I just got a Wii U over a few months ago so it is frustrating to see them switch gears so soon. I invested in the system because it seemed like Nintendo was finally starting to put a variety of games out that appealed to me that gave me a reason to buy the system. Now it seems they jumped ship as I was just warming up to the Wii U. I have to say I feel let down as a consumer, and it makes me less likely to invest in the next system. Last E3 got my attention with Splatoon, Project Robot, and Toad's Treasure Tracker (bit of a Toad fan), so this year felt like a bit of a let down. I think the Wii U is a great system and it has a lot of potential, and I really want to see more games on it.
While I understand some people have legitimate complaints about Miiverse I have to say I really enjoy it. I'm ok with Nintendo trying to provide a clean fun environment for their users to communicate through. I own the PS3 and Xbox 360 and have to say they don't have anything as cool a Miiverse that allows gamers to connect with other gamers outside of gameplay who enjoy the game their playing. It promotes a great community game experience and I think it's awesome. Plus with the the game pad the chance to add your own artwork as a post to show your love for a game is incredible. For instance I just got done playing some online battles in Splatoon, and went to Miiverse to show my excitement for the game. I get an avenue to communicate with others who love the game just as much as I do. It's neat that Nintendo has their own social media experience that is just intended for the players. What other system can you leave a comment, leave a drawing, or post a game pic to a community who shares your interest in the game and then go right back to playing the game. In my books this is very cool and something they should keep. Though I think you should be able to appeal a ban especially on family accounts, or have a time limit for bans (kind of a slap in the wrist that gets worse with each ban).
I just got and started playing Splatoon this past weekend. It's been alot of fun, and i look forward to the update! I also don't mind the lil updates when they are free. It gives you something to look foward to. Though at this point im still catching up.
That would have been cool, but u don't need to reinvent the series. It's a racing game, just have new tracks that rock and the speed we all love in the series. For some reason i could see a fzero cart racer type game with the lil futuristic space car, lol.
I'm still not crazy about paying $60 for a game that has only 5 levels and 3 challenges. It feels like the anount of content is limited for the price point they are giving. Though im still interested to learn more about the game.
I was never crazy about the aiimbo's from the begining, but I could understand wanting one if it was worth while, but Nintendo has gotten so money hungry about Amiibo it's off putting. Plus the lack to supply and distribution in giving people what they want makes it worse. I think they are putting far too many out, and not enough of the ones they do have. I was more okay it their was a few games built around the aiimbos, or if the aiimblos were built for a few select games. However, every game has an aiimblo and that just makes me feel like Nintendo is greedy and just finding a way to jam an aiimbo with every game. I think they need to cool before they start loosing some fans to this stuff. If feels like there is more concentration on aiimbios then there is on putting out Wii U games, which is over frustrating and makes this feel like this might be might last Nintendo, unless Nintendo can get back to focusing on making great games. Granted Splatoon is great, and there has been some awesome titles for Wii U, but not enough to warrant fans on the fence to purchase it when the other consoles have so much more. Granted aiimbos looks cool, but they don't hold a lot of game value.
I think Ubisoft is just trying to get this great game into the hands of gamers. It is a great survival game and the use of the gamepad on Wii U is better than any other game that Nintendo has really offered. I think Ubisoft could have made some really amazing games for the Wii U, but for some reason the support is just not there (which is a shame).
My personal ratings are: Gold: Typoman - It was very clever and overall stood out. Silver: Freedom Planet - I almost didn't even download it, but once i started playing it I was very glad I did (in fact i played it a few times). Bronze: Soul Axiom while its a little rough around the edges, it looks very promising and I enjoyed the puzzle gameplay with the abilities. It is unlike anything else on the eshop amd felt original to me. Plus i give them credit for making something other than a 2D game. Extreme Excorcism and Rive were runner ups (Exorcism gameplay felt like it could be limited, but was a lot of fun). In Rive I super enjoyed the flying aspects of the game, but wasn't as crazy about the gound rolling (though very visually polished and has my attention ).
I just saw that they are charging $60.00 for this . . . .what? It seems like at most they would charge $40, since the graphics seem to behind in style and multiplayer/online player are not there. I guess it makes it a definite that I will get Xenoblade Chronicles X first.
