@Arawn93 and yet the ps5 is now tracking ahead of the ps3/4 for the same time frame in Japan so can't be doing too bad. Plus since it's breaking records in North America and Europe which are now Sony's biggest markets I don't think they'll be too bothered. And we all know why Sony has continued to support the ps4 for so long. They couldn't make enough ps5's because of a global pandemic and tech wide semiconductor shortage. Without that happening they would have dropped the ps4 a lot earlier. But if you look at the amount of games Sony have released since the ps5 launched its a much stronger lineup than most consoles get.
@Cashews reeling from huge mistakes? They may not be selling massive numbers in Japan (though still trending ahead of the ps4/3 for the same time periods) but they are killing it in Europe and North America. Record sales and profits! And that's after a pandemic and huge semi conductor shortage.
@JohnnyMind Atelier sold 31k on nearly 29 million switchs. Sold 32k on on around 11-12 million ps4/5's. I'd say its sold pretty well on them as well if your impressed by switchs numbers.
@Arawn93 there are plenty of great games on the ps5, and any that are ps4 are greatly improved in many ways. Plus with psvr2, games like gt7 and resident evil village are transformed.
I'll grant you that this far into the ps5 Life cycle there should be more next gen only, but we've never had consoles launch during a global pandemic/ chip shortage before. Both PS and xbox have suffered. Finally this year the ps4/ xbox one will be fazed out.
I like how you use Japan sales for showing people are not upgrading when the rest of the world is quite different. UK for resident evil was ps5 73%! And that's against xbox too. Countless games are like that.
Elden Ring first week sales, 63% ps5, 17% ps4. GT7 76% ps5, 24% ps4.
And remember there are a lot more ps4's out in the wild. Most PS4 gamers are waiting to get their hands on ps5's.
And putting old games on pc is not effecting sales either, Sony stated that of the ps5's sold, 30% did not own a ps4 and are new customers! Maybe putting on pc works after all?
Sales figures for the other areas show how wrong you are.
NPD for February, Sony sold more ps5's than any other Sony console in its history for that month!
Europe,
Jan sales figures against 2022
PS5 up 202%
Switch down11%
Series x/s - down 32%
Feb sales figures,
PS5 up 337%
Series x/s up 13%
Switch down 28%
The switch's success is down to its hybrid nature, that you can play Nintendo games however you choose. It was a brilliant move and has worked great. It would have still sold amazing even if the games were ported to pc and still on the wii u.
Xbox have sold more Series consoles in their first 2 years than the xbox one, and you can play their games on pretty well anything!
@Arawn93 demand and sales numbers for ps5 around the world are huge, plenty of great games for it. Don't think a home console will ever sell in massive numbers in Japan again, the switch sale numbers show that. The hybrid nature was a genius move from Nintendo.
That the ps5 is now selling ahead of the ps3/ps4 in Japan in the same time frame, after a pandemic/chip shortage is a good achievement.
@Wexter average wage of a games developer in the US, $73k. Yes they deserve good working conditions, but I've always thought, if you don't like your job, change it. I did. And don't forget microsoft just fired over 10000 employees, many from their games studios. Ex developers at 343 have criticised the incompetent leadership up top, many left the perfect dark development causing a major set back. Other games seem to have gone awol for years. Their management of their studios has been bad for years now, 2022 was a joke as an xbox owner.
@Wexter its not fear mongering, its what Microsoft do! Again not xbox, Microsoft! And after the backlash the deal has had, No i don't think they can now easily aquire the other big boys. But they won't stop, they'll just have to be cleverer in how they go about it. GP was a last throw of the dice because of the failure of xbox one. And they could only do that because of their very very deep pockets. I subscribe to GP, have for the last 3 years because of the great value. But I'm also not naive enough to not realise its only going to be great value for so long, that the end result for the games industry is not going to be good for us, the gamers. I just hope you enjoy lots of throw away games, dlc, shiny cosmetics and lovely mircotransations.
