Strange to see the Rabbids games in a list of RPGs. Also strange to see the the bottom game, Sticker Star, have more staff praise than games much higher on the list. Oh well, opinions. Btw, might wanna update some of these entries. Bowser Inside Story on 3DS mentions the upcoming Extra Epic Yarn, a game that has been out for years.
Having an opinion on the price is no less valuable than having an opinions on graphics, controls, etc. A review by definition is subjective. Those saying a review shouldn't factor price must quickly be running out of options on where to read reviews, as the majority nowadays do factor cost. Kudos to this reviewer for calling it out, and shame on some of these critical comments.
Hmmm … I quite enjoyed LAYTON'S MYSTERY JOURNEY: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy – Deluxe Edition. In fact, it's one of my favorite games on the Switch!
I actually thought the smaller case structure built up nicely to the larger case; different, but just as good imho. The soundtrack also had plenty of charm.
With more puzzles than the previous games, I'd suggest anyone sitting on the fence give it a look. That said, I feel bad for those who didn't connect with Katrielle as I did. That being the case (and if you didn't care for Layton vs. Wright), it has been a long time.
@Rykdrew, I'm not knocking your passion for this game, but some of your examples do no favors. Big Brain Academy only has 30 mins of content?! Switch Sports just 1 hour?! Maybe they were typos on your part...
Still playing the TMNT Cowabunga Collection. Finally tried online yesterday. To say its subpar is putting it mildly, but I still had fun, even if it runs as smooth as sandpaper.
@sketchturner CK's algorithm was set up to adjust to player skill. It's been a while since I've played it, but it does work that way, even if saying 'the solution is to play badly' oversimplifies the design.
As for this game, not my cup of tea, but those who aren't burnt out on games of this style might like it.
@TheFox In fairness, first party games are usually high quality. I've seen plenty of scores south of 5 on NL. In any case, one of their staffers would be better to comment on the scoring policy than I would.
@Lyricana If 6 is bad for you personally, that's fair. I was just pointing that I agree with the earlier commenter, that 6 is not (nor ever has) been bad by NL scoring policy.
Not sure what excites more...a potential Gex comeback, or the 3DO memories in this thread. Such a underrated console, and Crystal Dynamics did great work.
ABC Murders was good. Not great, but good. I wish NL had a review so I could compare their thoughts with the other reviews on MC. As for this game, I'm adding it to my wishlist.
Great article! Can't disagree, especially with those examples. I love me some chiptune, but the orchestrated tracks in Galaxy and Skyward Sword are tough to beat.
Great game with some of the best 3D I've seen. Unlike many players seems, I never had much use for the melee counter and beat the game using it quite sparingly. It did look cool though, even if it wasn't essential.
How did I forget the Syberia trilogy? Granted, only the first two would fit this list, but they also come recommended. Woulda been nice to at least see the first one make this list.
Some others worth a shout out (in no special order) are the Edna & Harvey Games, The Journey Down Trilogy, Detective Gallo, and The Little Acre. The Switch has lots of hidden gems in this genre.
@scully1888 Actually, it was pretty widely praised at the time for being fun - the game has a cool history, definitely worth reading up on. It's totally fine if you don't like it as much as others, of course, but it does nothing to change its reception back in the day. I think that's what some are objecting to. Not your opinion, but what seems to be an attempt at revisionist history. Those of us who are old enough know better, and a cursory internet search helps the younger gamers know likewise.
Nobody likes a delay, but Chicken Wiggle was already a great game on 3DS so it should be great on Switch as well. Hopefully, the gaps in communication shrink. I'm pleasantly surprised, and excited, about stretch goals being added.
I've sunk approx. 40 hours into Odyssey so far, collecting 600 moons or so. The game reminds me of why I loved 64 & Sunshine, and what I really missed from Galaxy.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Not only is it not strange, I'd suggest it's a common practice. Many (if not most) outlets have multiple sets of staff eyes on reviews, especially for big releases like this. It makes for better writing.
@gaga64 I noticed this ... and I fail to see the logic behind it. I wish the NL staff was consistent in how they dealt with comments. Deleting polite questions (as opposed to simply answering them) is something readers pick up on. Such a shame ...
@UmbreonsPapa Not sure I can agree with that. I doubt Nintendo wants to potentially lose customers based on factors like where they live, if they commute, etc.
@bolt05 "but the sales arent nor werent strong..."
Really?
Given the Wii U's lower installed based, I'd say some of the sales #'s are especially strong. Overall this list is made up of more strong sellers than not.
@Bolt_Strike "And if you're doing all of that the same as the last game, how can you call it a good game that's fulfilling its purpose to entertain?"
Well, if the last game was good ...
I hear you about innovation, but many find classic, familiar platforming entertaining. Obviously some (like yourself) are growing tired of it. But as long as sales are strong ...
I'll end by encouraging to please consider checking at least once more. Even if only to see for yourself the type of consistent activity the online community has at present.
Whether your score changes or not (the game is quite buggy) you can at least have an informed decision on it, rather than one based, in part, on assumption.
@Ultimategamer132 That's exactly it. Any chance you can play some of the online portion @leemeyer26? As you said it's a "major feature" and since there are indeed people online, it seems only fair to try it.
Or at the very least, delete your sentence about 'not being able to find anyone online'. The game has plenty of ways it comes up short, but an inactive online community is demonstrably not one of them.
It ranges from 20-40 players every time I login - there's 21 as I'm typing this.

Preordered The Journey Down Trilogy from them in September... of 2022! Still waiting.

Nathan, that was quite an enjoyable read. Thank you for sharing, and getting me to reflect back on making homemade maps playing Metroid NES as a kid.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Rayman Advance
This poll would've been more interesting with the Rayman 10th anniversary GBA box.
Re: Best Nintendo Pinball Games
While it is a tad odd to limit this list to first party, that is the reason many game suggested in the comments are missing.

@JohnnyC It's the opposite for me. Never heard as one word growing up; always letters. I think it'a one of those regional oddities.
I'm excited for this game, and hope it comes with some fun preorder bonuses.

@HeadPirate Well said, and I completely agree. Opening to the public marked the beginning of the end.

Re: Review: SEGA AGES Space Harrier - A Tremendous Port Of An Okay Coin-Op
"A fantastic port, then, but one of a game that was only ever considered decent even back in the day."
This is demonstrably untrue. By and large Space Harrier was (and still is) considered a classic. To call it "decent" ignores the game's history.

This strikes me as beyond odd. Often times I can't get online because it is FULL of players. In fact, checking right now, I see dozens online!
