Cool, can we all move on then? Stop trying to make us care about a thing no one cares about.

There is something about Rise where I actually get a kick out of losing a big battle. The game has a perfect balance of intensity while never feeling impossible. Maybe I need just one up in gear. Or this new Japanese master of the Bow on my team suddenly is going to carry my dumbness...eventually the big baddie falls.

Compare that with new raids on something like World of Warcraft. One dude out of 64 dudes missing a spell and the entire team falls into oblivion - wasting countless hours of people trying to get this one little doo-dad for the people who have been playing for 10 years while you wait in line for the next 6 months for your chance. WoW is but one example.

One is casual and super fun - like I want my actual life to operate. The other is stressful like a job. A job where my boss screams in my face while my co-workers talk crap about me behind my back and I might get a watch after 25 years of service if I'm lucky.

This latest Monster Hunter Rise resonated with me for most of the reasons it did Thomas. I'm am in search of that fun feeling again and it's why I'm into Tendy more than any other platform right now. I hope Splatoon 3 has this feeling as well it will be my first foray into the series.

I hope this game fails, I hope Level-5 goes bankrupt and I hope everyone involved in this game's development is left penniless and hungry and their kids are thrown out of their private schools into the street where they are ravaged upon by wild dogs.

It must cost more than I think - because it most assuredly looks cheap.

Reviews on 30 year old established games really don't make any sense. Especially when you aren't buying the game outright. Especially when the basis for the review is comparing it to another 30 year old game.

@Bunkerneath right before I read this post I refreshed my now permanent N64 controller tab. It is my number 1 want for the switch.

I'm honestly surprised this week has such a lull. You'd think someone would take the opportunity to capture the kid's getting out of school here and abroad.

@LittleGhost I personally never thought of that as cyberpunk. I associate the genre with grittier characterizations - not just a dystopian, dark future. But I also never saw FF7 as particularly anime either. Maybe Cait Sith.

I can't associate cyberpunk with an anime style. They just don't mesh with my definition of the genre.

That particular OS model might be able to make anything look good.

@Mando44646 No doubt Sony's shareholders, or consumers for that matter, will be super forgiving at their shortcomings.

My hope is the console manufacturer's stop the release day nonsense of creating demand through fake shortages - or they continue to pay the price in the future.

Edit - and even if I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Look at the PS 4. It may be on the road to selling 1/3 the number of units as the combined Switch OG and OLED. So that is two failures in a row in their home base. Sony has managed to decimate Japanese support in less than a decade. Failure by every metric. They are currently mis-managed.

@Mando44646 It is a failure on all levels. Do you know why Tesla has never suffered under the chip shortage? Because Tesla read the tea leaves, anticipated the shortage and stockpiled.

Sony created fake demand through shortage on release -just like they always do and when they decided to eke out real supply - there was none to be had.

It is 100% on them. No one else. They will lose huge marketshare on this huge folly. By the time they catch up supply Nintendo's newest will be rolling out or out for a year.

If Nintendo were smart they'd be looking to put the killstroke on Sony.

@Coalescence Nah - it is a new "limited" physical run company trying to get a foothold in the increasingly crowded "game is too trashy for a regular physical release so we are going to create fake demand for people with addictive personalities" market segment.

Strictly Limited Games. It is becoming humorous.

Multiple top level people at Sony should be fired for their handling of this gen. I cannot imagine the permanent market share they has lost so far. Certainly double digits.

@Sam_TSM It may not be free time. Some people can do this type of thing professionally. They have a tv show about just dominoes.

The card artwork alone if much stronger than most card game fare. Really top notch stuff. I consider most card art in video games poor at best. Pubescent Dungeons and Dragons doodles or I just got my first copy of 'How To Draw Anime' level talent.

This is not an example of that. Much better.

Collecting games and not playing them is something I've struggled with. It is counter-productive to a full life and a terrible waste of finite resources.

If everyone who does this should sincerely examine themselves - they'd discover it is done to fill a psychological need or hole.

