Ubisoft's next big release Immortals Fenyx Rising may not even be available yet, but that hasn't stopped the third-party video game giant from revealing its post-launch DLC plans.
There'll be free in-game events, weekly dungeon challenges and daily quests. On top of this, there'll be a season pass - featuring new environments, heroes and "fresh" gameplay. Owners of the season pass will also receive the following bonus quest: When Roads Get Rocky.
Here's the full breakdown of the season pass, courtesy of the PR (along with a trailer above):
A New God – Fenyx will embark on a new adventure set in Olympos Palace, home of the gods. This journey will require Fenyx to overcome the Trial of the Olympians, immersing players in beautifully crafted and challenging vaults built by the gods, in order to join the Inner Circle of the Pantheon.
Myths of the Eastern Realm – Set in Chinese Mythology, the game’s second episode will introduce a new hero, Ku, who sets out on a journey to save mortals in a new mystical land at the frontier of the Sky and Earth. Players will need to master Ku’s unique fighting style and abilities, inspired by Chinese martial arts, to defeat new enemies and monsters from Chinese mythology.
The Lost Gods – The third and final episode will feature top-down gameplay, all-new brawler combat and a new hero, Ash, chosen by Fenyx to bring back the lost gods. The episode will take place on a new mysterious island where players will explore regions inspired by these lost gods, to restore balance on Earth.
The season pass is included with the Gold Edition or you can purchase it separately for $39.99. What do you think of this post-launch DLC? Leave a comment down below.

Sweet. Now gimme some Adventure Time crossover stuff!
I'm the type of person who usually plays a game through to completion in a couple of weeks then moves on and never returns so post-launch content rarely interests me. It also sounds quite pricey (almost as much as I'm paying for a physical copy of the main game) so I'm doubtful that I'd get value for money from it.
More pandering to the Chinese market, which no doubt influenced other aspects of development too, such as removing undead enemies or aspects of Greek culture like ancestor worship.
Looks really cool, I like that the season pass DLCs really change things up.
I'd still love to see a Kid Icarus crossover DLC like they did with Starlink/StarFox. The 4th-wall-breaking Greek Mythology setting makes it perfect for it. Just imagine a Switch exclusive chapter where you play as Pit with Palutena helping narrate.
I'm confused, is this common to announce dlc in this level of detail pre release? If they've planned this far out, what's the justification for not including it at launch? (Other than games-as-a-service make more money)
More like Immortals Price of Admission Rising!
40$ season passes and 70$ games 2021 looking to be the year of gaming. People are stuck home let's make a buck off them.
@shazbot : Apparently so. The practice is now so commonplace, and the "genius" customers so indifferent (if not enthusiastic) about such practices that it no longer raises eyebrows (it raises mine though).
Finished products?! That is sssooo passé!
This is fine, I’m in no rush so I’ll just wait for the inevitable “complete” release.
@shazbot It's a pretty common practice now. I suppose it makes sense from a business standpoint to try to sell it now while the excitement for the game is at its peak rather than waiting till most people have already moved on and are more likely to ignore it. I'm not keen on the practice in general but it depends how its handled. If the game feels like a finished product at launch and the DLC is genuine extra content that just adds to the experience then that's not so bad. If a game feels rushed with content left out just to be sold as DLC later on then that's far less acceptable.
You're really making this game look worse and worse, Ubisoft.
Ubisoft often charges $40 for a season pass. This one looks pretty exciting. 3 adventures for $14-ish each?
I think it should be made illegal to exclude work from a finished game just to make extra money off of it. So no more day one dlc, or dlc information before release.
@3RedTriangles what?
@HotGoomba___Rebrand they do this for all of their major titles. In a few years they will release a gold edition with everything included
I just really hate the new title of this game. I have to say.
I’m going to wait till after it’s released to see what people think. Other Ubisoft games are occupying my time and attention right now.
This was a day 1 purchase when I forst saw it but now I think i will wait till a complete version, Ubisoft is just money grabbing here which is a shame.
Is there a ladle?
A crossover with Pit (Kid icarus) would be amazing, please make it happen.
How about just concentrating on getting a good game out day one, rather than DLC that should be included in the main game or bought out months later. I actually think this will put some people off, knowing that the game they buy will be far from complete!
@quinnyboy58 Most of their fans don’t care. They’ve been doing it this way for a decade.
Why buy this when BOTW is so good.
I'm intrigued what the reviews say but the price is off putting.
Ubisoft, we take money from you for the ending of the game you bought from 2008.
But 60 euros for the basic version is still not enough.
Originally I planned to get this post-Christmas, as Ubisoft always put their games on sale fairly soon after launch.
Then I decided to get it launch day.
Now the DLC prospect has flipped me back to post-Christmas.
The Chinese mythology really interests me, but I would rather have a full game on this setting than a DLC chapter.
Anyway, this is a game that I'll read some reviews about to start considering its purchase, and wait for a sale.
