We've still got a long wait for No More Heroes III, as it's not coming to Switch until 2021, thankfully all is not lost if you are itching to play a bit of Travis Touchdown on Switch as the first two No More Heroes games, No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, which originally launched for the Wii console, have stealth dropped on to the Switch eShop. Engine Software was responsible for the ports.
What's more, we've discovered that both games are totally uncensored, unlike the original Wii versions released in Europe. Back in the day, the choice was made to release versions which cut back on the violence in Japan and Europe, while North American gamers got the gore-heavy version.
Do you have fond memories of these classic games brought to us by the enigmatic Suda 51? Let us know if you plan to pick up one or both of these today with a comment below.

Never played 2. Maybe this is a good time to get it.
HOLY CRAP. I knew they would release them but was not expecting it right now out of nowhere.
I own both games on Wii but never got around to playing the second so I was hoping they'd make their way over to Switch before NMH3 comes out so I can play it without digging up my Wii. I might end up buying the first one too even though I have no intention of playing it again just because having 2 and 3 on Switch but not 1 will probably trigger my OCD.
I can't believe this, I think I just got an anime-nosebleed. This one's for you, Travis!
"MOE!"
Buy these games if you have any interest in them.
absolute must plays if you havent done them already. everyone should own these 2 now that theyre off the wii
Hmm €20 each (not counting the 10% off) Seems fair for each but would have liked a bundle deal also.
By biggest worry is that is NMH 1 for EU the Censored version or will it be the uncensored version that was released in the US.
I am assuming NMH 2 is going too be uncensored since it was for the EU release.
Thanks! I immediately went and got both!
If you dug action games like Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta, these games are must buys. Seriously some of the best action games I've ever played, and Suda51's trademark humor never gets annoying.
That's MOE.
Btw I still have my shirt from when NMH2 preorders had it as a bonus for GAME stores in Australia.
Note that they are the HD versions of the game, and not just wii ports
I wonder if this release maintains the censorship in NMH2 where killed opponents turned to dust?
@Grauz Just a resolution boost or FPS too? Or general visuals as well?
Any idea if 1 is based on the ps3/360 improved port or na
@SilentHunter382 I don't know if it is the censored or uncensored version, although if you want, you can just get it on the NA eShop easily enough.
Would love a physical trilogy copy of these games but this will do! Ha. Loved the first two games on the Wii.
@Collette they are €20 each (€18 for the sale price).
Nice but still wishing for a physical release. If I had spare cash I may get it soon. Now if only Nintendo learn from this and just give us the Metroid Prime Trilogy while we wait for Metroid Prime 4 instead of saving it for an anniversary so they could purposely make it limited like their lazy emulated Mario 3D and Fire Emblem bs.
Definitely holding out for a physical version for now. Never did play 2 after it got stolen but the original was so good. Got plenty to play while I wait with my fingers crossed for a physical release.
HAH
I'm very happy this has happend...
Also waiting for a Physical announcement but I'm really tempted to get the digital now. Been wanting to play these games for years and never had the chance to try them out on the wii
Loved the first one, never got around to the second. So this is great news!
i hope they bring physical version of these games to the switch.
Oh I never played these! Very exciting!
And days like this is why I love Nintendo. Thank you. Nmh 1+2 will be purchased as soon as I get home.
@Kreko WE NEED PHYSICAL RELEASE!!!
Couldn't have better said.
That was a phenomenal trailer. Heard great things about these games so I might pick them up.
Never played these but I watched some footage of the Wii version of the first game and it looks amazing! Are they relatively easy? I'm kind of burned out on hard games after completing Mario Sunshine and those damn FLUDD-less levels.
as much as i wanna snag these right now i'mma wait for the hopeful physical release so i can have all 4 games physically, if travis strikes again got one, i don't see why these two can't, even if they're bundled together ala bayonetta 1+2
@Pally356 part 2 is fun, it is really streamlined. They removed the open world, instead you just choose on a map. Also if you are a suda51 fan it's worth noting suda only produced part 2 and left the directing to his team. It still feels like a suda game just a little more standard if that makes sense.
