Re: Review: Lumines Remastered (Switch eShop)

Stargazer

Can you stop and save your progress in the middle of a Challenge mode session? My main issue with Lumines on the PSP and Vita was that your game would last for hours with no way to save. I don’t often feel like playing a puzzle game for 4 hours straight. And no, sleep mode doesn’t count.

@KIRO

It gets pretty hard. This gets frustrating due to the lack of save points. For example, in Castlevania: SotN you'd get a save point before a boss. In Hollow Knight, that save point before a tough boss may be several screens away.

Re: Talking Point: What Were The Biggest Highs And Lows From E3 2018?

Stargazer

Spending more than five minutes on Smash during the direct was a huge mistake. It started to feel like a parody video, with Olimar’s helmet cracking and Wii Fit Trainer’s face. If they had cut that down, and shown a couple new games instead, then my impression of E3 would be far different.

For me, there’s plenty of old stuff that I still need to buy, and plenty to look forward to, but that presentation was embarrassing and amateurish. They should know better by now.

Re: Review: Wizard Of Legend (Switch eShop)

Stargazer

I have now read 4 reviews of this game. All 4 of them barely give a whiff of a mention to graphics, sound, and how long it might take to beat the game (or if there’s a post game, or anything of that nature)

Re: Hardware Review: SwitchCharge Boosts Your Nintendo Switch Battery Life Fourfold

Stargazer

Is there a battery test somewhere in this article that I missed? Maybe someone could test it out and tell us how long it actually lasts playing Zelda BotW?

Also, longevity is an issue with nearly all third-party batteries that I’ve tried in the past. If this thing starts to fail after 3 months I wouldn’t be surprised, though for the price it seems like it should be high quality.

Re: Review: BAFL - Brakes Are For Losers (Switch eShop)

Stargazer

Meh. I think this is a 5, and only multiplayer at that. I’m already bored playing solo. Plus, there is a really annoying glitch where the game ‘skips’ pretty regularly, like a CD with a scratch. And no, it’s not an item or a track feature.

The racing itself just isn’t satisfying, or fun.

@SetupDisk

He's fun to play as, but seems to be weak against bosses (unless I just need more practice). I like the shovel guy best so far. I've also done play-throughs with ninja kid (he rocks) and the mech-girl (she can be fun, but also frustrating with delayed attacks that can get interrupted).

@chriscare

I think the soundtrack is better than the reviewer is giving it credit for. It is very much inspired by Streets of Rage.

I have a harder time getting over the lack of a jump button. The run button, plus the combo system, make jumping mostly unnecessary, but landing a good jump kick in beat em ups is a staple that's hard to leave out.

Still, it's a fun game. Well worth the $7, especially considering 6 characters, branching levels, and the sweet co-op. I'll easily get 10 - 15 hours out of this, probably more.

@shani

Based on the video I just watched of Island Wars, no, not even close. These guys were influenced by 80's games like Jet Strike and Sky Kid, from what I read in an interview with the devs. They seem like cool dudes

Re: Review: Tengai (Switch eShop)

Stargazer

I’d say Compile’s glory-day shmups (Space Megaforce, MUSHA, Blazing Lazers, Spriggan) are 10/10, and Lords / Gate of Thunder. I don’t think the genre has ever topped those.

Re: Review: Toki Tori (Switch eShop)

@wazlon

Overall I’d say the hardest levels of 2 are easier than the hardest levels of 1, but 2 has the added problem of getting you lost when trying to find the next level to play. I heard they alleviated this problem with updates (making navigation easier), but I used to get lost often enough that I gave up

Re: Review: Unepic (Switch eShop)

Stargazer

My problem (and maybe this is a me problem and not a game problem) is that I’d get horribly lost and have no idea where to go next. And then by the time I figured out where to go I’d move onto a different game. Then when I came back to Unepic, I’d again be horribly lost. Rinse, repeat, never beat it....decent game, though.
