The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D is so close that we're hallucinating about the real moon plummeting to Earth, and Nintendo has released another video to show off how the new entry takes advantage of the 3DS hardware. In this case it's reprising the rather effective gyroscope aiming controls that we saw in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
As was the case in a video following last week's Nintendo Direct broadcasts, it's series producer Eiji Aonuma that appears to show off the upcoming release. In this case Aonuma-san tackles the Clock Town Shooting Gallery, rapidly moving the system to aim and doing a thoroughly respectable job in the process. He's using the New Nintendo 3DS, which we hope will allow us to keep 3D on while moving the system around.
Check it out below.
As a bonus, in case you missed it in our Nintendo Direct announcement article, below is the previous 15-minute video of Aonuma-san showing off the upcoming adventure.
Are you hyped for this, on the fence or not interested? Let us know.

FaZe Aonuma..................... xD
I really like Gyroscope aiming to be honest, well, at least when its done by moving the screen around, and not like it was done in Skyward Sword, you get the idea.
Aim in the general direction with the stick and finetune you aim quickly via gyroscope.
that'll be the first thing I'll turn off. I never liked motion controls in any game.
Winning all archery minigames was HARD on the N64.
Ocarina 3D made it a lot less frustrating to win the horse archery minigame. I hope it helps in Majora as well.
Thank you!
I will buy it for this, and I will not buy any game, where there is aiming and no gyro controls.
It looked slower to aim in the video
When I played it, on N64 I was able to aim faster. get 50 first and second time
This looks really good ^^
I hope the rest of the game can live up to the original ^^
Although I overlooked gyro controls in OOT 3D, I enjoyed them much more than I expected in Wind Waker HD. They didn't totally replace the analogue stick, but it was nice to use gyro-assistance to nudge the aiming here and there.
Meh on gyroscopic controls.
OOT3D's gyroscope controls were probably the best controls I'd ever used in any video game. I could 360 no scope a bat from a mile away, when I normally can't play from a first-person shooting perspective at all.
And I can use gyro controls with the 3D on with no problem. Just move your head a little.
I really don't like motion controls but they were at least functional in OOT. Wind Waker was pretty good too. I will always prefer not to use it though.
@TruenoGT You could aim by moving the gyroscope around, or by using the analog stick.
Yup. I'll definitely be turning that off.
@Einherjar
As someone who is used to keyboard and mouse, gyro is the only way I could play shooters on consoles. Metroid Prime (wiimote nunchuk) and Captain Toad (gamepad gyro) works perfectly fine for me. I can't stand using the sticks.
@WaveyChristmas I've been replaying RE Revelations eversince I received my n3ds now, and the gyro is near perfect, even with 3d at max on the system AND in the options menu.
Also, WWHD was PERFECT, dual analog and gyro combined, it's how I want to see a new Metroid game.
Looks good, but I did find the gyro aiming in Ocarina 3D a tad frustrating at times.
My main question though is where can I get one of those cables from that puts the 3DS display on a big TV?
I tried putting on the automatic translator for one of these videos, once. It was so bad, I got no new information.
The controls were great in OOT. Glad they are doing that again.
One of the features I'm looking forward to playing MM with this time around. Also looking forward to using it while still playing in 3D
HAHA watch with CC on, it's funny how it translated..
@Shambo I constantly rave about the gyro assistance with aiming in WW. It was implemented exactly how it should have been, which added fluidity to a lot of areas. A new Metroid game with the same types of controls sounds like a dream.
Yeah I'm not using this lol
@WaveyChristmas Monkey Ball will benefit from the New 3DS so much! I bought it a while back, and I liked it a lot, but that game doesn't work with both 3d and gyro on, so I decided to wait until the N3ds.
Being able to use both 3d and gyro in all games is my no. 1 feature on the New 3DS.
I will also get Revelations 3DS version particularly for the gyro aiming! (Really shame, that the Wii U version didn't use it)
My only question is if the gyro controls will be turned off when you L-target anything. I ended up turning them off in Ocarina 3D because it was annoying to run aroung while holding L as the view would slant when the 3ds was moved and it would un-center Link.
I can't believe the game is only 23 days away!
Aiming with the gyroscope, one of the little additions that made OoT 3D perfect
I love how Aonuma says he sucks and then gets a nearly perfect score, bahaha.
By the way, I for one enjoy gyroscopic control. I find it intuitive and far faster than a slider if used well. Perfect for this kind of mini-game in particular, really.
@BensonUii Metroid Prime Trilogy doesnt use the gyro sensor though, it uses the the sensor bar / pointer. Thats exactly the pet peeve i had with Skyward sword.
Example:
In Metroid, pointing at the center of the screen is, well, always the center of the screen.
In SW though, it uses the gyro sensor. What that means is, if you aim outside of the screen decenters your aim. Man, this is hard to explain.
say, your pointing half your screen length away from your TV. Your crosshair is still on the edge of your screen. So to center it, you basically had to aim at the outer rim.
I hope that many any sense
I was really funny to see him get nervous as he tried to get all 50.
So, I know they've greatly improved the stability of the 3D along the horizontal axis but what's it like if you tilt the system vertically?
Is it really now great for playing basically any 3D game; even those that ask you to move the 3DS around in all directions a lot?
I like the fact Eiji didn't stop until he got all 50 red squids. Shame their wasn't any English subtitles.
Hello, I see that Amazon UK are stocking Zelda Special edition,( region locked of course). Looks a little suspicious in one or two ways, do you think Amazon got a special deal, or got details wrong? Got my order in but a bit confused.
@WaveyChristmas
Hmmm,
To be honest, I was suspicious this might be the case, given the particular solution they've come up with for the problem.
I hope it's not true but sadly I think it might be
Still; at least it's an improvement
@WaveyChristmas
I hear ya.
Luckily, I'm from the UK. So if I ever do buy a New 3DS at least I have the choice of systems
I have no idea why anyone at Nintendo thinks it makes sense to skip the regular New 3DS in the Americas.
I also have no idea why anyone at Nintendo thought it made sense not to include the swappable face plates on the XL model.
Sometimes Nintendo just bugs me lol
@SwaveSays I still don't get why not more games have implemented this... well, sort of "triple analog" control scheme. It's sad RE Revelations ALMOST does it. But as soon as you aim your weapon, second analog aiming is REPLACED, not ENHANCED with gyro...
@Shambo Because everyone gets butthurt over motion controls. I have friends that refuse to try Wind Waker HD because it has "motion controls" even though I'd hardly even call it that.
@SwaveSays Indeed, probably... I still say that, when used correctly at any level, they're a real enhancement to gameplay. Take Skyward Sword/Red Steel 2 for example, or even multiplatform games like Blazing Angels and The Godfather, I loved those on Wii.
Ah well, to each his own, I guess can be applied here.
@Shambo I feel like full motion controls are different than gyroscopic enhancement. While I enjoyed Skyward Sword and Red Steel 2, I could fully understand not wanting to play those games and finding the full motion controls annoying and unnecessary. With WW HD, I don't get it at all. Aiming items was made so much easier without forcing me to be super accurate with aiming. How could anyone not enjoy that?