@BenAV @quinnyboy58 @Silly_G
Yeah, I guess I'm just so used to switch getting ports so long afterwards they have to throw in the dlc to be interesting to people (one positive about day 2 ports).
It feels like they're chopping the legs out from under their own game. If they had said we'll support it with dlc, that's one thing, but they're clearly devoting time and resources to ongoing dlc development pre-launch. Does that mean it's fair for me to expect this game to launch completely bug free? Or might they have been better served on creating an excellent core experience, with ongoing support promised vaguely. TBD, but I'm disappointed.
I thought this game was based on Greek mythology, why randomly include a Chinese mythology pack? I mean they could make that into a different game, why mix two quite different stuffs? Or is this the start of a new genre - RTS-like multi-dynastic Action RPG? #confusing
@shazbot Just because they've got it planned out doesn't necessarily mean they're putting time into developing it yet. Even Nintendo has started sometimes taking the approach of announcing DLC pre-launch these days. I'd say it's probably one of the downsides of the ever evolving hardware that leads to ever increasing development costs. Developers need to look at other ways to increase how much they earn for each big title they release and paid DLC is one of the easiest ways to do that. At least we still have indie devs for high quality games at affordable prices.
@alecseus Same as Nintendo. Releasing a hardware that's at least a gen or 2 behind and still demand almost the same price as the xbox one or ps4 base (at least these 2 gives you at least 500gb and 3 to 4x stronger hardware) Nintendo and Ubi belongs together dear
I think a game of this scope & size should have that as a free update. This will hit bargain bins by May or June
@3RedTriangles You sound racially prejudiced making a bunch of assumptions. Instead of fighting a one man right wing culture war, maybe wait for the game to come out and read reviews so you don't need to create something the world doesn't need; Communist Illuminati Ubisoft Conspiracy Theory.
wait see how many bugs are in it and if switch port is okay first
I'm interested in this but it looks like a cartoon version of AC Odyssey with the stupid stamina system from BotW.
I'm currently playing Valhalla so can wait and pick it up in the inevitable sale after Christmas if it gets good reviews.
@Alucard83 Try playing your Playstation 4 without a TV.
Does anyone know if the Gold Edition will also be for the switch. I see it for all platforms except for Switch...
Maybe don't announce before launch that people aren't getting the whole game when they buy it.
@BooJoh Yeah a Kid Icarus crossover collaboration with Nintendo would be a perfect fit for this game. Even just a couple of DLC skins of Pit and Palutena would be great.
I'm not a fan of DLC. It's a way to increase the game price. Milk the gamer for all they are worth.
If I completed the game 100% and sill wanted more then maybe. But I won't pay upfront. And usually when I get to the end of a game, not always 100%ing it, I would rather move on to a new game than buy more if the same.
@shazbot
BOTW had the same DLC release pattern. DLC announced long before you could buy them and right before the main game shipped.
@3RedTriangles Given that ancestor worship is part of traditional Han culture in the history before the CCP, how is ancestral worship controversial to them now?
@ReikoMortis That's unfortunate considering a specific artistic/narrative direction for the base game. One of the reasons I don't like the Smash concept, as it does not have a consistent direction and seems like a mishmash of everything.
@Amrulez I thought they just announced there would be DLC, not the details of what it would contain? That I'm less concerned with because it means they're not taking (significant) development resources from launch, but am I misremembering? I thought we didn't know what was actually in BotW DLC until shortly before it came out? Just generics like 'more story'
I looked on budgetgaming.nl and from what I can tell there's no gold edition for the Switch version. There's only a gold version for PS4 and XboxOne. To make matters even more confusing those devices also have a shadowmaster edition. Hmm, I hope the base-game is fun enough (and that they don't butcher the Switch version). I ordered it a while ago and I will get some pre-order dlc. I can get the season-pass later if I think its worthy.

@Henmii @MPWolfie There is a physical Gold Edition, currently it's up for preorder on the Ubisoft Store (NA only atm I think.) I asked on the official forums and a Ubi rep said the Gold Edition will also be available digitally on the eShop but they can't confirm a date. Also the pre-order bonuses will be included with digital eShop pre-orders.
Not this again Ubi, try finishing and polishing your game first. Then try to introduce DLC later down the line. and none of this Warlords of New York baloney where you pay an extra £30 after just forking out £80 for the deluxe edition of a game that apparently contains the season pass. That act alone has made me boycot Ubi for the foreseeable future.
That second DLC pack sounds promising, imo.
I'm pretty disgusted with this. Weekly challenges, daily quests? That smells like microtransaction groundwork. Season passes are a bad practice as well, nobody should pay upfront for content that hasn't been reviewed yet.
100$ for the full game, I will definitely wait for a price drop, hope it tanks like Starlink. Ubisoft is getting worse and it's sad.
@3RedTriangles I'm confused. What does chinese people have against the undead in video games?
