Animal Crossing amiibo Festival.jpg

The latest Media Create Japanese chart results are in and bring a mix of good and bad news for Nintendo.

Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival has, unsurprisingly considering the trends elsewhere, struggled to achieve notable sales; the Wii U title shifted just 20,303 units in its first week, well down on the typically high sales enjoyed by the franchise. Elsewhere the rather cute Sumikko Gurashi Omise Hajimerun Desu is the best-selling new release on 3DS, while the retail version of the free-to-play download Pokémon Rumble World reached 10,120 sales; The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes has also snuck past 100,000 lifetime sales down in 20th place. The results are below with lifetime sales in brackets.

  1. [PS4] Star Wars Battlefront – 123,908 (New)

In terms of hardware the PS4 holds onto top spot, but increases in sales for the 3DS family - especially the New 3DS models - mean that the portable is the overall leader in Japan. Wii U sales have dipped but are still comfortably in five figures.

  1. PlayStation 4 – 29,052 (27,311)
  2. New 3DS LL – 28,257 (21,800)
  3. Wii U – 14,684 (17,921)
  4. PlayStation Vita – 12,258 (11,821)
  5. New 3DS – 5,859 (5,264)
  6. PlayStation 3 – 1,624 (1,751)
  7. 3DS – 1,012 (968)
  8. Xbox One – 889 (524)
  9. 3DS LL – 596 (561)
  10. PlayStation Vita TV – 583 (680)

That's it for this week, with positive news for the 3DS but more disappointment for amiibo Festival, which seems to be struggling to attract interest in stores in multiple countries.
