Re: After Years Of Waiting, Metroid Prime 4's Launch Trailer Is Finally Here

ThisisJosh

@Jeronan Ditto. I picked it up anyway because we've been waiting almost a decade for it - I figured I have to at least give it a shot. I traded in a few of my duplicate games and got it for an additional $20 cash, and $20 seems about the right price point. If I had paid retail, I think I would be very disappointed. It looks incredible and runs well on Switch 2. I'm just kind of bored.

Re: The Best Nintendo Switch 2 Games

ThisisJosh

Taste and overall subjectivity aside, there is no reality in which Silksong beats out DK Bananza. Silksong is great, don't get me wrong, but I feel like recency bias is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Edit: The revised list is muuuuch closer to what I think the general consensus would be. Kudos to the author for listening to the commenters!

Re: My Nintendo Store Adds A New Donkey Kong Bananza Reward (North America)

ThisisJosh

@Don Platinum points have always just been tied to the My Nintendo missions. It was the Gold points that were earned with physical and digital purchases. Now that Gold points are defunct, buying software doesn't earn you any points. But Platinum points are super easy to earn - just check the Earn Points section on My Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch 2's GameCube Library Next Week

ThisisJosh

@Ralek85 LM1 is confirmed. It's one of the lead titles featured in the announcement trailer for the service.

Not looking forward to waiting for it. Yeah, I could just play it on my GameCube, Wii, or 3DS. And yeah, I did just play it again last month. But I want it on my shiny new Switch 2, and I want to use my shiny new NSO GameCube controller.

Re: PSA: Switch 2 Restocks Are Now Available At Multiple Stores In The US

ThisisJosh

I'm about 1.5 hours north of Philly (Lehigh Valley) and there have been units all over the place out here since launch. I don't regret standing in line at midnight, but I easily could have walked into Costco or Target and picked one up the next morning. Or event the next week. Costco still has probably around 50 MKW bundle cards ready to buy right by the entrance.

If I had the financial means and the time, I'd buy some up and resell them online at MSRP just to get them into the hands of people that really want them. I feel for y'all that haven't been able to grab one yet.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Banning Switch 2's Using MIG Cartridges

ThisisJosh

While I do agree that there are legitimate and legal uses for the device, I'm sure we can all agree that the overwhelming majority of users are using this thing for pirating. Detecting the device and locking the offending console out of online functionality deters pirates while leaving legitimate users unharmed. Any alternatives would either be more detrimental to regular customers or would give piracy more free reign.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

ThisisJosh

@sixrings Re: low scalper prices - I think that's a testament more to Nintendo's efforts in getting a good supply of units ready than it is to there being no demand. I think scalpers were speculating based on the preorder debacle and expecting PS5 launch/COVID levels of console availability, but it seems like there's just about enough to go around. Everybody I know who wanted SW2 was able to get one, and there seems to be a steady supply of them hitting shelves and online retailers daily.

Re: Mario Kart World Players Have Found A Really Easy Way To Farm Coins

ThisisJosh

Take two players into free roam, park one in front of the coin car, then move the other behind it and just forward and reverse for 30ish minutes. It's boring, but it works. I only did this because I have a Mario Kart tournament night planned this week with friends and wanted to have every kart unlocked for them, otherwise I would just be playing the game to unlock stuff. Hoping to find a way to get all of the mob/NPC characters unlocked that doesn't just involve RNG with Kamek.

Re: Opinion: Oh No, I'm Not A Fan Of Switch 2's Mouse Mode At All

ThisisJosh

Mouse mode on a flat surface is fine, like a a regular mouse. But I'm rarely ever playing Switch 1 or 2 with a flat surface in front of me. I dunno whose tree trunk legs they tested mouse mode on, but it does not work AT ALL for me. I run out of room in an instant and constantly have to pick up the Joycon 2 and reset. I'm trying to make my way through Welcome Tour and 9/10 of the minigames use mouse mode, and it is INFURIATING. Wish they would have excluded this gimmicky feature and knocked the price down a few Hamiltons.

Re: PSA: My Nintendo Store Switch 2 Invites Are Starting To Roll Out

ThisisJosh

@marktehshark69 You won't find one on the shelf for months, if not well over a year depending on tariffs and supply chain issues that arise from them. You'll have to watch the stock alert websites like a hawk, keep your Wario64 post alerts on, find out all the little tricks on Reddit for seeing store stock before items get put out on shelves, pray to about a dozen deities, etc.