After watching the videos here I'm more excited about Starfox (while some of the graphic feel a little ruff the game seems fun, and I'm super into Fast Racing Neo (which I think should satisfy the Fzero fans).
The problem is Nintendo didnt attract new fans or excite their old ones. They have great game franchises, but are still reach ing out by just mainly making mario titles. More Starfox, Zelda, Metroid, F Zero, Pilotwings (which seems made for this console), Animal Crossing, heck even a good Mii based action game could work. Project Robot looked cool, where is that? Nintendo is innovative if they allow themselves to be.
I'm going to have to say for me Gold: Typoman ( I was just awesome) Silver: Soul Axiom (the concept of Soul Axiom was intriguing and I wanted more, but the cut scene at the end was cheesy) Bronze: Forgotten Planet (While it seems much like a "Sonic game" It's just a little different to provide something new, and I really enjoyed it and played it a couple of times). Extreme Excorcism is a close fourth. (Extreme Excorcism was a fun concept, but hope the actual game expands upon what was shown, though I did play it quite a few times). I also really enjoyed Rive as well, but I would have like to see more flying (which I'm sure is in the game). Really a lot of good quality games to demo. The ones I didn't care for or weren't for me were Runbow, Forma 8, and Mutant Mudds (which I know others love).
@Monkeh i agree with you completely. I've always have loved Nintendo, and my friends who have ps4's and xbox ones laughed when I bought a wii u. I told them that there were better things to come from Nintendo and it was worth the investment. I look like a fool now, and i dont care what their next gen has when this gen has been so lacking. The fans with blinders on can say that this was a solid showing, and other consoles dont offer anything. However thats just delusional talk. Heck just as an nintendo fanboy the Rare collection looks awesome from xbox. This was a big blow for an Nintendo fanboy and for me causes me to question my faith in the company. It seems silly to some, but i invest in this stuff so its a personal decision to me. I want them to entertain me and give me the options i deserve as a customer. If not, then why am i buying from them.
The problem is I'm a wii u only owner, so the DS stuff may look cool, but doesnt apply to me. I guess star fox and xenoblade chronicles x will work for a lil while. Though indie game companies on wii u have to be excited about this. Fast racing neo looks awesome, so that I can look foward to as well.
I don't think he should apologize for E3 necessarily, but admitting you were off from your target market is.
I do think that he should apologize to Wii U owners for the lack of substance on the system. Nintendo wants you to buy the wii u and all these amiibos, but is already thinking next gen before they even have a somewhat selective library for the Wii U. That's a burn to your customers.
I think that is why everyone is so upset. This was probably the last year for something substantial for the Wii U or for them to show just how innovative their game system was, and we were given nothing really, and definitely nothing we didnt know about that was worth while.
I'm regretting my purchase when there isnt anything that i have to looke foward to, and other gaming companies have 17 different titles each to discuss, which half or more look awesome to play. Begining to realize it might be time to part ways with Nintendo (as much as it pains me to say).
Its not only about being behind next gen consoles in graphics and media options now, but not having enough out there for current fans to keep investing in Nintendo. Nintendo keeps being conservative but their action process is far too slow to survive the fast paced gaming world that there becoming less and less a part of.
I think nintendo needs to start asking its fan base what it wants. I would have released this game after i released a main franchise game for Metroid. When nintendo gets out of the console business and allows other studios tonwork on their franchise, then we may actually get to see what is capable of this franchise.
I think someone mentioned it before, but it seems nintendo isn't capable of working with open worlds and HD graphics. Its like they are stuck behind the times instead of ever moving forward. They know how to make cute games that are engaging, but not massive exploring world games that look good. There is a chance the pepople who could have helped them move foward in this direction have left long ago to work on other consoles.
I wasn't shocked that the new Zelda wasn't at e3, because they mentioned it wasn't ready as others stated. So I know they weren't trying to get anyone hopes on that issue. Though the real problem is where are the other games at? While I will probably get Starfox (for the right price), the only other game that showed promise was Xenoblade, which is already released in Japan and we knew all about it. I thought there would be something up there sleave that was relevant. What happened to some other titles like Project Robot from last year. Like I said, Where is the other "wow" games?
