There's been evidence of Journey to the Savage Planet coming to the Nintendo Switch for some time now, and today 505 Games have finally made it official. Not only has it been confirmed for the hybrid device, but it's also out today (worldwide) on the Switch eShop. Well, everywhere but Russia, which will receive the game on 28th May.
If you would prefer a physical release, it'll be appearing in-store next month on 25th June. Indivisible is receiving the same treatment. Here's the official announcement:
Journey to the Savage Planet is a sci-fi adventure first-person shooter requiring you to explore an uncharted planet to see if it's fit for human colonization. You can play the game solo or online with a friend, and the game requires 2.3 GB of free space.
This sudden release follows on from Nintendo's own surprise reveal of Paper Mario: The Origami King last week.
Earlier this week, we also heard about how Nintendo had supposedly told its development partners with "big" announcements to not wait around for the next Direct, as it had no plans "at all" right now.
Do you think this game was planned for a Direct? Will you be downloading it or purchasing a physical copy? Tell us below.

@brandonbwii You're going to be disappointed if you're expecting this site to always be first, or ever first. They usually source their info from other places.
Calm down everyone?
Hardly a big deal.
BUT IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT RANDOM PERSON 37 WAS FIRST!!!!!
@bl4ckbl00d Woah chill. I was just stating a fact and giving a shout out to a rather entertaining person.
@spurryitboi I’ve been playing it for a few hours now and it has been great so far. No noticeable performance issues to speak of. A few frame drops here and there but nothing significant — not more than you’re used to in other Switch titles. And it looks fantastic in my opinion.
Note: I’ve only played in handheld so far, so I can’t comment on docked performance and visuals yet.
It’s actually really good. It runs smoothly and looks great. Plays great too. I hadn’t played it until I got it on Switch. Very fun game.
Ain't this site from Europe?they are 5 hours ahead of us.so yes time frame being different would be the reason they are behind on news by afew hours
Look like another port thatll just end up with bad graphics and a huge download size
This is a really awesome surprise. I might have to pick this game up soon.
Great game. Companies that port their games over to the Switch get my respect (looking at you with a sneer, Activision, EA and Rockstar).
The PS4 version is $30 physical. Please don't let there be "Switch tax" on this one...
@Bizzyb It's $29.99 on the eShop. Not sure what the physical version will be price wise.
@Nerdfather1 I played this on Xbox and it’s really great. The humor and charm is what totally makes it for me with the snarky AI on the ship, parody commercials and other small details. The gameplay actually reminded me of Metroid Prime in a lot of ways.
It's 29.99 for the physical copy on Amazon. Says avail 06/30
Surprise drop?
Hmm, smells like it was supposed to be a direct.
A good place to see if a game is coming to the Switch is Amazon. They will post a listing up and 9 times out of 10 they are correct.
Hmm I suppose I'll pick up this and Indivisible physically next month. Add them to the list.
For future reference: Some of us don't get our news from YouTube, so telling us that you heard it there first isn't helpful or impressive.
For me its new news, i dont scroll youtube haha.
So thanks for the heads up Nintendo Life.
Was a hair away from picking this up on PC, but didnt want to because I thought there was talk of a port. Guess I heard right, and the port seems to be great! Will grab on switch for sure. Only way I'll end up finishing it.
@Blooper987 Based on what? The article itself mentions that the game is 2.3 GB (which is not that big all things considered), and people who commented before you who have already played it on Switch said that it looks great. So I'm not sure where you're coming from with that comment.
The physical is "Not available in my area" says Amazon UK, well ill keep an eye until closer to release date.
But looks great fun.
Now for the most important question... Does the game have gyro aiming?
What a great surprise!! I want this game very badly, the Metroid Prime vibes (mixed with humour) are strong in this one.