Re: Best Twin-Stick Shooters On Nintendo Switch

ThisisJosh

Binding of Isaac was my entry into the genre. It was one of the first physical releases available for Switch so I bought it on a whim just to have something to play. I was instantly hooked. Now it's my most played game of all time and I love twin stick rogue shooters.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2

ThisisJosh

@J_C Sorry to hear, friend. If you have BofA or Capital One, your card won't work. You'll have to call tomorrow to unlock it. They're both overloaded right now with "fraudulent" Target charges for around $500 so they've just shut everything down for the next few hours.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2

ThisisJosh

Had one on my cart at Walmart. Tried to place the order with the clock ticking and had to do the "hold button to verify". Verified, got the checkmark, and then 3 loading dots while the countdown went to 00:00. If it weren't 1am I would be punching my desk in half right now.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2

ThisisJosh

Had one in my cart with Target, but they charge your card and reverse the charge with each checkout attempt. So, of course, my debit card is flagged for fraud. On hold with my bank for 40 minutes and they finally pick up and tell me their systems are down ("looks like everyone is trying to make the same purchase") and they won't be able to lift the restriction on my account until 2 hours from now. Now the Switch in my Target cart is gone and my bank account is locked until tomorrow for fraud. Such a great experience.

Re: Nintendo Music Adds Luigi's Spooky GameCube Soundtrack, Here's Every Song Included

ThisisJosh

I really appreciate all of the Luigi's Mansion love from Nintendo recently. Even though the original is a legendary GC staple, the games are always well received, and the franchise has its devoted following, I still feel like Luigi's Mansion is severely underrated overall.

Loving Nintendo Music as well. I didn't think I would be so into it, but I honestly use it almost as often as I use Spotify.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Says Tariffs "Not Factored" Into Switch 2 Price

ThisisJosh

@Debo626 The policies from this admin touch everybody's lives. I've seen friends' lives destroyed in the past 3 months over decisions made on a whim. If having my hobby be harmed or be made more expensive is what it takes for some people to finally start caring and getting mad, then I say bring on the $700 Switch 2 price tag. Bring on the delays.

@anoyonmus Vietnam offered, and the WH declined and said it wasn't enough. This situation is going to change a thousand times before Switch 2 launches because this administration makes decisions on a whim based on feelings and the ramblings of a geriatric megalomaniac with the emotional restraint of a toddler. I will be surprised if our launch date doesn't just get pushed back indefinitely.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

ThisisJosh

The hardware exceeded my expectations, and we already had a pretty decent idea of the hardware from the leak response teaser. Already a guaranteed preorder for me. Mario Kart World also exceeded my expectations and pushed this from guaranteed preorder to "I NEED THIS RIGHT NOW." The rest of the Direct could've been a static Mario PNG and this is still 10/10 for me. Actually, the promise of Luigi's Mansion 1 on a Switch makes it 11/10.

Re: Best Zelda Games Of All Time

ThisisJosh

@Znake @Mrkittyhead Tears sacrificed so much of what made BOTW special in service of the Ultrahand mechanic. Puzzles, exploration, combat - all of it got tied to building and tinkering with these pieces and devices. People who like tinkering with that kind of stuff got BOTW+, while the rest of us got a pared down version of the game we love, where everything became infinitely more tedious.

And if you add in the main map being recycled, and the new map additions being a handful of sky islands and the most tedious and dreary slog of an underground world, and you get a lot of people who see TOTK as the lesser version of the game. I 100%ed BOTW and played through it probably a dozen times, while I haven't even finished TOTK.

Re: Soapbox: Six Months Later, Tears Of The Kingdom's Sense Of Wonder Is Still Unmatched

ThisisJosh

The fact that the zonai building system works as well as it does without many, if any, major bugs - that is an achievement worth celebrating. But as somebody who had absolutely zero desire to tinker or collect zonai tech pieces, the focus of the entire game shifting over to this new building system made TOTK an absolute chore. Everything from combat to shrine puzzles to fetch quests to navigating the skies and underground to the absolute core hook of this LoZ branch of games - exploration - was tied into this one new element of gameplay. And those who were into it got their GOTY sequel. And those who didn't care for it got the game they fell in love with 6 years ago minus all of the mystery and freedom of exploration.

