@GC-161 mario has only sold 6 times as much as zelda bit that graphic would lead you to believe its more like 100 times more. Given the sheer number of more mario titles been developed in the same span of time than zelda and that mario is the lead software and Mickey Mouse of Nintendo, I would expect it to sell way more. Platformers are a way more accessible genre as well for a bigger demographic.
I think the poll is judging the two games in their technical merits and what they achieved relative to their respective franchise
@G-Boy mario was first to the market but made by the same person.
Mario was first to show off moving in a 3D world, zelda was hebfirst to show real control of your environment. Red Dead, GTA, Shenmue. All of these huge 3D environment games owe nearly everything to to what was achieved and laid out as the blueprint in Ocarina of Time.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE However it runs at 100% the same everywhere outside my house when undocked where as on PS4/XBOX I can enjoy Doom at roughly 0p at 0fps. the graphical dip is totally irrelevant as the game is accessible in so many other ways. I play this WAAAAAAY more than I play my PS4 version.
Switch is THE platform for multiplayer games, the faster developers realise that the better.
Mobile data tether and local WiFi where available means team deathmatch whenever I/friends fancy a game, not when we ALL happen to be in our respective houses in front of our TVs.
THAT is the future of gaming and completive gaming.
Game is amazing!!!!! except how do you report the dead spot to the centre of the analogue sticks?
The fine movement is none existent, you've relatively no fine movement or full speed swing. Similar to the Original virtual console release of F-Zero X before the update.
Absolutely AWESOME version of Doom and is by a clear mile TGE best version released.
Visuals and Sound are absolutely mind blowing in docked and undocked.
Some visuals are below the comparable PS4...... however!!
If you take the locations I have played Doom on Switch: Home, University and Work - get a great 600-720p version of a huge awesome game with full online multiplayer deathwatch where I am!! MORE multiplayer games need to be on switch!!!
Now if I was playing Doom on PS4 the average visuals would be around 333p. At home it looks great! As soon as I’m playing at uni and work I get a nice solid 0p and 0MBps connection for death match and I have to wait till I get home.
Switch is THE format for online gaming. PS4/XBOX: Team battle, raids, any team based online game; you have to coordinate with your Friends when you all need to be home and online. Switch: “hey dude, raid time on destiny? Team battle on Doom” “Sure, I’ll just take my switch out my bag and tether to my mobile for half hour on my break!” Job done!
Have Nintendo just covertly released the best product sales dynamic in console history as well as the best designed video games hardware?
Shortening a console lifespan is just stupid and transparent. It’s all about hardware manufacturers adopting the mobile phone dynamic and trying to maximise hardware sales by making you believe you NEED new hardware every 2-3 years.
The difference with phones and gaming are gaming is an art form and hardware only ever achieves success when the software delivers the art, Wii U failure is a good point in case.
If you shorten lifespan from 6-8 years to 4-5 years when games today take approx 2 years to develop a quality game. That doesn’t give developers much time to develop a game before they are then having to learn the next hardware.
This also alienates the consumer/gamer who has just shelled out £400 before having to do so again just as their favourite console has found its stride.
NOW!!!
What if the physical design of next gem doesn’t change? What if all your peripherals and leads and docks still work?
What if Switch 2 was released 2 years from now? What if new adopters could buy a full £380 starter pack? What if current Switch gamers could simply buy a Switch 2 Tablet to upgrade from switch 1 for £200? - Even trade in the switch 1 tablet against it? If the architecture stayed the same and Switch 2 was a like-for-like unit but with double the CPU, GPU and RAM.
What the Switch poses is a very cheap and simple way to let techy gamers stay ahead of the curve and a great price and not let all their early invest drop in value, also keeps their loyalty as hardware is showing investment in the loyalty of its user base whilst seeking to maximise sales in new users and retention of loyal users wanting to regularly upgrade.
PS5, PS6 .... wants £400 for full kit every 4-5 years for a static console. Switch could be offering you fully accessible home gaming that is fully mobile at half the price.
Don’t care, already bought a 128gb sad card for the switch as I’ll need it when the virtual console opens it’s doors. 24gb is fine for me and I wouldn’t care either way, this game looks decent and it’s ground breaking WWE has come BACK to Nintendo.
I’m in
I’d expect the retail price to be cheap, also let’s 2K test the waters for future development and investment into dearer cartridges later on
This doesn’t sound wireless. Plugging something into the USB does not sound like I can use wireless headphones.
Can I use my actually wireless Powerbeats or not???
@MoonKnight7 I’m all in for Doom and LA Noire next month. I’m endlessly impressed with Doom running on the Switch and can’t wait.
But it’s been out on everything else already!!! That was also the case when they ported the original to SNES and that was damn awesome to play as well.
Redux of existing games are lazy... ports of a game to a format that has been literally years since they last saw the light of day is actually a huge step. Especially in terms of games like Doom and anything from developers like Rockstar
I'm less concerned with the volume of content and more concerned with how much above the standard level of "crap" this will actually be that Sega seem to hit so consistently with their 3D attempts at Sonic
Current character designs = bin Sonic's "Attitood!" Persona = permanently bin, same with his goddamn neck-a-chief Knuckles "musclehead doofus" = bin Eggman = back to Robotnik for the love of god. The abundance of sub-mediocre characters = bin Music = re-work and re-establish the trademark music from Sonic the hedgehog games.