@Wexter its funny that this generation Sony made the ps5 super easy to develop for and its the series consoles that developers have struggled with. Yes Sony have done anticonsumer things, nobody can deny that, but nothing compared to Microsoft who own xbox! Hate to break it to you but Microsoft don't care about console gamers, they care about profit. They have come out and said they want the mobile market, the pc market, they want everyone subscribed to GP. Gamepass on console has stagnated (their words), but grown huge on PC. They'll buy Activision, then they'll buy more (EA, Ubisoft) until they control the industry (like Microsoft have done before) and then you'll see their true end goal. Half finished games released day one in GP that's now £40a month (but less with adverts) many Dlc's that definitely aren't day one, ooh and littered with transactions! We're seeing that already.
@PKDuckman All the experts put xbox at 20 to 21 million, ps5 at 32 million. Europe is strong for xbox too. Also ps5 is outselling xbox in North America, was close last summer but since stock has improved the gap has grown month on month, with even Sony surprised by the latest gap. The elite 2 is a great controller, I have the Halo edition. But the dualsense brings much more immersion to a game. And i agree with your Jim Ryan comments, no fan in the slightest. But your being very naive of you think any game can compete with COD. The last made 1 billion in sales in 10 days(a lot of that on playstation), nothing will ever get close to that.
@PKDuckman I don't need to convince myself of anything, facts speak for themselves. They are that far ahead already and its growing. Sony shipped 7.1 million past 3rd quarter, the most ps4s they shipped 3rd quarter was 3.1m. They plan to ship 6m this quarter.
European January sales, ps5 up 202%, xbox down 32% year on year! That's xbox sales being down 2 years into a new console cycle, that's bad news. And they were nearly giving the series s away over Christmas.
And me personally, I don't think Sony have been resting on goodwill, I've played some amazing games on my ps5. The dualsense is the only true next gen controller, and the psvr2 is blowing VR experts/reviewers away.
Also i didn't pay £450 for my Series X to be an emulator! I bought it blow me away with next gen games, to show me what 12 tflops of power can do! Apart from some great 3rd party drops in gamepass its been a complete waste of money and I wish I'd have stuck with my one x.
And i really hope you are right with xbox bringing the heavy guns, Starfield has a lot riding on it(and i genuinely hope it's great).
@Wexter all massive corporations have done anti consumer practises, Nintendo among them. Sony are definitely guilty of it, but they are amateurs compared to what Microsoft have done over the years. This is all about consolidating the industry, MS have already said that after the Activision deal goes through they plan to aquire more. If that continues its going to be bad for us gamers in the long run.
@Selim Sony losing COD would hurt them but they'd survive. But at minimum they'll get the same deal as Nintendo just to get the deal through.
And it's interesting you saying Sony not doing well this gen when their console is already 11-12 million ahead of the xbox series consoles and the gap gets bigger every month.
@__jamiie your point about gamecube and the wii completely missed out something. Gamecube only sold 22 million units, so not really a big incentive to continue making games for it. Sony had a user base of 120 million ps4's, and a new console they couldn't make enough of so they did the smart thing. Cross gen until they could get enough of an install base. Now they plan to ship 31 million ps5 in the next financial year they can really push the generation. I'll bet you money when Nintendo release the switch 2 they continue to make some games cross gen for the first year or two. They are not going to forget 150 million plus switch owners.
@__jamiie Returnal was my favourite game of the year too, and was many others. Personally there have been some great ps5 only games, much more to the ps5 than load times. And now stock is no longer an issue, I think this year is really the start of this generation. Starting with the psvr2 and some of the amazing games coming this year.
Xbox have failed massively so far in the new console launch, which shows in gamepass being stagnant on console but growing loads on pc. Hopefully they can turn it around this year with Starfield and redfall.
@wanghosom GVIL in one of the financial quarters last year, 79% of Sony's software sales were digital. And by region, Japan were not far behind North America. Plus as others have said, you get ps plus extra, you get access to 400 ps4/5 games, so no need to go out and buy games straight off.