Re: Deals: Incredibly, These Zelda And Metroid amiibo Are Down To Just $5 Right Now

ThisisJosh

I love how they'll produce millions of units for these characters & sets that nobody wants, but you have to call out sick from work to have a chance at getting the Smash or Splatoon reprints.

The amount of these two sets sitting in my local stores reminds me of the Animal Crossing amiibo choking the shelves for 2 years. Then they dropped the clearance price to $1-3/figure and New Horizons became a preorder behemoth. They were all gone within a few days. 😂

Re: Super Nintendo World's Mario Kart Ride Has A "Waistline" Limit (US)

ThisisJosh

@daveMcFlave I'm not arguing the healthiness or unhealthiness of being overweight, or nature vs. behavior, or personal responsibility vs. the system, or any other idea larger and more consequential than this: Americans are bigger, so you should make your expensive American amusement park ride accessible for bigger people. That's it. My rhetorical question was just that - rhetorical, in an attempt to contrast all of the voices in here confidently saying that this absolutely is not fatphobia with my own "well maybe it could be?"

@TioRogerio Immaterial to my argument. The ride was developed and tested for a certain weight range and body size range for the Japanese park. They knew they were bringing this ride to two American parks for YEARS. Everybody knows Americans are bigger than the global average. So why couldn't the ride be redesigned and retested for larger bodies?

Is it fatphobia? Is it cost cutting? Or is it just incompetence? None of us know. But it's definitely dumb as hell and inconsiderate.

Re: Super Nintendo World's Mario Kart Ride Has A "Waistline" Limit (US)

ThisisJosh

@TioRogerio Dig one layer deeper. If it's common knowledge that Americans are bigger than global average, and that Americans have a higher obesity rate than global average, and you're making a custom built amusement park ride FOR AMERICA but refuse to adapt the ride to accomodate bigger bodies - is that not exclusionary or fatphobic? It's not like this is some traveling carnival kit ride that you can order online. This is a custom built ride that probably costs tens of millions of dollars. They couldn't take an extra few weeks to make some changes to the ride so that that won't have to turn away half of their guests?

Re: Super Nintendo World's Mario Kart Ride Has A "Waistline" Limit (US)

ThisisJosh

@MetalKingShield Ditto. I was 32" during the worst years of my eating disorder and I'm only 6' tall. Hair falling out from malnutrition and still 32". Americans are just bigger on average, not even taking into account excess body weight. That's just how it is. I don't understand how a ride like this even got past the planning stages without considering altering the ride to accomodate larger passengers. And I also don't understand how a multibillion-dollar, multinational company with a PR army could let a statement like that get out when common sense would alert even the most tech adverse among us that it's going to start a s***storm online. Just poorly handled all around.

Re: Random: GoldenEye 007 Composer Reckons "Old Team" Would Have Done A Better Job On Emulation

ThisisJosh

@gloom Ditto. Was pumped to play this since the announcement but I can't deal with the controls. And the solutions I can find online are "just deal with it", buy the overpriced N64 controller that sells out instantly every time stock is available, or use one of the alternate configurations while holding your joycons in opposite hands in docked mode.

C'mon, Nintendo. We're used to getting nickeled-and-dimed and drip fed lackluster content, but it's 2023. You really can't give us button mapping?

Re: Random: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Trick Gets You All Korok Seeds In 10 Minutes

ThisisJosh

@Shambo @YessMasster Some people are neurodivergent and get joy out of games in different ways. Some people enjoy the feeling of absolutely mastering a game by finding every possible shortcut and exploit. Some people like to take their time and explore. Some people only care about the story, while others only care about the game mechanics. Everybody is different and none of this is weird at all. It's how the gaming community has always been.

Re: Niantic Provides Context Behind Pokémon Go Community Day Changes

ThisisJosh

It doesn't matter what the philosophy behind the game is or was - people don't really play it that way. Nobody complained about the changes made to the game due to COVID. Even the most gregarious and active players with all the free time in the world benefited. So why roll back? It's less money in Niantic's pockets and it alienates and annoys a ton of your players. Make the game more accessible - not less. Make your company more money - not less. This decision is just stupid all around, and just flat out cruel to those with physical disabilities.
