If you follow the Splatoon scene closely, you might already know how there have been ongoing requests for apartments to be added to the series.
In the trailers and footage of Splatoon 3 so far, players have spotted apartments in the new city 'Splatsville' - leading to theories the third entry may finally contain your own personal room with even more customisation options.
Now, in a new Squid Research Lab report (via Twitter), there's a reference to apartments, which has seemingly sent Inklings into a frenzy online:

As noted throughout the replies, the original Splatoon for Wii U contained a screen in it showing off an Inkling's room, which eventually led to requests for apartments.
Other fans responding to the same Nintendo tweet (above), have been quick to point out how the Japanese post for this latest lab report apparently makes no mention of the word apartments:
At the very least, this series of tweets from the Squid Research Lab shows off the fan favourite Splat Roller weapon:
Squid Research Lab here, rolling out a report on rollers! These versatile weapons can lay down a wide path of ink on the ground or fling it forward for a more traditional attack. Warning: do NOT paint your apartment with one. (A “friend” lost their security deposit that way.)
Let's take a look at the Splat Roller. This is an easy-handling roller that's a great introduction to the "rolling life." But make no mistake—it's plenty capable, especially if you can master both horizontal and vertical swings.
For the advanced user, behold the Dynamo Roller! This heavyweight weapon swings more slowly than other rollers but offers more inkpower. Horizontal and vertical swings practically blanket the area with ink, making it a truly formidable flinger! And roller. It's still a roller.
Would you like to see a new feature providing additional customisation features in Splatoon 3? Glad the Splat Roller is back? Leave your own thoughts down below.

Apartments would be so dope, but this isnt a guarantee or anything, so I wouldnt expect it
I can imagine it being a neat little feature you'd be able to share with your friends, collecting items from online and offline modes to put on display etc... but do I think it's likely? No, not really.
I didn't even notice the word apartment. I think it is pretty unlikely that there will be apartments. What would be the purpose? Maybe to display achivements or something. If they do introduce apartments that would be cool, but I am not expecting it.
Nice! Now I can not be able to afford a house in real life, AND Splatoon!
I have wanted an apartment in Splatoon for a looong time. I don't want to get my hopes up, though.
Not so bold prediction: Switch sleeper hit of the summer.
People seem so eager to hate on this release - it is bound to surprise people and succeed.
I've never played a Splatoon. This along with The MH Rise dlc are my two most anticipated. Games seem fun.
I didn’t realize this had high demand. It would be nice if they added little collectibles to display and stuff kinder like Pac-Man museum plus is doing. I would just like a way to play split screen with a friend.
That's a stretch
People just looking for a reason to be excited for this game lol
Inkopolis square is filled with people, storefronts, artwork, sunny skies, occasional plane flies by, or a train goes by, zapfish on the tower, food vendor. I don't see the game booting up to dump you in an enclosed apartment. It's too detached & isolated from inkopolis. If nintendo does the apartment thing, I trust them, though. I'm open to being wrong.
It's not like this is some crazy implausible feature to add, and it would definitely fit the Splatoon vibe to have a little location for you to chill and display your favorite clothes and weapons and listen to a tune or two.
I think there's one thing Nintendo needs to realize. With the creation of a brand new IP, especially one with the likes of Splatoon that take place in a society very similar to the world we live in today, there's a huge opportunity to expand beyond simply a shooter game.
Splatoon has the potential to forage into many different other genres, and I think the ones that are the most desired are simulation or role-play. I personally want to "live" in the world of Splatoon, not simply play a game that the universe is centralized in.
Seeing this? Yeah, I'm pretty much on the same boat as everyone else.
Customization this..customization that...only waste of time, but where is offline battle against BOTS? I buy a game to play forever...not to play sometimes online and after 5-6 years.....NO MORE SERVER and the game now is a pieace of garbage.
I thought it would be neat but kinda useless to have a lil customisable apartment room in the game, but man it'd be cool if they had an apartment block map where it links up all 8 player's kitted-out apartment rooms together and you do a turf war in there
This most likely doesn't mean anything, but I like to think that people going crazy about it like this is going to meme apartments into Splatoon 3.
It's how we got Banjo in Smash Bros after all. 😜
I want customizable apartments but I highly doubt they'll be in the game. Would love to be wrong though!
@ModdedInkling I think Splatoon will eventually branch out in the coming generations
Appartments would be dope. It would be cool if you got lots of furniture options like in Animal Crossing, and you can invite friends over. Like, say you make a party with your friends, instead of being in a boring lobby you can wait in your appartment while it finds a game for you to join.
Very rarely does a game do the whole 'decorate your own place' thing well enough for me to bother. I usually just dump stuff in a chest or corner and call it "my system" or plaster stuff all over just to use it. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me wasting time on that so maybe a handful of people will ever see it.
@ModdedInkling Your boat is in a whole different ocean than mine, and I'm sure a lot of peoples. But given your username, it's understandable.
@Sonos
What makes you think it will sell more than Splatoon 2?
People really love to set themselves up for disappointment, huh?
The "Squid Research Lab" is both the actual internal name of the team working on Splatoon and a persona for marketing. The group exist on earth, present day where they "study" the world of Splatoon.
They are not part of the Splatoon universe. Therefor, they can not be talking about a "friend" that exists in that universe. It's just a joke.
Nintendo sometimes makes posts FROM the Splatoon universe, but they are made by either the Shellendorf Institute (English) or the Devon Oceanographic Museum (JP). These are in game entities that, ironically, study the Squid Research Lab (and other aspects of the past).
It's a bit more complicated in Japan, where both The Squid Sisters and Off the Hook are like ... "real" idols, and have actual live concerts you can go to. The Squid Research Lab are also responsible for whatever allows them to exist in our timeline and are kinda their handlers. So even if the "friend" is one of the girls, they would be talking about their apartment in Tokyo, not one in the Splatoon universe.
@Franklin I didn't say it would sell more than Splatoon 2 - I have never looked up their sales on the title. I think it has the opportunity to be a big summer hit for the Switch. There isn't a whole lot coming out imo.
These people when Nintendo says there are no apartment:
What? This is outrageous. It's unfair!
No matter where your Splatoon speculation took you, we hope it was filled with sunshine!
apartments would be awesome. It would add a whole new level of awesomeness to the game
This isn’t animal crossing so leave it alone. I would rather have more actually game content like levels and more of a story mode etc than an apartment that literally has nothing to do with the game.
Sounds like the type of feature that other people get far more excited than me. I like fun gameplay and really despise in depth customization systems. If the customization system ties into gameplay somehow I will use it but only to get me by. I’d put a bed down and a radio maybe a plant and never touch it again. Not a fitting system for a shooter game.