@WanzerAce that's weird, I'm sure I've played tons of brilliant games since I got my ps5? 700 plus hours on it last year. I'd argue it had a better 2 year launch window than the ps4. They are obviously not too your taste, but to say it has no games is laughable. My series x though, that's another story.
@Krull Don't think it's them chasing new AAA IP that's the problem, it's actually producing a great game rather than a very mediocre one. After playing the demo I could tell it had problems. Don't think comparing it to Octopath 2 is fair, massive difference in quality.
@gcunit you do realise that's every single ps5 for sale in Japan right? There were thousands queuing back in November just to enter a raffle to get a ps5 at a Japanese store. The switch is definitely king in Japan, think it always will be, but Sony is not dead there. Sony just prioritises stock to the regions it now sells best in. Just good business sense.
@Rainbowfire I think youve missed the point of what the steamdeck is. Its not ultra powerful to have amazing graphics, like you said, what's the point on a small screen? It's powerful so you can play the latest games in a portable form. You can play the same games your gaming PC can but on the go.
Games like elden ring, GOW, forza H5, Spiderman remastered, devil may cry 5, deathloop, resident evil 2 remake, resident evil village(60fps), HZD, Red Dead Redemption 2, cyberpunk 2077! And the list goes on. Basically nearly any new AAA game.
Yes the Switch is a powerhouse because of its incredible 1st party output, some of the best IP in gaming. But I'd argue the SD has had probably the best 1st year lineup of any gaming system ever.
@dew12333 why just shame on them? PC gaming has been digital only for years now. Some reports say xbox digital sales percentages are even higher than PS! And Nintendo are catching up, 2022 fiscal year showed 56% of sales were digital. Like it or not its going to be the future.
@dew12333 Why oh dear? It sold 5.1 million copies in 3 days so I don't think Sony will be to concerned. Plus 79% of their sales are now digital so physical charts means nothing. Give it a couple of weeks and MK8 will be out selling both pokemon, will you say the same thing then? MK8 is a beast, it's almost a guaranteed sale with a switch.
Really interesting to see his inspirations. Some obvious classics but what a game MT punchout was! Only 10 hours into GOW ragnarok but already my GOTY, story, setting, graphics and the combat is just brutal. Nintendo and Sony have spoiled us this year.
@EVIL-C same as the US and most other main gaming countries then. How dare people play and enjoy mainstream games solo and with their mates. And with the price of consoles and games these days, I don't think blind loyalty is that big of a thing. Maybe they just enjoy playing great games, never mind what box they are playing them on. I think what's really sad is favouring one billion dollar company over another, when all any of them really care about is their bottom line
@SwitchForce they didn't give up on anyone. They just realised where their core audience is, the west! Their consoles in Japan have sold less each generation from the ps2. Nintendo and handheld gaming are a match made in heaven, hence why nearly a quarter of all switchs sold are in one country.... Japan!
Sony can't compete with that so are doing the smart thing and focusing on where they make the most money. That's what smart corporations do!
@SwitchForce stadia is dead because of its pricing structure. The tech behind it was very very good. If they had used a cheap subscription model the results might have been quite different.
@SwitchForce Witcher 3 2015 No man's sky 2016 Skyrim 2011 All old games. Yes very impressive that they're running on the switch (though id argue No man's sky is a blurry pop in mess) but they are pushing the machine to its max. The graphics on this game are very very good on latest hardware, No chance in hell the switch could run it.
At the end of the day, as we go into 2023 and more games go current gen only, the only way they'll come to the switch is by the cloud. So as much as some hate cloud gaming, until we get a switch 2 it at least gives gamers who only have one console a chance to play these games. Nobody is forced to buy them, it just gives you the option. Surely an option is better than no option?
And i do find it strange why cloud gaming is so bad on the switch. I've tried X cloud and PS streaming and found them both to be a decent option in the right circumstances.
Amazing game, me and my son had a great time playing through this. Has some brilliant mechanics and gameplay and constantly changes things up. Be interesting to see how it looks and runs on the switch.