Make Sonic cool by performance, not by dire script writing. Level design should be fluid, with max speed achieved by the player being able to chain together tougher and tougher sequences and avoid speed traps. NO WANDERING AROUND IN HUB WORLDS WITH PUZZLE SOLVING!"
use only the base characters and re-establish a connection with the audience.
sonic = speed and combo based
tails = flight and technical based
knuckles = strength and climbing based
Villain = Robotnik and his variety of created monsters, akin to Doctor Wily and his bosses.
Think music levels from Rayman Legends, by speed based with technical and cinematic standard boss fights, the bosses in Sonic Dash on DS were actually pretty good.
Until Sonic re-grows at grass-roots level it will continue to churn out crap after crap after crap as Sonic Team have COMPLETELY lost their way with this IP and did so a long time ago.
Super Double Dragon Killer Instinct Super Bomberman Secret of Evermore Battletoads in Battlemaniacs Super Star Wars Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Turtles in Time Batman Returns Chronotrigger Demolition Man Super Smash TV Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse Donkey Kong Country 2 Donkey Kong Country 3 Stunt Race FX Super Aleste Zombies are my Neighbours
I got two. One for now and one for saving/collecting.
Totally missed out on the Nintendo website but very easily gotnone from Argos and one from game. These were miles easier to get hold of compared to the NES one.
@dystome the hardware can handle way beyond this. If you think an opening EA FIFA game is really pushing the hardware then you're sadly mistaken. Majority of the sheen, cut aways, lighting and animated menus are missing to over all file size down to get it on a cartridge. Also lowers the cost of the development to maximise profit should it not sell and EA pull out of Nintendo development very quickly again.
Switch could run the previous FrostByte Engine no problem. It could even run a bespoke versus of the new engine should EA sales on Switch warrant the development cost, but EA are playing it wisely and playing a profitable numbers game until sales prove they should invest more.
Character models and animation looks the same. The lighting engine was always gonna be different as is the lovely sheen of sweat all the PS4 players have.
Once the games running, it's identical. Plays the same, same mechanics, same physics, same playability, no difference at all.
Comes down to Sweat and Shadows Vs. 100% portability.
Whichever you prefer becomes your format of choice, although no matter which way you cut it.... it's still football and unbearably, mind-numbingly boring
@nhSnork Well that was an overly wordy waste of time and text with no substance whatsoever.
I never said they need to make me a nostalgia game. Sega and Sonic's reputation has lost pretty much all credibility in the eyes of the gaming community. Their best bet is to assess what has worked in the passed, what is working for similar franchises today and then assess how they can make Sonic fit into that.
They keep doing this and ultimately failing.... repeatedly, showing their lack of talent in the development of video games nowadays. Therefore they would be best assessing what has worked for Sonic in the past and build on that until they find a formula that works, find a rhythm and build on that.
Team based puzzle solving, wandering large hub worlds, clunky controls, random death drops are what Sonic has become known for. They need to find his groove back for him.
Yes another great Sega business decision, "don't want to give the fans what they want" are they aware that it's the fans that buy their so called games and by very definition that's how a business makes money????
Utter idiots. Sega have been this "good" for ages now. Ever since the director at Sega of America was proposed a Streets of Rage 4 for Dreamcast and his genuine response was ..... "what's streets of Rage?"
All fine by me and it looks amazing. I'm guessing it was THIS that lead to the stripped down FIFA, because this soils all over FIFA visually, but memory space is needed
Day one on Switch for me, increasednlrice or not. This game was ace on PS3 by I didn't break that far into it and was reconsidering starting it all over again. If I can do that on the greatest console ever made instead of the PS3, then being it on. Also amazing to welcome rockstar onto the Nintendo platform. (Neutered Manhunt 2 doesn't count)
@Gelantious seriously though? how big are your hands, or maybe you have early stages of arthritis? I'm a 6'1" 35 year old man and have no issue with them. The original xbox controller wasn't too big, it was just crap and badly shaped, more like holding a burger than a controller
Looks good enough to me for a low cost first entry. The in game doesn't look too far from the PS4 version. The close up cut scenes fall down massively but who cares
It does have great things over the PS4 online and Ultimate team mode accessible while on the go? expand/build your team, trade cards and get a few games in online while on your break or holiday or anywhere else away form home? Ultimate Team has never been so accessible when it finally arrives on Switch. It is an all time game changer
How it will look doesn't matter as ultimately it is a video game based on the world's slowest and most boring field sport. Notice how all the angles are close ups of fast moving feet? no actual shot of a game in play? why? cause football is dull.
Feel I will end up buying it anyway to show support for EA being back on Nintendo in the hope that NHL is then brought to Switch next year.
I can't believe how many stages there are. Only got to Press Garden with 2 chaos emeralds I n last 24 hours and it felt half way by normal sonic standards.
Another 9 worlds with 17 stages left to play in massively impressive and welcome

@ottospooky sunshine was one of he worst mario games. Loved it at the time but recollected finding it frustrating and never finishing it.
Revisiting it recently I found it was because the controls are camera positioning is probably the worst ever displayed in a Nintendo game.