@RPGamer @brandonbwii You realise we're mainly based in Europe, right? Which is quite a few hours ahead of the US. That means it's unavoidable that, at some points, news is going to break when we're asleep. Liam is our Aussie correspondent and he comes on right in the middle of when most of our team is asleep, which is why with some stuff, we might be a little bit later than US-based teams - just as we're ahead of US teams when we cover news which breaks early UK-time. Not that you'd find us pointing that out whenever it happens, of course.
@Damo Meow! 🐾🙀
Hours? We've had to wait hours for this news? Oh the horror. The unendurable deprivation.
Next you'll be telling us NintendoLife won't be buying us a pony for Christmas.
Looks like a good game. Ill wait for the physical release.
That's all well and good but were Nintendo Life first with this news? I don't think so.
We all know that news is only news when it's new. I mean surely that's obvious right? And/or if we hear it from a random minor YouTuber.
Any other time. Even if most people haven't heard it before, it's clearly not news to them because the insignificant YouTuber said it first. It doesn't matter whether you or I saw them say it. It's just not news. Best leave it to the YouTuber and shut up shop NL.
In other news. The actual game is really good. I played it a lot in coop on PC and will definitely grab it on Switch too. It's a pretty special game imo
Online? Single or co-op? Voice chat? What’s the score?
Another space mining exploration game, i think that i want to play, that i will buy and never play.
I feel it's misleading and a crap move by the dev that all screens show 3rd person as it seems it is 1st only. What a shame, it looks great.
It is strictly 1st, right - and not changeable as in Skyrim?
@Lord You'll know the score when the review arrives lol. About the rest, yes, coop with a friend, online or LAN.
@RPGamer No worries!
@Damo Touché 😉
To anyone who’s played this- is this along the lines of No Man’s Sky? Ultimately I found that game to be too large for my liking. If this was a condensed, more story driven experience I’d be on board.
I am generally not a fan of the FPS genre, however, this game looks pretty fun and interesting. I'm probably going to give it a shot. Pun intended.
@status-204 Thanks! I might give this a try then.
Great game. Been playing on xcloud free but may pick up for switch too.
@brandonbwii I see people responding to your comment, but no comment. Is Nintendolife really this quick to delete comments that people don't like? I like discussions, not e ho chambers.
@status-204 I'm currently playing this on the PS4 and it is a rock solid experience. It's very frustrating to see how most game reviews on the Switch have to add caveats about framerate and other issues. This is a problem that will only get worse as developers turn their focus on the more powerful PS5 and NextBox.
@Ambassador_Kong I’m first comment.
Just picked it up, honestly it’s premise is more than enjoyable enough to overcome the few performance issues.
The frame rate drops really aren’t all that noticeable and haven’t effected my experience adversely much to at all.
I will say that enemies in the distance get pixelated and their movement looks erratic. Particularly the flying squid things. Everything else thus far has been fine.
The game is vibrant and the loop is enjoyable and simple. Light combat, heavy exploration with a dash of humor for good measure. If you are a performance snob pick it up on another console otherwise this version is A-Ok by me. So far in my two-three hours with the game I’d go so far as to say a pleasant pick up and well worth the money.
7.5 of 10
@BenAV Unfortunately, no gyro.
@coldfusion167 Thanks for the answer. That's a pass for me then.
Yes, made it to the first area, got the jump pack and a handful of other upgrades. I’ve also been playing in handheld I don’t know if that makes a difference but so far no headaches just periodic blips of well that could’ve looked better.
If you climb on top of the wall of the 1st world and look over the edge the clouds are straight pixels. Paper thin and ugly as sin lol.
It’s also possible that given I don’t walk headlong into hordes of enemies and prefer to snipe them that I never give the game much of a chance to overload itself and haven’t really been hit by the frame rate concerns. @status-204
@brandonbwii Nope. @Kalmaro is the first comment. I guess you said something people didn't like and the mods deleted you. Happens quite a bit here.
@Ambassador_Kong The comment was up there for a while. I didn't notice it get removed that quickly.
It was mostly him dissing Nintendo Life for being slow about getting news out, iirc.
People probably saw that as off topic or baiting... speaking of which, I probably shouldn't even be talking about it