I forgot to add I'm sorry for Animal Crossing and Metroid fans. I mean, wow, talk about totally missing the target market. The titles released here at e3 would be ok if there was already a full blown Metroid game and Animal crossing game for the Wii U system, but not as the meat and potatoes of the event.
The issue is there was no wow factor. I thought the puppet presentation was great, but little else was really that awe inspiring except for the game I already saw a preview too (Xenoblade Chronicles X). I think Starfox will be alot of fun, and I wasn't as off put by the graphics as others once I got to see them on a bigger screen. I also like the idea of using elements from the past games and also the second game that was never released. However, this seems like more of a eshop game and not a brand new Starfox game. Granted once I saw the whole presentation I did like the use of the game pad involvement in the game, and the enemy look cool. However, after seeing the graphics of Xenoblade Chronicles X, it makes you wonder why they didn't shoot for a better presentation for the game. Well I can say Xeonoblade and Starfox will probably be the only two games I pick up from this offering. Which allows me to spend money on other stuff I want, lol. Lastly, stop being so amiibo crazy, it just comes off as greedy. I could see using them for a set of games, but for everything is ridiculous.
Im ok with them focusing on a awesome one gamplayer mode. Though if enough people r requesting it there could be a seperate game with online dogfighting style that would be great. Imagine your Mii dressed in a star fox outfit.
@Coproll I completely agree with u. Its hard to invest in NX, when Nintendo didnt provide more content and titles for Wii U. I could see why third parties wouldnt invest in nintendo if the company itself won't even invest in its own gaming console.
I just bought a wii u a few months ago, but Nintendo is already giving up on the wii u. So i guess i should give up on nintendo?
Leave it to Nintendo to never fully utilize a system that could have so much promise. The same games from them as on their old systems, just repackaged, but thrown in amiibos. I dont want aniibos i want great gameplay. You use to be cool Nintendo.
After all that waiting all Starfox fans get is a remake of the original. I somehow feel very disappointed. I probably won't pick this up if more than $15-$20 in the shop.
I remember playing Starfox for the first time when it was released on the Super Nintendo (I know I'm old), and it really blew me away as a I kid. I don't know why Nintendo wouldn't release a game they arleady completed. So what if it wasn't like the playstation graphics. The people who had the Super Nintendo would have still enjoyed it. Hopefully (doubtful) it will get released finally.
As far as the new game (fingers crossed), it would be awesome if they could let you choose a character, a co-pilot, and a spacecraft. While playing it would be cool if you could switch between flying the ship and taking gun controls as you wanted. The gun controls would utilize the small screen for aiming/shooting screen - basically giving you a 360 view with it in your living room. Help get those pesky ships that are tailing you from behind. While in flight mode the small screen would work as your steering wheel more or less (use triggers to accelarate or barrel role). Yeah I know I'm dreaming big on this one.
I agree that it seems like the Starfox universe has never really come into full fruition. Hopefully that changes this year or next year.
I like that this article has gotten the ball rolling on people discussing their opinions and worries with Nintendo. It took me a while to finally decide on purchasing a Wii U over the other consoles. I have an Xbox 360 and PS3, but I wanted to make one choice for this next gen console. I chose Wii U because I feel it's something my young son and I can grow to play together, as he is starting to get into games. I also really like the innovation of the controller screen. It took me a minute to come around to this though. Unfortunately Nintendo hasn't done a great job on showing how innovative their game-pad is to the world. I think this is the area where a 3rd party publisher could come in with some innovation and sweep some fans of the console away, and make it seem more worth the money invested.
Side note: The problem is Nintendo is already focused on getting ready to release their next gen model in another year or so, and they never really got anything out on the Wii U besides a few great Nintendo games. I'm tired of buying consoles every few years. I would rather have Nintendo utilize the one they have and reach out to 3rd parties to pump up the offerings on this console. Perhaps that's just old school gamer philosophy, but I can think of so many games by third parties and Nintendo on the Super Nintendo. It seems like with every console there seems to be less and less games that really wow me. I think that's a part of the problem as well Nintendo is already moving on, and it's harder for me to buy a digital copy of a game I know will not transfer on the next system in another couple of years.
