Re: Round Up: It's April Fools' Day, Here Are The Best Gaming Gags We've Seen

Swiftstorm

For anyone not Danish, watching the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter's Pass Vol. 3 trailer. That guy Navn Mand (Name Man) is talking about how he needs to pass time to make it seem like he is talking about the game. Then he continues on about how he took a picture of grass as he wasn't sure if that normally is green, then talks about farting and then a visit to his doctor. Smooth πŸ˜…

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2021

Swiftstorm

Give me Burnout 3, Portal, RDR, Fable 2, Crackdown, Hunters 2 (from the Warhammer Quest guys - on iOS), and Elder Scrolls Online and I will be a very happy Switch owner.

And yes several reasons why especially the last one might not happen, but one can dream πŸ˜…

Re: No Pain, Just Game - Healthy Gaming Tips To Help Avoid Common Aches And Pains

Swiftstorm

One thing that is the main reason I play Switch (apart from loving the system). I have a shoulder injury, which means holding my hands in the same position for prolonged play sessions will hurt. So the Joycons are great as I can change position and how I keep my arms during play to avoid that. I guess you covered it with "avoid repetitive motions", so just sharing my personal experience.

Also great to see an article like this!

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Arguing Switch Joy-Con Drift "Isn't A Real Problem"

Swiftstorm

Hahaha not a problem?
I have had five Joycon issues so far on five different left side JoyCons. And I take good care of mine. In the same period no issues with my PS controllers or other hardware.

I still love my Switch

Glad I got mine at Elgiganten (DK retailer) as they send them in, and extend the warranty each time). So never really cost me more than a bit of time over the three years or so (apart from needing to have an extra spare).

Re: Review: Vigor - Stealthy Scavenging Marred By Technical Issues

Swiftstorm

Love this game. Currently my most played Switch game. Not as a shooter, but as a stealth game. I love the gameplay loop here. On a technical side textures are an issue, but to me the style and atmosphere makes up for it just enough for it to be acceptable. Great review. I would probably rate it 8/10 - and as a pure shooter the 6/10 seems spot on.

Re: Feature: Best Switch Ports - The Most Impressive Ports On Nintendo Switch

Swiftstorm

@TG16_IS_BAE ... actually an odd argument here. But the reason I prefer Switch is due to three spinal injuries, and needing to hold my arms in a fixed position hurts like hell after awhile. So the Joycons are amazing.

Btw. not looking for pity as I run, lift weights, hike and do all other normal stuff but my limited time with a mouse/keyboard is spend on working hours and a controller is really bad for me.

So a different angle on why I prefer Switch.

The "Switch tax" though and seeing my PS4pro gather dust. Oh my... that sucks.

Re: Crysis Remastered Switch eShop File Size Revealed

@TG16_IS_BAE

Not having to have different texture qualities in the package for different formats and specs is a way to get file size down.

But GPU's and engines get better in, what is it 13 years, since the original? And that significantly reduces the amount of actual code/data needed for handling images.

And to unpack compressed data we have much more CPU/GPU power now, so we can compress files harder as unpacking won't slow us down as it used to.

So file size - and especially not between formats - is really not the way to compare.

But none of us really know about this specific game until we see the result. Not you, not me. So it feels unfair to bash the title based on assumptions.

If it is worse, I'll be happy to join your crusade

There's a fine article on some of the basics of compression on 100tb if you are curious. Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but here's the link: https://blog.100tb.com/image-compression-strategies-for-game-developers

Re: Crysis Remastered Switch eShop File Size Revealed

@Tonyo Not at all. And the only one insulting anyone is you, by using terms as fanboy, bootlicking etc.

Just accept that people have different opinions.

The definition of a remaster still stays.

You can agree or disagree with buying the game. And that's your call as well as mine. I'm still not sure I need this game in my Switch collection. But I wait until I have actually seen the game before passing any judgement, so should you.

Re: Crysis Remastered Switch eShop File Size Revealed

"remaster - Computer Definition
To create a new version from the original. It may refer to audio, video or film remastering, in which the original recording or film is located and becomes the input to more modern or sophisticated editing and publishing processes. It may also refer to software remastering, which enhances a version of source code for distribution to a new audience."

So yes this is a remaster. File size is little indication of how well it has been compressed. If for example certain items in the original was being drawn while not visible, you can get better fidelity with lower file size, by not drawing those, by optimizing the code and by using newer tools. No need to bloat a file size to make people think it gives more bang for the buck.

But TG16 based on your reasoning so far, I guess you have decided how you feel and no logic or arguments can make you change your mind?

Nothing to do with corporate bootlicking, just sticking with facts and possibly ways as to how this remaster is indeed that - which by definition it is in the moving of format no matter improvements - instead of assumptions based on a lack of programming understanding. Otherwise we are back to the golden days of Amiga gaming where people assumed a game was big based on the amounts of discs. Which resulted in devs no longer compiled code well, as to up the number of discs. Now that was a rotten practise. Much more than calling a remaster a remaster, even if you interpret that word in a different way.

Remaster does not mean improved. It means remastered. And often improvements happen with a remaster. Too early to say here. And in no way possible to say by something as simple as file size comparisons between systems.

Personally I'm looking forward to this... remaster.

Re: Review: BioShock: The Collection - Three Of The Best Single-Player Shooters Ever, All In One Place

Swiftstorm

@PlayedNSlayed I know you didn't ask me. But I suppose it doesn't hurt to tell you my opinion. Get the full Borderlands collection.

1 has a certain charming vibe and slower pace as well as more random loot. Plus some of the DLC is great. Which makes it my favourite and the one I keep returning to.

Pre-quel has fun new mechanics, and the story I like the best.

2 is well done, very varied, but I find the loot system more uhm... dull.

I wouldn't want to miss any of the games for those reasons. I play solo btw

As for Bioshock I was happy only to revisit the first. And the pricing for the collection vs each game made it easier to go for one at a time, where savings on BL is better for the collection.

Re: Review: Borderlands Legendary Collection - A Triple-Helping Of Classic FPS Action

Swiftstorm

I'm having a blast again on Switch. My PS4Pro must be thinking I'm insane with it already on there. But there's just something extremely satisfying with playing it on Switch. Great port, great games (yes I love the less loved Pre-sequel one a lot). YAY!

Also I recommend getting all three. 1 for it's more quiet and vanilla tone + the excellent DLC, middle for some fun crazy mechanics and 2 for just an all-round solid game.