AWESOME! Can we get a physical release too?!
Never played 'em🤔
Will there be a physical edition?
I love the 2 games they’re of my top favorite games on the wii
Was hoping this was the reason for the PEGI 18 rating as soon as it came up. Was fairly meh on the presentation until the last ten minutes which was excellent.
Need a physical 2-pack. I would have expected one if not for the "available today" drop. Now I'm concerned if we'll get it...
Hoping for a physical release, this is awesome though
No physical release???
Haven’t played either. Is is ok to jump straight into NMH 2 and skip the first? (Read some reviews and seems 2 is a much better game overall )
I hope there are multiple control options. I'm not a fan of motion controls.
@Mchi5 I'd say it's ok to skip the first. The second game is a lot more fun and don't think you'll be missing much.
@SilentHunter382 Part 1 is uncut, it was the first thing I checked
@DrDaisy It's playable without motion
Love both of these games. Gonna pick them up (again).
@Clyde_Radcliffe I remember the second No More Heroes having difficulty options. The "sweet" difficulty is too easy but I think there's mild and hard modes too. Think I played mild mode and that was just about right, don't ever remember getting frustrated with it.
Can't remember much about the first game though except the bosses were difficult.
@Melistrius Thanks for letting me know. That helps me knowing I can buying it on my main account without having too set up a US account.
Some great news, will pick both of these up later.
Hopefully we get more suda51 ports dropping on switch, would love to play Killer 7 and Lollipop Chainsaw again.
I have to believe Marvelous / XSEED is going to release a double pack physically. Right?
@wazlon Thanks, I think I’ll go straight to #2.
Im gonna wait for three
Totally downloading these bad boys!!
I'll get 2, the Best game of the series so far. The job system is the best in any video game.
Two masterpieces for $20 each, running smoothly in HD, and also a 10% discount if you purchase right now. Am I supposed to decline?
I want to get them now, but I want physical editions as well
Strawberry on the shortcake!
Geezi go to work and Nintendo drops a direct out if no where with a great shadow drop. Nice
I knew they would do this but didn’t expect a shadow drop! Will get sometime next month (I own the originals).
Soo, if some early gamelay footage uploads aren't BS, it's running at 60FPS and is based on the US Wii version, a.e. Blood, decaps, missing limbs etc. and also not the slightly more buggy PS3 port.
Also, it supports both motion control and standard control schemes.
@SwitchForce Actually, it could have been said better:
"We need a physical release. Well, we'd like a physical release. We don't really /need/ one. In fact, the whole debate of physical vs. digital is an absurd, inherently first world problem that quite frankly is disregarded by anybody acting remotely rationally."
That's better.
I CANNOT STOP CHARGING MY BEAM KATANA
No more heroes is one of my favourite games ever. NMH2 is very uneven, but parts of it are really good.
These did not age well. It doesn't help that Santa destroy was purposefully boring as a kinda meta commentary thing because suda51
@ChaosBadger777 God killer 7 is such a good game on paper. Which is probably the same that can be said of all of suda51s games.
Physical double pack. Gimme, gimme.
@RupeeClock That was only in the Japanese version. NMH1 was also censored in Europe for Wii but isn’t censored on Switch.
@Maximums4083 I think i will check it out. The original game, while not perfect, really had a great style and was fun. From what I've seen the second is even better.
@tobsesta99 thank u ^^
Best gaming news of the year for me🙌
I would play them but They are M rated and I'm not 18 yet, def will play later in my life.
@Slowdive wow 60fps. I've never heard of these games before, but someone said they play similar to dmc and Bayonetta. So my curiosity has peaked! And uncensored? You mean I get to see teddies?
What a lovely day!
What a lovely, lovely day!
That is perfect, i have no idea what those games are about but i usually like sudas games. So i can try them before deciding if i want no more heroes 3.
@Clyde_Radcliffe You can set your own difficulty level in 2. Not sure about 1.
