Re: Review: Kung Fu Rabbit (3DS eShop)

Well, Kung Fu Rabbit does repeatedly prompt you to buy powerups from the dojo with carrots - it carries over from the mobile release, and feels unnecessary. I don't need to be told after each level, particularly early on when powerups aren't even needed to make progress. Some may think it a minor annoyance, and perhaps it is ultimately. But it screams mobile port through and through.

Re: Review: Kung Fu Rabbit (3DS eShop)

If you do decide to get this game, definitely go with the HD visuals of the Wii U. This 3DS port doesn't use 3D in anyway, despite the fact that the levels are so well suited for it.

Re: Review: Ikachan (3DS eShop)

Bought this when it was on sale recently. Took me about 1 1/2 hours to beat. It's a fun game in spite of its short length, and I really enjoyed it.

Re: Review: Tales to Enjoy! The Ugly Duckling (DSiWare)

TG1

"The efforts divided among multiple projects should have been focused on making one competent title, instead. But regrettably, that’s not how it went down."

These were actually bundled together as a retail release prior, and are just now being broke up for the eShop. I wonder if some compromises (cuts in speech, fequent load times) are the result of a move from tangible media to the limited memory of DSiWare?

Re: Review: Myst (3DS)

TG1

I appreciate the review. One question ... is this basically a pot of the DS original from 2007? Or is it a port of the updated DS version published by Storm City Games in 2010?

Re: Review: AiRace Speed (3DS eShop)

TG1

@WinterWarm I agree it is a bit confusing. He seems to be comparing this game to both AiRace & AiRace Tunnel equally, rather than just the latter. That unique perspective probably accounts for the 7, as they are clearly very different games.

Re: Review: Letter Challenge (DSiWare)

TG1

Actually the soundtrack has (at least) 3 different unique tunes. You can select them from your profile by going to theme. This also changes the background graphics.

Word Wizard 3D for the 3DS is this same game, with a few mild enhancements.

Re: Review: DuckTales: Remastered (Wii U eShop)

TG1

@moroboshi Not sure what review(s) you've read so far, but your statement isn't accurate. The game has gotten a bunch of positive reviews! You suggest checking Metacritic ... well, the game (so far) has gotten 80 out of 100 from critics, and 8.4 from users. Checking Metacritic shows that you are mistaken.

Re: Feature: When it Comes to Games, What's in a Name?

TG1

Fun article, although I certainly disagree with Resident Evil ... at least you admit the controversy in your claim. I remember the "iconic name" getting made fun of quite a bit back in 1996. The game was a success in spite of it's goofy name, not because of it. Biohazard certainly makes more sense to the story & settings of the original games ... score 1 for Japan!

Re: Miyamoto: Fresh Experiences Make A New Game, Not New Characters

TG1

Certainly within Nintendo, we have people internally who are saying, "Well, we have our old characters from our old games, and that's old IP, and we should think about creating new IP."

It's one thing if it's just from the gaming fans ... but when Nintendo's own staff are trying to encourage new IP's, it's time the Big N start giving it more serious consideration.

Re: Pachter: Nintendo Has Lost Its "Mojo"

TG1

It seems like every time Patcher opens his mouth about Nintendo (even if what he says is the same thing he's been saying for months) Nintendo Life decides it is news ... I join in with the majority of your reader's who've commented in asking, is this really neccesary? Or are these articles simply a means for more comments which are usually solicited anyway?

Re: Iwata Says He Didn't Commit to Stepping Down Over Missed Profit Targets

TG1

"At the time, Satoru Iwata described it as a personal commitment, which was widely interpreted — sensibly considering the context — to mean that Nintendo's President was making the target an integral part of him retaining his post."

I don't think it was sensible interpretation to begin with. In any event, I'm not surprised.

Re: Nintendo Defends Influx of New Mario Titles

TG1

"You could call all the games that we're making here new IP in the sense that they're new gameplay experiences. They just happen to also have the IP that people associate with."

Few gamers will though. Even a lifelong Nintendo fan like myself feels the market is oversaturated with Mario games. If Nintendo is going to make the effort to make "new gameplay experiences" (and I'd argue very little is new in the NSMB series) why not go the distance and create some genuinely new IP's? Even if Nintendo feels the need to use exixting IP's as a crutch due to financial fears, aren't there others besides Mario? I mean, how many Mario games have been announced (or have already been released ) for the Wii U & 3DS already?

Re: PES 2014 Will Not Be Dispensed On Wii U

TG1

You'd think Konami would see the increased potential given EA's lack of a Fifa entry ... while some would buy it because it was the only option available on Wii, U I bet others would buy to stick it to EA as it were. They should seize the chance while they have the market to themselves, as it surely won't last.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Virtual Boy

TG1

I bought my VB from Blockbuster video for $30. I had fun with it over the years, and never got a headache ... the whole headache thing has been very exaggerated, especially in recent years. A shame that working VB's are so hard to find now ... because of the glue giving out it's only a matter of time until even the best need repair. I'd love to see some of the better VB games come to the 3DS!
