I see your Welsh and raise you Northern Irish, Ireland as a whole gets a lot of rep but NI rarely does. Liam Neeson has to put on an American accent, the DeLorean was built here but is associated with with BTTF more than anything else, the Titanic is associated more with DiCaprio (or these days the Titan submersible). Even other people from the UK ask if we use £ or € not to mention the mess of being forgotten during Brexit, only to cause further problems down the line.
There has been a few minor successes as far as gaming goes here such as the 2010 PC game Dogfighter as well as Hypixel Studios (later bought by Riot) which was spun off by some developers of the Hypixel Minecraft mod. Nothing Nintendo related as far as I can see though.
When I was a kid we had a Japanese language version of this game but was compatible with our (PAL) SNES via an adapter. We never knew the name of the game until much much later but spent a long time playing this u forgiving game barely getting past the first few stages.
Loads of nostalgia for the original game despite it handing our ass to us so many times. Definitely gonna get it for old times sake and might even get a limited edition copy.
I 100% Completed P5 on PS3, gonna buy Royal on PS4 and really wanna play this too to see if I want it but who am I kidding if it’s like Hyrule Warriors it’s gonna be another day one purchase.
The NA box art is just more iconic and I say this living in the U.K. This is definitely the style I think of for almost any Zelda game. I don’t like the box art to be too busy.
I’m struggling to remember even owning more than 5 SNES games and this was between 3 of us. More often than not we rented games growing up. We owned a lot more PlayStation games but that was between 4 of us at that point.
Despite growing up with Mario in the U.K. I’ve only seen the North American box art before. My first exposure to Mario was Super Mario Allstars which I believe used the American box art in the game select screen.
I got the game first time around for my sister and really enjoyed it myself. I never finished it and plan to buy it on Switch just because it’s handier. From my understanding the removed scene fits better thematically but isn’t essential. There was an arc about the main character overcoming confidence issues so she can wear a swimsuit for a photo op or something (as part of her job as an idol) and this was swapped out for a more generic confidence arc instead. I’m happy the rerelease exists and means that Nintendo didn’t give up on the game and will be nice if similar crossovers will happen in the future. Will tie me over till SMT 5 gets more news anyway.
It worries me when they try to drive down the cost of batteries because that can lead to cut corners and we know we’re that leads. Most infamously with the Note 7 but there have been other examples too.
Some of these I would have said differently in my childhood but where there is an official pronunciation I try to use that. Ryu from Street Fighter used to be Rye Yoo I say it more like Rio. I think my Yoshi switches based on occasion. I’ve always said SNES and NES like SNEZ and NEZ. Use Bros instead of the full Brothers unless I’m being super formal with it.
The last thing I weighed was my son when he was about 2 years old. If you have a Mii that’s under 4 it turns it into a baby on Wii Fit Plus and you can weigh them similar to the pets.
@Medic_alert I was given Nintendo vouchers for Christmas and I went and got Mario + Rabbids. I didn’t think it was my type of game but I was gladly proven wrong.
Thankfully I was lucky enough to encounter Tokyo Mirage Sessions but it wasn’t easy to track down with little to no marketing. Only found it because my sister is a big Fire Emblem and Persona fan and I got her it to surprise her last Christmas. I wish it was ported to Switch too so I could have a copy.
First of all, I remember you from ONM it was my Nintendo mag of choice after CUBE ended. Glad to see your work again. Secondly I too share a similar sentimentality for Nintendo and Christmas. Growing up slightly later we started with the SNES for my older bros bday and kept getting new games each Christmas but the biggest impact was Pokemon Blue for Christmas 99. I’ve been a obsessive pokenerd ever since. Though these days it’s a time for me to meet up with family and play Smash, Mario Kart and Mario Party and forget for a week that we are adults and revert back to simpler times before jobs and kids.
I still have my older brothers Man Utd GameBoy. It’s missing the front screen protector and back battery lid but I’ve since replaced those. Never seen it go for higher than £70 online though.
I’m not exactly a collector but I end up getting them as presents a lot. I will get some more like Pikachu but only for the Smash fighters I really enjoy. Currently have Luigi (SMB) Pixel Mario (Modern colours), Pixel Link, Wolf Link & Midna, Bowser (SMB) and Koopa Trooper.