@Sinton You can find links to dozens of Eastman turtles with elongated necks and scratched up, exaggerated shells. Just like this figure.

Also: Real turtles have long necks too.

The dumb letters with the bad typeface belts look terrible though.

@Arkay of course not. Nor heterosexual men. I used to get any off-center game I could get my hands on - when I was addicted to buying and collecting games more than playing them.

This wouldn't have been one though - it looks like a terrible video game devoid of entertainment.

69th Post. Perfect. I suggest leaving this thread alone now that it may remain ageless.

For me it would be SMB 2. When it came out I'd play it at my cousin's house. When I went home I'd think about it all nightand how I could play more - because it wasn't my game or my system to play it on. It was the perfect game.

Later it was Galaxy 1. It looked amazing and the gameplay was so out there at that time. It was so fun with the Wii controls.

That said - I don't think I've played a Mario anything I just straight up didn't like.

@nessisonett the Japanese Cho Aniki shumps were very gay. I remember them in the 90s. You never saw them really the magazines and early internet would use them to tee up homosexual jokes and get undersexed/repressed teenagers all riled up.

Pokemon constant release schedule takes up enough of my time as is. I don't want to play anything that promotes itself as a clone of something better.

'Pac Man Fever' is the literal greatest video game song ever recorded. There is no reason to toy with absolute perfection.

People saying the turtles look bad - they are more in the style of the Kevin Eastman original comic run imo.

@Franklin I didn't say it would sell more than Splatoon 2 - I have never looked up their sales on the title. I think it has the opportunity to be a big summer hit for the Switch. There isn't a whole lot coming out imo.

So far, 2022 is shaping up to be a great year for catching up on old games.

@ModdedInkling In my experience with my personal $2,000 Sony television - I'd take a non-smart tv over it 100 out of 100 times. They are the worst and in no way benefit me - and benefits Sony/Google greatly with them tracking my habits.

I'm in the middle of a move now I won't be making the same mistake again. Besides headphones, Sony has become such a crummy company.

@OFFICIALMichi I had to get a roku because my sony tv doesn't play nice with other apps because Google and ATT are enemies I guess.

smart tvs are the worst thing to ever happen to tvs. I hate them passionately.

Not so bold prediction: Switch sleeper hit of the summer.

People seem so eager to hate on this release - it is bound to surprise people and succeed.

I've never played a Splatoon. This along with The MH Rise dlc are my two most anticipated. Games seem fun.

@SteamEngenius I went to an arcade/bowling alley recently and the newest light gun Jurassic Park is very tip top.

@Bydlak that was one of my top three arcade games. They had one in the grocery store we went to and I used to beg my mommie for a few quarters every visit. So annoying I know I was. That and Yi Air Kung Fu.

Arcade cabinets in grocery stores was fun.

@Wexter ypukindof make the point though - if all eshops are bad - then why do people insist that Nintendo's is somehow worse than the others?

@russell-marlow I don't think most people know what it is. And even fewer that played it.

When it was released it was absolutely trashed in the print mags. EGM used it as their monthly whipping-post review. They'd have their serious reviews - the ones they got advert dollars from the publishers for - they'd they'd get to tee off ONCE per month. I think Godhand got a 2 or maybe a 4 and the crappy writer got to try out his pisspoor stand-up routine that never quite panned out. It was only after a few years that writers pretended they liked it all along after the cool folks couldn't stop talking about it.

It was fun to watch them get silent about it. It doesn't happen any more because people give them instant negative feedback when they go sheep.

Such a cool game and the only PS2 game I owned that I still get sad about when I realize my copy is many years disappeared.

@AlanaHagues I'm playing Breath of Fire 1 , the first time I've ever played one in the series on NSO right now. I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. The game seemed so basic when I started it up but as I get further in I am discovering they were trying some really out there things for the time. Any time really. Switching the main character you play in the middle of the game without warning seems like a risky proposition - but man it works so well in practice.
