Re: Ninterview: Retro Video Gaming's Heidi stopXwhispering On Building The Ultimate Game Room

StuOhQ

@stopXwhispering Thanks for answering. That is a massive collection, and it's really impressive that you've amassed such a library of classic titles as a passion project. I definitely want to build a game room to rival yours someday. With the rising prices of retro games, I'd better get building now. So many of my favorites were sold along the way to pay for newer systems, etc. You're an inspiration.

Re: Feature: The Twilight Princess HD Fan Project That's Taking On Nintendo At Its Own Game

StuOhQ

The bump mapping and specular lighting do look great on this fan remake. Perhaps Nintendo will note what is working here (and what's not), and implement some of it into the Tantalus port.

Honestly, though, I'm happier if Nintendo simply does an "HD-version" of the game, rather than a fully fledged "remake". I wouldn't want resources being diverted from new projects to overhaul old ones.

A spit shine is all I'm after (but I wouldn't mind a few new textures in place of upscaled ones in key places). I personally liked the "over-bloomed" look of Wind Waker HD, so a heavier hand with the lighting gimmicks could help TPHD look a little more like a remake - when it's obviously just a remaster.

Re: The Next Nintendo Direct is on 12th November

StuOhQ

After E3, I'm not getting hyped at all. Hoping for the best, though.

Worst case scenario: this Direct is focused on "Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash".

Best case scenario: New game announcement (Ninty says we have another unannounced game coming this year) and some details on next year's games. Maybe even a sneak peek at how "Star Fox Zero" is coming along.

Re: More North American Women Own A Games Console Than Men

StuOhQ

I hate to come at you all with anecdotal evidence, but my wife, sister, and mother all own game consoles, which they play. My wife's friends play video games, and most of my female friends play video games. Does this mean that ALL women play games, no?

To get more to the point: do more women play game consoles more than men? Probably not.

The results of this survey are likely skewed by the fact that most of those poled were older (my grandma plays Wii games, but don't even dare suggest it to my grandfather), and also by the fact that, often, women are the ones buying gifts for the children. That doesn't mean that the overall results of the survey aren't correct, though.

If you look at under-35 crowd, I would guess that the split is probably 60/40 in favor of men, but when you take into account the over-40 audience, I don't see it as an impossibility that (at this point in time) women really do game more than men.

The difference amongst younger audiences isn't what it once was, and older men have been slower to get on the bandwagon that grandmas and soccer moms.

Re: Speculation Grows That AMD Will Provide the Nintendo NX Processor

StuOhQ

@RedDevilAde Nintendo needs to sort out their NNID accounts before the NX comes out. I'm telling you right now, I'm not doing a "system transfer" from my Wii U to the NX. I want my Virtual Console titles to travel with me... every other manufacturer has figured it out, it's time for Nintendo to step into the present.

Re: Video: Capcom Shares Footage of Resident Evil 0 N64 Prototype

StuOhQ

Has anyone ever leaked this prototype's .rom file? I'd like to play it, even if it is fairly primitive, ala "Resident Evil" for the GB.

On a side note, the HD remaster doesn't look much different than it did on GCN - especially if you run it through component cables and use a good 1080p upscaler.

Re: Devil's Third Will Be Released In North America, Just Not By Nintendo

StuOhQ

Even if it is a "Devil's Turd", I'm excited to get my hands on something different for the Wii U. With it's backstory of development hell, the involvement of Nintendo, and the likelihood that it won't sell well, this game will be a collector's dream in a few years.

Better buy two - one to play and trade-in if it's garbage, and one to resell at a profit ten years from now. Even better if it ends up being a cult hit like W101.

Re: Analogue Nt Starts Shipping To Buyers, Pitched As "The Leica Of Home Consoles"

StuOhQ

If it were more moderately priced, this thing would be a Godsend - provided that it runs the carts straight-up, rather than just playing a .rom file when it recognizes a game (which is what the Retron 5 does).

For the $500 price point, one could buy an NES, mod it to output RGB, and then run it through the Framemeister for a Godly crisp image with pixels that will cut your face if you get to close to the screen.