@Hyrule I have since used it. You can have the same Pokeball Plus paired with with Let’s Go and Pokemon Go. As long as it isn’t actively being used with one of the games it can be simply connected with the other. Turning on the Switch will allow to connect with that. Opening Pokemon Go on smartphone there is a Pokeball you can click to make them search for each other. Any Pokemon stored in the ball earns extra exp while you play Go also.
@HerroThar I’m not too sure it says “as long as it’s connected” it will count steps. Im getting it anyway and if it doesn’t work I can just pair to my phone. Once tested I can report back
Does the Pokeball Plus track steps on its own? I’m planning on connecting it to my iPad so my kid can earn steps via this instead of logging into my phone. I know stops and Pokemon can’t be done as there would be no Internet.
I’m conflicted about this one. If a game is available to buy new legitimately I will do so, if I can get it reasonably priced preowned I will also buy them (though publishers see none of that) but there are still some classic SNES games that never made it to Europe that I’ve only experienced as a ROM that I have downloaded. If they were available in a VC or via SNES Mini (which I bought) I would have got them that way. Many licenced or obscure games would be lost forever if not for emulation and I would like to see these legitimately preserved in ROM form and given a pass of ownership has lapsed.
@Rayquaza2510 what was wrong with Crash? I played it and enjoyed it. If the issue was purely graphical it’s likely I missed it but I didn’t have issues with gameplay.
It seems to me that GF want more control over their marketing/PR content as opposed to everything being filtered through Nintendo. Also could be used to shine a light on non Pokemon titles I guess such as Tembo and any future ventures.
Haven’t stopped playing since launch. Didn’t spend and money in game for the last few months though. I’m able to get my 50 coins/day fairly regularly so no need for real world money.
@huyi not quite. There is plenty of parental fearmongering regarding Fortnite but the difference there is that’s their entire business model when Just Dance is a paid packaged “complete” product. DLC is supposed to be additional not integrated into the main game especially this close to launch.
Obviously an intentional and exploitative marketing tactic. There’s nothing quite like a child’s temper tantrum or constant begging to force a parent to part with cash. There should always be an option to hide paid DLC especially when dealing with kids games.
It is a bit awkward going out of my way to get them but at least this month I’m going to Game to pick up Lets Go Pikachu anyway. It’s not even that it’s far away from me it’s just working it around work and family schedule. Missed most of the events this year but made sure to get the new mythical.
I tried pre ordering the bundle but Game and Amazon both were having issues with me doing so. Preordered them both separately but on a shortlist for the bundle if it comes in store. Shall be my 4 year olds first console game and I will enjoy playing with him.
@TheDragonDAFan My first thought, Also Jirachi in Pokemon Channel. Not to mention game exclusive forms within the same Generation usually being for the “Third Version” games like Platinum or B2/W2. Meltan will likely be available for main series games in the 2019 release and could always be a Raid in Go down the line.
While I like the idea of the Tomorrow Corporation games on Switch it’s a hard sell when the games are significantly cheaper on iOS and Android when it is largely the same experience.
@Medic_alert I never had the NES, my first Zelda was Links Awakening. I only found this out for the GameCube port one of the magazines (Cube) had the code and the map in it.
@Moroboshi876 if you want a quick way to get to Second Quest all you have to do is name Link “Zelda” he will be holding the White Sword to prove it worked.
@thesilverbrick I only have 3 Amiibo, 30th Mario (modern), SMB Luigi and Wolf Link. thats why it bothered me that my only Link Amiibo isn't recognised as Link (despite being called Wolf link) but at least it has a unique function in at least 2 Zelda games that isnt unlocked in game.
@thesilverbrick I have the same issue where Wolf Link amiibo is not recognised as Link in any game. SSB and MK says not compatible, Hyrule Warriors sees it as Midna. I really need to get a 30th anniversary Link.

Re: Review: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX - Fun, But Only In Short Doses
My main takeaway from this was when I watched the video review and saw Chris wrote it I was brought back to the days of CUBE magazine and ONM.
I don’t have too much to say about Pokemon Mystery Dungeon just glad he’s still doing Nintendo reviews.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #5 - Super Mario Kart
While I am more used to the PAL box I don’t remember all that blue on the box. The US box art is much cleaner in that regard so gets the vote for me.