I love how long time fans suprise these ports of No More Heroes 1 and 2 while giving to the upcoming sequel. I hope they release a physical version soon.
@Melistrius Its good to know about not needing motion controls.
@wazlon Jasper Batt Junior. 😰
No More Heroes 1 is based on the Wii version instead of the Heroes' Paradise HD port-remaster (wonder why). But on the higher side, it's finally 60fps
@Collette
$17.99 per title. When they go off sale they will be 19.99 each.
(US eShop)
Holding out for a physical release and I mean one that’s on a cart not just a box with a slip of paper.
@Enigk same here 🙏
Bought and bought! Two of my favorite original Wii games and two of my favorite character action games of all-time in general.
@BenAV Literally the same story of my life with this game.. played n beat part 1, probably turned on part 2 at most... will def play part 2 on the Switch and get part 3, but just HAVE to get part 1 because my OCD will most def kick in! 😅
Really cool move; never went back to the first game and have heard good things about 2 so looking forward to trying the HD versions of both. Do hope they release both as a physical cart though.
Digital-only I assume?
@RodSD64
Seems that way for now. The file sizes aren't too terrible if that makes a difference to you. The first is 2.1 GB and the second is 3.4 gigs.
@Mchi5 I’ve never played the second, but if it’s better than the first you’re in for a treat as it was great
Could never quite choose between No More Heroes 1&2 and Killer 7 as my all-time Suda51 favourites. Considering the fact I've done both games to death on Wii seems a little crazy that here I am, flooded in projects and new games, yet... I'm spending all my time petting Jeane again.
PS: Both games incredible soundtrack is often forgotten when people talk about them.
I actually preferred the censored vers.........lol nah, just kidding- just that there always seems to be one here to say it on these sorts of stories & I just wanted to beat those pompous farts to the post! 😂😜
I wonder if the second game is using the US soundtrack or the JP/EU soundtrack? The US version of Philistine in particular is a little rough on the ears, they really cleaned it up for the later releases.
If you’re wondering about the GIF in the article, check out Tool Parabola. Amazing band! You’re welcome Internet.
I guess these will never have a retail release.
I have the Wii originals. Just downloaded them both. I'll buy them again if they get a physical release.
Do this versions have motion controls?
Zajebiście : D splendid ! Oh yes indeed ^^
@Snatcher Except that doesn’t matter? Just play them, dude.
@SilentHunter382 this article is about the EU version of NMH1 being uncensored on Switch.
Nice, this is the first time i get to play NMH1 uncensored.
Loved both games, but the first has more charm for me (outside of the 8-bit mini games from DESPERATE STRUGGLE... was this supposed to be on DS, lol). Loved having the phone calls come through the wiimote. I would hold it up to my ear everytime. Now, as I am playing in handheld on Switch I hold up the console's speaker to my ear like I have a giant 'phablet.' I needed this game right now.
@Shiryu
As I was playing NMH last night I was thinking the same thing. KILLER 7 is such an amazing experience. Still sits on my GCN shelf. I think it just edges out NMH1&2. Here's to hoping Capcom sees the light!
@Moonlessky
Yes, in docked or tabletop mode! I detached the joy-con and played just like I would have back in the Wii days; the face buttons even change from playing in handheld.
@JimmySpades the whole debate of physical vs. digital is an absurd
Then watch this video whom really owns whom to learn a little more on real life consequences. And read the last two words of the title itself...
Digital Distribution Vs Physical Media and "True Ownership"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdsWQGAlopk
Wasn't this on the playstation 3 at one point? Either way this will be a much needed pick up... though I wonder if there will be a physical version. Maybe bundled with part 3?
Ooh gosh, i so want this 2 games and just happened to ran out of memory on my 128gb sd card 😭
To be honest I like the pixels more than the gore, it fits the game's aesthetic better in my opinion.
A nice surprise to see these ports, and even nicer to see they're actually very well done. (Although, I suppose any port could be considered outstanding when compared to Nintendo's offerings.)