@XenoShaun that was last year, apparently production/ parts and transport costs have gone up a lot in the last 12 months so they are selling at a loss again. Even with the price increase. Still think it's great value, loving mine.
My eldest son is really looking forward to Friday and this arriving in the post. After putting hundreds of hours into the first two he can't wait to try out the single and multiplayer. He's just a bit disappointed there is no new game mode.
@gcunit wish that was true for me, got loads of games in trying to find the time to get through on my ps5. And that was before ps plus extra dropped and gave me tonnes more to play. I can wait for a deep sale before I buy it. My series x however, yeah that's gathering dust!
@KindofaBigDeal I'm not too sure it will be, as a massive fan of the game itself I don't plan on buying it again. And there seems to be a lot of PS fans not happy with the price so will be interesting to see the sales. Personally I hope it fails and shows Sony that these cash grabs are not a good thing.
@GrailUK apparently around half of ps5's sold in the UK are with game packed in, and the rest normal physical sales. But since nearly 80% of PS games are now sold digitally these charts don't really tell us much anymore.
@TheRedComet I think the whole credit progression has been massively over blown. I've put about 25 hours into gt7, have 40 to 50 cars, 2 million plus credits and no intention of ever buying the micro transactions. Nor have I felt the need to. Yes the game has problems(server down the other day was a bloody pain) but when your racing and the dynamic weather kicks in there's few racers like it. Especially with the dualsense. And I may be being naive, but I think they'll patch the single player needing to be always online at the end of the games life.
@ShadowofTwilight22 if you like the more hard-core racing games then I'd definitely recommend it. I'm about 20 hours in, and loving it so far. But the further you go in the campaign the more you need to learn about tuning and setup to do well in the races. Do you upgrade for max bhp, or make the car lighter and handle better. And with the dynamic weather, too much power is a nightmare in the rain. It's rewarding though with some great racing, and on ps5, the dualsense is brilliant.
@KoopaTheGamer did you try out the online sport mode? First for me, couldn't believe how rock solid and good it looked racing against 19 other people! Loving the campaign and café though, going to be a massive time sink.
@Cathousemaster was an article in the Japan Times this January, still impossible to find a ps5. To get one you either have to stand in line at a store, enter a lottery or try and get one online where they are gone in seconds. There are no weak and strong weeks, just what Sony decides to sell there! Software releases won't change that. Interesting though that the ps5 sold 1 million quicker in Japan than the ps4, 43 weeks to nearly a year for the ps4! It's just looks worse because the switch is such a power house and a constant massive seller in Japan.
@Cathousemaster easy to back up! Go on any Japanese online store and see if you can order a ps5! What comes in sells out immediately, they aren't sat on store shelves. Same in the rest of the world, the semiconductor shortage is affecting both Sony and MS massively. Same as a lot of other industries like car manufacturers. Chart won't be any different next week, GT7 will sell well but the hardware sales won't change. Personally think Sony know Japan is Nintendo/ handheld territory now so they ship the majority to Europe/UK/North America because home consoles are still very strong there.
@Cathousemaster that is every available ps5 for sale in Japan! You can't boost sales for something that doesn't exist to buy! Sony are prioritising the west and ship the majority there. Home consoles have been in decline in Japan ever since the ps2.
@IronMan30 amazon UK has (oled) for delivery tomorrow if you order in the next hour(prime). Game has them in stock, the game collection/ curry's. I personally can't justify one as my 2017 model still works fine.
@westman98 must be very different in the US to here in the UK. I've just checked 5 different online shops and they all had the oled, normal and lite in stock.
@mariopartyfan68 just because they don't impress you doesn't mean they aren't good. I really don't like jrpg's, but I can appreciate they are good games and people love them.
