Re: PSA: Planning On Buying Monster Hunter Rise? Play The Demo First To Receive Free Extras

@Chowdaire Yes, well, I started out liking World, especially for the nice graphics and seemless areas, but after a while I realised I wasn't having fun and that it was actually boring, at least compared to 3U, 4U and GU. I understand they made the changes to attract a wider audience, and they obviously succeeded, but I really hope Rise will be good. Iceborne made several steps in the right direction, and Rise is probably primarily aimed at a Japanese audience, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

I have been in love with this series since Tri, and my feeling after playing the demo is they are continuing the trend from World, where they make the actual monster fighting more involved and complex, while simplifying other aspects that have always made this series unique, like capturing and actually finding the monsters. Not too keen on this development. My biggest complaint about World was the boring design of weapons and armour and they seem to have fixed that at least. Can't wait to sink hundreds of hours into this when it releases!

@TheFrenchiestFry If they start to charge a lower price for a specified time period, I'm for cloud gaming. As it is now, I pay full price for having the game for an unspecified time until they close down the servers. Give me a reasonable price per month for renting the game and I'm in.

Re: Feature: Best Wii U Games

@Sooezz Skyward sword was never on the Wii U. And it was a great game, apart from the hand holding and being told what to do and where to go all the time. It's like the opposite of BotW: Great story and the best dungeons of any Zelda game, but very little freedom to explore.

Re: Feature: Best Wii U Games

Strumpan

So many great games on the WiiU! Plus the controller had built-in headphone jack AND voice chat functionality. Xenoblade Chronicles X, Monster Hunter 3U, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, Donkey Kong Country TF... well, just look at that list.

Re: Capcom Wants To Know What You Thought About Its Monster Hunter Rise Digital Event

Strumpan

@Varkster I agree. Being far too conservative when it comes to Monster Hunter, I don't really like to know immediately where the monster is without actually tracking it down first. But it's a minor issue, and I understand I'm in a very small minority. I think so far, from what I've played, that's the only negative I have. Of course, I'm a little concerned about multiplayer monster scaling, the World system where the quests are almost easier to solo was terrible. My main issue with World was the overall boring tone of the game, where they toned down the goofiness and colorful armor and weapon designs, and they seem to have fixed that here. I'm conservative enough to prefer MHGU over World, so I have no doubt this will the best Monster Hunter game ever.

Re: Spelunky 1 And 2 Are Both Coming To Nintendo Switch

@Abeedo As often is the case with sequels of this type of games, some of the design choices in the sequel are a little difficult to understand if you haven't played the first game. But if you play the first game and then the sequel, you go "ah, that's a nice variation of the old mechanics". Playing the first game first makes the sequel better.

Re: DOOM Eternal Switch eShop File Size Revealed

Strumpan

@Dirty0814 My comment was just an answer to how investments work. There is a likelihood that the increased cost of a physical release is lower than the increased earnings by selling more games when it's released physically. If that likelihood is large enough, they will do it.

Re: DOOM Eternal Switch eShop File Size Revealed

Strumpan

@Chlocean That's not how investments work. If they shell out for the extra bones for a high capacity Switch card, it might mean that they sell more and make more extra bones than they had to shell out. The reason for not doing it would be that they think the probability of getting more money back is too low.

Re: "Free Melee" Becomes "Save Smash" Following Nintendo's Legal Action Against Competitive Smash Bros. Event

Strumpan

@Wexter Well, I think a game is different from a piece of art such as music, in the sense that the game is a tool to play, especially in the case of a tournament. I'm not saying games should not be considered art, but this is not a general statement about how all art should be treated legally. I also don't consider your opinion invalid, even though I disagree.

Re: "Free Melee" Becomes "Save Smash" Following Nintendo's Legal Action Against Competitive Smash Bros. Event

Strumpan

@Wexter How is that a wishy-washy stance? I mean, given that Nintendo are allowed to protect their IP in this way, they totally should. It would be stupid of them not to. At the same time, I think it would be better if they weren't allowed. You probably just misunderstood me, because you're clearly not stupid. And the hockey stick analogy was to clarify how I think the law is strange, not to clarify what the law is.

Re: "Free Melee" Becomes "Save Smash" Following Nintendo's Legal Action Against Competitive Smash Bros. Event

Strumpan

@Parmandur Yes, well, that is the law they are using, and it has been debated whether it should be applicable to video games or not. Currently in the US the court says yes. I am not saying they don't have legal rights, just that they shouldn't have. Nintendo have many times themselves said that their games are not to be considered art, but rather means of entertainment.