@WhiteTrashGuy Indeed, its like they don't want our money.
No More Heroes 2 was one of my favorite games from last gen. It has a crazy story but very high points in emotional story and fight sequences. One of the best in the action genre. Please enjoy these games just like I did.
@clvr I did too. It reminds me of one of the battles in the Scott Pilgrim movie. The only time it didn't look right was with the boss whose arms Travis cut off.
Still haven't beaten the last boss of number 2 all these years later. Do the games have the DLC from the PS3 remaster?
These games have the best OST of any game ever. I listen to them on a regular basis.
@kalosn Suda wasn't a fan of the remaster.
@Grauz These are the Wii versions ported in HD. It's not the PS3 version of 1 being ported and 2 never left the Wii until now
@Darlinfan I was not reading the comment literally, nor was I responding to it as though it were meant to be taken as such. If you believe that I had, you are mistaken, and if you understand that I did not and are arguing as you are anyway, then you are intentionally being sophistic, and your argument is best rejected.
Now, do you wish to respond to what I was actually saying, instead of attempting to deceive me via pragmatics, a subject I study for fun?
@Jack_Goetz
Interestingly, I suspected the same thing yesterday. Thanks for making me know about that :lol:
@Mchi5 the second one is really good, but the first is one of my all time favorite games. The story, characters, and fighting mechanics are much much better imo. Yeah the “jobs” you have to do are little dull but they don’t take up too much time. The 8 bit mini games in Desperate Struggle are very over hyped, they are super basic and not very fun
@TechaNinja Nope. Wii version in HD
Oh, boy, HD, uncensored... I guess they'll be some of those games I'll have to buy although I already have them on the original system still unplayed. That hurts.
What wouldn't hurt would be a retail version, I hope this is announced while I wait for a digital price drop anyway.
Great Games, but honestly both are heavily flawed, but fsr time is very kind to flawed games for some reason. First games flaws are technical mostly, really atrociously ugly free roam city with almost nothing to see or do. Second game thankfully does away with the free roam city. Both games have pacing problems. But don't get me wrong these are great games, both deserved a remake on wiiU or switch or even 3ds, I'll settle for port release to switch, at least they can reach new gen of players now
I had NMH for the Wii and got partway through, so I’m kinda interested in buying the two now. I do have a daft games backlog (don’t we all ...?) so that may temper my excitement ... but it is payday today hmmmmmm
This is such good news for myself that I told all my mates about it. Not one of them (alot of gamers amongst them) had heard of No more Heroes. So it is now my mission to educate them lmao.
@MrDannyB I'm going to be the one to actually say it. Still love both of the games, but kind of wish I had the option of the coins.
Geysers of coins spurting out from decapitated bodies is almost more fitting for a Suda51 game than actual geysers of blood.
I must have blacked out. Before I knew what happened both games were brought and downloaded from the eshop. Love these games!
Good. If I'm gonna be paying for rated r games, they had better be uncensored.
@E_maniac 😆
@Mchi5: This is no series like Final Fantasy or Zelda.
People should beat NMH1 before they move on to NMH2. Or they won't get any of the references, returning characters, or the continuation of the story. NMH2 is literally part 2, a direct sequel.
@Shiryu
Jean or Jeane or Jeanne? What was the correct name of the cat?
@RodSD64 Jeane.
Hell yeah!! I played both on a moded Wii so I could play the uncensored versions. I love both of them, althogh I remember 2 being bettet than one (basically because you don't loose time walking in Santa Destroy) so I just bought the second one for the Switch to get a bit ready for 3. However, after 30 minutes of playing it, I was amazed by how good it played, so I went back to the eshop and purchased the first one so I can relive both of them with this new quality.
These games are unique, and it's amazing that a game with the tone of No More Heroes is so tied to Nintendo. We gotta thank the wiimote and the joycon for that luxury. And sorry switch mini owners.... The game is playable in handheld, but it lacks the satisfaction of motion blows, which in my opinion is one of the mechanics that makes the gameplay of this game so addicting.
