June is always a busy time of year in terms of video game announcements, and even without E3, it's expected to be a big one.
Sony, Xbox, and (probably) Nintendo will all be hosting something, and in addition to this is the Summer Game Fest - run by game journalist and presenter, Geoff Keighley.
Ahead of the "big live showcase event" taking place on 9th June, Geoff has shared a new video message - explaining how the event will share the "first details" about some of the partners and games in attendance.
It'll be "fully live" in a studio, and there'll be guests coming in. Geoff has also been working on his "hype trailer", which should be getting released soon.
Just last week, Geoff mentioned how Summer Game Fest would feature some "huge" new gaming announcements. He also apparently has a "pretty good sense of what's coming in the next month" and expects people to be "hyped about games in general" around this period.
Are you excited as Geoff is for Summer Game Fest? Any games you're hoping to see this year? Leave a comment below.

So it will be 3rd party games trailer by general ?
Excitement level is hovering between 0 and -.01%
I'll be hyped for a Nintendo Direct. Not some Hollywood schmooze fest from a guy who thinks he's more important to gaming than he is.
I feel like he says that every year
His definition of "huge new game announcements" are games that people will notice once and forget in a week. Sure, there have been a very few exceptions, but I doubt lightning will strike twice here.
But there is a very small part of me that would ABSOLUTELY love to be proven wrong, though.
Getting hyped… for ad revenue! Woop, the dream!
With this and the Sony show announced, surely Nintendo will announce their direct soon, right?
I don't care about Xbox at all as I sold my Series X and One X. PlayStation I have some interest in but not much tbh, I used to be very interested but not so much now as I find gaming on the Platform is just becoming too expensive for my liking,. To me Sony have become arrogant and let the success of the PlayStation go to their head and they've become too big for their boots in my opinion. Nintendo and PC are the only 2 Platforms I care about now.
@Dark-Luigi Took the words right out of my mouth.
All I'm hoping for is some multiplatform games, heck I don't plan on watching the fest live, probably the next day at 2x speed, skipping the stuff I don't care about.
I wouldn't be surprised if in the end just going to be mostly Microsoft (I can just smell the fps games' rot) and multiplatforms since Playstation is doing their own thing.
Nintendo better be hosting something! They have been very quiet since like February
Look out everyone! If Geoff Keighley is psyched, then well... the sky must also be blue and water is wet.
@Sonos Snooze fest...
@RubyCarbuncle Funny because I feel the exact same way about the arrogance thing from Nintendo. No company seems to try very hard when they're coasting off success it seems. Nintendo tried really hard after the WiiU didn't do nearly as well as they hoped but after enjoying the success that they have with the switch they seem to be resting on their laurels. Same for Sony coming off their incredibly successful PS4 era. The only ones that really seem to be trying is Microsoft after they never fully recovered after the launch of the XboxOne. Love em or hate em they're kinda killing it with Gamepass and their acquisitions (which are honestly ultimately unhealthy for the games industry).
Tldr I guess, Success breeds arrogance. Companies need to suffer failure to be kept humble.
Geoff knows what the people want. Celeb appearances and cinematic trailers with no gameplay!
No Nintendo. No care 😁
He's got one huge event every year in December, and got was the last game awards boring!!
Be ready for huge reveals!!!
Where?! Where were those amazing reveals! 😂🤔
I'll stick with the tried and true method of skipping any live events and watching trailers afterwards.
@Uska Microsoft is doing its own thing too on 12th so more likely to just be 3rd parties. Whatever it was you thought you could smell you might want to check the back of the fridge 😆
Literally expect nothing besides maybe Sonic Frontiers, that's always my best live event strat.
Lol the Dorito Pope can hype it up all he wants, I won't fall prey to his wily charms
@ATaco Maybe but if you feel this way about Nintendo then go over to Push Square or Pure Xbox then and stop coming here. Microsoft are killing it with Gamepass? HA!! good one you nearly had me there for a sec. Once exclusives start coming then we'll talk because as of now there are none and I'm talking about new games not the usual old ones. Nintendo may have their faults but at least it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg to game with them unlike the other two.
Maybe I should keep my mouth shut about these things from now on.
