a meme, the stand actually was $999
Yeah, if you're an idiot. 😂
Just don't leave it up there.
@Menchi or a joke!!
@Heavyarms55
I’m actually pretty stoked to brave online orders Thursday for a PS5.
I’m a playstation fan at heart so I’m crunk.
Best thing about the upcoming generation is that loading times are going way, way down. That’s been my biggest complaint of the previous two generations; the load times have gotten obscene.
The PS5 and Series X aren’t ROM cartridge fast. But they are the closest we’ve gotten to it since the N64 went off the market.
I'm gonna link this article to all those people who told me that the new upcoming consoles would be useless.
@TheRedComet Load times haven't bothered me since the days of early CD based systems. It's of no concern to me. When I look at the new consoles, all I see are better graphics and faster load times. And I have that on my PC. So Switch for all my favorite first party titles and unmatched convivence and PC for those games that Switch just can't handle.
I get that not everyone can afford a gaming PC. I bought/built this one not just for gaming but it's everything I would need from a PC-type device. I can use it for work if needed. It's also my media center. But having this PC makes me have very very little interest in either XboxX or PS5. Both of which just look like restricted PCs to me.
@doctorhino Yes.
OK, I'm pretty sure Nintendo Life is drunk.
That Enderman is brilliant! lol
@Ventilator You forgot the best cube-shaped console of them all! The Ouya!
@dBackLash The best? Everything on it were outdated before it even launched. lol.
GPU, Storage, HDMI +++ were all oldschool on that box.
Didn't help that people had to buy same games they already paid for on Android.
NVIDIA went the opposite way. Shield TV were years ahead of it's time instead.
lol that enderman image
Nintendolife sounds hardpressed for news to write about. You put your Gamecube ontop of your new Xbox? Well done.
@Dogorilla PS5 is humongous, too 🤣
I DIDNT ORDER A CREEPER, I ORDERED AN XBOX?
These new consoles are massive. Even the awesomeness of a Gamecube handle and the name "Gamepillar" couldn't save this one from looking bad.
When I first saw the new Xbox, I immediately thought of a Gamecube stacked on top of another. It's good to know I got the dimensions correct.