@Dethmunk I'm well aware of how GaaS works. Plenty of games choose their revenue models, you can achieve revenue by offering DLC or providing updates that enhance the overall package overtime. Look at: Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Splatoon, ARMS, Overcooked 2 (offers both), Master Chief Collection, Destiny 2, list goes on and on. So calm down. This isn't some big AAA franchise that has been established for years, it's a new IP and by staying consumer friendly in the beginning / through the customer journey, they can get more purchases over time. It's not "for free" when you pay in the beginning. Positive WOM can increase revenue and overall sales with or without paid DLC. Go take an anger management class and stop trolling people for their opinions on how DLC should be distributed 😂
@FargusPelagius this 🙌
@Dethmunk It's perfectly fine to have misgivings about business models, feeling differently than you do personally does not make people idiotic and mindless.
@Dethmunk second point to your assumption on "entitled greedy consumer" (not sure how attacking people looks on the Community Rules), I am playing through paid DLC RIGHT NOW 😂 I own lots of add-ons and DLCs for games, both paid and free. Considering how it's a hobby of mine, I spend a lot of money on gaming. So please, cool your assumptions before you make them. Get some coffee, go for a walk, pay for some DLC for am average game if it pleases you. Keep it friendly here!
Just played the demo on Stadia (got it for free recently). Pretty fun little demo too. Glad I have uplay+ cause paying full price for these games (base gave and season pass) nowadays pretty much pays for a year of uplay+.
Also the base game send to be pretty big and so does the dlc. I don't mind season pass stuff if the content is pretty good or big.
The key to DLC seems to be who's doing it. Nintendo has done this exact same thing and it seemed to be fine. Ubisoft does it and people lose their minds.
@Fazermint Well, Rayman Legends has weekly challenges too and that has no microtransactions, so it might be similar in this game. That said, although I like the look of this game there's no way I'm getting it at launch. It's a Ubisoft game so you'll probably be able to get the gold edition for £20 in a few months.
Can’t wait! Got the Gold Edition that comes bundled with the season pass. Just wish they had the same for the PS5
@strangerjmj @sanderev
To be fair. Two of these big DLC's are totally new settings with a new main character. They have nothing to do with the main game, and almost entirely small games on their own.
@GTHOLLAND
Have you tried the demo? It's available for free again on Stadia. You just need a Google / Gmail account :
https://stadia.google.com/game/immortals-fenyx-rising?hl=da
I really enjoyed the demo, and I am excited about a big AAA publisher is trying to make a typical Nintendo style game, instead yet another boring realistic looking game. I hope it's going to be great and sell well, so that we will see more titles like this from Ubisoft and other big publishers.
Immortals Fenyx Rising playes like a great mix of Zelda BOTW and AC Odyssey, taking the best parts of both.
It seems to be more focused and less open world than BOTW. Almost like a more classic Zelda game, witch isn't a bad thing in my opinion.
I love BOTW too, but I did already play it. I am also open for new exiting experiences, and this seems familiar but still great and something on it's own. Just try the demo. It runs great on Stadia.
@dres
It does look amazing, but with BOTW 2 coming out soon I cant really see myself buying a clone. Maybe if it's cheaper down the road I'll give it a shot
@GTHOLLAND
I do not think that Immortals Fenyx Rising is a straight clone of BOTW. It still plays differently enough, although it borrows a lot from BOTW.
The combat controls and feels just as in AC Odyssey, and not like BOTW.
And as a said, it also feels less open world and much more like a classic Zelda. So different enough.
If you love Zelda, then Immortals Fenyx Rising feels like the next best thing, but still amazing. And I would rather play this than anything else that is coming out right now, until BOTW 2 arrives.
@Amrulez
Fair enough, I was tuned out at the Switch's launch, so I did not see this.
After further reflection, and realizing how close this is to launch, I'm realizing the game is likely code complete and they're in testing. I retract my earlier criticism.
Not opposed to DLC, but as mentioned, it kinda makes me want to wait for a sale instead of a day one buy....
I’m excited about the content but this forced me to cancel my preorder. I will wait until the gold edition is on sale.
@dres Then they should release them as separate games. But not try to force a game into a "live service" if it absolutely doesn't need to be.
@shazbot
"they're clearly devoting time and resources to ongoing dlc development pre-launch."
Of course they do. The game has probably been feature complete for months. All they are doing right now on the main game is optimizing and fixing bugs. The artists, level designers etc. aren't really involved in this so they can already start working on the next thing. If they aren't working on DLC they are probably moving to entirely different games that are in development right now.
@BooJoh,
I guess the gold edition retail-version for Switch is a American thing (I am a European). Anyway, I already ordered the regular version.
@countzero Yeah, I realized that by comment 67. I guess in 2020 it's hard for me to compute the year is over. I keep thinking we're really far from December, why are they announcing dlc in this detail? ... And then we're 2 weeks from December
Imagine telling people that a game you're making that's out in a month won't be finished on release.
Also the way I see it, if you're making content for a game that won't be included when said game releases, the game is incomplete and that content should be free.
Paid DLC on a full price game is just not a thing that should have ever started happening