If Xbox really were "killing it" then I wouldn't have sold my systems in the first place and I know many people who have done the same. Then there's the DRM issues that happened only recently which brings me to the point of them lying to us and going back on the 180 they made in regards to making the Xbox an offline system. No Xbox Network Servers? no Single Player games for you. So many promises made by them none kept. I could go on with the issues I have with them. Once the exclusives start coming and the DRM problems are fixed then we'll talk otherwise no, nothing you say along with anybody else will change my mind.
Yikes it's a tough crowd here on Nintendolife! I personally have always enjoyed Geoff's shows throughout the years so I'm looking forward to it. He does usually at least have a few pretty big announcements at his shows and with how much less there are of 3rd party showcases this year I could definitely see there being some good stuff at his show.
Plus in the last few years the guy has gotten the reveal of the Xbox Series X console as well as the re-reveal of our lord and savior Elden Ring so he definitely has a solid track record of at least having something of major consequence at his shows.
The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest are usually just 3 hours of "cinematic" trailers with staged gameplay, or no gameplay at all and 90% is for Playstation and Xbox. If that isn't the case this year I'll be very surprised!
@Korgon
Glad someone else here is on board!
The last game awards felt more corporate than celebratory and definitely got the balance wrong.
Over the last 5 years or so I've always enjoyed these, particularly the orchestral performances.
Hopefully SGS will have a bit more clout now that E3 is absent this year 🤞
last time it was 3 hours of cinematics commercials and songs
I am not kidding, I honestly don’t know: What exactly is he doing? I mean, what’s his position / profession / job?
last year Summer Game Fest was a waste of time, full of generic games and bla bla bla, you don't fool me Geoff Keighly
@RubyCarbuncle Wasn't really trying to change your mind but alright, just saying that Nintendo has been pretty arrogant lately just like Sony. It happens when any big company starts raking in cash. Google, Twitch, Netflix...once the money starts flowing then customer service starts tanking. I'm not here trying to say any of them are worse than the other, just that once they're making tons of money customer satisfaction seems to become secondary until they piss off the fanbase enough that they're back to being "for the gamers."
@Korgon To be fair, how much of the stuff that gets announced at the show actually winds up on switch? This is why everyone waits for the directs, they know exactly what they're getting there.
@ATaco
That's a fair point but at the same time I don't think it's Geoff's fault. His shows aren't ment to cater to one publisher or another. I'm sure if Nintendo wished to debut something of substance at one of his shows he would gladly do so. If fact he has done so in the past with Bayonetta 3 and Joker coming to Smash for example.
It just seems like folks are a little hard on the guy for no real good reason but oh well.
@Korgon Given the only 1st party Nintendo reveal of note at Geoff Keighley's events after Game Awards 2018 was Sephiroth in Smash (the rest were Switch 3rd party exclusives and ads that showcase nothing new), I think it's safe to say Nintendo's involvement in Geoff Keighley events were largely connected to Reggie.
@ATaco Dude if that's true then you wouldn't have said anything to me at all. This is a Nintendo website I come here because I prefer them over the other two. I did used to be a regular user on both Push Square which I only stopped using recently for reasons I won't get into here and Pure Xbox on an old account I deleted again for reasons I won't disclose here but put it this way it had nothing to do with the Staff and the way things are run. I see no reason for your statement, I said what I did and it annoyed you and you felt the need to have a dig in your own way even though I did agree with you on the arrogance and success part but that's it. I'm glad you enjoy Xbox but I do not and I did not need to be told how you feel about it. There was a reason I didn't @ anyone here, reason being I'm making it clear these are my feelings and I'm not particularly interested in how anybody else feels about their particular Platform. Nintendo Life is my website of choice now for a reason and it's not for Playstation and Xbox which again brings me back to your reason for being here: if you're not satisfied with Nintendo then go to your website of choice because it obviously isn't this one.
I don't mean to come across as annoyed but I can't tell you the amount of times I say how I feel about something which I make very clear and people respond the way you just did, it drives me crazy.
What human in their right mind would actually want to watch these abysmal live game events? I forget they even exist. The game awards are somehow even worse than the Oscars, and those are absolute trash.
Maybe if viewership is low this year, they can have a "will smith slap" moment too.