I love Christopher Lloyd and obviously his role as Doc Brown was one of the greatest characters in cinema. Dang you Lego for playing on my weakness for Back to the Future!
I feel for indie game creators and publishers. I really do. I think a big part of the issues is that there is just so much out there. Of course I would like to play as many games as possible, but time restraints and budget restraints are an issue. Sometimes I will admit to giving a game more of a try if it is discounted, but that's not always they case. I want to pay a fair price for a game that I think is actually worth my money and time. The issue is that these Indie games are also competing with the main titles for the console. So If I see a console game I've been wanting on sale for the same price as an Indie game, then I'm more likely to pick up the main console game. A majority of the time it's got more content than the Indie game I'm purchasing. Also with Nintendo your competing against virtual console games. Do I get a game that gives me good memories or chance it on a game that I've never played. A small solutions is to have more demos for indie games available. If I try it and like it there is a chance you have swayed me to buy it. I try to support the indie games when I can, and I think it's frustrating as an Nintendo fan to have 3rd parties give up on the system. Some of my favorite games of Nintendo history are 3rd party (Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Eternal Darkness, Illusions of Gaia, etc.). I bought the Wii U system for games like Zombi U.
I absolutely loved Top Gear on the Super Nintendo. If this is as close to as good as Top Gear then I'm in. It looks promising though. I wish game developers weren't so iffy about doing the game for the Wii U. I actually chose the Wii U over the over new consoles, because of it's innovation. I wish more game companies would do the same.
I'm a huge Jurassic Park fan, so I'm going to have to buy this eventually. Though I will probably wait until the price drops. I will have to wait and get more information and videos to see if Dimensions will be worth the investment it's requiring. Though playing as Back to the Future characters is very cool, and the Wizard of Oz has got my wife's interest.

Then Anger: Feeling cheated for buying a Wii u with no game support, and getting a backtracked apology.
Then mixed emotions: I guess i like a few of the games offered, but this really is it? Shouldn't they be making better games?
Acceptance of Disappointment: This is it. I will probably get a few games. I guess i can spend the remaining money I save on a new console.

@Coproll I completely agree with u. Its hard to invest in NX, when Nintendo didnt provide more content and titles for Wii U. I could see why third parties wouldnt invest in nintendo if the company itself won't even invest in its own gaming console.
Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?
I just bought a wii u a few months ago, but Nintendo is already giving up on the wii u. So i guess i should give up on nintendo?
Leave it to Nintendo to never fully utilize a system that could have so much promise. The same games from them as on their old systems, just repackaged, but thrown in amiibos. I dont want aniibos i want great gameplay. You use to be cool Nintendo.
Re: Mario Tennis Ultra Smash Is Coming To The Wii U Centre Court This Holiday Season
I would rather have Mario Striker.
Re: Star Fox Zero Marks An Explosive Return To Form On Wii U
After all that waiting all Starfox fans get is a remake of the original. I somehow feel very disappointed. I probably won't pick this up if more than $15-$20 in the shop.
Re: Feature: The Full Story Behind Star Fox 2, Nintendo's Most Famous Cancellation
Re: Editorial: The eShop's Pricing Dilemma is the Fault of Many, But Damages Creativity and Risk Taking
Re: Video: Christopher Lloyd Revives Doc Brown Role in New LEGO Dimensions Trailer
I love Christopher Lloyd and obviously his role as Doc Brown was one of the greatest characters in cinema. Dang you Lego for playing on my weakness for Back to the Future!
Re: Editorial: The eShop's Pricing Dilemma is the Fault of Many, But Damages Creativity and Risk Taking
Re: Horizon Chase Pays Tribute To SNES Classic Top Gear, And Is Heading To Consoles
Re: LEGO Jurassic World Brings 20 Customisable Dinos To Wii U And 3DS
I'm a huge Jurassic Park fan, so I'm going to have to buy this eventually. Though I will probably wait until the price drops. I will have to wait and get more information and videos to see if Dimensions will be worth the investment it's requiring. Though playing as Back to the Future characters is very cool, and the Wizard of Oz has got my wife's interest.
