Yeah, let's talk about the level design for these Lego games that they have been copy and pasting for years and years and make it sound like it's challenging coming up with all of these 'new' ideas.
Well that left a bad taste in my mouth. Despite being short, it was incredibly boring, and then it gives no specifics about how this innovative gameplay concept will work. And the graphics look awful. At least go for 16 bit quality, please.
@MadAdam81 I don't know about you, but when actually racing on the tracks I never notice the cool track design. I only notice the anti-grav aspect if I'm driving sideways on a wall. The tracks look cool when viewing them during an overview of the track, but when actually racing on them it just feels like a standard MK track.
I enjoy the game (aside from the neutered battle mode). I just have a hard time seeing anything innovative about it.
@Kage_88 You got me there. Bumping into other racers for a tiny boost is huge and makes the anti-grav portion totally worthwhile. Because there is no other way they could have implemented the boost feature.
@Simbabbad. I dunno, probably the first Super Mario Kart since it created a whole kart racing sub genre.
@MadAdam81 Whaaaaaat? What possible innovation are you talking about? The anti-grav feature that changes nothing about the way you race? Don't get me wrong as I enjoy the game, but lol inno-race-shun
People who are (or were) longtime Nintendo fans remember the days when they actually seemed to put effort into the business and cared about their customers. Or at least they appeared to care so people would buy their products. To see the meager amount of effort put forth by Nintendo these days is tragic
Yeah, after hearing about the glitches on the ios version and the general meh-ness of it all I'd caution anyone to wait for reviews and impressions before pouncing on this
I truly don't think the Wii U is powerful enough to do the whole "one player uses the gamepad and the second player uses the tv" trick. While keeping the game looking good, I mean. Perhaps Manfred can clarify. The Lego games do it, and Sonic Transformed did it, but they run like crap. Maybe 20 fps max.
This is absolutely pathetic. I feel like Nintendo should run a contest to have a random 30-year-old message board poster run the company. It literally could not get worse.
I really enjoyed this game back in the day and I liked the controls. That said, I wouldn't buy it on the Wii U as it would look like ass on the TV and play weirdly (more weirdly) on the pad.
@FLUX_CAPACITOR - I'd rather list off things that generally suck about Nintendo right now, like going mobile, Amiibo, no non-XL 3DS in NA, embracing DLC and micro-transactions, losing almost all major third party support, failing to make games for certain franchises that aren't deemed profitable enough, rehashing games ad nauseum, releasing an underpowered system with a gimmick that even they can't justify, etc. Ya know, BS that longtime Nintendo fans are fed up with.
I hate this game. I remember not liking it much as a kid, but I decided to give it another shot and I deeply regret it. The level design is the most awful, anti-fun garbage imaginable.
@Mommar Well, if this one runs better, doesn't constantly glitch and lock up, has better level design and puzzles, and basically doesn't suck then I'll take it over 'lots of characters who mostly play the same.'
I liked this one back in the day. It seems pretty mediocre these days (and it was pretty standard stuff back then too) but it holds up decently enough.
Meh. I got the first on ps mobile and was not impressed. They also made a Galaga-type game that was amusing for a few minutes. These are mobile-caliber games. $1 or $2

Re: Review: LEGO Marvel’s Avengers (Wii U)
@Salnax Because people keep buying them, and they keep using the same crappy engine.

Re: Review: FreezeME (Wii U eShop)
Fun game. Great level design and the imperfections somehow add to the charm. I really like this game
Re: 3DS to Continue as a 'Major Pillar' of Nintendo's Business
Yes, like when they said the Gamecube and Wii would continue getting support and they completely bailed out.
Re: Review: Super Mario 64 DS (Wii U eShop / DS)
Why is there no mention of the touch screen control option in this review? Back in the day I mastered that control method.
Re: Interview: Learning More About FreezeME, a Surprising 3D Platformer for Wii U
@godslayer1975 - Please, enlighten me about all the 3D platformers on other systems. I must be looking in the wrong places
Re: Interview: Learning More About FreezeME, a Surprising 3D Platformer for Wii U
Hopefully this guy makes some money. This is quite the endeavor for one dude. I'll be buying it day one.
Re: Gunscape, the Level Creator and Cross-Platform FPS, is Now Due on Wii U in Q2
Sounds like an amazing idea. Hopefully it's good
Re: Shutshimi Will Bring Shmup Mayhem to Wii U in North America on 4th February
I could get hooked on this.
Hopefully the graphics aren't scaled down.
This looks reely good.
Etc
Re: Review: Bigley's Revenge (Wii U eShop)
@spurgeonryan - Please enlighten me. Why are you spending 10 + hours on a crappy game? What is it "about?"