Re: Video: Star Fox Zero - What We Know So Far

StuOhQ

@polarbear Me too. I've been voting for a short delay until Spring, even though I'll hate the wait. I really want this to be the best game that it can be as we never know when we'll get another "Star Fox".

Re: Editorial: Cheer Up, There Are Some Exciting Games on the Way

StuOhQ

@TheWPCTraveler Yeah, that was a total crock. Like the rest of their pre-E3 hype. They just needed to bring some noise with some 2016 games, and they failed miserably. We all knew "Star Fox" was behind schedule being rushed (that was confirmed), and we knew that "Xenoblade", "Yoshi" and "Mario Maker" were finished already and Nintendo was using them to pad the end of the year after pushing "Zelda" back.

Re: Nintendo Renews Eternal Darkness Trademark as Denis Dyack Re-Affirms Continuing Work on Shadow of the Eternals

StuOhQ

I've been teased WAY too many times. Dyack and Nintendo (Dyack and the Industry, really) had a blowout a few years ago, which resulted in Nintendo pulling the funding from an "Eternal Darkness" sequel. That caused Dyack to split off and try to get crowd funding for "Shadow of the Eternals", then a spiritual successor.

I'll wait until I get an official announcement from a large publisher before I get excited again. Even then, I'll retain my skepticism. Being burned will do that to you.

My love of "Eternal Darkness" runs deep. It was the second game that I purchased for the Gamecube, and one of the main reasons that I bought the system.

Re: Hardware Classics: Sega Dreamcast

StuOhQ

I still love my Dreamcast. Pick up a VGA connector for your HDTV and your old girl will amaze you. DC games look considerably better today than most of the PS2 collection (even running on component cables).

Re: Gallery: Wii U Owners React to Screenshot Removal on Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures Miiverse Community

StuOhQ

Parental controls on Miiverse need to happen. They need to happen on the DS as well - so that the adults of the world can send a message to our NINTENDO NETWORK friends without having to get on our Wii U's (for friends that have both) or Facebook for those that don't. God forbid, the friends who are acquaintances through NINTENDO GAMING, and aren't FB/Twitter friends.

A filter would fix this issue, and could easily be implemented to allow adults to chat with other adults in private (friends only) matches for MK, Smash, etc.

Family friendly is one thing: exclusionary towards adults (who, honestly, make up the majority of your fan base) is another entirely. Stop pretending we're all Japanese schoolchildren and let the over 18 crowd play our games with a little dignity (meaning allowed indignity, of course).

Re: Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U May Benefit From a Delay, But It Leaves a Blockbuster-Sized Gap

StuOhQ

The only games large enough to fill the void left by a Mario, Metroid, or Zelda title... is a Mario, Metroid, or Zelda title (I'm talking main franchise, here - Mario Maker doesn't cut the mustard).

Once my mind settled on the sad reality that I wouldn't be playing Zelda this holiday, the gravity of that thought settled onto Nintendo's already precarious sales situation with the Wii U.

Let's hope that "Fatal Frame" gets localized, and that both "Star Fox" and "Devil's Third" actually make it to retail this year.

Re: Life of Pixel Developer Highlights Sales Figures and Challenges, But Confirms Progress on Wii U Version

StuOhQ

I've read several articles praising the eShop for indies. We Nintendo fans are always hungry for new content (especially retro/nostalgia) between major Nintendo releases... There are lots of large gaps.

I'll definitely pick this up as soon as it becomes available on the Wii U.

hint: We also eat up console exclusives for whatever reason (fanboys/girls). Any indie title that releases exclusively or first for consoles on Wii U is going to get some added support.

Good luck guys! I really hope you see more success in the future. "Life of Pixel" looks great! Also, I have to agree with A01. I'll wager that you'll move more than 2,000 units on Wii U alone. In fact, you might do considerably better.

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in the November Nintendo Direct

StuOhQ

I want a release date for "Mario Kart 8" DLC (November 13th), "Fatal Frame" localization announcement for first-half 2015 to fill in one of the gaps in the - 4 games, six months - release schedule, and confirmation that Platinum Games will be the partner Nintendo has chosen to help them flesh out "Star Fox Wii U". A campaign trailer for Splatoon would be awesome as well. Thanks, Nintendo ;P