How has Sony started out badly? Switch sold 15 million in its first year! Ps5 was at 13.4 million at the end of September, 10 and a half months after release. So it will probably sell around the same as the switch in its first year! I see what your saying now, the switch must have started out badly too! Funny thing is the switch launched in normal times, the ps5 during a global pandemic and massive chip shortage! Just imagine how many ps5's they could have sold in normal times 20-25 million? 🤔
@mariopartyfan68 you should go on Sony's forums, the fans don't let them get away with anything. Constant moaning about some of the things they do. As it should be. I'm no fan of the company, just love their games and hardware. Same as I'm no fan of Nintendo, more so this last few years. They've become just another greedy company who takes their fans for granted. Charge full price for lazy ports and also has the audacity to charge for a god awful online experience(I'm not including the games here). An online experience that was better on the xbox 360 and had more features.
@mariopartyfan68 its hard to take anyone seriously when they say things like you do about Sony's games. I would put money on if they were Nintendo games you would be saying they are the bestest things EVER! Demon souls, a 92 on metacritic sucked? 🤣🤣🤣. R&C is a great fun game that looks and plays amazing. The switch would struggle to run a screen shot from it! Deathloop is a lot more than just OK. And well Returnal is my GOTY, just an amazing experience. And like I've said before, In 32 hours I've encountered 1 bug 🤔. I must be lucky eh! Oh and let's not forget Kena, sackboy(brilliant coop game), bugsnax, spiderman MM and all the great 3rd party games we've had this year. Strongest launch year of any console.

Re: This Latest Switch 'Rival' From Razer Launches At The End Of The Month
Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Hold Strong As FIFA 23 Reclaims Its Crown
@dew12333 why just shame on them? PC gaming has been digital only for years now. Some reports say xbox digital sales percentages are even higher than PS! And Nintendo are catching up, 2022 fiscal year showed 56% of sales were digital.
Like it or not its going to be the future.
Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Hold Strong As FIFA 23 Reclaims Its Crown
Re: Random: God Of War: Ragnarok Director Shares Five NES Games That Inspired Him
Really interesting to see his inspirations. Some obvious classics but what a game MT punchout was!
Only 10 hours into GOW ragnarok but already my GOTY, story, setting, graphics and the combat is just brutal. Nintendo and Sony have spoiled us this year.
Re: Switch Sales Have Only Now Surpassed The Xbox One In The UK
@EVIL-C same as the US and most other main gaming countries then. How dare people play and enjoy mainstream games solo and with their mates.
And with the price of consoles and games these days, I don't think blind loyalty is that big of a thing. Maybe they just enjoy playing great games, never mind what box they are playing them on. I think what's really sad is favouring one billion dollar company over another, when all any of them really care about is their bottom line
Re: Switch Sales Have Only Now Surpassed The Xbox One In The UK
@KryptoniteKrunch largest gaming market in Europe, 6th largest gaming market in the world. Not that small.
Re: Japanese Charts: Bayonetta 3 Debuts In Second As PlayStation 5 Outsells Switch
Re: Review: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version - Plagued By More Than The Typical Cloud Caveats
@SwitchForce stadia is dead because of its pricing structure. The tech behind it was very very good. If they had used a cheap subscription model the results might have been quite different.
Re: Review: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version - Plagued By More Than The Typical Cloud Caveats
@SwitchForce
Witcher 3 2015
No man's sky 2016
Skyrim 2011
All old games.
Re: Critically-Acclaimed Co-Op Game 'It Takes Two' Confirmed For Switch
Amazing game, me and my son had a great time playing through this. Has some brilliant mechanics and gameplay and constantly changes things up.
Be interesting to see how it looks and runs on the switch.
Re: Sifu Punches Its Way To Switch In November
Really great game, switch owners are in for a treat. Definitely looked a bit down graded but hopefully it will run well.
Re: Nintendo Switch Is No Longer The Best-Selling Console Of 2022 In The UK
@XenoShaun that was last year, apparently production/ parts and transport costs have gone up a lot in the last 12 months so they are selling at a loss again. Even with the price increase.
Still think it's great value, loving mine.