Re: Feature: Why We're Still Playing... Metroid Fusion
Love this game. I do wish it was a bit more non-linear but I also hate getting lost for hours on end so it's a tricky balance.

Re: Interview: Warren Spector on the State of Nintendo, His Future, and How Epic Mickey Annoyed Core Gamers
I want to know what Nintendo games he sees that are so innovative and different. Mario Kart 8? Mario Party 13? Zelda 18? Pokemon Violet?
Maybe he'd just seen Splatoon.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th December (North America)
Terrible and embarrassing. Anyone defending this crap after years of mistreatment must have Stockholm syndrome

Re: Review: Kirby: Power Paintbrush (Wii U eShop / DS)
This is still an 8, imo. I think it's better than Rainbow Curse with better power up use and more enjoyable level design.

Re: Review: Barbie and her Sisters Puppy Rescue (Wii U)
This is not the Barbie game that we need, but it is the Barbie game that we deserve

Re: Review: Gunslugs 2 (3DS eShop)
The game is fantastic fun, though. Highly recommended. Gavin Harrison is an effing genius.
Re: Review: Gunslugs 2 (3DS eShop)
@Undead_terror - I've run into a few instances of standing on invisible platforms.
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd October (North America)
Dat Gunslugs $3 tax :-/
I guess I'll get it for the 3D and physical controls but I'm not happy about it, no sir
Re: Interview: Engine Software and Orangepixel on Bringing Gunslugs 2's Chaos to 3DS
@EngineSoftware - In a perfect world I'd say $2 since that's the price on mobile. But I know the markets are different and Nintendo takes a chunk.
If you're adding 3D to the 3DS version go for $4 or $5. Same with Wii U. I'd love to see a combo pack with both 1 and 2 for $8
Re: Interview: Engine Software and Orangepixel on Bringing Gunslugs 2's Chaos to 3DS
Worth buying for the soundtrack alone!
Re: Review: 3D Gunstar Heroes (3DS eShop)
Woo hoo! Fantastic game
Re: Interview: Simogo and Dakko Dakko Explain Why Year Walk is "Coming Home" on Wii U
Simogo is great. Long live Simogo!
Re: Rayman’s Creator Is Designing One Of The 60 Levels In Super Mario Maker
Erm, I thought they originally said the game would ship with 100 pre-made levels 😕
Re: Gunslugs 2 is Bringing Some Pixel Shooting Mayhem to the 3DS eShop
Excellent. The first one was great and had one of the greatest chiptunes soundtracks ever
Re: Review: 3D Streets of Rage 2 (3DS eShop)
10/10, my favorite beat em up ever and this version is flawless.
Re: Anniversary: The Virtual Boy Is 20 Years Old Today
Why has Nintendo not remade Wario Land VB for the 3DS yet? Seems like a no-brainer
Re: Tengami Passes Nyamyam's Sales Targets on the Wii U eShop
I strongly dislike this game. A beautiful presentation hiding crap Resident Evil 1-style puzzle solving. Total snooze-fest, imo.
Re: 2D Action-RPG Dark Flame Has A Chance Of Coming To Wii U eShop If Nintendo Fans Show Interest
@GeminiSaint - Indeed.

Re: Review: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (Wii U eShop / N64)
I love the combining powers element of this game. Other than that it's meh. I wish every other Kirby game let you combine powers.
Re: Review: G.G Series THE HIDDEN NINJA KAGEMARU (DSiWare)
Damn, some of these look really fun.

Re: Devil's Third Will Be Released In North America, Just Not By Nintendo
@FLUX_CAPACITOR - or maybe Nintendo's BS is finally starting to annoy even their most hardcore fans?
Re: Devil's Third Will Be Released In North America, Just Not By Nintendo
Well, even if the game turns out to be decent it won't sell well. Nintendo is a business after all.
Regarding Yoshi's late release in NA, I guess they really want people to buy Splatoon to tide them over?

Re: Humble Nindie Bundle Adds Three New Games
Happy to get Sportsball. I was hoping for Shantae and Ultratron but maybe next time

Re: Next Level Games Employee Suggests He's Working on a Wii U Title, Then Stealth Edits the Post
Sounds more like it was edited because the comment could be seen as vaguely insulting to the Wii U
Re: Don't Seethe Too Much Over Xbox One Shovel Knight Getting Battletoads, We Might Get A Cool Crossover, Too
Duh, we need playable Captain Falcon and his falcon pawnch.
Or Tingle
Re: Intriguing Indie Developer Simogo Teases Wii U Projects
I loved their first two games but they have gone a bit abstract for me lately