Re: Review: Splatoon 3 - The Pinnacle Of The Series And Switch's Slickest Shooter
My eldest son is really looking forward to Friday and this arriving in the post. After putting hundreds of hours into the first two he can't wait to try out the single and multiplayer.
He's just a bit disappointed there is no new game mode.
Re: UK Charts: TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection Cleans Up On Switch
@gcunit wish that was true for me, got loads of games in trying to find the time to get through on my ps5. And that was before ps plus extra dropped and gave me tonnes more to play. I can wait for a deep sale before I buy it.
My series x however, yeah that's gathering dust!
Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Switch Sports Continues To Sell Well As Saints Row Tops
@KindofaBigDeal I'm not too sure it will be, as a massive fan of the game itself I don't plan on buying it again. And there seems to be a lot of PS fans not happy with the price so will be interesting to see the sales.
Personally I hope it fails and shows Sony that these cash grabs are not a good thing.
Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Switch Sports Continues To Sell Well As Saints Row Tops
@GrailUK apparently around half of ps5's sold in the UK are with game packed in, and the rest normal physical sales. But since nearly 80% of PS games are now sold digitally these charts don't really tell us much anymore.
Re: UK Charts: Multiple Switch Games Surge Into The Top 10 Behind Gran Turismo
@TheRedComet I think the whole credit progression has been massively over blown. I've put about 25 hours into gt7, have 40 to 50 cars, 2 million plus credits and no intention of ever buying the micro transactions. Nor have I felt the need to.
Yes the game has problems(server down the other day was a bloody pain) but when your racing and the dynamic weather kicks in there's few racers like it. Especially with the dualsense.
And I may be being naive, but I think they'll patch the single player needing to be always online at the end of the games life.
Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Slips Further As Gran Turismo 7 Keeps Pole Position
Re: UK Charts: Gran Turismo 7 Keeps Elden Ring And Switch At Bay
@Would_you_kindly online sport mode racing against other players is what i asked him. I made no mention of anything being offline.
Re: UK Charts: Gran Turismo 7 Keeps Elden Ring And Switch At Bay
@Would_you_kindly I know, what's your point? My ps5 is always online so doesn't bother me.
Re: UK Charts: Gran Turismo 7 Keeps Elden Ring And Switch At Bay
@KoopaTheGamer did you try out the online sport mode? First for me, couldn't believe how rock solid and good it looked racing against 19 other people! Loving the campaign and café though, going to be a massive time sink.
Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Holds Strong In The Wake Of Elden Ring
Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Holds Strong In The Wake Of Elden Ring
Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Holds Strong In The Wake Of Elden Ring
@Cathousemaster that is every available ps5 for sale in Japan! You can't boost sales for something that doesn't exist to buy! Sony are prioritising the west and ship the majority there. Home consoles have been in decline in Japan ever since the ps2.
Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Was The US Number 1 In January
@IronMan30 amazon UK has (oled) for delivery tomorrow if you order in the next hour(prime). Game has them in stock, the game collection/ curry's. I personally can't justify one as my 2017 model still works fine.
Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Was The US Number 1 In January
@westman98 must be very different in the US to here in the UK. I've just checked 5 different online shops and they all had the oled, normal and lite in stock.
Re: Nintendo Switch Is The UK's Most Wanted Black Friday Tech Deal, Apparently

Re: Japanese Charts: Shin Megami Tensei V Goes Straight To Number One
@mariopartyfan68 I think you'll find the gaming media is heavily favoured towards MS these days.
Re: Japanese Charts: Shin Megami Tensei V Goes Straight To Number One
@mariopartyfan68 you should go on Sony's forums, the fans don't let them get away with anything. Constant moaning about some of the things they do. As it should be. I'm no fan of the company, just love their games and hardware.
Same as I'm no fan of Nintendo, more so this last few years. They've become just another greedy company who takes their fans for granted. Charge full price for lazy ports and also has the audacity to charge for a god awful online experience(I'm not including the games here). An online experience that was better on the xbox 360 and had more features.
Re: Japanese Charts: Shin Megami Tensei V Goes Straight To Number One
